Finished the year watching Beetlejuice (1988)
This movie is a weird masterpiece of Tim Burton. The fast pace and just an hour 45 minutes makes it an enjoyable watch with no breaks in funny moments

Really bro?

Guy, times change. Substance over form.

The op opened this thread 10 years ago. However, by 2015 (2 years later), the thread was almost exclusively for movies because people realized that there was already a thread for series that was opened in 2011. The series thread existed two years before this thread.

That's a better reason. I actually told the WriterNig guy before he refused, abeg make we just leave am

Music/Radio / Re: Tems, Burna Boy, Asake, Davido And Olamide On Obama's Favourite Songs Of 2022 by Illusioneffect(m): 2:47pm On Dec 30, 2023
Contentplug:
Around 3:00 pm on Friday, December 29th, 2023, former US President Barack Obama dropped his 2023 playlist titled: “Barack Obama's Favorite Music of 2023.”

The playlist which contains 28 songs, spanning across continents and genres shows the politician's high taste for music beyond borders and biases. This isn't a new thing as the President has a culture of appreciating arts all over the globe, from music to movies and books.

In what Africans do not particularly find surprising due to the recent success of Afrobeats, a couple of Afrobeats top hits made the playlist. However, there seem to be a little surprise in the former POTUS choice Afrobeat songs.

Every African with even a below average knowledge of African music will admit that Afrobeats is incomplete without the exploits of Nigerian stars.

With his Grammy-nominated hit song “Unavailable”; off the Timeless album, featuring South African star, Musa Keys, Davido makes the list.

Also on the list is Burna Boy with his didactic hit “Sitting on top of the World” which featured American rapper 21 Savage. Asake of YBNL made it to the list too with “Amapiano“; an Amapiano-themed song featuring his boss, Olamide.

The last Nigerian artist to grace the playlist is the Grammy-winning vocalist, Tems. She got into the playlist with her recent hit song “Me & U.”

Although many Nigerians accept this as a testament to the massive growth in the Nigerian music industry, others wonder why their favorite artists didn't make the list.

In the spirit of celebrating Afrobeats, it'd suffice to add that South African biggest female rising star, Tyla, made it to the list too with her Grammy-nominated track “Water.”

What do you think about this playlist?
Obama's list is trash tbh, he's just trying to be inclusive to a fault which just says something about his honesty to the music industry.

I am hoping that you will have sense in 2024. Jack Reacher is a series. This is not a series tread but actually a movies thread.

Happy new year in advance.
He's on the right. The person who opened this thread never specified if it's a movie thread. He said series too even anime

Stop trolling. Batman is the most iconic.

6 standalone Superman movies.

8 standalone Batman movies.

Why add "trolling" to the mix, it's not that deep, it's a question.

Movies I watched this week
Poor Things- 10/10
This movie is a masterpiece to me. I've always been a fan is Yorgos after watching the Lobster , the cinematic experience seems so original and unique and the comedy was so solid.
I was in the impression that Gladstone would win best actress but the award is certainly going to Emma

Breath of Life- 9/10
It's worth the hype

American Fiction - 7/10
It's a funny film but not what I was expecting

A recent fan poll on Fandango found that the most anticipated movie of 2024 is a comic book movie. I thought they were tired.

Read more about the survey here:

There's definitely Marvel universe fatigue but Deadpool is not actually a Marvel universe franchise plus the intrigue of having wolverine, all the x men, an Avenger cameo and Taylor Swift is kinda enticing, don't you think.
Another factor is the Deadpool franchise has always been a special kind of marvel

"Breath of Life" (2023).

"MGM's Leo the lion roaring at the beginning of a Nollywood flick? Impossible!....or not?

The amount of times i have seen the ad of this on YouTube for the past one week and even on Billboard meant there was no way i wasn't going to indulge.

First off, From the beginning, you would just know the production is not 100% Nigerian, and some foreign input is at play here because it was so crisp and clean. The cinematography was top work, the location was Nigeria but there was a way the shots were taken that looked so polished even more better in full HD, which i saw it in 👏🏿.

The story tells of a man who lost his faith in God after a terrible personal loss and whilst on paper it presents itself as a "Faith based or Christian flick" but it is much more than that, it explores the themes of love, sacrifice, pain and loss in an amazing storytelling way that was heavy on good character development and excellent story arc. If you are an ardent cinephile, you could easily tell how it was all going to end, but not enough to keep you disinterested tho, as it had enough juice to make you wanna see the end. The storyline contradicts with logic at some point tho that made the narrative at a point not so compelling, but they made up for it, with an "obvious", but strong logical befitting ending.

The acting is top shelf, memorable performances especially from leads, the script is strong (little issues here and there but not enough to shake it), the direction was marvelous and the soundtrack was so good and carefully curated, you could easily tell that they had a professional music and sound director on the team, like i was actually Shazaming the songs as i was watching!. All these meant that the production value was A1.

Now while the movie is good, I don't think it will "jolt" you immediately you hit play based on how the marketing has been or how people have hyped it to be, but trust me, in hindsight, it is a top motion picture, it is a sure "breath of fresh air" from the poo that Nollywood tends to churn out more often than not. In the end, it leaves you profoundly asking yourself what is your purpose in this life?
A fine watch for a Christmas morning for me before all the festivities start 😊.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate on here and Happy Holidays my people 🎉

8/10.
You've made me interested in the movie, I just hope you're not making me in a dog fart movie sha

I can even go back to when I told Abdul the same thing about James Wan and screenshot it so you can see it. I have no faith in that guy outside of horror. After several screen tests and reshoots, he still achieved a critical score of less than 40%. All jokes aside, this is bad, very bad.
I also remember complaining of the CGI - most of the folks were saying it's ok😂, CGI here's worse than the Flash a 1,000%

Aquaman 3/10- Glad this movie pics bombing because this movie is garbage- James Wan should just stick to horror. Dit wanted to be like a buddy comedy, all of a sudden it became a thriller- next thing it was star wars but boring.

Wonka - 8/10
Generic but absolutely hilarious

Migration - 7/10
Good movie for the children. I left the cinemas before it ended but still funny👍

Lol..
Everything the guy said is off..

As for the requitements, each character all has hatred for the empire.. mostly Revenge. That's why they got conned easily by the guy who betrayed them.

All dialogues are very very good..

And as for the plot..to those who don't understand it.. general Tarek literally spelt what to expect from other parts lol..

Go watch and come back to comment
Every dialogue in the mood was bad bro.
The fact that this is a movie that's poised to be the next Star Wars is laughable tbh. I love Snyder and I prayed this movie would be really good but it fell short.
First off and my main concern was the movie had no spirit at all. No humour, I didn't feel anything for the characters - the folks that joined her - the reason for joining her in the adventure was so bland to me- the rebellion and the reasons why one would die for a cause wasn't really fleshed out at all. Good Sci Fi movies should have humor esp through dialogue and physical humour but I saw none of that.
Also the story was so dry. Like every other SciFi movie, it doesn't have a new story to tell. The plot twist was already known in 30 minutes after the film started- no suspense at all
I just rewatched it the 3rd time and I'm giving it a 4/10
