BoldBrainz: Nigerian pidgin is an English-based creole, and this shouldn't even be a basis for lengthy arguments. I'm currently editing a very bulky document and won't have the time to write detailed epistles on this. Please kindly do a simple internet search on this subject. Please stop mentioning CREOLE u don't know what it means Common! U are getting on my nerves |

Hanndye: I was a bit confused so went to Google. This clarifications shows pidgin is not exclusive to English Language. Yeah sure Any Language can have a pidgin version Pidgin simply means a corrupted version of a language used for easy communication originally between first language speakers and speakers of other languages e.g a Briton trying to communicate with an Isoko man and vice versa |

Davoneskay: Pidgin is not totally same as creole. Creole has rules guiding it. Creole has syntax according to a documentary I got. But Pidgin has no rules. Jamaican patois used to be Pidgin for a very long time before it became standardize and developed to a full language (creole). Illicit, kindly note that most English speakers who aren't Nigeria do not understand Nigerian Pidgin English. You may think it is simple but it is very complex to them. For example, "Dey there make pant dey wear you" is a Pidgin English but no non-Nigerian English speakers would understand. Boldbrainz, Upsupa, and the rest, Pidgin English is totally not same with creole. Creole is advanced and standardized. It has its lexis and structure. Thank you bro I don't understand their adamancy One even went as far as copying what both pidgin and Patois means Yet he still can't comprehend what is written in black and white Can you imagine? About the 'dey there make pant dey wear you' lol It's just like when u use some idiomatic expressions in English, not everyone deciphers it easily But in proper English its universal, while in pidgin it's regional |

Broken English is different to Pidgin. Pidgin Enlish cant sound alike because it's a broken language (no grammatical rules) It is made up of jargons, random and loan words and heavily influenced by the native language of any region you find it So even in Nigeria you have different varieties but the things is it is mutually intelligible because some words remain the same For example, ' I no fit go' ' I no know him Commot there Go die now Na me u dey follow talk? English speakers from anywhere can decipher what you mean even if their own version is different |

FreeStuffsNG: I am not sure you get my point. There's a difference between Ekiti and Ekiti state. There are Ekiti in Kwara state and those Ekiti are on the fringes of Yorubaland and not hinterland. It is like the Awori and Ijebu too, both Yoruba sub groups are in Lagos and Ogun states. If you are Yoruba, you should get my point. The only Yoruba that will be plain to every Yoruba is Oyo and Osun. The Benin republic communities next to Oyo are Yoruba speaking and used to be part of the old Oyo Kingdom.
The only Yoruba that will be plain to every Yoruba is the Oyo Yoruba. As a Yoruba, the other dialects of Yoruba are not difficult for me to understand but it's only the Oyo one that I hear and see as plain. Ekiti, Ulesha , Ijebu, Ondo, Egba, Igbomina and all of them, I can hear but only the Oyo is plain to us all. I understand you |

christejames: Nope...
Pidgin English is the major creole language in West Africa English speaking nations. Even amongst the nations the language has so many variaties and differences. Pidgin is a mixture of a local language and foreign one, or at most 'twisted' foreign language.
So Nigerian Pidgin English is the most popular across the region and even the world due to our large export of arts and how far we travel. Nigerian pidgin English is not a creole The best u can say is that in the south south it's almost a Creole but not yet |

I lived and attended University there, I know how often I had to explain the pidgin English I spoke to them. Even if u tell an English speaking person from England that ' I no want problem', they will understand Let's not forget how pidgin English started It's a means of communication between Europeans (The British), colonial masters, slave traders (merchants) and indigenous populations It was effective Any English speaker that can't decipher what 'I no want problem' means is probably forming or has cognitive problem |
