omopapa:Thank you very much. That is helpful. ![]() |
Please o, does anyone know anything about renewing your passport in the UK right now? ![]() |
Monmarri:No, it's been a long time since when I did mine. But driving lessons in the Uk are about £25 - £30 and if she hasn't driven before, a lot of driving schools will do discounts like first 5 lessons at lower rates or 2 for 1 and so on. As for Naija driving, I personally had to unlearn many bad habits from driving many years in Naija. For a learner, it almost makes no sense to me learning to drive on the right hand side of the road for instance and coming to UK to learn to drive on the left. But others may think differently... |
bayosegun:Done... |
Inkredible:O boy, you don turn Glaswegian abi lmao... |
Bourne007:Sorry man, that's why I said not everyone knows. In the first council I lived in, I had to go back to the council office after the initial bill, show them the rules and they got someone from the back office who was obviously more experienced. But that was cos I went to look for cheap house in the council next to the one the school is located in. The council where the uni is has a ready made form you just complete and they handle everything no wahala.... |
Monmarri:It's almost useless learning in Naija. Most of what she learns won't be useful in Uk and may even be detrimental... I would suggest getting her international license from Naija which she can use for 1 year, taking lessons in Uk and practicing on the international license if she has access to a car and insurance based on the international license. |
Bourne007:Both our names actually... |
Bourne007:Sorry bros, don't mean to drag. I am here with wife and children on tier 4 visa and have not paid a penny in council tax. Wife has been working full time since we've been here and rules haven't changed. My last council tax letter was earlier this year with full exemption. Which is why I also said based on my experience. I put the link for further clarification and so someone will not say I'm just talking based on my experience... |
LagosismyHome:Yes. But Tier 4 students studying part-time are subject to certain restrictions: no work, no work placements, no dependants. See... https://www.ukcisa.org.uk/Information--Advice/Visas-and-Immigration/Tier-4-eligibility-and-requirements |
simbated:I dey tell you. Maybe I'm cheap but I no buy no bottled water nothing... ![]() |
Phenmeson:Una well done o. I have hardly contributed (due to hustle) but this forum helped me a lot in the past so rectifying that from now. On the council tax issue, speaking from my own experience, even if the spouse has permission to work and is working, the full exemption still applies for students and dependents. It applies to spouses of international students as well. Some people are not aware of this so if you are sent a council tax letter without the full exemption, you simply go to your council office and tell them you are a full time international student and your spouse has ‘no recourse to public funds’. This has even been clarified in court. See... https://www.ukcisa.org.uk/information--advice/fees-and-money/council-tax#layer-3867 and https://www.ukcisa.org.uk/information--advice/fees-and-money/council-tax#layer-3867 for what constitutes student for council tax purposes. |
Jasmine17:Ok. Thank you. And yes, I am very sure! I'm just wondering if NECO didn't do it right the first time, what's the guarantee they will do it right a second time plus another 17k for courier. And scratch card has entered now... jmnsimone:No. I am not on ground right now, so I have someone pursuing it. Yet to see how that pans out... |
Jasmine17:To clarify, I sent: MSc certificate by myself. MSc transcript from Unilag. NECO result from NECO office Ilupeju (as per instructions in previous posts). This was exactly what the WES required documentation list asked for... Thanks again. |
illusory: Jasmine17:No. I am verifying MSc and at the time, I started, the required documents just said degree certificate, academic transcript and Final secondary school result from the examining body. So I did exactly that. In fact I am still waiting for the further verification from Unilag... |
Hello everyone. And well done to all those assisting with advice and procedure. I have been following this thread and the required steps. I followed all the steps listed in previous post regarding NECO verification from WES. Paid 1k via remita. Submitted everything at NECO office Ilupeju, including the 17k for courier and all that and had it sent from NECO directly. But have received this message from WES regarding NECO verification: "Reason: WES received your document, but it was not sent directly from your academic institution. WES requires your institution to send academic documents directly to WES. Instructions: Please ask your academic institution to send your document to WES in a sealed envelope that is signed or stamped across the back flap by the appropriate official. If you have already contacted your institution, no action is necessary at this time." I called them and the agent agreed that something wasn't right and that I should complete a contact us form. I have now received a reply email saying: "Please carefully review the required documents for Nigeria. WES requires Final Secondary Examinations results be submitted directly to WES by the appropriate examining body." Now I'm wondering what to do from here. Should I ask my secondary school to send the result or ask NECO to resend it and pay another 17k for courier? Thanks. |
Hi folks, have an aunt planning to visit some friends in Canada and asking me lots of questions. Since I don't have the answers maybe someone here can help. First, she's been denied visa to Ireland recently, will that affect this application? And what should she particularly keep in mind. Thanks. |
oluwatunmise02:Yes. if you have a 2.1 or 1st class, commonwealth shared scholarships is probably the best route though only for MSc. For PhD and otherwise, if its not commonwealth scholarship, it will depend on the course and the school, so you'd have to search for what you are looking for specifically. |
Anfieldboss:For the Tier 2 visa which you are asking about specifically , https://www.gov.uk/tier-2-general/eligibility says, "You’ll usually need to be paid at least £30,000 per year or the ‘appropriate rate’ for the job you’re offered - whichever is higher. Check the appropriate rate for the job you’ve been offered. Check the guidance for situations when you can be paid less - for example if: your certificate of sponsorship was assigned to you before 24 November 2016 you’ll work as a medical radiographer, nurse, paramedic or secondary school teacher in some subjects you’ll work as a pre-registration nurse or midwife." |
claremont:Thanks a lot Claremont. From my calculations, that's about 6% per annum. In comparison, 364 days treasury bills in Nigeria right now is about 18% per annum and is closer to 20-22% actual yield which is what I've been doing in the past. Wouldn't it be more beneficial then to send money back to naija to invest then? What is the benefit of investing here. I want to be able to make meaningful comparison with credible data so those with experience pls be patient and help out. Thanks.

Hello house, I would appreciate some advice regarding things I can invest in here in the UK. I am doing a PhD so will be here for at least four years and my wife has a job already. We have children too, so our time is basically used up. We would like to invest with our present income but would like more passive investments as we don't have time to run a biz. Any advice is welcome. Thanks |

Pls any help with these questions will be appreciated. What exactly are the differences between the ikeja VAC and the VI VAC? why is there a £55 charge at ikeja. Is the processing faster, are you more likely to get your visa or something... (I know that sounds ridiculous) I'm also applying with my wife and 2kids. Can I apply for express visa for myself alone? Whats the best way to approach payment for visa fees and ihs fees for all four of us for 4+ years as it's quite a lot... |
soulhighman:Hello everyone. Been quietly following this thread for a while. Regarding the above, what exactly are the differences between the ikeja VAC and the VI VAC? For instance, why is there a £55 charge at ikeja. Is the processing faster, are you more likely to get your visa etc... I'm also applying with my wife and 2kids. Can I apply for express visa for myself alone? Whats the best way to approach payment for visa fees and ihs fees for all four of us for 4+ years as it's quite a lot... Thanks guys... and gals... :-) |
