Where is LastPope?? Is he still celebrating the "demise" of BH? I hope he did not take the assurances of the Nigerian government literally and moved back to Borno!!! |
@OP, Are you still feeling sanguine about the destruction of BH? People can be just so clueless, the more they are ignorant. I believe, sadly for the poor innocent people that will be caught in the middle of it all, that the worst of BH is still yet to come. The Nigerian government has played it last card (full-scale, scorched-earth military assault) and has come woefully short of its primary objective - the destruction of BH. Now like the State of Israel, Nigeria is caught in a strategic dilemma - you win in the field and get no respite from an implacable enemy to whom casualties mean nothing. Even the US with all the resources at her disposal have conceded that destructing of al-Qaeda is well nigh impossible in the short and medium term. But in Nigeria, we have become so divorced from reality we have resorted to confusing dreams for results!!. Just a pathetic, failed state. |
mikeansy: dont know how we interprete laws in Nigeria, CBN autonomy can not include abuse of office and outright mis-appropriation of funds. It should be possible to probe him and sack him through the NASSTruth is if we have an even minimally functional legislature, much of that executive abuse will be checked. How does CBN autonomy manage to migrate from monetary policy to doling out huge sums of money like father christmas? We keep fighting over the presidency and governorship of states completely oblivious of the fact that in a modern constitutional state, the greatest power lies in the legislature. If only Nigerians could take time to ensure that they elect the right people (instead of ignorant freeloaders) as their representatives to the legislatures, a lot of changes will be wrought over night. But no, it is Jona this, Buhari that! Every people deserve the leadership they get, for real! |
mikeansy: Let me teach you law Mr LawyerSadly, that dude is quite representative of the quality of "lawyers" they churn out of Nigerian law school. The malaise runs all the way up to the supreme court. Imagine a decision that say an individual that did not contest an election won the election. Or a mindset that argues that executive immunity means the office holder is simply above the law without regard to whether he was acting in his official capacity or acting in good faith. The so-called lawyers are what destroyed Nigeria. Really tragic!! |
OPC.NAIRALAND:You really are dangerous my friend. You must sound like a lawyer to the layman with all that stuff above. I am almost certain you have no clue what you are talking about. But then, I would not be surprised if you have a license to practise law in Nigeria. Too many legal and constitutional illiterates in that body of learned men and women in Nigeria. A tragic shame! |
OPC.NAIRALAND:Is that OPC Constitution you just quoted or that of the Federal Republic of Nigeria? |
Well, that's a tough question. If you want to go by the clear letter and spirit of the constitution, that is patently unconsitutional. Actually, the very egregious practise of "state of origin" which is used by all the states is patently unconstitutional. The last time the Nigerian Consitution expressly allowed discrimination based on place of origin was in the 1963 Consitution. Based on that same reading of the Constitution though, it is unconstitutional for Peter Obi to be governor of Anambra State, since the Constitution only allows residence of a state to contest elections in that state and Peter Obi was ordinarily resident in Lagos State when he contested and won the governorship of Anambra State. Also, if you take a short trip to SARS at Ikeja or Awkuzu or anywhere else in the country, you will observe an even more egregious and tragic violation of a far more important constitutuional right of Nigerians - the right to life. My point is, it just makes no sense trying to argue anything based on constituional provisions or principles in Nigeria. We simply do not have any Constitution and sadly we are all illiterate in the area of constitutonal principles. You might be surprised to learn that some of the most illiterate are our lawyers including the members of the Supreme Court |
Crayola1: The only flawed individual in Nigeria is the Igbo person apparently. Its amazing to see people pour their hearts out for one group of people but can't give the same effort of enthusiasm to fixing Nigeria.Anyone that "feels sorry" for Igbo people need to have their heads examined. Anyone that feels that the Igbo have been "marginalized" in Nigeria does not know what they are talking about. All Nigeria has done is diminished us. It has crimped our wings and reduced us to the level of people that dont belong in our league. That, my friends, is the real grouse of the Igbo! |
kunlekunle: if they had adopted the system created after the amalgamtion, the chiefs would have been in a better position to caution the politicians. They would not be begging for funds or allowance. Those "Chiefs" are actually one function of the way the contractor class of so-called leaders have led us to conform to the Nigerian precept and ape ideas and institutions that have no place in our socio-political system. Our grandmothers and grandfathers chased away those "chiefs" in 1929 after the British tried to impose the strange intitution on them. It is a shame that under these ideas-free class of so-called leaders, we are once again saddled with such anachronism. |
Demdem: Newbie, are u ibo?"Igbo". |
bebe2: Lol, totally agree with u, I wud neva leave the uk to be illegal in another country.I had assume you would have "right to work" status in the US since you didnt ask about that in your original post. It would definitely not make sense to leave where you are now and come over here with everyone in your becuase it is going to be heavy lifting getting to regularize your stay. The one visa that could avail your husband would have been the Immigrant Investor visa, but the dollar requirement is too high (at least $500,000 invested). But again, there are over 12 million illegal immigrants in the US, and if you follow American politics then you can see how another amnesty program could be in place in the not too distant future. Whatever happens, be sure to weigh all the pros and cons with your husband |
careytommy: dont mind the daft idiot with her simple ways of rationalityWhy do you think she is daft? What is your sophisticated reasoning? |
bebe2: Tnks all,If you knew sewing, bone up on it. Get very good with all the Naija wears. If you can learn braiding, go for it. If you sabi make meatpie, or isiewu or any naija food, get your condiments ready. If you are the kind that would see opportunities even in a trash can and not wait on government handouts, the US is certainly for you. It is still a hustler's paradise! |
redsun: You are better off in the UK with your family. You will regret it if you do,unless your man is sought after medical doctor. You think your "advise" might be more helpful if you told her why you think she'd regret it? Maybe there is something in your own or someone you know experience that might give her more information to make an informed judgement. She is seriously looking for advise on a matter that is hugely important to her family. There is no need to trivialize it. |
