odilibe: southern africa are limited to few satellites at the C-band,most of the european/middle east satellites are not visible as fringe reception on that region, i believe the dstv will be making huge profit from this region i assume that may be the more reason why south africa wanted to launch there own satellite intelsat new-dawn which has sub-sahara africa/africa C -band coverage. All though the satellite failed. hence @ilish you are within the footprint of nss12ku @57east and arabsat 5a @30.5west, whereras wellydra is out of the footprint, probably he can't track those satellite with the stated dish size, may be he will require more than the stated dish size,i assume a 1.8meter pan dish will track nss12 ku, east africa beam since zimbabwe is close to the footprint, you can use this sites to check footprint and minimum required dish size for all satellites,(www.satbeams.com/footprint?position=331). Bro,the geographical location for Wellydra and me is just the same.We lie within the same beam range. |

@Wellydra,for NSS12 ku you use a 90cm dish and for Arabsat5a cband,a 1.8m dish is to be used. For your own info, these are the easiest satellites trackable. |

Lunsat: Hi all, this is my first post. I have three questions for Zambia based FTA anthusiasts:
Badr 6, 26E Cband, Lyngsat shows a beam footprint officially ending in Nakonde, meaning fridge could be recievable in Lusaka. Any success with with this one on any size dish?
Intelsat 7/10, 68E C band, are you recieving ZNBC and ZBC? I dont seem to. Makes me wonder if they are not on southern africa beam.
Intelsat 10-02, 1w C band, I am getting all channels listed by lyngstat for Africa including BBC Arabic, but BBC english doesnt pop out during blind scan. I had a similar problem with Muvi TV channels on Arabsat 5a Cband but direct scanning of the TP coxed them out but this didnt work with BBC. Any help?
Thanks. Bro,the Badr signal can be recieved using a 3m solid pan dish here in Kitwe. The secret lies in patience and perseverence. The fta spirit of never give up is our motto |

ugasat: @ Ilish What was your experience with the 109p software for SRT 4930 as compared to 115p? Are there other features that you miss besides the better audio? I am seriously thinking of downgrading (upgrading?) my software to 108p from Strong Technologies if there is no better alternative. Bro 109p still remains the best.I have used 115p for a week now but nothiog good to talk about.Am just waiting for another version so as I upgrade. |

@Pidzo,most of these empty satellite have outlived their usefulness. They might have reached the end of their lifespan eg Intel 4 (which malfunctioned and fell to earth) and Intel 7/10 whose lifespan has only 2 more yrs to go and such Intel 20 will rollout to replace it.Other reasons why other satellites are under-utilized are due to uplink facility location, costs of tp,footprint (beam) and technical backups. |

odilibe: But it has allready been achieved .The only difference in this case is that the lnb is line up horizontal on a straight line, this is a method of dish installation in the uk to pick 28.2east ,23.5east,19.2east,16east and 13east cos most european satellites has strong transponders example astra @28.2east, of-course most people on this forum has upto 2 to 4 lnbs attached on their prime focus dish horizonally etc. I know that bro, infact am able to get w7,intel 12, Intel 802 on the same 90cm dish. |

sholatech: @Pidzo @Ilish, The new software for SRT 4930HD is great. Thanks!with the upgrade, It is now DIVX enabled so I just packed some DIVX films on my usb drive, connected it to the 4930HD and pressed F1 on the remote and can then play the DIVX films!I'm sure there are other changes too!I will also like to know how I can store these movies on the decoder so I won't have to be using the usb stick!I have more than 100 divx films! The DIVX function has always been there.I am just studying the whole software for now. Will make my comments later. ugasat: @ illish @ pidzo According to a member of RDI forum the former software for SRT 4930 i.e. 112 of 14-4-2011 had some problems and was affecting the receiver in the following way: ** It can now record only 2 channels simultaneously instead of the original 3. ** There is a bug that seems to limit timer recordings to less than 10 minutes. ** The preview window while checking recordings is black blank and only plays if you press OK. ** Sometimes the stb freezes when you play a media file (F1 button). ** The audio is very low compared to SRT 4669 and 4910 I have noted that you have upgraded your SRT 4930 with the latest software namely 115p dated 25-5-2011. Kindly please find out if the above problems have been eliminated. Stopping a recording is what annoys me most because the receiver freezes completely. Also you can not preview your recordings in the small preview window on top right hand corner. You are right. The previous version have been failures.I have discovere that even the 115p version still has a blank window for recorded data and only plays when you press the OK button. As for Audio, it still falls far short of what 109p could do.A studying it as well |
