The Lagos State Government has made the announcement that it has discharged 93 more COVID-19 patients as they have fully recovered and tested negative twice.

Also, it was reported that 118 new infections on Sunday were recorded, bringing the total confirmed cases in Lagos to 10,144 out of which 1,592 have been discharged and 126 have died.

The Lagos state Health Ministry tweeted, “Today, 93 fully recovered COVID19 patients; 16 females and 77 males including 11 foreign nationals were discharged from our Isolation facilities to reunite with the society.

“The patients; 11 from Agidingbi, 22 from Gbagada, 36 from Lekki, 8 from Eti-Osa (LandMark), 9 from Onikan and 7 from LUTH Isolation Centres were discharged after full recovery and testing negative to COVID19.”

The NCDC also made the announcement on Sunday that it has recorded 490 new cases in 20 states.

It stated, “On the 28th of June 2020, 490 new confirmed cases and 7 deaths were recorded in Nigeria. No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

A petrol tanker has exploded at Azare, headquarters of Katagum local government area of Bauchi state and has reportedly killed two people.

It was learnt that the incident happened on Friday around 3am the tanker was said to have been discharging petrol at a fuel station in the town exploded and killed two persons.

An eye witness said that the tanker was on its way out of the town when a cable fell on it and it then exploded going up in flames; this caused commotion in the town leaving people very frantic.

He said that the incident happened at the First Bank roundabout close to the General Hospital Road within the Azare town.

“It was in the process of scampering for safety that the two people trapped in the tanker believed to be the driver and motor boy were burnt to death. Their bodies were later evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital morgue,” he said.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, DSP Ahmed Wakil, also confirmed the incident.

The police PRO said that the tanker driver was lucky to be alive although he sustained some injuries and is currently in the hospital receiving treatment. Wakil said the two casualties who died were among the ones running for safety when the tanker exploded.

Some unknown gunmen have kidnapped 10 humanitarian aid workers who were distributing food in a village in southwestern Niger, according to a statement by the worker’s NGO.

Kadidiatou Harouna, of the Action and Impact Progress (APIS), gave an account of the incidence on Thursday, he said the men drove into the village in the Tillaberi region on Wednesday afternoon on a motorbike and ordered the victims to follow them.

She told the AFP news agency APIS, a partner of the UN World Food Programme, that had worked in the very tense region close to the borders with Burkina Faso and Mali “without problems” last year.

Both a German aid worker and an Italian priest were kidnapped in the region back in 2018.

Gunmen in the area have paraded several attacks on the community, and have stolen vehicles of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Doctors Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres, or MSF) who have worked in the region.

One of the MSF stolen vehicles was used May 2019 in a failed attack on a high-security prison close to the Niger capital, Niamey, where some fighters were imprisoned, according to government officials.

The ruling political party of Nigeria, the APC has dissolved its National Working Committee.

The decision to dissolve the committee was made at the last National Executive Council meeting held on Thursday.

Bashir Ahmad, an aide to the President Buhari, tweeted, “Following the recommendation of President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been dissolved.”

The APC has been going through a tug of war between some of its members. A few weeks ago, some members of the NWC appointed senator Abiola Ajimobi as the acting chairman of the party, following the suspension of the chairman Comrade Adams Oshiomole.

Victor Giadom, who countered the move by addressing a press conference on June 17, when he declared himself as the acting chairman. He presented a judgment of the FCT high court, which in March gave him the authority to be the acting national chairman.

“But the case referred to was not managed for Covid19, it was a serious ailment,  20 days ago he had a major surgical operation, opened from neck to abdomen. The gentleman in question had cancer of the bone marrow.

“And when diagnosed for such ailment, hardly, can the person live up to five years.

“But three days to his demise, he started coughing and his samples were taken and sent to Abuja and came out positive.

“So, It is possible that the deceased who was not in isolation center must have had contact with a coronavirus victim through those who were visiting him in the hospital.

There has been a sudden surge in teen pregnancies in Kenya over a period of five months and is now threatening to cut short the goal for education among school-going young girls.

Machakos county, which is located in the north eastern province in Kenya is leading several other counties in terms of teenage pregnancies in Kenya according to Kenya Health Information System survey.

Reports of the data shows that a total of 3,964 girls aged 19 years and below were reported pregnant within that period.

Machakos County Children Officer Salome Muthama said the pregnancy cases among school girls are actually under reported.

“During this coronavirus pandemic we do have 4000 impregnated girls. These are so many innocent girls,” she said.

She further explained that most of the cases were as a result of defilement and abuse by close family members of the girls.

She adds that roughly about 200 of these girls are aged 14 years and below.

“How can a 12 year old girl become a mother?” she posed.

“All the people who have impregnated these children needs be arraigned but it is becoming a challenge. We need special court sittings to address and deal with these cases,” Salome appealed.

Black Lives Matter activist Oluwatoyin Salau‘s legacy and beliefs still lives on, despite her tragic death. 

The Tallahassee Police Department, on Monday announced in a press release that the bodies of two missing people, 19-year-old Salau and 75-year-old Victoria Sims, have been found. The corpses of the two victims were found dead on Saturday night, June 13, at around 9:15 p.m. EST.

The Tallahassee Police Department stated that the suspect, identified as 49-year-old Aaron Glee Jr., has been arrested by authorities. 

There statement read “The deaths are being investigated as homicides and have been turned over to TPD’s Violent Crime Unit. The investigation is ongoing.”

For now, the local authorities aren’t releasing any more details and information about this case.

On June 6, Oluwatoyin posted a series of tweets stating that she was sexually assaulted by a man earlier that day in Tallahassee. According to CNN that was the last time she was seen.

She wrote “Anyways I was molested in Tallahassee, Florida by a black man this morning at 5:30 on Richview and Park Ave. The man offered to give me a ride to find someplace to sleep and recollect my belongings from a church I refuged to a couple days back to escape unjust living conditions.”

The 19-year-old said she trusted the man’s intentions to help her out, writing that he came disguised as a man of God.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic the Oscar awards has been postponed until April next year.

The Academy Awards has in recent years usually been scheduled for the early months of the year. The one for 2020 was scheduled for February 28 but the Covid-19 pandemic unfortunately did not allow the event to hold.

As a result, it has been rescheduled for April 25 2021.

The last time Oscars took place in the month of April was in 1988.

In addition to the new event date, the Academy has also rolled back several other related elements of the Awards, which includes the eligibility period. From now on, any feature films that have been released between Jan. 1 and Feb. 28, 2021 are eligible for Academy Awards consideration. The submission deadline for specialty categories, such as Animated Feature Film and Documentary Feature, is December 1, while the submission deadline for general entry categories, like Best Picture and Original Song, is Jan. 15, 2021.

The shooting at the Presidential Villa that involved Usman Shugaba, the Aide-de-Camp to the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, and other security officials attached to her are now top of the agenda of the police management team meeting today (Monday).

It was gathered in Abuja on Sunday that the security aides of the First Lady’s are to face a panel set up by the leadership of the police.

The security aides in question would not be reassigned to the wife of the President as a result of their involvement in an altercation with a personal assistant and nephew of the President, Sabiu Yusuf, also known as Tunde, last Thursday, that occurred at the Presidential Villa.

The issue started on Thursday night, when the first lady and her children – Zahra, Halima and Yusuf – and also some of her security aides, entered the residence of Yusuf at House 8 by the Pilot Gate of the Presidential Villa.

They demanded that Yusuf, who had just returned from a trip to Lagos, should self-isolate for 14 days, to save the President and his family from the danger of COVID-19.

Yusuf who visited his wife, that recently delivered of a child in Lagos.

The situation got critical when the First Lady’s ADC, in his attempt to apprehend Yusuf allegedly resulted to releasing some gunshots on the premises.

Manchester United scouts are urging for the club to sign Nigeria’s Wilfred Ndidi from Leicester City.

Wilfred Ndidi’s performance in the Premier League this season has left an indelible mark on United scouts, and they have delivered impressive reports on the 23-year-old to the club’s manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Solksjaer is currently surfing the market for a new midfielder this summer.

And although he’s been connected with Ajax ace Donny van de Beek, United scouts have a preference for Ndidi.

The University of Ibadan has stated that they only issued one certificate to the governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki.

The All Progressive Congress had initially pointed out that they noticed discrepancies in the governor’s university certificates and on that basis disqualified the governor from participating in the state primary elections.

The National Working Committee of the All Progressive Congress lead by National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, on Saturday, received the statement from the APC Screening Appeal Committee led by Abubakar Fari, which said, “It is inconceivable that the same University will award two certificates with separate dates for the same graduate.

“We also find it difficult to vouch for the authenticity of his National Youth Service Corps certificate, there is no indication as to where he served. We find that he should be disqualified.”

Adams Oshiomole congratulated the committee on a job well done.

He said “It appears you were extremely meticulous to details and you justified ours – not in terms of your findings but in terms of what you were able to amplify. That you have an eye for very important details.

“We are happy you were able to finish this work timeously. This is the final appeal level, what is left now is the NWC will meet and take a decision one way or the other,” he said.

However, the registrar of the University of Ibadan, Olubunmi Faluyi maintained that governor Obaseki is an Alumnus of the institution

Three offspring of same guardians, Mr and Mrs Michael Anor were on Saturday night consumed in a fire incident that occurred in Awka, Anambra State.

FOJUSI discovered that the fire which broke out in a private structure began in one of the flats after a jar of lamp oil that was at the rear of a refrigerator detonated.

The fire got the three children who were in the flat, however they were in the end saved with differing degrees of injury by firemen who put off the fire after they were alarmed by neighbours.

In the interim, it was assembled that one of the children passed on Sunday morning from the injury sustained from the fire, while the other two have been moved to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Awka for treatment.

Mr Martin Agbili, the main fireman in Anambra State who affirmed the fire stated, “We received a distress call of fire outbreak at Brave-Heart Flats at the 1st floor of a 3-storeyed building, opposite Marian Plaza, Close to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Iyiagu Estate Awka.

“We deployed our firefighters and two fire trucks to the scene. We put off the fire, and no life was lost, but three children in the flat were burnt and were rushed to the Prime Specialist Hospital at Awka.

The authorities stated that the body of Robert Fuller was found hanging from a tree in Palmdale, Califonia. Members of his family said that they strongly doubt that Robert would commit suicide.

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian is one of several celebrities who have called for a thorough investigation into the death of the black man found hanging from a tree in a Southern California park. 

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said that the body of Robert Fuller was found by some people in the early hours of Wednesday morning, June 10 close to Palmdale City Hall. They described the case as a “possible suicide” even though members of Fuller’s family cast doubts on their initial findings. 

The authorities said they have conducted two autopsies on fuller’s corpse, and the two of them indicate that he committed suicide. However they said investigations have not been concluded.

Protesters gathered together on Friday near the scene of Fuller’s death and created the hashtag #JusticeForRobertFuller which is now trending on social media. 

Kim Kardashian posted on Twitter asking her followers to sign a petition demanding for a thorough and proper investigation into Robert Fuller’s death.

Multiple Award Winning Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale has opened up concerning why he doesn’t move toward female artistes for a feature rather the opposite occurs.

Accounting for himself in a meeting on UTV’s United Showbiz facilitated by Nana Ama McBrown, Shatta Wale said that the greater part of the female artistes in the business are not as radical and “crazy” as he is so it’s hard for him to move toward them for an element.

He included that, “most of these female artistes don’t understand the business side of music. Assuming I tell a female artiste I want to touch her boobs during a video shoot for my song, she may disagree and because I am eager to promote my song, we may end up fighting which I dislike.”

When inquired as to why he concurs when Female artistes approach him for a feature, Shatta Wale noticed that; “Some of them feel I have the power to make their music sell quickly and once I listen to the track and I like it, I will definitely jump on it”.

The ” Taking Over” hit producer anyway exhorted female artistes not to be reluctant to face challenges with regards to the art industry since it’s the main way they can be paid attention to.
