Politics / Re: We Will Not Deport Non-indigenes Rather We'll Recreate V.I In Epe,etc-Agbaje by idumuose(m): 1:12pm On Jan 24, 2015
Now, there is something unusual about Agbaje’s campaign strategy. Aside former motorcycle riders who were banned in Lagos State, and are embittered with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government, the non-indigene groups that were affected by the controversial policy that saw some people deported back to their states of origin, are said to be determined in making sure the APC was voted out.

They, like the motorcycle riders have had a taste of what critics of the state government have defined as the elitist nature of the administration. When the incumbent governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, campaigned in 2011 for re-election, he partly did so riding on the back of the motorcycle operators. He initially supported them with helmets and vests before the 2011 election. They, in return, followed him everywhere that he went to campaign. Weeks after he was re-elected, things changed.

Agbaje promised a different style of governance. In his plan for Lagos, in the area of economic empowerment, the he said “We will champion a Lagos that enables Lagosians to achieve their personal, entrepreneurial and professional aspirations.” This, he promised to do “regardless of origin, socio-economic background and gender.”

According to Agbaje, “the moment we say that non-indigenes must go, the indigenous land owners and landlords won’t find tenants to occupy their houses, and buyers to purchase their lands.”

At a similar meeting in Amuwo Odofin, Agbaje expressed disappointment that non-indigenes were leaving the state due to harsh economic conditions.

“Our industries are being relocated to neighbouring States like Ogun due to infrastructure and heavy taxation.”
To address this, he promised to come up with policies that would encourage industries in the state and also cushion the harsh economic plight of residents of the state.

Primarily, these are his selling points, but, a close study of his ongoing town hall meetings further reveal a campaign style that is expected to work for him, all things being equal. At these meetings, Agbaje dedicates a substantial amount of time to wooing non-indigenes in the state. He promises them far better treatment than what they are witnessing under the present administration.

At Ajeromi local government area, Agbaje, in reference to the controversial policy by the incumbent administration that sent several persons back to their states of origin, promised the audience, made up of a majority of non-indigene groups that none of them will be deported if elected.

“We will not deport non-indigenes from Lagos. Rather than drive people away, we will recreate Victoria Island in places like Ikorodu, Epe, Badagry and so on”.

Personality Focus

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has adopted an unusual approach to his campaign and could spring a surprise. Ojo M. Maduekwe writes

You can hardly fault his argument on the political economy of the state. He has the grasp and boasts rich content. Mr. Jimi Agbaje, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) told a curious audience that he had spent the last eight years studying the state with more than a passing interest.

Apart from having kept his eyes on the ball since his first outing in 2007, Agbaje claimed to have also spent time at some causes to improve his skills and general knowledge about leadership. Thus, whenever he is speaking, most times extempore, he showed a good knowledge of the Lagos environment.

Agbaje is however campaigning and canvassing for votes based on a seven-point agenda in security, health, education and youth empowerment, leadership and governance, transportation, economic empowerment and residential housing.

If Jimi Agbaje wins in Lagos, all that Tinubu believes he has “worked” for will be undermined. Fortunately most citizens and residents of Lagos increasingly recognize that Bola Tinubu’s permanent hegemony is not in their interest. They know that Tinubu has ruled Lagos directly and through proxies for sixteen years and that his design to now install an absolute puppet as stand-in governor for what he envisages as his defacto fifth term, should be prevented if their freedom and welfare is to be protected. They know that Lagos should not become the personal property of one individual and that Jimi Agbaje is the only one who can prevent that evil design.

Why Tinubu is Scared of Jimi Agbaje

24 Jan 2015

Yaya Adeyemi

Jimi Agbaje has always been Bola Tinubu’s worst nightmare. Agbaje’s emergence as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has made the prospect of that nightmare becoming real a distinct probability and Tinubu is now scared, very scared. That explains why he has gone on a paranoid offensive in a futile attempt to prevent Lagosians from voting for a man of honour, pedigree, integrity and courage, virtues which stand Jimi Agbaje in stark contrast with his traducers.

When Jimi Agbaje ran for governorship of Lagos State in 2007, he gave a very strong showing in spite of the fact that he was candidate of a small, largely insignificant party, the DPA. Tinubu has done everything to frustrate Jimi Agbaje’s political career to no avail, and is deeply worried by the fact that Agbaje has retained huge goodwill and indeed expanded same in spite of not occupying any public office. Tinubu fears that Jimi Agbaje is one of the few people who can disrupt his elaborately executed plans since 1999 to transform Lagos into his personal fiefdom and to secure a “majority shareholding” and “Board Chairmanship” in what he conceives to be his “Nigeria Plc” with a dispensable Buhari as nominal CEO and his surrogate as Deputy CEO

Politics / Re: Chaos Looms In Ekiti As Fayose Plans Parallel Rally Tomorrow by idumuose(m): 8:12pm On Jan 23, 2015
NgeneUkwenu:
[s]Chaos is looming in Ekiti State, western Nigeria, as the Governor of the state, Ayodele Fayose, has been accused of planning to hold a rally of his  party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to coincide with that of the All Progressives Party, APC, on Saturday, 24 January.

The APC had scheduled its presidential campaign rally for Ado-Ekiti on Saturday, but expressed shock that Governor Fayose decided to hold a parallel rally on the same day.

The governor’s aide, Lere Olayinka, however, debunked the allegation, saying PDP wasn’t planning any parallel rally on Saturday.

He told P.M.NEWS on Friday that APC’s allegation was a ready alibi to explain why nobody in Ekiti would come out to participate in its presidential rally on Saturday.

He said PDP was not running the state the way APC did under Governor Kayode Fayemi, adding that the PDP government of Fayose has allowed Buhari’s commercials to run on the state radio.

Governor Ayo Fayose

APC on Friday warned Governor  Fayose against disrupting or interfering in any way with its presidential campaign rally in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday, saying the governor’s plan to hold a parallel rally on the same day is a recipe for chaos.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary,  Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party wondered why  Governor Fayose will schedule a rally also for Saturday at Fajuyi Park, which is a major route to the venue of the APC presidential campaign rally, the State Pavillion along NTA Road in Ado-Ekiti.

“This is nothing but a deliberate act of provocation, and it is a dangerous game by a Governor who has now become notorious for making incendiary statements and taking irrational actions. Gov. Fayose should be told in clear terms that being the Governor of a state demands huge responsibility, not brazen rascality,’’ it said.

APC wondered what point the Governor was trying to prove by seeking to set the supporters of his party, the PDP, against those of our party, which is basically what he is planning to do by organizing a parallel rally along a major route to ours at Ado-Ekiti on Saturday.

The party said its members and supporters, in line with their peaceful nature and the ethos of APC, neither disrupted nor interfered with the PDP presidential campaign rally at Ado, and finds it difficult to understand why the Governor will be plotting to trigger chaos and disrupt the APC presidential campaign rally.

“There must be a limit to mischief and waggishness, especially from a Governor that almost set Nigeria on fire with an irresponsible, incendiary and repugnant advertisement wishing our presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, dead.

“Since everything points to the fact that Gov. Fayose lacks the capacity to understand the implication of his actions, it is high time his masters called him to order before he sets the country on fire. A good starting point is to warn him against holding a parallel tally at Ado on Saturday.

“The security agencies should also advise the Governor against actions that are capable of triggering violence and disrupting public peace. If the Governor fails to heed the voice of reason, then he should be solely held responsible if there is any breach of peace or a disruption of the APC presidential campaign rally at Ado-Ekiti on Saturday,’’ it said.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has raised the alarm over the violence the PDP has launched as a campaign strategy in Lagos.

The party said that the increasing spate of violence the PDP has launched in Lagos will breach the peace and security of Lagos, if law enforcement agencies continue to turn a blind eye to the excesses of the party.

In a release in Lagos, signed by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Joe Igbokwe, the party said it had been inundated by reports of various acts of violence the PDP has visited on its party members all over Lagos as well as the removal of APC campaign posters in various parts of Lagos.

It warned that its tolerance and commitment to play by the rules should not be misconstrued as weakness as the party members may be forced to react if the security agencies continue to look the other way as PDP launders violence in a bid to violently capture Lagos.

“Our party is alarmed that what the PDP wants to plunge a peaceful and very secured state like Lagos to mindless violence in a bid to capture the state in view of the negative reception it receives among Lagosians. Yesterday, there were several reports of PDP instigated violence in many parts of Lagos and we wonder if this is what the PDP wants to use to capture the enlightened state of Lagos. Yesterday, in Orile Agege, an APC member, Mr. Peter Eyitayo was shot dead by thugs of a PDP candidate and another member is presently undergoing surgery as a result of gunshot by the same hoodlums in Agege. This case is well known to the Divisional Police Officer at Elere Police Station, Agege, the State Commissioner and the Lagos State Police Command. There were also reports of attacks launched by PDP thugs in Lagos Island and some other parts of Lagos.

“Also, we want to let the general public know that the PDP has embarked on a campaign of vandalizing APC posters and billboards all over Lagos and we urge Lagosians to be fully vigilant and report and apprehend these vandals where ever they see them and also report to the nearest police station or our party offices and officials

I Will Never Contest Elections Again - Buhari. [/size]

Presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) General Muhammdu Buhari (rtd)  has said that he will not seek any elective office again after  Saturday's Presidential election.

Speaking at grand finale of  his electioneering campaign in Abuja yesterday, Buhari said the 2011 campaign was significant for him because it is an election in which more unambigously than the previous two, “2003 and 2007, our victory is assured as evidenced by the unprecedented turnout by people and spontaneous popular acclaim all over the country.”

“This campaign is the third and last one for me since after it I will not present myself again for election into the office of the president,” Buhari said.

However sources close to the Kano state governor, Mallam Rabiu Kwankwaso, have revealed that the governor has since been moving around pillars of his cult like followership to calm their nerves so as to abate failure in the February polls.

Indications are rife that all is not well with the Kano state chapter of the All Progressives Congress ( APC ), as a result of a cold war between the Kano State governor, Alh . Rabiu Kwankwaso and the party’s presidential Flagbearer, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

The crisis which has already began to polarise the party along loyalty lines has been blamed on what watchers claim high handedness by the presidential aspirant. They allege that Gen. Buhari has refused to recognise any other power bloc within the party especially the Kwankwasiya movement which is acclaimed to be one of the biggest blocs in the party nationwide.

Political watchers have attributed his refusal to handover the party’s flag to the state governorship aspirant, Alh. Umar Ganduje during the just concluded presidential rally, as a fall out of this feud as he was not to disposed to Ganduje ‘ s emergence owing to the latter’s membership of the Kwankwasiya.

This rivalry many believe has been in existence since the founding of the APC where legacy members of the party were not comfortable with the newcomers whom they claimed had come to take their place. It has also been gathered that the lack of trust between Kwankwaso and Buhari may stem from the latter’s comments in 2010 when he called the General a serial coupist.

Speaking exclusively to our correspondent, Mallam Tanko Bamali a party stalwart lamented the situation, according to him since Buhari’s entrance into the party due to merger, the opposition has become divided and even caused defection of major stakeholders in Kano.
