I believe he is the most LOVE south south in North today because they appreciate his doggedness and perseverance when there was no hope of winning the presidential election. PDP just made Ameachi more popular. |

It’s that time of year again. The time when the world waits with bated breath to see who was voted as Earth’s greatest contributor to peace and receives what may be the highest honor a human can receive. I’m talking, of course, about the Confucius Peace Prize. The Confucius Peace Prize is an annual award given to those who work towards peace as seen “from an Eastern perspective”, with past laureates including Vladimir Putin and Fidel Castro. This year, the selection committee announced that the Confucius Peace Prize will go to none other than Zimbabwe President, Chairperson of the African Union. ■ The Confucius Peace Prize First, a little background on the award. The Confucius Peace Prize was abruptly established in 2010 right around the same time Liu Xiaobo was announced as winning the Nobel Peace Prize and was awarded the day before his. It was given to former Taiwanese Premier and Vice President Lien Chan for his efforts towards positive relations with mainland China. Lien was unable to accept the award in person, however, because no one told him about it. The intent of the Confucius Peace Prize was to provide another “Confucianism” viewpoint on contributions to world peace. For example, Putin was given the peace award the following year for his decision to go to war in Chechnya in 1999. “His iron hand and toughness revealed in this war impressed the Russians a lot, and he was regarded to be capable of bringing safety and stability to Russia.” [Qioa Damo, China International Peace Studies Center] Like Lien, Putin did not attend the awards ceremony, and a young student who was born in the former Soviet republic of Belarus inexplicably accepted the award instead. And thus a tradition of overseas recipients not attending the ceremony had begun. ■ Split vote On 9 October, it was announced that the 2015 Confucius Peace Prize would go to rebel fighter turned President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe. He was selected among a field of candidates which included Microsoft founder Bill Gates, South Korean President Park Geun-hye, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, as well as former Japanese Prime Ministers Tomiichi Murayama and Yasuo Fukuda. Actually the voting by the 76-person committee was diverse, with no clear majority chosen, so a jury decided to award both Mugabe and Murayama with the prize. Murayama was forced to bow out, however, as he couldn’t attend the ceremony due to health concerns. The 91-year-old former PM had this to say about the award. “My body is weak, so I said I could not go to China and refused the award. It would have been nice to receive an award from a famous person such as Confucius. I don’t really know if I deserve it though. I’m puzzled why I was chosen.” [Tomiichi Murayama] ■ Mr. Peace: Robert Mugabe Robert Mugabe was said to have been chosen for “serving as the Zimbabwe President from the 1980s. Overcoming a number of difficulties. Contributing to building the government, economy, and order in the country. While continuing to work at the age of 91 actively for African peace.” Indeed, Mugabe succeeded in engineering his virtual one-party government in part by establishing the Fifth Brigade: a unit of soldiers specially trained by North Korea with the sole purpose of dealing with domestic “enemies.” This military group is believed to have slaughtered anywhere from 10,000 to 30,000 Zimbabweans in the 80s. Mugabe’s handling of the Zimbabwean economy also gave economists of the world actual empirical evidence of what happens when a country completely runs its currency into the ground. Under Mugabe’s leadership the nation experienced hyperinflation up to 79.6 billion percent per month by the time the Zimbabwean dollar was discontinued. As for maintaining order, Mugabe has been hugely successful at keeping the deadly LGBT community at bay. In fact, he even saw his predecessor, former Zimbabwean President Canaan Banana, convicted on 11 counts of sodomy. It is uncertain whether Mugabe will accept the award which consists of a gold Confucius trophy and 100,000 yuan in prize money, which equates to US$16,000 or 42 trillion Zimbabwean dollars in 2008. Regardless, with such a track record I think we can all see why this man was chosen to receive the Confucius Peace Prize, right? ■ “Do they even know what peace is?” To be fair, despite the past atrocities and mismanagement of the Zimbabwean government in the past, the country has made a significant turn-around in recent years while still under the leadership of Mugabe. Their economy has stabilized somewhat and living conditions have been improving. This is largely thanks to substantial investments by China who are also cooperating with widespread infrastructure development around Zimbabwe. That has led some to suspect that the Confucius Peace Prize being given to Mugabe was actually China indirectly giving itself a pat on the back. And those were the relatively kind criticisms. Here’s what others had to say about the award both inside and outside of China. “Is this a joke news story?” “Do they even know what peace is?” “Seriously?! lol Maybe someone just renamed the Ig Nobel Prize.” “It sullies the name of Confucius.” “Farce.” “More like the ‘Confucius Disturbing the Peace Prize.'” It has got to be tough getting a major international award up and running, so a few snags along would be expected for the Confucius Peace Prize. If they keep plugging away at it, who knows? It might just get recognition some day. For now we’ll just have to stick with the Nobel Peace Prize: you know, the one that was given to Henry Kissinger who bombed a country he wasn’t at war with, Cordell Hull who helped send a boat full of Jewish refugees right back to Nazi Germany, and the guy who invented the prefrontal lobotomy. I don't know why people of Rivers, Niger Delta and Igbos inclusive are against the nomination of Rt Hon. Rotimi Ameachi. Where were they when he risked everything for Buhari, was it because he followed APC, I think so but if APC had lost the election he will have been mocked more than this. Do you know what it takes to do what he did, I called it RISK TAKING so they should let him be. |
A plea to revive Ajaokuta Steel Company Nigeria, a country blessed with so much in natural resources yet suffering from "resource curse" . Our economy has crumbled before our eyes and we have become largely dependent on importing products which ordinarily we should export and have abundant domestic supply to boost out local industries and in turn, our economic strength. Steel has proven to be an economic power to any country that has the industry developed. America has its steel industry as a dominant factor in its raise as a world power. In Russia today, its the strength of their steel industries that help the nation weather against the onslaught of Western sanctions. With the advent of a new government under President Muhammadu Buhari, we, the good citizens of Nigeria, tender our plea to the President and his wise team to kindly make, as part of the Federal Government's desire to diversify from an oil-dependent economy to mining amongst others, the revival of the Ajaokuta Steel Company a priority. On completion, it poses to be the largest integrated steel complex in the Sub-Saharan Africa and shall well usher Nigeria into vision 2020. Nigerians care because a functioning Ajaokuta Steel Company shall be the backbone for economic diversification and bedrock for industrialization. Its revival would stimulate several other industries for production of building and construction components, agricultural and industrial tools, domestic and industrial appliances, automobiles, weapons and so much for domestic use and export. This singular industry poses to provide employment for millions of Nigerians - local crafts men, professionals of all fields, genders, disabled, at home and diaspora... everyone!!! Please our dear President, make the revival of Ajaokuta Steel Company an utmost priority so that we all can collectively rebuild Nigeria for our children; regain its economic strength and become a world industrial giant. IMMEDIATE past member of the House of Representatives from Oke-Ogun, Honourable Kola Olabiyi, has chided the leadership of the state All Progressives Congress (APC) for their opposition to Mr Adebayo Shittu’s nomination and called on President Muhammadu Buhari to discountenance the objection. Honourable Olabiyi, in a telephone conversation with the Nigerian Tribune, said those who were complaining about Shittu’s nomination “want to continue to hold Oke-Ogun in servitude and as second-class citizen in the state. “Shittu’s nomination will bring development to the neglected Oke-Ogun zone, which is made up of 10 local government areas and the state in general. Do those who are complaining want Ibadan to produce the minister as it has done in the last 16 years? “Shittu, an erudite lawyer, is eminently qualified, to be minister and has been in Oyo State politics since the Second Republic. When we are talking about change and people who are not corrupt, Shittu is the right man for the job,” Olabiyi said. Also, a former Speaker in the state House of Assembly, Honourable Adeolu Adeleke, condemned the resentment of the APC leadership to Shittu’s nomination. Adeleke, in a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan, the state capital, on Monday, said the APC leadership goofed in its stance, because “every right-thinking person in Oyo State, irrespective of political leaning, sees the appointment as being well earned by hardworking Shittu.” The former speaker urged the leadership of the APC to see the appointment from the perspective of the majority of the people of the state. Meanwhile, the people of Saki town from across political parties, on Monday, took to the streets to celebrate the nomination of one of their sons, Mr Shittu, as a minister by President Muhammadu Buhari. Nigerian Tribune learnt that the rally was organised by leaders of Saki to discredit opposition and insinuations against Shittu, saying he was not popular, as well as attempts to label him an unpopular choice. Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune during the rally on telephone, a former chairman of Saki West Local Government Area, Alhaji Salami Nosiru, described Shittu’s traducers as enemies of the people of Oke-Ogun zone. “I am not a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), but Shittu preached Buhari to us and said he was the best candidate and we massively mobilised votes for him on the strength of Shittu’s testimony about him. “APC got the highest number of votes during the presidential election of March 28 from Saki West Local Govenrment Area, which is Shittu’s council. His unit also recorded the highest number of votes of the over 4,000 units in the state.” Also speaking, Deacon Olujimi Olusegun, said calculated attempts at giving Shittu a bad name, so as to hang him would not only fail, but also “bounce back on his enemies.” Meanwhile, the Saki Development Union (SDU) in a release signed by Mr Moshood Aromose and Elder Mathew Fehintola, president and secretary respectively, said Shittu’s appointment showed that President Muhammadu Buhari meant well for the country. According to the Union, “Mr Shittu is noted for his dogged commitment to truth, justice, fairness, honesty, openness and accountability. He is an incorruptible politician, who believes in Godliness and service to humanity. We have no doubt that the nominee will not betray the confidence repose in him by president buhari if given the opportunity to serve at the federal level.” Source: http://tribuneonlineng.com/ministerial-nomination-jubilation-saki-ex-lawmakers-slam-oyo-apc-over-shittu |
All the profession U can practice without studying them are 2,3,4,5 and probably 7, partially 1 because there is more to banking than you ever think of but for 6 I totally disagree with you because you cannot practice chemistry or industrial chemistry if you don't study it and Dangote was not the one doing the chemistry work. You think electrical engineering is the same as electrician and there are more to mechanical engineering than you also think by justifying your views with radio mechanic and the rest. What of Automobile, Foundry, Mechanics, Materials and Metallurgy, Heat and Mass Transfer to mention a few. You should have highlight your point as road side mechanic and electricians as that was why they are different and can not be refer to as an engineer. |
Barca my man, well am not surprised with this write up of yours and I expect more than this, if GEJ has been doing the same we will not be in this mess that we found ourselves today. However if you don't like what is going on in this present government please save your grammar for coming 2019 general election. God bless my country Nigeria. |
Gejpresident:Your name depict who you are. What is Allah and what is God. Oh Allah dash this guy a little sense am pleading for him. |
The headline does not depict what this man was saying, on the other side I support what Pat Utomi was saying and I hope he his included in the Ministerial list. |
DashMeYansh:Seriously at the end of Buhari's administration, I will feel sad if Jonathan did not got his comeuppance for the atrocities he and his members committed if found guilty. |
TonyeBarcanista:Sometimes I always want to agree with your opinion but you are too sentimental when it come to national issues. I think PDP promised you something during election which you think can only be achieve when they came back to power. Bro wake up election is over. |
If you want to eliminate a threat get someone to do it for you.
All want is justice to prevail, God Bless Nigeria. |
As far as I hate to use this word this man is just another WAILER. He his speaking with all his mouth, he was making sense a little but his last statement spoil the whole thing he has been saying. Though not all senator can spit sense they just buy their way into the red chamber. |
KwoiZabo:On reduction in price I disagree with you because that was how it suppose to be and when Jonathan increase it out of what he promised to use it for how many did he fulfilled or have u forgotten. On Lagos-Ibadan express way I agree with you and I believe he can't just leave the road and turn back his eye. Let's give this man time cos Jonathan got his own time too he just blew it. |
400billionman:Brother am not defending him at all, seriously are you criticizing a government of 12+ days old. If that is true the you are the one defending the past administration. Let me remind of this Jonathan started getting criticized at the twilight of his administration and at that time Nigeria started moving backward. |
Go and ask Baba Aminu in Sokoto or Mama Iyabo somewhere in Ogbomosho who WIKE is in Nigeria today
