TRIPOLI- (AFP) – Featuring armour-plated doors, secret passages and a state-of-the-art control room, the underground bunker of Mutassim Kadhafi, a son of the Libyan leader on the run, seems an impregnable citadel. The sprawling facility is made up of 50 rooms buried under J’Raba Street in eastern Tripoli, protected by a double rampart. “It was rumoured that it hid a nuclear facility and others said it was the house of Moamer Kadhafi himself,” said Adel Tarbu, one of the rebel fighters who opened the big gate of the residence up to a group of AFP journalists. At first glance, it is a posh villa and its outbuilding is equipped with a swimming pool, gymnasium, sauna and bar. But its secret bunker is buried underground. “Look at the thickness of the door,” said the rebel fighter, pointing down a corridor to a room worthy of a bank vault and hooked up to its own ventilation system. “Kadhafi described us as rats, but we see how his people lived underground as rodents,” quipped Tarbu. “We know the home of the British prime minister and the White House, and they are normal compared with the Kadhafi residences.” But he is adamant about the identity of the former occupant of the secret hideout. “We found papers and military documents of Mutassim and a photograph of one of his friends who was a model, a French woman,” he added. Born in 1975, Mutassim Kadhafi was trained by Egyptian officers and is a career soldier and doctor. In 2007, his father promoted him to head of the National Security Council and in April 2009 he met US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Washington. Suspected of attempting a coup, he was exiled to Egypt but was later pardoned and returned home. Before the conflict, he was seen as a rival to his older brother Seif al-Islam for the succession to his father. The rebel fighter mocks the Kadhafi family’s obsession with security, saying the facility “looks like a James Bond movie” as he pointed out yet more sophisticated surveillance equipment. “We’re right in Hollywood and yet this is Libya.” The bunker can be accessed by walkways to the garden outside. Such passages are also found at the home of another Kadhafi son, Saadi, at a seaside cottage with bullet-proof glass over a tunnel that leads directly to a nearby avenue. At their father’s farm near Tripoli, the safety installations are as impressive with electrified fences, surveillance cameras and an electronic alarm system. The farm is located behind a number of security walls. In the regime’s Tripoli stronghold of Bab al-Aziziya, modern security systems were also discovered, suggesting that Kadhafi feared being targeted in attacks like the one launched against the same complex by the United States in April 1986. That raid killed the strongman’s adopted daughter. Mehdi, a Tunisian who joined the Libyan rebellion and fought in battle against Kadhafi’s forces, lingers in the kitchen and shows a communications room in Mutassim’s bunker. Adel Tarbu intervenes to say that when they entered the kitchen, the rebels found fresh food, suggesting that its occupants had “hurriedly left the scene”. Kadhafi’s wife Safiya, two sons Mohammed and Hannibal, and daughter Aisha entered Algeria on Monday, the foreign ministry in Algiers said. The Libyan strongman and his sons Seif al-Islam and Saadi were reported to be holed up in the town of Bani Walid, southeast of the capital, Italy’s ANSA news agency said, citing “authoritative Libyan diplomatic sources”. Rebels said another Kadhafi son, Khamis, was killed as he tried to reach Bani Walid, a claim that Allibya state television denied Tuesday in a message posted on the Internet. But little or nothing is known about Mutassim’s whereabouts. Source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/08/rebels-uncover-gaddafi-sons-james-bond-bunker/ |

More revelation from Al-mustapha By Ayo Okulaja August 3, 2011 03:56PM Print print Email email Share Share Hamza Al-Mustapha who is standing trial for the murder of Kudirat Abiola, has named the late Bola Ige as having been 'unconsciously complicit' in the murder of M.K.O. Abiola. Mr Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the late head of state, Sani Abacha revealed this during the second day of cross examination by his lawyer Olalekan Ojo at the ongoing trial at the Ikeja High Court, Lagos. According to the former CSO, "Bola Ige was appointed as the liaison officer to Abiola while he was in detention. His appointment was done after the federal government phased me out of the role." He also stated that after the demise of former military ruler, Mr Abacha, he (Al-Mustapha) reached an agreement with the federal government to set free the detained winner of the June 12, 1993 election and that his mandate must be restored some time later. He added that shortly after that agreement was reached, the federal government appointed Mr Bola Ige to replace him as the liaison officer to Abiola. Photocopy evidence The allegation that the federal government paid a certain amount of money to some Yoruba leaders was further affirmed on Wednesday when the former NSA tendered an evidence of a photocopied document signed by former head of state, Abdul Salami Abubakar, and his NSA, Abdulai Muhammed. He alleged the federal government claimed the funds was to be used for national security and to pay soldiers on peace-keeping mission whereas the funds were used to settle the Yoruba leaders who, according to him, subsequently thronged the Villa. The evidence was admitted by the judge, despite a plea by the prosecuting counsel that the document was secondary evidence and not verified. The judge, Mojisola Dada adjourned the case till Thursday when a video evidence of the Yoruba leaders who visited Abiola's cell will be played. http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5737224-146/ige_was_unconsciously_complicit_in_the.csp |
“Two cameras were used — one by the Nigerian Television Authority and the other by my bodyguard attached to the Villa. |
Lagos: Maj. Hamza Al-Mustapha on Wednesday tendered at a Lagos High Court a video on how the then Federal Military Government planned to douse the tension generated by the death of Chief M.K.O Abiola, the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election. Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to the late Gen. Sani Abacha, said the tape captured the meeting called by the then Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, on how to handle the situation. The tape labelled “Abraham Adesanya’s visit to the villa’’ was tendered following a request by Al-Mustapha’s counsel, Mr Olalekan Ojo. Al-Mustapha, who is standing trial over the murder of Kudirat, wife of Abiola, had opened his defence on Tuesday. At the resumed hearing of the case on Wednesday, Ojo had requested that the tape be played in court, but Justice Mojisola Dada objected on the grounds that the court was too stuffy. She said she could hardly breathe because the air conditioner in the court room was not working. Dada ruled that the tape would be played on Aug. 4 at the continuation of the trial. The defendants had brought a 24-inch Plasma TV and a 16-inch Sony TV sets which had already been connected before the judge disallowed it. Al-Mustapha said: “I have two tapes on the visit of the Chiefs Bola Ige and Abraham Adesanya to the Presidential Villa to see Abubakar. “Two cameras were used — one by the Nigerian Television Authority and the other by my bodyguard attached to the Villa. Al-Mustapha also told the court that shortly after the Oputa Panel sitting in Abuja, he wrote an 11-page letter to the late Ige entitled, “How you, Chief Bola Ige was used in the murder of Abiola’’. The former CSO also tendered a letter allegedly written by the then National Security Adviser, Maj.-Gen Abdullahi Mohammed, which was approved by Abubakar, directing the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria to release huge sums of money. The letter, which was read in court, stated that the money was needed as a result of the sudden death of Abiola and the influx of visitors into the country. I am beginning to like this man Minimum wage: You’re fraudulent, Buhari blasts govs Presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has slammed state governors for foot-dragging on the payment of the N18,00 national minimum wage despite participating in the processes leading to the agreement. Gen. Buhari said the governors’ action was fraudulent. |
It was gathered that most governors were aggrieved that the President did not consult them before arriving at the decision. |
Strong indications emerged in Abuja on Saturday that some state governors are opposed to President Goodluck Jonathan’s proposed single term for the president and governors. ,Read further, : http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201107314232345 |
1025:@ bold part: the most annoying and painful part of it. Abeg warn GEJ, oooo ![]() |
Lakemfa also said the labour union could no longer trust the government of the day because it had betrayed the trust of workers and had not shown integrity.[/quote] |
^^^ I doubt if this man GEJ is doing the above. If not how come he sign the minimum wage act before the April election, and now he is refusing to implement that same act that he sign?it is very obvious that he sign it so that Nigerians will vote for me. God please help Nigeria. My people is this the fresh air? |
"I Goodluck Ebele Jonathan promise to be faithful and bear true allegiance and as president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria I will discharge my duties to the best of my abilities, faithfully and in accordance with the constitution," |
THE labour unions in the country had assured all workers that they would force the Federal Government to pay the N18,000 minimum wage to all workers by all means possible. The presidency is jittery over the renewed threats by the organised labour, led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), to declare a nationwide strike over the Federal Government refusal to obey the agreement signed last week on the implementation and payment of the N18, 000 national minimum wage.http://www.tribune.com.ng/sat/index.php/front-page-articles/4854-well-get-minimum-wage-by-all-means-mobilises-workers-for-showdown-govt-jittery-invites-labour-for-parley.html |
