Baddestguyp: Lol... Characters who are goody-two-shoes are annoying...
Personally I prefer good characters who are capable of cold logic. They can tell the logical thing to do is to end that villain eg. the Punisher, Deadpool, Wolverine and Batman perhaps. Any sane hero would already know that you can’t put this guy in jail. Invincible is very strong but he keeps punching like a tiny girl |

oyaskii: That S1 sold me dreams fr 😩....glad i have been able to form the habit of dropping media that no longer serves my interests, no matter how high profile they may seem on paper...
I might get around to this S3 sometime in the future or not even, it's not a priority anymore... can't be arsed tbh. I can’t even believe I’m saying this but I enjoyed Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man more than I’m enjoying this shit of a show - it’s like they’re no stakes for invincible at law- hundreds of thousands of people just died in the last episode and a particular guy from the first season and I felt nothing at all - WHICH IS THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF THE SHOW! |

Invincible is pissing me of. They keep trying to make him dumb asf🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ you just met the guy that killed almost your mother and killed hundreds of thousands of people including your friends in cold blood and you are hesitating to kill him AGAIN!! Until your tiny little brother tells you otherwise 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ who in the world thinks that makes you a good person🤦🏾♂️🤦♂️ I believe Invincible is the fault for all those people dying - he wasn't the guy with the knife but the harbinger itself. Dumb ass show |

Gmajor: [/b]Breath of Life (2023)
Last December, I decided to dive into some of Nollywood’s most acclaimed movies to see what the hype was all about. Two films stood out from 2023: Breath of Life and A Tribe Called Judah. Both were commercial and critical darlings, so I downloaded them, ready to be impressed.
Breath of Life swept the Nigerian Oscars, winning Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Trailblazer Award, Best Lead Actor, Best Director, and—most importantly—Best Movie. With all those accolades and glowing reviews, I thought, “At the very least, this movie will be passable.”
Oh, how wrong I was.
Breath of Life is set in Nigeria between (I think?) 1960 and 1995. It follows Timi, a man who was once the epitome of perfection but is now a recluse after a series of tragedies shattered his faith. Enter Elijah, a wide-eyed, asthmatic graduate who returns to his village (??) in search of employment and dreams of becoming a man of God. He lands a job as a houseboy for Timi, and the two form an unlikely father-son bond that culminates in a Christ-like sacrifice. Oh, and there’s a romantic subplot thrown in for good measure. The film tackles themes like grief, love, found family, justice, injustice, loss of faith, and reconciliation with God. Sounds deep, right? Well, it’s not.
The Positives
Let’s start with the good stuff because, honestly, there isn’t much. The acting is solid—no surprise, given all the awards it won. The movie also attempts something ambitious: recreating Nigeria between 1960 and 1990. This is no small feat. Where do you find authentic cars, houses, and fashion from that era? How do you avoid accidentally capturing modern-day elements that break the immersion? Hollywood, with its massive budgets, can pull this off with elaborate sets, props, and color grading. Nollywood, with its limited resources, deserves some credit for trying. It doesn’t fully succeed, but hey, at least they dared to be different.
The music isn’t terrible either. Most of the tracks fit the scenes, though I wish they’d used more music from the 1950s to 1990s to really sell the time period. And visually, the movie is gorgeous. The colors pop, and it’s nice to look at—when you’re not bored out of your mind.
The Not-So-Positives Let’s get into the real issues, starting with the pacing. This movie is almost two hours long, but it feels like 10. Scenes drag on forever, subplots are left unresolved, and by the halfway point, I was taking breaks every 5 minutes.
Then there’s the plot. The main story isn’t particularly interesting, but the church subplot? Oh, that left me baffled. Here’s the gist: Elijah wants to be a pastor and stumbles upon an abandoned church that Timi used to lead. He cleans it up and starts hosting prayer meetings, hoping to eventually turn it into a full-fledged church. But wait—his girlfriend’s dad wants the land! He has even paid off the land use charge (a whopping 49 million naira) to demolish the church and build… something. So Elijah and his girlfriend start fundraising to save the church.
To me, and this is extremely ridiculous. First, why is a state government land accruing land use charges? That makes zero sense. Second, why is Elijah so attached to this church? It’s been abandoned for years, and he had only just started using it for prayer meetings—not even Sunday services! Why not move the meetings elsewhere? In 1995, you could buy land for less than 10,000 naira (Elijah raised more than that), so why not just relocate? The whole subplot feels forced and nonsensical.
And don’t get me started on the morality angle. Elijah repeatedly insists he’s saving himself for marriage, but then he’s seduced by his girlfriend, which somehow leads to his incurable lung disease worsening. The movie seems to imply that his illness is divine punishment for giving in to temptation, but it never explores or even acknowledges this idea. So why include it?
Final Thoughts
Breath of Life is, at best, mediocre and, at worst, a boring slog. It took me three months to finish this movie, and by the end, I was left wondering: Why did this win so many awards? If this is the best Nollywood has to offer, what does that say about the films that lost to it? Or the ones that weren’t even nominated?
Nollywood, we have to do better. We can’t keep celebrating mediocrity.
Rating: 2/10 I disagree........ I enjoyed the movie because I decided to keep my brain outside my body and watch the whole movie as if I was in a trance. Last Nollywood film I ever watched. I'm not going back again no matter the awards any of the insult to movies Nollywood makes |

Kaycee7: 3 months to finish a 2-hour movie? This had me passed out 😂🤣😂 When I read you were taking breaks, I didn't know you meant full vacations 😁 Every Nollywood movie is a 6/10 before I even watch it and it never increases but reduces |

God!!! I’ve just been released from Aunty Spammy’s jail at last, i still don’t know what I dif😭😭😭
When Harry Met Sally (1989)
The charm of When Harry Met Sally lies in its simplicity. It's not trying to be flashy or overly dramatic, which makes it feel so much more authentic. It gives us a philosophical, comical take on love and friendship, all while exploring the age-old question: Can men and women really just be friends?
It's practically a perfect movie to me. Laugh out loud funny, relatable, timeless, authentic, and incredibly well acted. I'll give it some time, but I feels like it's other there with my favorite films of all time in terms of how much I loved it. I only wish I could watch it for the first time again.
10/10

Goke7: What was Vance sitting down there for? and what right does he have to challenge Zelensky? Vance ruined the entire conversation First of all- he's the Vice President he has every right to be there. Also he didn't ruin the conversation - the Ukrainian did and he tried to at every point of the 40 minutes conversation. The 32 minutes was very cordial but the Ukrainian kept on being emotional throughout the discussions when they could have discussed it without the media plying through. He decided to ask Vance a very hostile question in a sane clime - if Vance decided not to answer the way he did it would have been really shameful to the USA whose stance is peace no matter the evil dictator Putin is |
Foreign Affairs › Re: "Show Respect": Trump, US VP In Fiery Exchange With Zelenskyy Over Russian War by Illusioneffect(m): 11:33pm On Feb 28, 2025 |
Goke7: Jd Vance was too disrespectful there even Trump was still diplomatic until Vance added fire This shows you just watched a 2 minute clip I watched the entire press conference with Zelensky. There was 40 minutes of discussion up to the argument. Most people saw at most the last ten minutes. The whole video gives the proper context. When I first watched the argument without the proper context, I thought it was possible that Trump and Vance ambushed Zelensky or were even trying to humiliate him. That's not what happened. You had 40 minutes of calm conversation. Vance made a point that didn't attack Zelensky and wasn't even addressed to him, and Zelensky clearly started the argument. In the first 40 minutes, Zelensky kept trying to go beyond what was negotiated in the deal. When Trump was asked a question, it was always "we'll see." Zelensky made blanket assertions that there would be no negotiating with Putin, and that Russia would pay for the war. When Trump said that it was a tragedy that people on both sides were dying, Zelensky interjected that the Russians were the invaders. For his part, Trump made clear that the US would continue delivering military aid. All Zelensky had to do was remain calm for a few more minutes and they would've signed a deal. The argument started when Trump pointed out that it would be hard to make a deal if you talk about Putin the way Zelensky does. Vance interjects to make the reasonable point that Biden called Putin names and that didn't get us anywhere. The Zelensky/Trump dynamic was calm and stable. It was when Vance spoke that Zelensky started to interrogate him. Throughout the press conference to that point, everyone was making their arguments directly to the audience. Zelensky decided to challenge Vance and ask him hostile questions. He went back to his point that Putin never sticks to ceasefires, once again implying that negotiations are pointless. Why on earth would you do this? Then came the fight we all saw. Zelensky was minutes away from being home free, and he would have had the deal and new commitments from the Trump administration. The point Vance made was directed against Biden and the media, taking them to task for speaking in moralistic terms. This offended Zelensky, and that began the argument. I've been a fan of Zelensky up to this point, but this showed so much incompetence, if not emotional instability, that I don't see how he recovers from this. The relationship with the administration is broken. Ukraine should probably go with new leadership at this point. |

OhBritannia: My brother just ignore. The average mentality of a black man from Nigeria is not reason and take into consideration the valid concerns of others but to use the valid concerns of others to elevate himself in a toxic manner and turns everything into toxicy as you can see that someone already replied you saying "you go cry tire" You should look in the mirror yourself because you're definitely the 'average mentality' Nigerian. It's only on this thread Nigerians like yourself complain of anime series - The thread specifically says 'What series are you watching now?' not 'what series except anime are you watching now?,'. When this thread started people were discussing Family Guy - a cartoon series - the only difference was it was not made in Japan. If you have a problem with anime shows - that's your problem - no one needs to conform to your standard here. Animes are series too - 99% of the world knows that already except 1980s thinking average mentality Nigerian guys like yourself. |

oyaskii: It is so tiring seeing people regurgitate the same BS about Anime not being a tv show, and so doesn't fit into convos here.
Forget the fact that Anime can infact be a tv show, it rarely constitutes as derailing here, as it is the occasional one or 2 good anime that comes out that it's been discussed actively here, Before Solo Leveling S2 discussions currently now, the last active Anime discussions here was AOT, some 2;years ago. All other minute anime discussions are taking to the Anime thread, so i can't even understand the faux outrage every 3 market days?.
Nobody has a monopoly over this thread, anyone has the right to post any media that constitutes as a tv show here, and if you don't like it, it's best to look away...i mean, there is a muppet that has constantly posted movies on this tv shows thread for years now, and i haven't seen any of your "Anti-Anime Brigade" call the mods on the bellend for derailing, infact you guys have lapped it up as a norm now....so probably accept this too and stop the whinging 😩 I can understand them sha, it’s our 1970s mamas and papas that have 3 children or should that are probably complaining 😭🤲🏾 |

Kaycee7: I love Korra Who's a better Avatar when it comes too fighting and the Avatar state? Nigerian twitter have been hollering almost a week now😭 when the actual answer is definitely Korra In pure fighting ability outside the Avatar State, Korra probably edges out Aang. She’s more naturally combative and versatile in close-quarters combat, while Aang leans on evasion and redirection. In the Avatar State, it’s closer—Aang’s got the advantage of all past Avatars’ knowledge, making his peak moments (like the Ozai fight) jaw-droppingly precise, but Korra’s raw strength and decisiveness make her terrifyingly effective, even without that spiritual depth post-Season 2. It might come down to context: Aang’s better at fighting while staying true to a philosophy of peace, while Korra’s the go-to if you need someone to throw down and end a threat fast. |

Left it at S1, tempted to come back to it, because it's all you have been talking about for weeks now.... The thing about Solo Leveling is it has a very simple premise and unlike Arcane that tries to be emo and artsy, SL doesn't take itself too seriously it's a very straightforward show - fun action sequences that can never be replicated in live-action |
