Thebadpolitican:
It is called omo noba

Simple meaning it means king

Deeper meanimg

It means omo noba ( the child that shines for the edo people) that is the actual title not just oba
Lol

Omonoba is a corruption of the Yoruba words 'Omo Oba' Prince

The first Oba Of Benin was a Prince from Ife

Omo is a Yoruba word, meaning child, Benins adopted it.

👌

How does the child that shines for the Edo people translates to KING

🤷

Thebadpolitican:
Oba means king
In Yoruba not In Benin

O - means who

Ba - means preside or rules/reigns

O + ba = Who presides/rules/reigns

Explain that in Benin Morphology

Not necessarily true

For example

I can say "

That's your mom over there ọkwa ya?

But I always prefer saying

That's your mom over there abi?

Abi is Yoruba word and ọkwa ya is igbo word for same thing 'right'

It's just convinience

I have seen Yorubas saying
Biko alot that doesn't mean they don't have a word for 'please'
It's just convnience.

Again I might be wrong one thing I'm sure tho is oduduwa can not fall from the sky who knows Binis might be right saying he's Thier son
. Binis might be wrong too sha who knows
Yeah

That's why I said 'usually'

Some words are just used because of its popular usage and acceptability

But when u borrow a thing from a language, u often borrow the name with it, for example Pressing iron, in Yoruba it is still "Iron"

Table is still Table or "Tabili'

Sugar is sugar

Block is block

Pure water is usually pure water

There is also agglutination (Linguistics) etc
Politics › Re: Meet Prince Ekaladerhan Of Benin, Popularly Known As Oduduwa by illicit(m):
Neckpresser101:
If you're a linguist you'd know that

Words can be borrowed from people you've made contact with and doesn't necessarily means they don't have a word for it . They just prefer to use the borrowed word

I had a conversation about this topic with my friend yesterday . He's actually a linguist , He said it's absolutely possible to replace a local word by a borrowed word from another neighbouring language. According to him it's called Lexical replacement or loan word replacement.
It happens alot especially with society you've come in contact with and it's the basis of English language . English is 80+% loanwords! So what's the fuss about.
Ok now

When u loan a word from a language to call something

It usually means that that same thing was not present in your environment before

It's usually that you borrowed that thing and the name it's called

If you have that thing before, you will have a name for it

To the best of my knowledge, the benins used to have Ogiso, which is a duke

When Yoruba introduced Kingship to them, the name came with it naturally

✌️

Neckpresser101:
You realise bini and other languages of southern Nigeria are from the Niger-Congo language family

And yes there are converging linguistic links here and there

For example

Oba in ìgbo means Barn for yams and other produces

Obà still means that plant used in making calabash

So don't brag about origin of word with people you're in same language family with

It ight mean something in their language you never can tell

If na lie ask any Igbo person wetin Olaniyi means in Igbo grin you'll be shocked
You are diverging

Does Oba mean anything in Benin Language

It's either yes or no

Talking about Igbo Language is very irrelevant here

Because Oba in Igbo doesn't mean what it means to the Benins or what it means in Yoruba, so it's out of point 👌

In Yoruba, O - ba means King, he who presides...

In Benin, explain how oba means King, simple

I am a Linguist

Shameless Yoruba man claiming Igbo ... this is definition of low self esteem. Spit
... most important thing is that the whole world is aware Lagos was founded by the Great Binis and the word Oba belong to the great Bini people not Yoruba, it was borrowed by the Yoruba.
So what does oba mean in Benin Morphology

Explain pls

Yes o he was at least my full height or slightly taller at his full stretch.

For me with these large dogs any attempt to bite me is a major offence that will require immediate punishment.. So immediately he did the lunge i grabbed my nearby pickaxe and removed the iron head leaving the wooden handle..With the wood i gave him a good brain resetting whacks on the head.. however he lunged again and things got a bit scary because as i moved back having underestimated the length of his chain, i lost footing but my female Trixie at that moment also attacked him so he was well punished

At this point i felt maybe i had bitten off more than i could chew..So i called his owner and told them this dog is too wild o e be like say u go come and take him back.

Of course no response..he had been passed on to me irrevocably it seems.

So the first few days it was like i was feeding a wild animal because he would be growling and snarling at you that are bringing food for him. So that you have to drop the food bowl on the floor and then use a stick to push to him whereupon his long arm with very strong claws would hook the plate.

Obviously this can't be established.. i have already tried shouting him down to be quiet..and showing him my stout stick ..for where? No sumbission from him

So to feed him i would lock him in the cage first place the food and then open his gate..this way i started slowly getting him to learn to sit before i open the gate

Also..unbelievably to all i started getting him to accept head rubs.. and he started realising that the he enjoyed receiving them ..so he began to mellow to me
Bros eh

No be by force to keep dis dog eh

Oduduwa's Ife precedes Oyo kingdom

How can Benin send a prince to save Ife from Oyo that was non existent by the time of Oduduwa

Infact Benin wasn't existing as a kingdom then because it was the same prince that established Benin kingdom that also established Oyo

And the prince came from Ife (A descendant of Oduduwa)

Oduduwa was long dead when Oyo was founded

It's not about building in the wrong places. It's about your own brothers selling those wrong places to unsuspecting people and when houses started springing up, the appropriate agency overseeing the demolition exercise now didn't come up then to warn anyone who was trying to build anything on govt land.

Now, they have come to demolish everything. Where were they when those lands were sold by criminal elements to these people?
So ur brothers are mugu

And then, I thought they own Lagos, why buying land from tenants

They are stylistically using damage control to change the narrative.

Yoruba people are destroying houses belonging to the Igbos. We have taken note already.
Why should all the houses built on the wrong places belong to a particular tribe?

Don't u think that's sabotage?

As teacher, a 16 Yr old girl failed and had to repeat the year.
She came into my office begging that I should pass her. I told her she has to repeat.
She crossed to my desk, rubbed by thighs and body and said "I'll do anything for you just to pass" . This happened in seconds.

Now, this girl then, though 16, had an adult body. Fair, slim, but huge laps, asxx, and huge buubs.

I told her to sit down. I could report her to her parents, but I quietly told her that her approach of wanting pass with sxx will not help her in the future. While saying all this, my John Thomas don rise finish.

She started crying and at the end agreed to repeat. The next year she passed everything with extinction.
I called her and reminded her of the previous year and she said thank you so much for patiently teaching me life the right way. I repeated but I learnt far better this year.

If not that it was imprinted in my head that she's a minor and don't want their wahala... Omo... Who knows i would have chopped wella.

Thank God for my morals sha.
What does passing with Extinction mean sir
