Politics / The North Owns 75% Of Indigenous Oil Firms, So Why Are They Demanding Derivation by Igwe12: 4:34pm On Feb 27, 2012
The north owns more indigenous oil firms than any other group in Nigeria because of military rule and corruption, so why are they the poorest in Nigeria and why are they demanding more Derivation from oil??

This article says it all,

LINK: http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/front-page-news/35947-nigerias-poverty-level-rises-hits-715-sokoto-niger-top-list-of-poorest-states.

The North is poor, this much no one disputes, the poverty has bred millions of destitutes, who have become instant and easy recruits for Boko-Haram. But the question is: Who impoverished the North? I want to posit that the Core North through their aristocrats and ex-military rulers rake an enormous income from oil money (from the Niger Delta) individually, much more than any Individual/group of individuals from the South, and collectively more than 10 times the entire Niger Delta business men in the oil and gas industry put together.

In this disquisition, I have attempted to show that an estimated 75% of crude oil and gas produced by indigenous companies is controlled by the North. It is an area they have well conquered through General IBB, Abacha and Abdulsalami. However, the loots never get back home.

In this first part I will attempt to describe the very uneven nature of the distribution of the nation’s wealth among the Northern aristocratic families and their military generals who for decades looted Nigeria. They did so blatantly, and while Nigeria was weeping about oil windfall loot and others, Nigerians would wail if they know how much of the nation’s resources these folks allocated to themselves and their business fronts before they stepped aside.

Let us therefore begin.

To the state of origin of Boko Haram: Borno State.

Enter Cavendish Petroleum, the operators of OML 110 – with good yielding OBE field. This oil block was awarded to Alhaji Mai Deribe - the Borno patriarch, who even in death will remain the richest man dead or alive in the history of Borno state- by General Sani Abacha on the 8th of July, 1996.

OML 110 has a proven oil reserve in excess of 500 million barrels (More than the entire 300milliom barrels reserve of Sudan). As yet with the capacity to produce about 120,000 barrels of crude oil daily from its OBE 4 and OBE 5 wells.

At current production levels, the Mai Deribes net circa N4billion monthly in crude oil sales (Using oil price estimates of $100 p/b).

Mai Deribe’s mansion, in allegedly poor Maiduguri is one of the most lavish mansions anywhere on earth; it used to be a tourist attraction, b4 Boko Haram’s tourism deterrent activities -

I will then shift to the centre of the Fulani aristocratic hegemony in the North – Kano. Here. Enter the Fulani Prince Nasiru Ado Bayero, Mallam (Prince) Sanusi Lamido Sanusi’s cousin.

He is a Key shareholder and director in Seplat/Platform petroleum operators of the Asuokpu/Umutu Marginal Field with a capacity of 300,000 barrels monthly and A 30mmfcsd gas plant capable of feeding 100MT of LPG. The Ado Bayeros, Yar’Aduas and Atiku Abubakar are Nigerian holders of Intels. It runs a private port that has grounded three Federal ports in the South. Intels is discussed later.

Enter South Atlantic Petroleum Limited (SAPETRO). South Atlantic Petroleum (SAPETRO) is a Nigerian Oil Exploration and Production Company that was created in 1995 by General T. Y. Danjuma (also Chairma of ENI Nigeria). General Sani Abacha awarded the Oil Prospecting License (OPL) 246 to SAPETRO in February 1998.

The block covers a total area of 2,590km2 (1,000 sq. miles). SAPETRO partnered with Total Upstream Nigeria Ltd (TUPNI) and Brasoil Oil Services Company Nigeria Ltd (Petrobras) to start prospecting on OPL246. Akpo, a condensate field was discovered in April 2000 with the drilling of the first exploration well (Akpo 1) on the block. Other discoveries made on OPL 246 include the Egina Main, Egina South, Preowei and Kuro (Kuro was suspended as a dry gas/minor oil discovery).

In June 2006, General TY Danjuma divested part of its contractor rights and obligations to China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) for $1 billion (N160bn). Akpo exports about 230,000 barrels of condensate daily. Condensate export is not regulated by OPEC, so SAPETRO/TOTAL exports as much as possible each day. Egina exports about 75,000 barrels of oil daily.

Therefore, Akpo and Egina fields export just over 300,000 barrels of oil/condensate daily (three times what the country Ghana exports). SAPETRO (TY Danjuma) get’s 25% of this. Now, note I have not talked about the gas component – it’s about 2.5 trillion cubic feet. The money SAPETRO nets each month is more than the monthly statutory allocation to any Nigerian state and also more than the oil revenue of Ghana. Do your math.

Enter AMNI (or is it AMIN?) International Petroleum Development Company. AMNI owns two oil blocks – OML 112 and OML 117. In the production-sharing contract, AMNI gets 60% for owning the oil block and Total gets 40% for providing technical advice. OML 112 was awarded on the 12/02/1998 while OML 117 was awarded 04/08/1999 all by Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar. Operations started on both blocks 0n 26/02/2006. The licenses are due to expire 11/02/2018 and 05/08/2019 respectively. (Now you see why the next election is important?).

The Okoro and Setu fields in OML 112 are operated by Afren Energy, a company substantially controlled by Rilwanu Lukman. The Okoro and Setu oil fields have about 50 million barrels in reserve and currently produce/exports just a little below 20,000 barrels per day. The chairman of AMNI International Petroleum and Development Company is Alhaji (Colonel) Sani Bello a Fulani from Kontagora, Niger State. Lest I forget, Alhaji Bello’s son- Abu, is married to General Abdusalami Abubakar's eldest daughter.

Enter Oriental Energy Resources Limited, a company owned by Alhaji Mohammed Indimi, a close friend of General Ibrahim Babangida. Also worthy of note is that General IBB’s first son is married to Alhaji Mohammed Indimi’s daughter – Yakolo Indimi-Babangida, who also serves as a director in the company. Alhaji Indimi hails from Niger State.

Oriental Energy Resources Limited runs three oil blocks: OML 115, the Okwok field and the Ebok field. OML 115 and Okwo are OML PSC, while Ebok is an OML JV. All of them crown offshore oil blocks.

OML 115 on its own is 228 sq Km. On OML115 Oriental Energy Resources Limited has 60 per cent while Equity Energy Resources AS, which Alhjai Aliko Dangote’s oil and gas investment vehicle has 40 per cent (Aliko Dangote is from Kano). On Okwok, Addax has 40% and on the Ebok field, Oriental Energy Resources shares with none: its 100%. AMNI produces twice as much as Cavendish Petroleum.

Enter Express Petroleum and Gas Limited floated by Alhaji Aminu Dantata, solely for the purpose of fronting for winning oil block(s) even though he and the company are in no way qualified for the award. General Abacha awarded him OML 108 on the 1st of November, 1995. CAMAC Houston, a company owned by Kase Lawal bought 2.5% of Express Petroleum’s 60% holdings. The other 40% on OML 108 is owned by Sheba E&P Limited an IBB tributary company. SEPCOL operates the Ukpokiti offshore field in Shallow water Nigeria, which was acquired from ConocoPhillips in May 2004.

Enter Shebah Exploration And Production Limited (SEPCOL) . It is the operator of the Oil Mining License 108 offshore Nigeria. Head office is in Lagos, but ‘head quartered’ in Minna.

Enter Consolidated Oil. Conoil Producing Limited is an integrated upstream oil and gas company. They are the operator of six blocks in the Niger Delta as well as 25% Equity holder in the Joint Development Zone (JDZ) Block 4. Corporate Head office is in Lagos, but its ‘Headquarters’ is in Minna, Niger State.

Conoil signed a technical operator agreement with Continental Oil and Gas Limited (CONOG) to provide 100% funding and technical service agreement to operate blocks OML 59 on a 40% (Conoil) / 60% (CONOG) basis. Conoil entered into a Production Sharing Contract with the NNPC by virtue of an agreement executed on 17th October 2008.

Conoil’s has overall potential hydrocarbon resources of over 1.0 Billion Barrels of Oil and 7.0 Trillion Cubic Feet of Gas. General Ibrahim Babangida (IBB owns a substantial interest in conoil held in blind trust [same arrangement in Glo] ) awarded the first oil block to Conoil in 1991. The company produces about 100,000 barrels per day.

Enter Rilwanu Lukman, another Fulani multimillionaire with fronted controlling holdings in Afren, the operators of AMNI oil blocks and also with very key interest in the NNPC/Vitol trading deal, Vitol is a London based oil trading company. Vitol lifts 350,000 barrels of crude oil daily from Nigeria.

Enter Intels and the Yar’Adua , Ado Bayero family and Alhaji Abubakar Atiku. The Oil and Gas Free Zone and Oil Services Centres, as well as Support Bases, are operated from government-owned facilities, leased to Intels under long-term agreements. Intels runs a ‘private port’, a venture that has systematically killed the Calabar, Warri and Port Harcourt ports. There are over one hundred major companies operating at the Intel facility in Port Harcourt. The company makes more money in profit than the government of Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta states put together. I shall give details and figures in the part two of this disquisition.

Finally, for the Part I of this disquisition, I introduce you to NorthEast Petroleum. The name is as clear as the message it sends. I do not need to write so much about NorthEast Petroleum registered as NorEast. NorthEast Petroleum Nigeria Limited is the holder of OPL215 license, covering an area 0f 2,564 square kilometres in water depths between 200 to 1600 metres. NorEast is the parent company of Rayflosh Petroleum was awarded the blocks OPLs 276 & 283 closing thereupon a Joint Venture Agreement with Centrica Resources Nigeria Limited and CCC Oil and Gas.

Not surprising, NorthEast Petroleum is owned by another Fulani businessman from the North East, Alhaji Saleh Mohammed Jambo. The license was awarded to him by General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida in 1991 and then renewed in 2004. So far $50Million has been spent on the very promising Okpoi-1 and Egere -1 exploratory well.

In the Part II, we shall finish the discussion. We will table other North Eastern billionaires who make more money than their states of origin from Niger Delta oil blocks.

Sadly, National Bureau of Statistics reports from 2010 show Niger State as the poorest state in the Federation, and the North East the poorest region. With these figures from the National Bureau of Statistics, I rest my case. BY Samuel Diminas

Business / Lagos Government Is Not Patronizing Nigeria Car Industry by Igwe12: 12:22am On Nov 18, 2011
We have 5 car manufacturing/Assemble plants in Nigeria and 2 that can assemble good and durable buses:-Innosson and Annamco. Why is the lagos government importing BRT buses? This is why Nigeria is not growing. Fashola should be protested about this.

http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=67685:unity-banks-facility-for-brt-buses-hits-n9811m-&catid=31:business&Itemid=562

THE Managing Director of Unity Bank Plc, Mr. Ado Wanka recently said that the bank had financed the purchase of BRT buses to the tune of $6.3 million (N981.1 million).

Wanka said this during the celebration of Unity Bank Day at the ongoing 2011 Lagos Trade fair.

He said that the bank also provided another N215 million to ensure the buses were cleared from the port, registered, kitted and have parking spaces.

According to him, “in this way the bank was participating in the Lagos State Government’s efforts to make Lagos a Mega City.”

“Let me remind us of peculiar challenges of transportation in Lagos. Simply put, movement in Lagos can be tricky.

“That is why Unity Bank financed the purchase of 100 42 seater buses by HFZ Transport Services at a cost of $6, 330,000.

“Moreover, to ensure port clearance, proper vehicle registration, kitting and provision of parking spaces for the buses we also provided a further financial outlay of N251, 000,000.

“In this way, we are participating in the steps being taken by the administration of Governor Babatunde Fashola to reshape Lagos into a model city of the 21st century,” he said.

Wanka said that the bank would continue to partner with the government to transform Lagos positively, adding that that was demonstrated by its participation in collection of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

He said that the bank had 36 branches in Lagos and 18 in Kaduna parading latest Information Technology infrastructure, adding that that underscored the importance, which the bank attached to Lagos.

He said that the bank was the first to implement the Oracle 11g on Banks’ Application Software.

The managing director said that the bank’s latest products included Unity BetA, Unity PAYS, and Unity Holy Trip.

He added that Unity BetA, empowered small business and entrepreneurs to grow their businesses while Unity PAYS, provided customer opportunity to buy valuable assets like generator sets and machines.

He also said that Unity Holy Trip, provided opportunity for customer to save for pilgrimage and features BTA allowance and 50 per cent credit facility.

The President of Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Mr. Femi Deru, commended the bank for having over 5, 000 people in its employment.

He said that this made them the largest employer of labour, adding that they should keep it up and work hard to meet its quest of being the highest capitalised bank in 2016.

Elumelu Set to Become Chairman of Transcorp

Chairman of Heirs Holding Limited, Mr. Tony Elumelu

The shares of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp) Plc moved 1.1 per cent last Friday for the first time in five days at the stock market following the announcement that the Chairman of Heirs Holding Limited, Mr. Tony Elumelu, has been appointed to the Board of the company.

Transcorp’s equity price, which remained at N0.90 per share since Monday, consequently closed at N0.91 on Friday. High supply of the shares in the market by investors who were selling to take profit had depressed the equity by over 50 per cent in the past weeks, falling from a high of N1.82 to N0.90 last Monday.

However, the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) told market operators that Elumelu had been appointed to the Board of Transcorp alongside Dr. Julius Kpaduwa.

According to the NSE, while Kpaduwa was appointed in March, Elumelu joined the Board in April.
Market operators said that investors saw the return of Elumelu as a good development that would impact positively on the fortunes of Transcorp, adding that he might be made the chairman of the company soon.
“From every indication, Elumelu is on his way to becoming the chairman of the Transcorp, a development market analysts and shareholders consider very timely given the history and performance of the company.

Elumelu was a founding director of Transcorp when he was the Chief Executive Officer of United Bank for Africa Plc but left following a policy by the Central Bank of Nigeria. Now that he has retired from the bank and has an investment firm that has bought a significant stake in Transcorp, his wealth of experience would go a long way in improving the fortunes of Transcorp,” a stockbroker said.
After buying into the company last March, Heirs Holding explained that Transcorp shareholders would benefit from its track record of value-creation, particularly smaller shareholders who subscribed to the original vision of the company as a means of mass participation in Nigeria's economic success.

“Heirs Holdings has structured its investment to ensure that all shareholders will continue to participate in the listed company and benefit from the considerable upside believed to be represented in Transcorp,” the company said.
The shares of Transcorp closed as the most active in the conglomerates sub-sector last week, accounting for 30.16 million shares valued at N26.668 million in 236 deals.

Why northern states can’t pay minimum wage, by Zamfara gov .

ZAMFARA State Governor Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar has ruled out the possibility of any of the 19 northern states implementing the new N18,000 minimum wage for workers with the current federal allocation to states.

Fielding questions from journalists at his home-town, Talata Mafara, Zamfara State at the weekend, Yari expressed concern over the total dependence of northern states on the statutory federal allocation.

According to him, the current internally-generated revenue by the northern states could not help in the implementation of the new minimum wage approved for workers in the country by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The governor revealed that for any northern state to implement the N18,000 minimum wage, it required an increase of almost 100 per cent of its total statutory monthly allocation from the Federal Government.

According to him, the 19 northern governors will soon meet with a view to reaching a general accord on the feasibility or otherwise of implementing the N18,000 new minimum wage for workers of their various states.

The governor maintained that his state last received N3.2 billion from the federation account with an additional sum of about N200 million as its internally-generated revenue, noting that a total sum of over N1.1 billion is currently spent monthly on workers’ salaries.

“It is very disturbing when you look at the level of our internally-generated revenue in the northern part of the country. The state that is leading in generating big money from the northern states is Kano, which often generates about N2 billion monthly while Lagos State is internally generating N23 billion”, Yari said.

He added: “We are not saying that we are not going to implement the new minimum wage for our workers, but we are going to sit with the leadership of the Labour union to reach a consensus. Very soon, the northern governors are going to meet to take a decision on minimum wage. However, we seriously need additional funds from the federation account to succeed in its implementation. I inherited over 28,000 workers in my state”.

Yari lamented the way the immediate past administration of the state left the government account with no single kobo. He said he inherited a debt of over N42 billion from banks and contractors.

According to the governor, the immediate past government of the state had awarded a total of 486 different projects worth N62.7 billion but only paid N16 billion.

He said: “The unfortunate thing is how we met an empty treasury and with a huge amount of millions of naira as over-withdrawn despite the N3.2 billion they received for May allocation. I learnt that they paid themselves all their entitlements for both governor, the deputy, commissioners and special advisers, council chairmen and their council members, among others”.

Seriously, pardon me to say but why do you want Nigeria to continue in such an uncivilized and immature way?

We need the progressive Nigerian from all corners of Nigeria to represent Nigeria, not some crude people who chomp at the bit ready to recieve what they think should be "dashed" to them.

Have you learned nothing by watching even other African countries around us with respectable governments and institutions?

You guys calling for civilization are all hypocrites. When it comes to the turn of NDIGBO, then everyone will remember merit, but when it is your turn,  we remember zoning and federal character, Nonsense. Let us scrap all zoning and federal character nonsense and start from the beggining then, that way all positions and offices are by merit and nobody will complain and feel cheated.

Your suggestion in the title is actually quite and uncivilised one.

Sorry but the topic is irrelevant as of now.

Moreover what Igbos need most are
Equality in number of states (very very important)
Completion of dredging of R. Niger and the new bridge
Completing the River Port project in Onitsha and the dry port in Aba
Curbing insecurity

We need all those things things you mentioned plus the political power that comes with it. Political power gives you the chance to make policies. Bills for all these things you mentioned came to Bankoles table but he shoved it aside because it was not in his interest. If an IGBO is occuying that position, it makes it very easy to push those bills and make them law, thats all i am saying .

Ezeuche, thanks for the post and thread. I will tell you to remove the "southeast" part and just put IGBO. It was the IGBOs both in the southeast and around the country including in places where they had massive population like kaduna, lagos, oyo, abuja, southwest states and other places that shifted the vote and made this happen. This yet confirms the fact that IGBOS have the highest population in Nigeria. Like somebody said here in the past, NDIGBO NEED A STANDING OVATION. Anyi zuru ka emee, !

That's just it. There are already a somewhat greater number of Igbos in America to begin with, but this gap that you're claiming, if it exists, can't be all that significant - and this is coming from somebody who actually lives here.

You say you are a "business man" with 2 (you edited it to 3, did you forget one?) degrees who's "been to" (whatever that means) "many" (however many that is) of these schools. But you're not really an academic so your assertion that Igbos are overwhelmingly doing better than any group in academic areas or even in "power professions" is questionable when you wouldn't even normally look up enough of these areas (engineering, medicine, law, science) on a regular basis or in great detail to see who's doing what and whether any of them are Nigerians. I'm also skeptical of whether you're even interacting with many Nigerians in college outside of Igbos. I'll chalk your conclusions up to you possibly being someone who only goes around searching lists for Igbo names. I would have thought that if you were to see how many non-Igbo Nigerians were also doing incredibly well academically in America that this would actually be a source of pride to you that black Africans, and particularly those from your region/country, are doing well in good environments despite claims of inherent African inferiority, but instead you're just asserting, based on your limited observations, that this trend in the U.S. is almost exclusively from one particular ethnic group, when to people actually here it seems to be occurring among multiple groups. Anyway, I'll agree to disagree.

This is my last post replying you because i only indulge in articulate conversations. Yes,  i have 3 degrees, a dual bachelors one of them in Engineering and an MBA from one of those ivy leagues, so i know exactly what i am talking about. I rejoice when i see all Nigerian representing because that is how it should be. But this topic was about NDIGBO,and thats it. I see Yo.rubas and others too in those schools and proud of all  of them, but their numbrs are nothing compared to IGBOS. I was in  academia because i have been a part time lecturer before i diversified my investments, so i have good command of this topic.  Your arguments stems from the fact that you cannot accept the obvious and if this is the case, then you have more personal issues than you think. This will be my last response to  you on this because i do not make flimsy arguments
