Several female students of Imo State University, IMSU, Owerri, living in hostels located close to the Anglican Bishop’s court, were mercilessly robbed and rapp/ed by dare devil armed robbers last Wednesday. Saturday Vanguard gathered that the robbers raided virtually all the rooms in the hostels, collected mobile phones, laptop computers, jewellery and other valuable personal effects, and rapp/ed the girls. Angered by what one of the victims called “the despicable act of the heartless armed robbers”, the angry students marched peacefully to the Government House, Owerri, to lodge their complaint to Governor Rochas Okorocha. The students were particularly irked about the health of all the girls violated, especially now that HIV/AIDS is ravaging the some parts of the country. While saying that all the students occupying these external hostels are constantly attacked by hoodlums, they equally mentioned that the President, Bishop’s Court Hostels Alliance was recently attacked by these bandits. “If the landlords refuse to improve the security of life and property in these hostels, we shall refuse to pay our rents when the time is due. All the students will be united in this legitimate action”, one of the angry female students told Saturday Vanguard. |

El-Hadji Diouf's international career appears to be over after the Senegal Football Federation hit him with a five-year ban from all football-related activity in his home country. The decision, announced in a short statement on the federation's website senegalfoot.sn, came after 30-year-old Diouf reacted angrily to the federation's claims that he had failed to appear for a disciplinary hearing last week. The committee wanted to ask Diouf about comments he had made on Radio France International, claiming that "the whole system of African football is corrupt". The federation claimed Diouf had been called to a hearing on July 20, but the Blackburn forward insisted he had heard nothing of it, and then told French magazine Stade he would "go to war" with the FSF if they took further action. The FSF said Diouf is banned "from performing any football-related activity for a period of five years with effect from the date of notification of this decision". It remains possible, according to the FSF, that the decision could be reversed if Diouf were to appear before the disciplinary committee. The news comes as Diouf's club career hangs in the balance. He has been fined by Blackburn for failing to report on time for pre-season training, and was left out for their pre-season tour to Hong Kong. Manager Steve Kean said in an interview with Sky Sports this week that he thought it was time for Diouf to leave the club, indicating that enquiries have been made by other clubs. PA Sport |

IS He advocating violence now ? As the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN) has said that Nigerian Muslims would rather go to war than give up the quest for Islamic Banking, the president of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, has stated that violence is not the preserve of one person. Oritsejafor, who addressed the press yesterday at the general aviation terminal (GAT), Lagos on arrival from a trip overseas, said that if a group of people advocate violence, they should not expect others to fold their arms. “Let me tell you this, nobody can intimidate me or the Church. There are so many things that just happen in Nigeria that people just allow. Now, if a group of people say they are prepared to go to war, won’t you also expect us to respond to that naturally? But by the time we start responding, people will turn around and say ‘you are heating up the polity’. It is difficult for me to comprehend; my only response to what you have said for now is that I want to assume they were misquoted. “But I will be surprised if the SCSN thinks the best way to find a solution to a problem and to bring peace to Nigeria is to declare war. Violence is not the preserve of one person, anybody can be violent and we don’t advocate that. I will never come out to say we are prepared for war, but you are hearing it now. Let me settle down, you will hear our response and they will also get our response. We love Nigeria,” he declared. The PFN president explained that no one is against the Muslims wanting a bank that would meet their needs, but that it is wrong for the governor of the Central bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to spend state funds promoting a sectional banking system. “We are not basically against Muslims. You can have a bank that will meet your needs. What we are saying is this, does the law of this country permit the CBNgovernor to spend state money promoting a sectional banking system? We are not against non-interest banking; after all, it started from the Bible. It is the Bible that every other person has imitated. You see, it’s like someone or some persons are trying to blindfold Nigerians, but what we are against is the sectional non-interest banking. The CBN is the CBN of Nigeria and not CBN of northern Nigeria or of Islamic Nigeria. It’s a CBN of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that comprises everybody. Now, how do you take state funds running into billions to promote one kind of non-interest banking? That is a question that must be answered. It is absolutely wrong,” said Oritsejafor. Reacting to the call for amnesty for the members of the violent Boko Haram religious sect and the threat by a Christian group in the North to retaliate the killings of Christians in that region, the clergyman prayed the situation would not degenerate into a religious war. “No nation survives a religious war. I pray that Nigeria will not get to that point. BokoHaram is not just a group that came up because of economic reasons, but is purely a religious group with religious ideology. How do you now give amnesty to them? Are you going to tell them to give up their religious beliefs? The only way I think you can do this - I don’t rule out dialogue, but I think dialogue should begin within the North itself, among the Muslim leaders. We are not hearing their voices. When we had problems in the Niger Delta, we heard a lot of Niger Deltans shouting and making noise,” he said http://www.9jabook.com/forum/topics/pastor-oritsejafor-no-one-has |
A part four medical student of Madonna University, Anambra State, Kolade Olajide, and three other students have been arrested by the men of the Ekiti State Police Command for allegedly killing a policeman during a robbery operation at Moferere area of Ado-Ekiti. The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olayinka Balogun, said at a press conference where the suspects were paraded in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday, that the deceased, Mr. Olusegun Olufowobi, was shot by the gang around 8:40pm on July 20. The other suspects are, Blessing Ohworisi, a male student of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti; Ojo Ogundare, a tyre repairer and Miss Sunkanmi Faleye, Ohoworisi’s girlfriend, who is the gang leader. Faleye, who is a pre-degree student of the Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo in Ondo State, claimed she was not aware that her boyfriend was a criminal. She added that one of the gang members called her on the telephone and told her that her boyfriend had been shot by a robber. Faleye, who cried throughout the period of the parade, added that she went to OAUTH to take care of her boyfriend unknown to her he had been involved in robbery. The CP said, “The policeman was murdered in his apartment at Moferere area of Ado-Ekiti. He engaged the attackers in a gun battle with his service pistol, although he died but he shot and injured one of the hoodlums who is now receiving treatment at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife in Osun State.” The medical student, confessed to journalists that he and Ojo went with Ohoworisi aka Master Orchestral, to the residence of the deceased for the operation. The suspect, who claimed to be a former Student of Obafemi Awolowo University, where he met Ohoworisi, said the policeman was not the target. He added that they were returning from a failed operation when they saw shinning lights at the policeman’s residence. He said the gang leader went in because he thought the person using a generator in the neighbourhood must be a richman. Olajide explained that he and Ogundare, who accompanied Ohoworisi, heard a gunshot from outside the building where they had waited. He added that the policeman rushed for his pistol with which he shot the leader of the gang. The policeman was later rushed to hospital where he died, having lost so much blood while the injured gang leader was taken away by his members. Olajide said they deceived the policemen at different checkpoints and managed to take the injured gang leader to OAUTH where he and others were arrested. Last Year the Campus was thrown into dissarray following allegations of sexual harassment . That the university is a catholic based institution, owned by a revered Reverend Monsignor, Emmanuel Edeh, and prides itself as a prized citadel of learning which is also evident in the fees paid by its students, which is in the range of N300,000 to N400,000 is not enough to stop one of its lecturers from conducting a census of the female students of the institution on his bed if they will pass his paper. Mr Gospel Ajuru , a lecturer in the Pathology department of the Madonna University, Okija has been confirmed to be the type that tests the knowledge of his female students in his bed, and their performance during the duration of the ‘show’ determines what the student gets as score for both his tests and his exams. Ajuru, according to one of his students who begged for anonymity as she is still being tutored by the randy lecturer has tasted the forbidden fruit of almost all his students, especially those who are afraid of carrying over his course. |
Many of Ijebu Igbo residents heaved a sigh of relief when they learnt of Wale's arrest and subsequent death, saying that with the way he was going, he would have become another Anini in Nigeria. According to one of them who spoke anonymously, "now, we can hold meetings in the evenings and socialise. Before now, any meeting to be held usually ended by 6p.m. because of the fear of Wale's group. We never knew that our enemy lived within us. We dared not go to night clubs because of incessant car snatching". |
After the arrest of his gang members in Ibadan on March 30, Wale had called an Investigative Police Officer from SARS, Ibadan called Oloye and boasted that he could never be arrested in 20 years. He had chanted an incantation. The policeman had replied him that "Taja ba lo ogun odun laye, eran ogun ni (no matter the number of years of a dog on earth, it would still become sacrificial meat). Wale had called Oloye later, introducing himself as 'Wale Yahoo, the armed robber you are looking for'. He then offered the policeman N4 million, asking him to forget about arresting him as he had his connection. |
Wale did the same thing in October 2010 when two suspects were caught with the Honda Accord (End of Discusssion) he snatched in Ijebu Ode on October 23. At the police headquarters in Eleyele on October 25, while the suspects - Kunle and Sunday were being interrogated by the then Commissioner of Police, Mr Baba Bolanta, Wale called Sunday, asking where he was but he didn't disclose to him. Wale was angry and said Sunday was mad for trying to deceive him as he already learnt he had been arrested. He mockingly told Sunday to hand over the phone to the police beside him, bragging that he was more than someone that the police would get cheaply. He switched off his phone afterwards. |
Wale, the armed robber showed that he had either gone deep in charm making and diabolism or had informants on his payroll who were relating things to him, though the former assumption was more probable. Wale reportedly told the girl that she would not succeed in luring him into the net of the police as he could see her where she was standing with police and army officers. On three other occassions when Wale's gang members were arrested, Wale showed off this kind of extraordinary power to see beyond his immediate environment. On one of the occasions in March this year when SARS operatives in Oyo burst a gang of his, they had tried to arrest Wale who had escaped from the house shortly before the arrival of the police. One of the arrested suspects, Sunday Odidere, called Wale to know where he was and Wale told him to come and meet him at Sabo in Ogbomoso. As the SARS operatives got to Ogbomoso, Sunday called Wale but was surprised when Wale replied mockingly saying "Se wo lo lo ko awon SARS wa ba mi, ti e jo wa ninu Honda Ash Colour? (You have brought SARS operatives to come and arrest me. I can see all of you in an Ash colour Honda car). The policemen were stupefied but would not give up. Sunday insisted he was not with the police and told Wale that he would go and wait for him at Mr Biggs in Ogbomoso. However, the waiting was in vain as Wale later told Sunday that he and the policemen would go back to where they came from when they get tired of waiting. "From where do you think I get the money I spend for you during your shows? Since you have been caught, that is your own cup of tea", he had told Sunday. |
Wale's gang had also snatched a Toyota Camry on May 20 in Ijebu Igbo. The military were not left out as a captain also fell victim to Wale and his gang members on May 23 in Ijebu Ode. The soldier, according to sources from Ogun State Command, had just bought a red Toyota Camry which he was yet to register. He was somewhere in the town to get himself dinner but was still in his car making a call when Wale allegedly opened the front passenger door and drew a gun which he pointed at the soldier, ordering him to hand over his car key. Wale was said to have revealed foreknowledge of the car as he told the Army Captain that he was aware that he was yet to register the car. The soldier was said to have protested, appealing that his profession should be honoured but Wale had no ears for that. He was reported to have first of all snatched an army jungle hat he saw on the car's dashboard and shot the soldier on the jaw at close range, shattering the bone. Since the captain had no gun on him, he had to find a means of escape, more especially when he noticed that another car had blocked him at the back with other gang members inside. The soldier ran out of the car and scaled a nearby fence but these armed men still went after him. They however turned back so that they could leave the scene. Fortunately, the soldier still had a phone in his pocket and quickly made calls as he was already growing weak as a result of blood loss. The man was recently discharged from hospital with his jaw deformed. |
The owner of one of the cars snatched on July 12 expressed shock at the SARS office when he discovered that the person who robbed him was a well known face. The man (names withheld) told the police that he first ran out of his car when he heard gunshots. The man said he decided to run back to his car when he could no longer hear any sound. Unfortunately for him, as he entered his car to get away from that area, Wale was fast approaching with the other car he snatched. Crossing his victim's car, he ordered him out and collected N300,000, phones and laptop. Wale and his gang members recognised their victim but in order to be sure he didn't recognise them, Wale went back to him to ask him if he could identify the person who collected money from him but the victim replied in the negative. "That was probably my saving grace because at that time, I didn't know he was the one. The gang had recently invaded my farm and collected N2million from me. This was a young man we used to think was gentle in the area we lived", the man stated. |
When the story of Wale Yahoo was published in the July 17 edition of Sunday Tribune, little did the title know the extent to which the story would reach those who had been victims of the dead suspect or those who knew him but never thought he could be the one behind most of the robbery cases within Ijebu Ode/Ijebu Igbo/Epe/Lagos State axis which had been giving them sleepless nights. http://www.9jabook.com/forum/topics/wale-yahoo-victims-tell
