femmy2010:Femmy, its not always the case. |
This was too quick and easy for TV, so they decided to stage a seven hour marathon, race-til-you're-empty duel, with Jamie driving an SUV with A/C on and Adam driving an SUV with windows down. Though, once the safety inspector intervened, it was no longer a seven-hour marathon, it was a bit slower (45mph instead of 55mph), and a lot shorter (only 5 gallons each). Jamie's A/C car ran out of gas first -- Adam's windows down SUV ran for another 30 laps -- completely contradicting the computer mpg estimate. Computer estimate based on air flow into the engine, so it would appear that it is unable to properly model the difference between A/C and windows down."
AC on- windows up consume less fuel when the car in question exceeds 55mph/90kmh. By then, the engine produces enough Horsepower to bear the load of the AC on the engine/Alternator without hampering the fuel economy. Its always advisable to on the AC while on high speed on highway. The increasing air drag when the windows are down creates more load on the engine by the engine struggling to maintain the speed. When a vehicle's windows are down on hispeed, the sound of the engine increases, unlike when the AC is on & windows up. you can carryout the observation yourself. Go & stand by the side of a hiway and see for yourself. You can tell from an oncoming vehicle on hiway if its windows are up or down by the highsound or low sound of the engine. FLORIDACAR:FLORIDACAR Volvo 760 GLE '88-92 models had one of the most powerful ever produced V6 engine in the world so far. The engine happened to be PRV even-fire 2.8 litre short stroke engine. The engine was widely acknowledged as an industructible engine that can exceed 300,000 miles before engine rebuild, if properly cared for. If you know what short stroke engine means, then you will understand why its was regarded as a very powerful smooth running V6 engine ever produced. So, is Volvo engine durable? Yes. As long as you apply PREVENTATIVE MAINTANANCE. |
George. Why we have to depend on Imports? Hmm! When you & I hv left PAN, the only auto plantin Nigeria, and now buy imported brand new autos imported : Toyota, Honda, Kia,etc. So, both the brand new & used vehicles on Nigerian road are all imported. Does that answered your question? |
erico, yeah i know but relatively speaking you can't get same amount of performance from a 20yr old car as you would a 2yr old no matter how well maintained the 20yr old car is. as for importation not being a bad thing, i quit agree. but again it is not good as a country to be completely dependent on other nations for everything up to your chewing sticks.
George. There is something you need to understand. Well maintained Passenger's car can last more than 20 years and still pull fine with the original engine. A two year old car, if not properly cared for, might die before it reaches 5 years old or 50 thousand kilometers. Let me give you example. How many Nigerians know about running-in period for brand new cars? Trust me, 95% of new car owners dont even know what that means, not to think of adhering to it. If that instruction from the car makers is not followed, the life span of the engine has been reduced drastically. If the engine is meant to last for 10 years/300, 000 kilometers before rebuild, then it might not exceed 4 years/100, 000 km without showing sign of serious failure, warming up to strike when it feels is time to deal with the owner. Second point, how many Nigerian new car owners check their owners manual to know when Cambelt is due for replacement, which can kill the engine completely if broken or slipped? Most Nigerians are force to visit or call their auto mechanics when their cars strand them on road. For us, servicing of car is just to drain all fluids, refill, replace oil filter and replace spark plugs, if we have extra change to waste. Most new car owners here in Nigeria have this mentality that they have nothing to do with auto mechanics anymore , after all, "Its a BRAND NEW!" To my own understanding, most car manufacturers instruct that the cambelts must be replaced at 40 or 50k km. Most new car owners dont even bother to open their car bonnets, except when drainig & refilling fluids. What am I trying to say, a 20 year old well maintained car is much better to own, than a 2 year old carelesly poor handled car. Ikenna. |
@ Siena. Not all RWD lose traction or slip on the propelling wheels. Peugeot 505 GTI & V6 (Non Teves MK II ABS) all have LSD (Limited Slip Differential). Thier differentials takes care of the 2WD slips problem. RWD autos will always have greater advantages over FWD autos, especially, if you are considering buying a high performance auto (V6 or V8). RWD ensures front-rear even weight distribution while on highspeed. Such lacks in FWD autos. Some RWD autos have drive shafts with CV Joints at both ends. But their CV Joints are trouble free, unlike FWD that are prone to frequent failures due to pressures on it while turning the steering and accelerating at the same time. Some would say RWD autos consume more fuel. Unfortunately, the difference in the consumption btw FWD & RWD is insignificant. AWD can be handy atimes in Nigeria, because of the nature of roads in our villages. But 2WD RWD Peugeot 505 V6 5speed auto trans takes care of that for me. Choose wisely while purchasing. Buy what you need. Dont follow Bangwagon Propaganda " EVERYBODY DOES IT" Ikenna. |
Am interested. How much and where is your location? Ikenna. |
cleakoms:Thank you Very much Cleakoms. God will Bless you . Its people like you, realists, that I like dealing with. And to you George D & Sucre05,. You guys should stop been heartless. Just because you can afford to buy new car or 15 yr old car does not mean every Nigerian can. You made it sound like owing auto is meant for lucky fat earners like you people. Just pray that God will not take away that wealth He gave you guys for been ungrateful to him and seeing others as failures. Ikenna. |
Faulty O2 sensor causes rich fuel economy/high fuel consumption. As long as the engine does not miisfire or hesitate while accelerating, replace it. Ikenna. |
chris2010:Chris, there is no way O2 sensor can cost 55k. It might not even be upto 20k. Make enquiries. Ikenna. |
please am urgently looking for Peugeot 505 V6 manual transmission to buy, in case you have one. |
Please the car must have good working A/C and Power steering. Ikenna. |
Sunny, even if its Toyota Camry 2010, I will still stick to the Peugeot 505 V6 manual trans am looking for. Ikenna. |
Please, am urgently looking for Peugeot 505 V6 manual transmission to buy. If any one have, tell me the price and post some pictures of the car to prove its V6 manual transmission. Am waiting anxiously. Ikenna. |
The Intake fuel pump is located right inside the fuel tank. Every vehicle that is powered by fuel injected engine has 2 electronic fuel pumps, Intank and main external fuel pumps. Ask your mechanic, he will confirm this. Other things aside fuel pump can make a car to stall. Faulty Oxygen sensor can foul your spark plugs due to rich fuel-air mixture it will cause, which could as well damage your car catalytic converter, if it has one. If your spark plugs are fouled, the engine will misfire, hesitate & stall. Clogged Injectors can make the engine to stall when lean fuel are supplied via intake manifold into the combustion chambers. Removing & cleaning the Injectors off the engine will fix the problem. No need of replacing/changing the Injectors. Some of the fuel additives(injector cleaners) can clog your injectors. Clean them off the engine, best method. Ikenna. |
Teach my girlfriend or my wife how to drive with my car? Not on this earth. Taught some women how to drive in my school days with their vehicles, & it was hell. Though they werent mine but its better never to be experienced, not to think of my baby, my car. Again, not on this earth. Ikenna. |
My dream car is Peugeut 505 V6 5 Speed manual transmission, with 2.8 liters even-fire PRV engine. THE KING OF THE LIONS!

Hub bearing and Drum brakes are the likely culprits in this type of problem. |
You need to RE-surface the disc (or regrind) as the mechanic told you. And install brand new brake pads. Disc resurfacing was supposed to be done everytime you change your brake. And don't cut corners in buying good pads either. Good luck.
"Disc resurfacing was supposed to be done everytime you change your brake" Hmm! Thats very strange to hear. Capsogiga, before you do anything, is your rear brake system disc or drum? Ikenna. |
Check the power steering pressure hose for leakage. Its always the culprit. Have someone start the car and turn the steering while you are at the engine bay. You will noticed drops of fluid from the hose. But if no leakage there, check the steering rack & ram, it wouldnt pass these 3 components of the power steering. The power steering pump hardly leaks fluid. Like i earlier noted, the power steering pressure hose is likely the cause of the problem you are encountering. It shouldnt cost much to fix, at N3,500. should fix it for you. Goodluck. Ikenna. |
Start with your oxygen sensor. Faulty oxygen sensor causes rich fuel/air mixture in the combustion chamber, there causing rich fuel economy. Does your car misfires? If it does, have you cleaned the injectors and checked the high tension plug cables? If you have done that & the problem have not gone, you will have to do valve job on that car. Ikenna. |
orgasm:When a CD player, be it a Hi-fi or car CD player, wouldnt read or load a CD it used to play, it could be caused by other things other than lense. When the motor that turns the CD or the motor that moves the lense, no longer turns the CD or moves the lense at required speed, the CD wont play, even if you replace/change the lense. It might work for a while when you change the lense, but will eventually kill the lense soon. If you can get the complete mechanism, it will save you a lot of wahala. But you can still try changing the lense first, incase lense is the only problem. What normally kill lense and the motors are all those pirated low quality CDs in our markets. The lense and motors are stressed trying to read them cos of their inferior quality. In the process, it shortens their life span quicker. Thats why the CD & DVD players vibrate while playing them, if you are observant. If you can afford CD changer, it will save you from having this type of issue again with your car CD player.cos, it will be easier & less stressful for you to replace the changer than your player. About your fuel pump, are you sure the fault is from the fuel pump? So mamy things can make a car to stall. Even if its fuel pump problem, which fuel pump did you change? Is it the In-tank fuel pump or the main fuel pump? Because if the intank pump dies, your car will start suffering from fuel starvation,ie, your fuel will cut off once it reaches half tank. Not only that, it will make your external fuel pump to overwork, thereby killing it sooner than you think. Ikenna. |
This should be an auto mechanic work. Whatever, but the rewire or mechanic should first check the returning of your accelerator cable & throttle switch at the engine bay, before even thinking of checking the car A/C compressor or electricals. Dont let them mess up the car electricals, for this minor problem. Ikenna. |
@elvis V6 autos are cheaper in Nigeria only because most of our auto mechanics are clowns. Instead of updating themselves with the modern diagnosis of auto mechanical know-how, they had no option than to discourage people for buying such autos so as not to expose their incompetency to the populace. They have succeeded in confusing a lot of people, stoping them from buying V6 autos, thereby decreasing the demand for them. I believe you know the Law of demand & supply. |
@jbloggs Not only that I have driven one before, I just reccently bought one, Peugeot 505 2.8 V6 5 speed manual transmission. There a lot of things you must consider if are looking for a long distance Vehicle. V6 unit is one of them. V6 engine has more displacement/cubic capacity that allows the engine to breath well while on high speed, on long distance journey, with reasonable fuel economy. If you want your car to have AC and you intend to use it frequently, the best car for that purpose is a car powered by V6 motor. V6 unit has higher Horse power, enough to carry the load of the AC compressor without it hampering the fuel economy, especially while on speed on highway, unlike the I4 cylinder engine that has to labour more, at the expense of good fuel economy in other to maintain the speed. Remember, car A/C takes more than 11 horsepower to function. In fact, if you really have idea how engine works, especially what takes place in engine combustion chamber, you wont need anyone to explain to you that the bigger the CC/displacement, the higher the performance, good breathing and durability of the engine. But if you looking for a city car, you dont intend to use the car for frequent travelling purpose, Inline 4 cylinder engine would be ok for you in terms of good fuel economy. V6 engine could be more durable than I4, if properly cared for. V6 units are designed to go beyond 300,000 miles without rebiuld and still pull fine. PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE is the watch word, if you dont want to visit mechanic often. Ikenna. |
Its so unfortunate and shameful the way and manner our ladies are becoming fake. God! I hate that with passion. Why on earth would you consider an African, who happens not to flow well in another tribe's language inferior? Wonders shall never happen. Anyway, the disease most of our ladies suffer from is MENTAL COLONISATION. What a disgrace to your root. Why not question God why you were brought into this world by a Yourba, Igbo, Hausa, Ijaw, Ghanian, etc. Most of you Ladies cant even make a straight simple sentence in their Tribal Language, yet you are not ashamed of your self for been a failure to your root, people that made you to exist. Is English Language what will make your husband to be faithfull to you for the rest of your two lives together? Will English make him a loving husband, who adores you more than his own mother that gave him breath through God? None of you will understand all these until you get married, then you will know what it takes for two individual to live together and live happily ever after or live in regrets for the rest of their lives because of useless decisions they made in their lives just so to impress others. You live your live for others, just to impress them , you lose the most precious thing God has design for you to have, a loving partner, which we all desire. I might not know how to speak english fluently today, but tomorrow, I could be the President of the country, representing the whole country in the International Arena. I dont blame guys that use some ladies and drop them like rags because they deserve to learn through the hard way. Ikenna. |
Check your throttle cable, its not returning properely. Ikenna. |
If you want a long lasting/durable high performance long distance auto, with reasonable good fuel economy, go for V6 engine powered auto. Ikenna. |
Well, thats what it takes to buy auto trans car, very unreliable. Good luck with your search for auto tranny experts. Ikenna. |
obojo, i think there's no need wasting your breath on those who insist on sticking with the past. manual drives are a fading technology and with time there would be none around for anyone to bother with. its just like people holding on to their black and white tvs where lcd and leds are now the norm.
@George,Have you watched the Advert Video of the just released Peugeot 508, launched two months ago? If you havent, please try do. Both cars used, 508 Sedan & Wagon, in the advert were all Manual transmissions. So, I wonda where you got your info that Manual trans is going into extinction. |
kabukabu50:Well, bros, you are left with no other option than to go for Japanese autos, since they sell well over there. But be mindfull of Honda with auto transmissions, there gearbox wahala is not only peculiar to Nigerian users, its everywhere. If it must be Honda, let it be Manual transmission o!,cos you will have no one to complain to when their auto wahala starts. It can be very annoying and emberrassing. ![]() I can understand why Lagosians prefer to drive auto trans because of the terrible Traffic/hold-up in that Insane environment, where everyone is always in a hurry. It only baffles me when some choose auto over manual because they believe its more luxury & a technological advancement. Technological advancement my foot! Ikenna |
kabukabu50:Is not just about power alone. Reliability, durability, parts availability, good road handling and friendly, thats whats matters when you are choosing a long distance vehicle that will give you more than 10 years trouble-free service. I will not have rest of mind if am travling with Mustang 400Hp from maidugri to Awka, in the East, knowing fully well that I will be terribly stranded, if common fan belt breaks on the highway, because I know I can only find it in Lagos or Abuja. Then, how do you expect me to toll the vehicle, if it happens in Lokoja and to where? Peugeot 505 V6 is less electrical, and can be easily diagnossed, even by the owner. But tell me, Who on our Nigeria highways(auto-mechanics) can diagnoss electricals on such car you posted the the picture above? Common ECU's(so called brainbox by Nigerian), our auto-mechs dont even know how to to read the error codes on them. Instead they will keep beating about the bush until the car is completly grounded. And do you expect them to fix that kind of auto above, definitely full with electricals and controlled by so many Electronic Control Units (ECU) on highways? 505 V6 (French Car) and German autos are very reliable units that can give you a lot of confidence and piece of mind when using them as daily drivers and plying them 24/7 on our highways. |
kabukabu50:Have you ever driven PRV engine powered auto in your life? I guess you have never done that because of your post. Fortunaly, am not a Front-Wheel-Drive fan. Those of us that drive Rear Wheel Drive European V6 autos, know the treasure we have others dont. |
