How PDP'll floor opposition in Jigawa, by Lamido

By Tina Akannam

Dutse—Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido has said that the state Peoles Democratic Party, PDP, would use the same strategies which it adopted in 2007 and 2011 to defeat the opposition parties and sweep the forthcoming general elections in the state.

Lamido spoke weekend, while campaigning for the party’s candidates for the governorship, national and state assemblies at Garki Local Government Area of the state.

He stated politics was not madness, warning people against taking advantage of innocent electorates by making false promises to them. He also asked the people of the state to reciprocate the good performance of his administration across the state by voting for its candidates.

According to him, the APC is a small party and a creation of frustrated members of the PDP who had nothing to show on the ground, adding that APC was no match to his party in Jigawa State.

Lamido explained that Badaru , the APC governorship candidate and Farouk Adamu Aliyu whom happened to be his relation, had nothing to offer to the people of the state as they lacked focus and the capacity to win the election.

Housing is a very serious problem in Lagos State. He should first put laws that make the land acquisition in Lagos State a smooth thing, laws that will ensure that Estate agents and Landlords play the game of leasing/rentage according to the rules

However, the PDP flag bearer promised to reverse all illegally acquired properties in the state by some vested interests.

While describing vested interests as the bane behind the implementation of several policies of government in the state, he expressed his determination at ensuring that the political, social and economic life of the state does not growl any longer under the bondage of vested interests if elected as governor.

Tinubu is the numero uno when it comes to land grabbing.
Politics / Jimi Agbaje Promises To Deliver 150,000 Housing Units By 2018 by idumuose(m): 10:25am On Jan 20, 2015
BY STEVE AGBOTA

Lagos State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Jimi Agbaje, has promised to deliver about 150,000 housing units by 2018 through fostering partnerships with the private sector and promoting sustainable and effective building methods if elected.

Agbaje, who disclosed this at the weekend while addressing newsmen in Lagos, said his goal was to effectively deliver sustainable units to address the problem of inadequate and unaffordable housing by using it as a means of creating jobs for the people.

He regretted that out of 36 states of the federation, Lagos has remained the worst in terms of obtaining aprproval for construction permit to build houses, saying the current administration has neglected low cost housing in the state and failed to develop the slum areas in the state through provision of low income housing and housing for the poor.

He added: “We have more slums in Lagos because eight years ago, there was a budget of $200 million loan from the World Bank to revive specific slums like Badiya and others. If you go to those places, you can’t see any result. Don’t we have the formula right to reverse the slums even with the money that comes in? We are saying that we can have low cost housing by partnering  the  private sector.”

According to him, over N4 trillion received by the present Lagos government in the last 16 years was not commensurate with the achievements expected of a global megacity.

As part of his goals, Agbaje said he would develop fishing and fish processing hub in Epe and Ikorodu to jumpstart an ocean economy, adding that that would involve the development of Marina seafronts with supporting logistics and other infrastructure.

Agbaje said his administration would make provision for 5 per cent of the state procurement budget for young entrepreneurs and recent graduates of all educational levels if elected.

He added: “The replacement of Molue buses with BRT buses is a good initiative but the poor implementation is killing the project.  For example, BRT is gradually becoming another Molue bus. If you move round Lagos’ major roads, you are likely to notice broken-down BRT buses blocking the traffic flow to cause more congestion. A megacity cannot grow with poor transportation system. The light rail project would further assist the easy transportation of our people and our government shall complete the project.”

Said he: “In Lagos, you may find good programmes on paper but you will see that the implementation is being affected by vested interest. Anything that Lagos does has to be in the interest of what I call vested interest. So, if you look at the light rail, the BRT is not working again because there are vested interest factors involved.

“We have a vested interest that is affecting the social, economic and political life of our state. You cannot have any big project in Lagos unless you take into consideration vested interest that is affecting our state and we are saying that it is time to remove Lagos from this bondage,” he added.

he Babangida must have asked Buhari something in exchange for his endorsement knowing the acrimony that has existed between them since the coup of 1983.

Politics is a matter of give and take and whatever it is that Buhari is laying on the table in order for Babangida to endorse him ramains a conjecture.

Also, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)  has  made a public declaration to massively support President Jonathan in the February 14 presidential poll, assuring that millions of students, who  are solidly behind him for re-election and will not let him down.

The declaration came just as the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta, Hon. Kingsley Kuku, accused some key opposition leaders of being hypocritical  and sympathetic to corruption based on their pedigree, even as he stated that force alone cannot resolve the current insurgency in some parts of the North.

Kuku said political, traditional, religious leaders and other elite from the north hold the key to resolving the puzzle associated with insurgency, challenging them to borrow a leaf from their compatriots from the Niger Delta who took up the gauntlet  in the heydays of militancy in that region, culminating in a truce and the eventual granting of amnesty by the federal, which ushered in the extant peace in the area.

Led by its current President, Tijani Usman Shehu,  current executive members as well as past leaders of NANS  at the weekend thronged the Maitama, Abuja office of the Special Adviser to the President on  Niger Delta in their numbers from all the zones in the country, to convey their support for Jonathan.

Present and past leaders of NANS took turns to express their resolve to rally millions of students across the country to ensure Jonathan’s victory at the polls, citing what they described as his laudable record of achievements and disposition towards upholding the rule of law.

Presenting the letter conveying NANS’ decision to support Jonathan at the February 14 poll to Kuku for onward transmission to the president, NANS President, Tijani Usman Shehu, who read out the content said “the choices facing the country today in the course of nationhood are simple: To move forward or to recede backward.

The Arewa Youth Integrity Forum has promised to mobilise 20 million votes across the 19 northern states for President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term ambition.

The group in a statement signed by its National President, Hamid Usman, described Jonathan as a statesman who is sympathetic to the plight of his followers.
Usman also lauded Jonathan for the courage and bravery demonstrated in visiting Nigerian troops in Maiduguri’s, describing it as a bold step.

“Travelling to Maiduguri which is seen as a hotbed for crisis as not only commendable but exemplary for all intending leaders,” he said.

While expressing support for President Jonathan, Usman said the candidate of ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had proven his worth and deserves support from every Nigerian.

ore mi ,how far? The south west will be an interesting ground in the upcoming elections. One aspect about the south west is that yorubas have the capacity to vote in 2 different parties into 2 offices the same day without making any mistakes. Lagos state will be tough and hard but apc is most likely going to win the governorship elections there.I have always told people that for pdp to win the lagos seat, they need to have at least one third of the lagos state house of reps, one senator and one third of lagos local goverment councils for 4years and show ppl the difference. Yorubas believe a lot in performance. but I believe that this election will produce such for lagos pdp. For the presidential ,pdp will clear lagos state EASILY. We must understand that yorubas are not the only ones in lagos and even among yorubas in lagos, pdp still has a large following. In oyo state, the governorship is neither between apc or pdp, rather it is between 2 opposition parties with enough grassroot support. It is between accord party and labour party. But for the presidential ,pdp will clear oyo state easily. In osun state ,pdp may likely lose the presidential elections there because there isn't any governorship election coming, apc will have an undivided attention and will focus on the presidential .in ogun state, apc is most likely certain to win the governorship and this is the reason why obj is quickly aligning to the winning candidate there, the case of ogun is likely to be similar to that of ekiti, people in ogun state will be voting for amosun not apc, they will follow amosun to any party . But for the presidential,it is going to be a tough call. Pdp will win ekiti state without one single problem. Fayose will see to that. Ondo is a tough battle but iroko knows that the presidential elections in ondo is not about gej or gmb but about political supremacy in ondo politics,he has to show that he is still in charge of the state and that the defection of key pdp members has no effect,I see mimiko coming tops in this supremacy battle . Overall apc is most likely going to win 2 states while pdp win the remaining 4 states.
You are very correct.
