I see your problem and yea tht is kinda frustrating if the guy has poor english, I met this guy and he talks mostly spanish and does talk english and its pretty good, were both young and like he gets embarrased tlking to teachers cuz he says they make him feel stupid like "do you understand?" and like me and him go to music school together and fell in love, when I first met him he's like your the only person where I can tlk english and like I hve no problems talking 2 cuz im very comfortable with you, and like looking @ the sittuation the girls in, it wouldn't work out if you aren't able to communicate with him

I just remembered this guy I met way back,
He had everything a young woman could ever wish for.
But one night he called me, while we were talking I had to rush off to go do something so I asked him to hold on, on getting back
the next question this olodo would ask me is "Where did you went"? I was like WTF, shocked shocked shocked shocked I deleted his number sharp sharp.
If you can withstand a man that refers to you as a"HE" Then fine manage him like that.

Well,if the guy's english was gon' be such a major clog, why was his proposal accepted in the first place? ,cuz he definitely didn't woo the girl via semophore, though,i'd still say if a girl wants out cuz of that, she should try enrolling the guy in a specialised language class,or better still, she should teach him.i.e if she isn't worse. It'd be dope to dump a good guy cuz of his inability to speak phonetics through his nose. cool

I've met guys in the UK who dropped out of high schools in Naija, and who cannot accurately construct sentences in English. A number of them married British gals, mostly to regularise their illegal entry into the UK. How they communicate only God knows. Just a thought sha!

I have a friend who is well educated, speaks well and holds a top position in a huge conglomerate, her husband on the other hand, though a grduate from a very wealthy home can shell for africa, e can fit to ta iban anyhow, but u knw, they are one of the happiest couples I've ever seen, he treats her like a princess and she loves him die! We used to make fun of her in uni, when they were still dating, now people envy their marriage! At the end of the day, it makes me wonder, does not being able to speak english matter afterall?

If a girl's quite polished, but her boyfriend, whom she professes to love has poor spoken / written English, then she should educate him. If she loves him that much, and he loves her.

Nigerians, with English as a common language.

Does it matter? English IS the official language.

@OP: LOL, this is not an issue for me. I was once with a guy who had a very thick Honduran accent and his English wasn't so great but we made it work.

Its so unfortunate and shameful the way and manner our ladies are becoming fake. God! I hate that with passion. Why on earth would you consider an African, who happens not to flow well in another tribe's language inferior? Wonders shall never happen. Anyway, the disease most of our ladies suffer from is MENTAL COLONISATION. What a disgrace to your root. Why not question God why you were brought into this world by a Yourba, Igbo, Hausa, Ijaw, Ghanian, etc. Most of you Ladies cant even make a straight simple sentence in their Tribal Language, yet you are not ashamed of your self for been a failure to your root, people that made you to exist.

Is English Language what will make your husband to be faithfull to you for the rest of your two lives together? Will English make him a loving husband, who adores you more than his own mother that gave him breath through God? None of you will understand all these until you get married, then you will know what it takes for two individual to live together and live happily ever after or live in regrets for the rest of their lives because of useless decisions they made in their lives just so to impress others. You live your live for others, just to impress them , you lose the most precious thing God has design for you to have, a loving partner, which we all desire.

I might not know how to speak english fluently today, but tomorrow, I could be the President of the country, representing the whole country in the International Arena. I dont blame guys that use some ladies and drop them like rags because they deserve to learn through the hard way.

Ikenna.

Well my dude is from French Cameroon and he came to America about 5 years ago lol, he speaks good English but his accent is so thick, I think it's cute. Sometimes I piss him off just to hear it. FOR EXAMPLE: when i accuse him of something random, he'd say what sounds like "I am innosunt, so wut de f.ck yuh talka bout?" LOL. then I'd burst out laughing and he'd laugh because he'd then realize I just wanted to laugh and that would be the end of the "argument".

it's true that language proficiency isn't a sign of a faithful husband, still it is important in a relationship. especially if it means a lot to one partner.

we might not be english, but english is our official national language. for many of us, it's also our first (and sometimes, only) language.

it's not just about impressing others, you need to be able to communicate comfortably with whoever you're dating.
