The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed the death of four persons in a ghastly motor accident which occurred on Lambata-Minna road in Niger state.

Niger state’s Sector Commander, Mr Joel Dagwa, told journalists in Minna that six other people sustained various degrees of injuries.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reversed the acquittal of an ex Chief of Administration of the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal Alkali Mamu (retd.). The Air Vice Marshall was accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of receiving graft from a contractor with the Nigerian Air Force.

Previously, the AVM was acquitted of the charge by justice Salisu Garba of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Maitama, Abuja, on June 29, 2018, on grounds that the EFCC couldn’t provide sufficient evidence against the AVM.

Mamu was one of the senior Air Force officers accused of abusing their positions by the Presidential Committee on the Audit of Defence Equipment Procurement, which was tasked with probing contracts awarded for military procurements.

The anti graft agency accused Mamu and some other senior officers in the Air Force of receiving bribe from a firm, Societe D’ Equipments Internationaux Nigeria Limited, which was a contractor for the Nigerian Air Force.

The president of the African Development Bank, Mr. Akinwumi Adesina has been cleared of all corruption allegations against him. The investigative panel was lead by the former Irish president Mary Robinson.

Adesina who is the first Nigerian to hold the position has been president of the AFDB since 2015. However earlier this year, a 15-page allegation report was laid against the president accusing him of favoritism, impunity, personal enrichment and poor governance.

The investigate panel comprised of three prominent leaders: former president of Ireland, Mary Robinson, Gambia’s Chief Justice Hassan Jallow and World Bank’s integrity vice president Leonard McCarthy. They cleared Adesina of all allegations.

“The Panel concurs with the Committee in its findings in respect of all the allegations against the President and finds that they were properly considered and dismissed by the Committee,” Monday’s report stated.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Monday arraigned the Managing Director of Renocon Properties Development Limited, Mr. Babatunde Morakinyo for failing to report in writing the transfers of $1.2 million and N46 million to the agency.

The EFCC filed a six count charge against Mr. Morakinyo.

The anti graft agency said the transfers were made between 2013 and 2015. And accused the MD and his firm of violating section 10(1) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011.

Mr. Morakinyo and his firm have since pleaded not guilty.

The judge has adjourned the case till October 15, when the trial will commence.

A lawsuit filed against the telecommunications giant in Nigeria, MTN by a lady named, Toyin Adejare back in 2014 has been concluded and the Ms. Toyin eventually lost the case.

The suit marked 1/729/2014 filed by the subscriber against the telco giant for blocking her number without her consent and authorization, stating that the act was illegal.

Ms. Toying asked that the court should award the sum of N1m as damages and N5m and N50m as damages on the grounds of trespass and general damages, respectively.

Tomiwa Akinbiyi headed the prosecution council, while Isiaka Olagunju and Olajumoke Oladejo were defendants for MTN for a case that lasted six years.

Justice E. O. Ajayi upon delivering judgement in the Oyo state High Court, Ibadan said “It follows that the claimant, by her plea, had technically admitted that there were terms and conditions for the purchase and of use of a SIM starter pack.”

“The claimant, in her evidence, said she never requested a swap of her line. However, since forgery is a crime, the law puts the burden on the claimant in this case to prove same beyond reasonable doubt.

“The claimant failed to prove that the signature in exhibit B was forged coupled with the fact that same was tendered without any objection and this led the court to be of the considered view that there are terms and conditions guiding the transaction between the claimant and the defendant and I hold accordingly.”

A building collapsed today, July 24 in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos state with several people believed to be trapped inside.

The building is located around Health Centre area in Ebute Metta.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency through its spokesperson, Mr. Nosa Okunbor confirmed the incident.

The spokesman didn’t disclose if there were persons trapped beneath the rubbles.

“Our personnel are on ground at the scene and rescue operation is ongoing,” he said.

Uganda has recorded its first COVID-19 fatality. The Ugandan Director General Health Services, Mr. Henry Mwebesa disclosed this during a press briefing.

The victim was a 34-year old woman who resides in the Namisindwa District

“The deceased was initially admitted to Wasungui HC II on Wednesday, 15th July, 2020 and treated for severe pneumonia. However, on Monday, 20th July, 2020, she was transferred to Joy Hospice health facility, in Mbale District, where she was isolated in the female ward.

“While in isolation, the patient’s condition deteriorated with difficulty in breathing, cough, chills and headache. Unfortunately, she passed on on Tuesday 21st July, 2020 at 2:00 am. She was buried on 23rd July 2020 as per Safe Dignified Burial procedures,” the director said.

Uganda, like Botswana and Burundi have recorded only single deaths from coronavirus. Countries like Eritrea and Seychelles have not had any fatalities from the disease...

The United Arab Emirates has sent out a notice to Nigerians who are in the country with expired visas to leave the country latest August 17.

In response, the Nigerian embassy in the UAE, has told all concerned citizens to endevour to join the evacuation flights that will be transporting Nigerian citizens back home.

According to a statement, titled “Public Notice” put out by the Nigerian embassy in the UAE, dated July 21, the embassy told all concerned citizens to submit necessary documents for evacuation processing.

It read “The Embassy wishes to inform that the government of the United Arab Emirates has granted waivers on fines/penalties on visas that expired before 1st March 2020 to leave the country on or before 17th of August 2020.

“Consequently, the Embassy is urging fellow Nigerians living in the UAE to avail themselves of this opportunity to return home with the impending Air Peace evacuation flight scheduled for 1st August 2020, and or subsequent Emirates evacuation flights before the expiration of the grace period.

The Department of State Security Service, DSS has responded to reports that one of its authorities at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, Safiyanu Abba, slapped a security official at the airport.

Daughter of lawmaker Murtala Kore has been abducted by unidentified gunmen in Kano State.

The police in Ondo state has arrested one Iyabo Julius and her lover Adedayo Sunday for killing a commercial motorcyclist Suleiman Azeez.

The incident was reported to have taken place in the Odigbo area of Ondo state.

The suspects were paraded at the Police headquarters in Akure.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bolaji Salami said the 23-year old Iyabo connived with her new lover to rob and kill Suleiman so they can get married.

One Suleiman Azeez, 25, a commercial motorcyclist, left home for his daily bread with his Bajaj motorcycle but did not return home. His body was later found in a pool of blood around the 12/12 area Odigbo via Ore.

An angry mob have set a Dangote commercial truck on fire in retaliation for killing a motorcycle rider in Ogun State.
