Politics / Nnamdi Kanu IPOB In Renewed War Of Words With Ralph Uwazuruike MASSOB by igwesylv: 10:06am On May 16, 2020

The war of words between the leaders of the two frontline secessionist groups, Nnamdi Kanu and Ralph Uwazuruike has been rekindled.
The Indigenous People of Biafra Leader Nnamdi Kanu has been described as Coward. The The Ralph Uwazuruike-led Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB challenged him to come back to Nigeria.]

It started when the IPOB leader blasted his MASSOB counterpart for allegedly taking the issue of Biafra to the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) in The Hague, Netherlands.
Kanu had described the move as belittling being that several Igbo groups had already taken Biafra’s matter to United Nations, UN, which was a far more recognized body.

Responding to this in a statement, the National Director of Information of MASSOB, Sunny Okoroafor, on Friday, blasted Kanu, saying that the IPOB leader was not qualified to speak about the Biafran struggle.

“Where was Nnamdi Kanu when Chief Ralph Uwazuruike started the struggle for Biafra? One thing is clear; Uwazuruike was the first man in this new struggle to hoist Biafran flag in the international arena,” the statement said.

The statement further reminded Kanu that Uwazuruike founded MASSOB, which he (Kanu) was a member and set out stages for the struggle for a Biafran state.
“If the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu is talking about the struggle for Biafra, he should first of all come back home and not to stay outside to make noise.

Politics / You Are A Hypocrite - APC Fires Wike Over Relaxation Of Lock Down For PDP Event by igwesylv: 2:33pm On May 15, 2020

The Rivers State Governor Barrister Nyesom Wike has been in a recent fire over relaxation of Lock Down for People Democratic party PDP event in the state.

APC  Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze has described the action of Nyesom Wike as hypocritical.

AUTHENTIC reported earlier that Governor Wike had relaxed the total lockdown in Obio-Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas and has directed the Lock Down continues on Sunday evening.

Governor Wike in a state broadcast said while on routine monitoring, he observed how difficult it has been for residents to access money from their banks to make purchases during the two-day window that was given.

He said the difficulties would prevent most residents of the two affected Local Government Areas from preparing and making adequate provisions for the upkeep of their families when the lockdown returns this Sunday, May 17.

But, Eze in a press statement claimed that Governor Wike’s action was to allow the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, inaugurate its State Executive Council and as well, to organise a thanksgiving service in this upcoming Sunday, but not to give any respite to the suffering masses as claimed by the governor.

Frowning at the governor’s alleged pretentious mien with which he conducted the fight against COVID-19, Eze also claimed that the alleged heinous, sinister and selfish act has once again exposed Governor Wike as one who does not know when to be a statesman and when to expose his passion for partisanship which has gotten to the peak of all unreasonableness.

“Governor Wike unlocked us, so he and his party can have their event. Imagine the malevolent tendencies. How else can one define insensitivity? Eze queried.

Eze condemned the organizers of PDP event for disobeying the Governor’s Executive Order on social distancing of not more than 50 people in a hall with a space of...

Politics / Dokpesi: We Were Given Malaria Drugs For COVID-19 by igwesylv: 1:41pm On May 15, 2020

High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, The founder of DAAR Communications, owners of African Independent Television (AIT) and RayPower FM has explanations from medical experts on what type of disease coronavirus really is.

There have been debates across the world over the similarities of the illness to malaria.

This has led to warnings against the use of a malaria drug Chloroquine by health officials and bodies.

On Thursday, the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) restated its warning about the medication.

Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, NAFDAC Director General, said: “Nobody should buy chloroquine and use. If you have COVID-19, go to a doctor. We have warned Nigerians, do not take chloroquine”.

But after he was discharged, Dokpesi, the founder of DAAR Communications, owners of African Independent Television (AIT) and RayPower FM, declared that he was confused.

He said: “I still have doubts in my mind and I need to be educated. What’s the difference between COVID-19 and malaria? Every drug we were given were malaria medications.

“A number of persons who tested positive were checked in reputable labs, hospitals in Abuja and were found to have malaria parasites in their blood streams. When did malaria become synonymous with COVID-19?”

AUTHENTIC reports that for now, the only authorized treatment for the pandemic is Remdesivir.

Although there is ease of Lock down in Rivers State which is to elapse on Sunday, the Governor Nyesom Wike has placed the State on a Total Lock Down.

Wike relaxed the total lockdown in Obio-Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas scheduled to take effect from tomorrow Thursday, May 14, 2020.

Location of the Lockdown is Port Harcourt and Obio Akpor Local Government Areas

Governor Wike in a state broadcast said while on routine monitoring, he observed how difficult it has been for residents to access money from their banks to make purchases during the Two-Day window that was given.

In consideration of the foregoing, the concerns of our people, and the need for residents to replenish their supplies, especially, the State Security Council has decided to impose a night-time curfew and review the effective date of the complete lockdown on Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt City Local Government Areas from the 14th of May 2020 to Sunday 17th May 2020 by 8.00 p.m.

“Consequently, there will be: a night-time curfew in Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas from 8.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. on Thursday 14th May 2020, Friday 15th May 2020, and Saturday 16th May 2020.

“While the total lockdown on Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas will immediately follow from 8.00 p.m. Sunday 17th May 2020 until further notice.

Here is Governor Nyesom Wike State Broadcast Speech

My Dear Good People of Rivers State,

As we all know, the restoration of the total lockdown order in Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas was to take effect from Thursday, May 14th 2020.

However, while on routine monitoring, I observed how difficult it has been for residents to access money from their banks to make purchases during the Two-Day window that was given.

This difficulty has, no doubt, prevented most residents of the two affected Local Government Areas from preparing and making adequate provisions for the upkeep of their families when the lockdown returns.

Time and time again, we have said that the lockdown is a necessary measure, universally applied, to mitigate community transmission of the covid-19 pandemic.

Our own situation is not and can’t be different. Covid-19 is not only here with us; it is increasing in number of infections as we recorded 16 new cases for today, the highest since the index case, which goes to confirm not only my personal apprehension for our State and the need to be d tough in our mitigation strategies.

And so, there is no room for politics in this matter. We must discharge our abiding duty to use the primary weapons at our disposal to combat this virus and contain its spread, lest we regret the consequences of our inactivity and indiscretions.

We understand the consequential difficulties, but what we can do in the circumstance is to appeal to the public to endure the attendant discomfort as inevitable sacrifice for the common good of all.

Suffice to mention that no deliberate harm is ever intended or targeted at anybody neither are we happy with the prevailing hardship on the people as a result of measures we have adopted to fight this deadly virus.

But, the overall interest, security and wellbeing of our people remain our primary motivation for what we have done and will continue to do to combat and protect our State from the Covid-19 scourge.

Consequently, there will be:

To make good their commitment, the Nigeria Senate on Thursday last week passed into law the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) for 2020 – 2023 to the tune of N10.727 trillion passed into law. Constitutionally, the MTEF is the basis with which annual budget is prepared by the Executive. It, therefore, means that today’s presentation of 2020 budget is in consonance with the laid down procedures of how the nation’s financial structure is laid.

Meanwhile, what was not clear, but very important before a budget is prepared was the level of implementation of the N8.9 trillion annual budget which was passed into law by the 8th Senate in May, 2019. Today’s presentation of the 2020 budget by President Muhammadu is coming four months into the implementation of the 2019 budget. As laudable as it may be, the level of implementation of the previous year which is sacrosanct continues to agitate the minds of some political analysts as well as financial experts.

An Abuja based financial consultant, Dr. Josiah Idakwoji, speaking on Tuesday expressed serious concern that, “There was no significant implementation of the 2019 budget despite its four months lifespan.” According to him, Parliamentarians ought to have insisted on the significant implementation of the budget through their oversight functions.

“As a matter of statutory responsibility, legislators play oversight role on the agencies of government which are a subdivision of the executive and what can they tell Nigerians? What is the percentage of implementation of 2019 budget before facing the 2020 budget Appropriation today? ”

Similarly, a PDP Senator who spoke on condition of anonymity before he entered the chambers said:

“I know we are operating a cooperative agenda with the executive. Be that as it may, I am optimistic, they would be a closedoor session before President Buhari’s arrival in which salient points like what you are saying will be discussed. That’s all I can say.”

Messrs Lawan and Gbajabiamila were, in June, elected Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively.

According to finance minister Zainab Ahmed, the federal government will propose to the National Assembly about N9.79 trillion as total expenditure in the 2020 budget.

The amount represents an increase of 9.75 per cent over N8.916 trillion budgeted for 2019.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday said the All Progressives Congress (APC) unwarranted invective on former President Goodluck Jonathan was misdirected as it best suits President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, which has “gone down as the most incompetent and most corrupt in the history of our nation.”

Politics / El-zakzaky And Wife Moved To Abuja by igwesylv: 11:36am On Aug 12, 2019
Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, Sheikh Ibrahim El-zakzaky has arrived Abuja.

He was moved from Kaduna with his wife Zeenat, where they had been in protective custody.

This is ahead of their trip to India for medical attention.

According to TVC News, their passports and other travel documents are now ready.

It was gathered that apart from security personnel who are to accompany the Sheikh, family members would also be on the trip.

The latest development is believed to have followed federal government’s intervention to douse tension over the Shi’a leader’s health.

It would be recalled that Kaduna State Government had released conditions that must be met before El-Zakzaky would be allowed to leave Nigeria.

Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, in a statement, said though the state government will appeal the ruling of the Kaduna High Court ruling allowing El-Zakzaky to travel, it will not seek a stay of execution because it believes that people should have access to treatment.

In reaction, legal luminary, Femi Falana criticised Kaduna government’s stringent conditions.

The lawyer to the IMN leader, in a statement, said: “I thought that the Kaduna State government had planned to appeal against the order of the Honourable Darius Khobo granting leave to the El-Zakzakys to travel to India for urgent medical treatment under the supervision of the government.

“I hope that the plan to pursue an appeal in the case has been shelved as the Court of Appeal has ruled that you cannot stay the execution of orders of this nature. That remains the position of the law as espoused in the case of Mowarin v Nigerian Army, which was decided under a military dictatorship in the country.

“The so-called agreement is totally alien to the penal code and the administration of criminal justice law of Kaduna State. Hence, the agreement is not brought under any substantive or adjectival law.

“My colleagues in the Ministry of Justice are not unaware of the position of the law that an agreement cannot vary or modify the order of a competent court. It is unfortunate that some highly placed public officers are so hell bent on abrogating the fundamental rights which have been fought for and won by Nigerians, even under the British colonial regime.
