We are not disrespecting Modric, we are also not undermining how good he was or wasn't. He has won 3 or 4 UCLs and he was the best player at the last World Cup, but considering what Xavi and Iniesta did at their prime, and how dominant they were in world football, Xavi and Iniesta are better than him. We are talking of players who from 2008 till 2012 were easily the best in the world if not for a certain magician from Argentina.
Look at your Real Madrid, Cannavaro has won Ballon D'or but can you say that from 2007 till now that Cannavaro has done more for Real Madrid than Sergio Ramos? Impossible. There are players who are better than some yet didn't win Ballon d'or, as good as Lampard, Henry, Pirlo were, they didn't win it but Henry is better than Owen who won it, Lampard at a point was better than Kaka who won it(at a point o), for Pirlo well I don't need to say much

After investigating the lineups and heat maps as well as reviewing archival footage. My judgement is that this is the most accurate assessment of the situation.

We play a double pivot of 4-2-3-1 which makes determining who is DM very difficult.

Matic and anybody = Matic is DM and the other person is CM

Pogba and anybody = Pogba is CM and the other person is DM

Fred and McTominay = Pure double pivot essentially with Fred covering the left and McTominay covering the right. However in more than half of the games together heat map shows Fred more active in slightly more defensive positions while McTominay more active in slightly more offensive positions.
In many of the games it is just too difficult to tell. In double pivot you usually have 2 CDMs and not the obvious division of labour you might see in a 4-3-3 with DM, CM, AM.

This is why the same whoscored that said McTominay played DM 19 times and CM 3 times also says Fred played DM 21 and CM 6 times, and Pogba played DM 8 times and 2 sub appearances with 0 appearance as CM.
Essentially saying all of them played mainly DM this season and CM very few times.

This is astute, for Man utd, I think the reason Fred is more active in defensive positions is to build up play not necessarily that he has a better defensive contribution than McTominay, look at the France side that won the World Cup, Pogba was often times deeper than Kante and Matuidi because he was a better passer than them though they are better defensively than him. Look at Pirlo for Italy and Juventus, Pirlo was deeper than his fellow central midfielders, not cos he is a better DM but cos of his passing range and ability to boss the midfield. So I think that's what's applicable to Fred and McTominay, Fred is the better passer but McTominay for me is the better tackler.

Exactly, even Pep's Barcelona, Xavi CM always had more passes than Busquets the DM. Not all DMs are passers. Kante and Matic under Conte, Matic played deeper than Kante but Kante had more interceptions and general defensive stats, so it depends on the system.

A DM will have more passes than the CM in a team that builds from the back. He receives the ball from the defenders and distributes the ball. So he is expected to make more passes.

Not all DMs have more passes than CMs, some CMs drop deep to pick the ball. If Pogba drops deep to pick the ball and orchestrate play, it doesn't mean Pogba is playing DM. In Liverpool, Fabinho is the DM but you often see Henderson dropping deep to pick the ball but Wijnaldum rarely drops deep to pick the ball and both of them are CMs...

I think Xavi was more tactically intelligent than Iniesta, Iniesta's dribbling and eye for a keen pass were legendary, but you need to watch videos of Xavi, not just his matches in a fleeting way, Xavi doesn't do things on the field you shout wow, but the way he controls the field, the pace of the game it allowed people like Iniesta and Messi thrive.
Look at Man city's 100 point side, the better dribbler and creator was De Bruyne but Silva controlled the midfield, those small small things that you may not see but are very important to when and how Xe Bruyne receives the ball for him to feed the forwards, that's where I think Xavi excels above Iniesta.
Another team you can look at is the treble winning Madrid side, the most creative player and better dribbler is Modric but Kroos was the controller of the match, those 95% passing accuracy isn't a joke, he may not dribble or wow us but he controls the match and that helps the team, more than the magical fellow...

So essentially, I'd take Xavi over Iniesta, man was awesome. I just pray he coaches us someday and his time is as successful as a coach as he was a player

Great way to put it bro. This was a discussion I had with several of my friends when the Pocophone F1 launched. After MKBHD's review, he said that it has a flagship processor, but it was a midrange device. Device with such designation were first made by OnePlus and they called them "Flagship Killers".

These days however, OEMs make slight variations to justify a $200 price hike from the vanilla models. Usually, a better camera system, a beefier battery, slightly larger and higher screen resolution, and maybe a few lifestyle features like a wood frame or ceramic.

Despite these changes been subtle sometimes, it doesn't make the vanilla device a better or "on par" with the flagship.

And I agree with you, the problem emanates from OEMs, now in Xiaomi for instance we have flagship, MI 10 pro then we have gaming phone Black Shark 3 or so... In gaming tests due to some technical improvements, the black shark will definitely triumph over the Mi 10pro but these black sharks have notorious poor cameras compared to the Mi 10 pro, also the Mi 10pro will have better design and form factor than the black shark though they may have flagship processor or flagship refresh rate and such. So for me, for a phone to be flagship using that work stricto sensu, the phone has to be the best for that period of time. And from what OEMs are showing they only make on "best phone" per time. If Mi Mix 4 is launched it becomes the new flagship for Xiaomi and when Note 10 is launched, the note 10 with the best features becomes the new flagship.

Personally, from what I've read. There's a Flagship range or grade of the best phones that an OEM produces, but there can only be one Flagship at a time or one flagship for a product range or line depending on the OEM

Just like phone OEMs, makers of SoCs also have their 'best'. The SD 865 is currently the Snapdragon flagship processor. Its presence in a phone isn't what makes the phone flagship. It's more of that device's rank amongst other devices by the same OEM.

Yes, Mi 10 pro is currently Xiaomi's flagship. It has the highest overall quality/value in any Xiaomi phone.

That's what I am driving at, if we are to say that all the S20s are flagships, we may have a problem. The reason is that, though all the phones have the same sd865 processor similarities start coming in, camera, display resolution, and such variations. I think the problem isn't with how we use English but the manufacturers of phones, and their attempts to make as much sales as possible from as many offerings as possible

Actually from what you have said, there is a lot of sense to it. Look at Xiaomi's offerings for the year, MI 10 and Mi 10 pro are not the same. One is obviously better than the other though both use "flagship processors" but everything isn't flagship in them, for one thing according to techtablets Mi 10 pro has a better screen, faster charging, better camera offerings and a few other features that distinguish it from the vanilla Mi 10. The first thing they share in common to support the flagship description according to madam Fibonacci is the processor, aside that we can't say Mi 10 is the flagship na?
Also consider that the same flagship processor is in K30pro but the K30pro doesn't have some features that the Mi 10 has which also lacks some features that the Mi 10 pro has. In essence, following the strict definition of flagship, the Xiaomi flagship is the Mi 10pro cos it has top of the line tech without any compromises, unlike the Mi 10 and the K30pro.
So I believe it all boils down to one question, what needs to exist for a phone or phones to be called flagship? If only one phone has it and others from the same OEM don't, that means only one phone is the flagship, not all of the phones launched by that OEM
