Mynd44:HOW COUNTRIES BLOCK CONTENT by Electronic Frontier Foundation There are various methods used to block content online. Government actors can block or tamper with domain names, filter and block specific keywords, block a particular IP address, or urge online content providers to remove content or search results. Often, governments rely upon commercial software to do the job for them. Products readily available on the market for use in homes, schools, and libraries have been used in several countries. Though the export and sale of these tools is generally legal, it often raises questions of human rights and corporate social responsibility. Some countries, such as China, use a combination of the aforementioned techniques, by pervasively blocking keywords, foreign websites, and urging companies such as Google to remove certain content. Others, such as Morocco and Egypt, take a minimalist approach to content blocking, by filtering a certain selection of URLs. The level of transparency in content blocking also differs from country to country. Some offer block pages that explain to users that a site is blocked (as well as, sometimes, why it is blocked) and/or means of challenging a specific site block, while others re-direct the user to an error page; before the fall of the Ben Ali regime, for example, Tunisia famously redirected users to an HTTP 404 error page. abes:You probably are new to the internet, or you are part of the 99% that doesn't know how things work here. How do you think the DSS tracks people on the internet? Isn't it through softwares? Did they build it? If they didn't, do they get it for free? The BVN & NIN technology, was it built in Nigeria or did we get it for free? How do you think Israeli software companies make their money? Isn't it through payments from softwares they built? Get more knowledge hombre: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/12/8/nigerias-defence-agency-acquires-spy-equipment-says-report |
ojun50:Seun hasn't implemented the strategy to make Nairaland be more than a Nigerian thing. Nairaland has the platform to accommodate all English speaking African countries. This will mean restructuring Nairaland as we know it today to be something more African. Nigeria's economy will stop dictating Seun's revenue because he will be earning Rands, CFA, etc rather than sneaking Google ads at the bottom of the page If Seun can contact me sha, I will draw a blueprint for him |
Ekez:G for Gerrarahia |
Okoroawusa:Almost all of Twitter's revenue - about 85% of it - comes from advertising on its site. There are three main ways for a company or an individual to advertise on Twitter: by promoting a tweet that will appear in people's timelines, promoting a whole account, or promoting a trend. Nigerians just started giving Twitter money last year or so, and compared to other rich countries, Twitter's ad revenue from us is still negligible, unlike Facebook which we have been accustomed to. |
abes:Read the first paragraph in my first post. The technology to block Twitter doesn't belong to the Nigerian government. It's rented. And it is being paid for. Tu compris ? Let's say you create a software that can successfully block websites from countries, any country that wants to block a certain website will contact you to help them block it, and you will charge them per hour or per day, etc. So Nigeria is paying $250k per hour to the website blocker |
abes:NetBlocks is a global internet monitor working at the intersection of digital rights, cyber-security and internet governance. They've got the internet monitoring tools/software. It's like an online calculator. E.g. if you input 2 + 2 in an online calculator, answer = 4 It's the same with https://netblocks.org/cost/ |
MalcoImX:You don't understand that Twitter's major source of revenue is through adverts, and how much does Nigerians spend on Twitter ads compared to the amount we spend on Facebook? Twitter ad started just last year in Nigeria. Twitter's server will rest from Nigerians' tweets that isn't bringing in as much money as countries like South Africa, Kenya, and other countries outside Africa. |
The technology for blocking Twitter doesn't belong to Nigeria. She is only renting it and will be paying $250,000 per hour till it decides to unblock Twitter. Do you think it's worth the cost? I don't want to believe country that isn't credit worthy to be borrowed money could be penny-wise pound foolish.

I swear, if this report came from a sub-Saharan country or region, some miseducated mentally colonised minds will be typing nonsense like "Africa is backward", "Black man has black mentality" and some other rubbish their colonial masters inculcated into them through media & books that they can never unlearn. And they are oblivious to the fact that Africa can only move forward when it applies African solutions to African problems. Not something that worked for other society with different morals, upbringing, culture, and climate. |
AAbuja:I've forgotten where it is. I saw it on Twitter actually |
Can you swim here
|
Agbegbaorogboye:Yes and No. The Sudan of today was formerly Southern Egypt and they weren't as mixed race as their northerners. I think the modern Egyptian map & boundary was created last century. Asides this, there are sphinx & busts of black Pharaohs of Egypt |
Kábiíèsí or Kábiíòsí correctly translates in English as "The Unquestionable" However, breaking it down word by word in this context: Ká = Who will or Who would Bií = Ask (or question) him/her Èsìí/Osìí = Is non existent or Doesn't exist LOOSE TRANSLATION = Who will question him/her is non existent. PROPER TRANSLATION = The Unquestionable. This simply means no one can question the king's instructions or directive. |
Your post is an attempt to educate Nigerian Christians on what's real and what's not. But little did you know that most Nigerians don't like anything positively different (and factual like in your case). Nice try though. Some will soon arrive to start arguing like dimwits |
The Nation Newspaper: The Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission has cautioned the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) against criticising Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) for his efforts at resolving farmer-herder crisis in the state. |
Economics is more important than love in most relationships. She's earning already and won't be a financial burden on you. I'm also guessing your POS business isn't doing bad. My suggestion is for you to open a business branch in the state she's living, then open other branches as the business grows. Of course, since she will close by 4pm (I guess), the attendants running the POS shops will be reporting to her as "Oga Madam" You should only pay her visits this period. Then when you've got enough money to rent & furnish a little apartment for the both of you, you can move to her state. But if the POS business isn't doing well in her location, stay where you are. The goal is for you to try not to be at her mercy in terms of accommodation or finance because she is a woman....I won't say more than this |
Why will anyone sell a site including a shrine and the Deji of Akure allowed it in the first place? Was the place legally sold at all? An Akure landmark for that matter I blame the Deji for all this. |
iampeterben:Nigeria's judiciary isn't trusted nor is it respected. It's very valid when we say "Justice is for sale in Nigeria". Asides this, a lot of cases won't even get to court since the Police officers will be bribed to release the criminals by their godfather. You can fully understand this if you've ever lived in a rural area. |
HONESTFACT101:Nigeria isn't an American movie unless you are ignoring the reality. The criminals will likely get released by their godfather if reported & arrested. I support jungle justice in this particular case... unfortunately |
Written by Tosin Adeoti I just realized that the surface rover that China landed on Mars last week which made them the second country ever to do so is called Zhurong. That's the name of the Chinese god of war. Let Nigeria name anything after Ogun (the Yoruba god of iron) now, there will be placards everywhere. While in hindsight I largely support the before-before imperalism because it led to a more efficient use of natural resources and building of better infrastructure, and more importantly it was the only thing that led to the survival of minority groups in a place like Nigeria (many of our ancestors would not have existed save for the British) One of the demerits of it is that total imperalism erodes some of the good cultural values of a people especially if carried out by those of the dogged Abrahamic religions. The one-god system they preach ensures that nothing else competes. (While different, traditional British colonialism in reality went hand in hand with missionary work). What's interesting about the total indoctrination of the African mind is that the same proselytizing fundamentalist who goes about burning shrines in his village is the same person on a rare visit to Shoprite to purchase halloween customs for his kids. ![]() He will look with pity on Brazilians who visit Osun River but embraces the Western wedding as performed in Christian Churches even though it contains rituals from pagan traditions which preceded the church by centuries. Dear Seun Osewa, To step up engagement and meaningful interaction on this forum, I think there should be a game of Top 5 Nairalanders for each month. These Nairalanders may be selected through: 1. Number of profile visits 2. Number of comment Likes 3. Number of comment shared 4. Etc This is sort of like an award which boosts personal self image and will urge these top Nairalanders to be more active and engage sensibly. Also, there could be an end of the year award for different categories like: 1. Nairalander With Most Likes 2. Nairalander With Most Shared 3. Most Mentioned Nairalander 4. Front Page King/Queen (or Qing) ![]() 5. Etc. Kindly think this through. Regards |
CowbellY:Well, Britain left the E.U but other U.K countries like Ireland are still in the E.U. My bottom line is "smart" E.U countries, under the guise of donations & foreign aids enrich themselves |

Praxis758:Iranians are actually Persians. It's mostly Middle Easterners and people born before the 20th century that knows this. Before Islam, Iranians practice Zoroastrianism. Hence why Saddam Hussein once called them "Majoo"; English people call it "Magi" and the wise men that visited Jesus to present him gifts are known to be Magi because Zoroastrianism revolves around astrology. The Arabs & Persians have never been friends as far back in history that I can think of. And like you right said, Islam was what brought Arabians to prominence, because they are mostly nomadic herders who live in tents... |
