Sirmwill: In fact
I am not Pro-Tinubu ooo But that is a strategy that Tinubu wants to use to weaken the influence the north has on the country's economy This has no merit or logical sense. It's more provable that the bill is against Lagos state than any state. A bill that allows states to get tax for production and consumption in the individual states, that taxes the rich and big industries is weakening the North, how? Kindly explain, not just repeat and insist. |

Comedians. Taiwo Oyedele is the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. He was appointed and the committee set up since July 2023. Despite the fact that Nigeria's economic problem is an emergency of sorts. This committee has taken time and detail to draft this reforms. The executive has done that bit and now presented it to the legislative to work on it. Someone says it's not the right time, when is the right, best time to make Nigeria better? Are the reforms not aimed at making our tax system better? Someone says it's too fast, what is the appropriate speed for it to pass to second reading? He sent in the bill over a month ago, and we remember the Northern governors reaction was in October, this is end of November, tomorrow is December. Should we be proud of inefficient snail speed to do the right thing? There's still Committee stage, then third and final reading, then signing of the bill, then president assent, then implementation. Implementation is like the very very slow part for the matter. Allow the committee stage do all the work, debate and distilling. Why do the usual Nigerian sitting on a file for no reason. Do we really want progress in this country or just our people in power? |

Nigeria and Nigerians have been doing and living better before he came into power, since he came into power he has made life unbearable and still doing so till date Be factual please, the FG has not touched anything tax, except for this current attempt at tax reforms. The tax routine has been same as before the current government. |

promami: I beg to differ.
We can't be talking about growing our economy and making things easier for Nigerians to spur growth and we're using indices that works in other climes as against our own unique situation. That's unfair and untenable.
We must adopt local kinetic measures that alleviates hardship and ease of business which in turn, increases sectors like production and manufacturing which can help drive the economy. We can sell oil abroad whatever other people are selling, but as for selling to Nigerians, it must be cheap.....like dirt cheap. If it's called subsidy it's fine. As long as Nigerians are able to afford fuel comfortably.
Beyond exchange rate, cost of fuel is one of the reasons there's hardship in the land. This one we can influence on our own directly, it's only fair to do it to turn things around. Please be realistic, life doesn't work by your pleas to differ. |

promami: This govt is funny
This refinery was built with tax payers money. The oil they're refining belongs to Nigeria. The people working there are Nigerians paid in Naira. They don't import much (if there's anything to import) to run that refinery.
So how the heck are we paying more for something exchange rate doesn't influence?
Fuel was 180 when clueless Buhari left power cos we were paying subsidy. Now that subsidy is gone under nepotistic T-Pain regime and imported fuel is 1,100 can someone explain why we have to pay over 1k for locally refined fuel since there's no need for any subsidy? The raw materials (crude oil) is not free. It's costed at global dollar rates. Refineries are not block making factories or pure water shops, they are very costly to run and staff are paid at global competitive rates. Aside that, if we sell cheap, it'll only encourages the continued smuggling to neighboring countries. Our PMS is still very cheap compared to the rest of the world. What we need to work on is the exchange rates coming down. Exchange rates have an effect on PMS rates. The global price of PMS is about $1 per liter. Simple maths is that we're selling at about 57cents because a dollar is about 1,750. If a dollar is about 1000, fuel prices will come down. It's not a charity. |

How can you hustle to make over a 100M and give Government that don't even know what you went through to make it 25%... that's stealing Firstly, no one is increasing taxes to 25%, instead there a planned reduction in company income tax from the current 30% to 25% by 2026. Stop feeding on gossip. Tax is an important part of revenue generation. How anyone would ask the importance of paying taxes shows high end ignorance. 100million naira is a lot of money, you don't hustle to make it. Hustling is itself the stealing if you really know the meaning of hustle. Like i said, there's a REDUCTION in company income tax, i don't know why you ignorantly don't want it but prefer to pay more. Company tax is not personal tax. Please do a bit of reading on the issues, it's irritating to spoon feed especially when minds are already made up. |

LandMann: Too many stupid people commenting on this issue.
That is how they were jubilating when Tinubu gleefully announced subsidy is gone and today we are battling with massive inflation.
This tax bill will do nothing but create more hardship and suffering for poor Nigerians.
The tax bill is proposing to raise VAT from 7.5% to 15% and you're being deceived by propaganda of north not contributing to VAT but enjoying the benefit.
90% of the vatable items are things consumed by southerners (south south, south east, south west and parts of middle belt).... When they pass this bill, the price of everything that is manufactured in the market and is vatable will be increased in southern Nigeria.... that is when your eyes will open and you'll start crying.
Tinubu is not tackling corruption... You don't hear of him sending bill to national assembly to make death sentence the punishment for corruption.... But he's busy sending bill to raise taxes for poor Nigerians and borrow more dollars, funds that he'll loot.
There's a reason Kenyan youths brought their country to a standstill because of this same tax bill their president used corrupt legislators to pass through...
Keep watching comedy skits and laughing your life away while these stupid corrupt politicians look for ways to make your life a living hell.
Sha improve your begging skills and hope that those you beg for assistance are stupid enough to help you when the time comes and the suffering increases Pay your taxes oga and stop whining. You want things to work but you don't want to pay taxes. Is that how it's done in countries that you look up to? |

Why are you opening your shops and going to office in different parts of the world, but call helpless people who need to make same living saboteurs, are you feeding them, did you live by example in finland, amelika and lagos? Frankaka8: Please answer my question before putting urs out He claimed that the major reason why Nigeria was in financial trouble was fuel subsidy. You need evidence on that? Check how much we were spending on subsidy and how much was being owed. Check our debt today and the percentage that was due to fuel subsidy. He said that we spent billions of naira on our refineries but they didn't work. You need evidence of this? Visit the refineries or use Google. He said importers that benefited from fuel subsidy were unhappy with the removal and decided to fight back. The naira started to fall very rapidly. You obviously don't need proof on this. Naira went to fast from about 700 to about 2000. Do you know what stopped the fall because i remember opposition and sore losers predicting continued fall and saying all the 'persecution' government was doing can't work. Was it the arrest of binance executives that stopped the fall or clampdown on BDC because your people opposed and mocked the moves. Even CBN selling dollars to BDCs at set rates didn't work or stopped working so explain why exactly the dollar is not 1000 or 10,000. Someone claimed God intervention, what is your own claim? Why is the dollar not 10000 or 1000 today? |
