PoliticsI Am A Father To All Nigerians - Obasanjo by Imeobong(op): 8:31pm On Jun 06, 2011

It was a reunion of sorts for Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State and the former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday at the St. Peter Cathedral Church, Ake, Abeokuta.

The meeting of the two former political soul mates, as Mr Amosun was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before crossing over to the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and later the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), was at a thanksgiving service held in honour of the governor.

Mr Obasanjo promised to give any assistance the governor might request from him. He told journalists after the worship service that as a former president, he is “a father to all Nigerians”.

“My fatherly role is that anybody, any Nigerian in whatever position and in any walk of life that ask me for advice, I will give him, the best I can afford to give. Having been a Head of state and President, all Nigerians are my sons and all Nigerians are my daughters,” Mr Obasanjo said. “But this Governor (Amosun), is my son just like all other Nigerians are my sons.”

PoliticsRe: Dimeji Bankole Finally Arrested By EFCC by Imeobong(m): 9:27pm On Jun 05, 2011
[quote ]By Saharareporters, New York

Economic and Financial Commission have finally arrested outgoing Speaker Dimeji Bankole of the house of representatives.

An EFCC source told Saharareporters moments ago that the agency operatives moved in today to arrest Mr. Bankole after the agency received intelligence was planning to flee tonight.

For the past one week, the EFCC and Bankole have been engaged in a tense stand off arising from Mr. Bankole's refusal to answer the agency's summons for interrogation over series of corruption allegations.

Saharareporters exclusively broke the news that the EFCC investigators had linked Mr Speaker to an account at the United Banker of Africa (UBA) through which the outgoing speaker had laundered about $1 billion.

A source at the EFCC told SaharaReporters that agency was able to arrest the speaker today as soon as it discovered he had planned to escape from Nigeria early tomorrow morning.

Last Friday EFCC agents had made an attempt to arrest the speaker from his residence but that had been rebuffed by Mr. Bankole's security protection.

The EFCC had appealed to IG to withdraw Bankole's police security to facilitate the outgoing speakers arrest instead Mr. Ringim arrived at the scene to break the siege, stating that president Goddluck Jonathan had ordered the the EFCC should retreat from arresting Bankole.

A police source said Mr. Ringim came under fire following our report of his role. He later lied that he only paid the speaker a social visit at his residence, unaware of plans to by the EFCC to arrest him.

In response to criticism, the IG of police then ordered the withdrawal of Bankole's police protection.

A source within the presidency said Jonathan who is due to be received this Wednesday at the White House did not want a baggage of appearing to American officials to be continuing the tradition of protecting Nigeria's major corrupt officials.

The source said that Jonathan then instructed the IG of police and the DG of the state security service to immediately withdraw Bankole's security detail.

A source at the EFCC told us the the EFCC was able to arrest him shortly after he lost his police guards.

In addition to the huge financial scam at the UBA, the former speaker is also implicated in car buying scandal.

PoliticsThe Rot In Frsc by Imeobong(op): 9:25pm On May 30, 2011
MY driving licence expired on Wednesday May 25, 2011 and I decided to renew it immediately. This promptness is borne out of my aversion to giving bribes or begging law enforcement agents for falling short of the law. I therefore went to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) office at Olowu/Sura on Lagos Island to do the needful. Again, I got a first-hand experience of how terrible our public institutions have become.

I got to the FRSC office at 3.28pm and immediately I stepped into the compound, to my left and under a tree, I saw two officers in uniforms. They called out to me and asked what I wanted. I explained my purpose to them: that I wanted to renew my expired driving licence. They directed me to another officer who was in mufti. We exchange pleasantries and I told him again that I wanted to renew my licence. He asked for the expired licence and upon receiving and scrutinizing it, told me that it is a fake licence. He asserted that it must have been produced by licence touts after trying to show me some features which an ‘original licence’ should have.

After the initial lecture, he first complained that I have come too late in the day and then gave me three options through which I can get a driving licence. Like an insurance agent, enumerated the details of each option and advised me to consider the options in ascending order i.e. from 1-3. Each of the options is described below.

* Option 1: I may get another ‘fake’ driving licence for five thousand naira (N5,000) only in three (3) days.
* Option 2: I may get an original licence in 2-3 weeks in the ‘express mode’. The express mode costs N8, 000. There will be no need for direct data capture as my passport photograph will suffice and there is no cover note that shows any law enforcement agent that my papers are being processed by FRSC.
* Option 3: I will have to pay N8, 000 as above, appear in person for the capture of my biometrics, bring driving school certificate and wait 5-6 months to get the licence. I will however get a cover note. This is the full package.

I obstinately told him that I wanted option 3 despite his seeming ‘concern’ for the inconveniences I will experience through that course of action but did not give him an advance as he requested because there are some things I couldn’t just reconcile. The following questions are begging answers.

1. What time do civil servants close? Is 3.30pm too late to conduct government business?

2. Why will government officers in uniform sell 3 variants of the same ‘product’ while stating that a variant is fake? I got the expired licence from the same office.

3. Will I still not get the fake licence even if I go on with option 3?

4. Why should I go inside a government office and be afraid that I will be issued fake documents?

5. When and who will clean the rot in the FRSC (and the civil service generally)?

6. What is the essence of having agencies like SERVICOM, Consumer Protection Council, etc when brazen recklessness is the order of the day in government ministries, departments and agencies under their purview?

7. Is there still any professional, dedicated and patriotic public servant in this country as you can scarcely do anything without having to pay bribes in government offices?

8. Must Anti-Corruption agencies wait for a petition before they can act? Banks do not wait for customers to complain as the only basis to keep their sticky fingered staff on leash. Their internal control mechanism administers integrity tests every now and then. The Police used to do the same to control erring checking point officers. When will this resume and on a larger scale?

9. Why must the cost (process) of doing the right thing correctly be so high, thereby creating an incentive to cheat on the system?

10. For how long will the government lose revenue to these saboteurs?

The questions can go on and on. However, this is a clarion call to those in charge of our nation. We have had enough of this menace. The time to clean up our institutions and put our house in order is now. The time to end deaths on our highway caused by incompetent drivers who bought driving licence from officers of FRSC is now. The time to stop the discouragement of foreign investment and the stifling domestic businesses through unethical practices of government officials is now. The time to rise up as a nation and as a people in diligence, dignity and patriotism is now. Else ,

RomanceSex And Two Big Men by Imeobong(op): 8:22pm On May 22, 2011
If doomsday didn’t come on Saturday, that is little consolation to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dominique Strauss-Kahn. Both big men just found out that the wages of sexual sin is social death, maybe even physical death.

Schwarzenegger, the former governor of California, recently admitted that he fathered a now 13-year-old boy with one of his household aides. He just happened at the time to be married to Maria Shriver, a progeny of the legendary Kennedy family and former TV anchor.

Meanwhile, Strauss-Kahn, the Frenchman and then manager of the International Monetary Fund, was arrested for sexually assaulting a hotel maid, a Guinean woman. What the two have in common is that he is 62 and she is 32 and they both speak French.

Now, for their sexual adventures, two of the most powerful men in the world have fallen from grace. Strauss-Kahn was detained and released on bail to face trial and is reportedly on suicide watch. Meanwhile, Schwarzenegger has apologized profusely and taken himself out of circulation.

How are the mighty fallen — and in the hands of maids?

RomanceMy Virginity Is Up For Auction by Imeobong(op): 7:58pm On May 21, 2011
I’M trying to decide whether I’m going to sell my virginity.

Loads of blokes want me, so why should I give my body away for nothing?

I’m 25 and I have never had sex with a man.

All through college, I was only ever interested in relationships with girls.

In fact I thought I was a lesbian.

I had loads of affairs and slept with about 30 girls in all.

I enjoyed kissing, touching and caressing.

But I have never actually had full sex with anyone, so I’m still intact.

I’m still pure.

Just recently, however, I’ve started fancying men, too.

I’m living in a house with some great guys, plus my housemates have some brilliantly sexy and fanciable male friends.

I’m getting a lot of attention and I’m loving it.

A couple of guys I know are really into me.

One takes me out for meals and drinks.

I know he fancies me and wants more.

But what price my body?

I was looking on the internet the other night and read up on a couple of girls who’d had the same idea. I thought: “Why not me?”

An American, has got the bidding up to $2.5m.

What I couldn’t do with that!

My debts are hideous.

I had a gap year after school, did three years at uni and then travelled some more.

I always thought that my dad would bankroll me but his business has been hit hard by the recession and he hasn’t been able to help me with my loans and credit card bills for ages.

I can’t find a full-time job and am only earning bits and pieces doing cleaning, baby-sitting and dog walking.

My “indecent proposal” could be just the thing to pull me out of the doldrums.

I’ve mentioned it to a number of my mates with very mixed reactions.

A couple of my friends think it’s a hysterical idea and say: “Go for it,” but a couple more, including some guys, are absolutely disgusted.

Yet as far as I’m concerned we’re living in a material world and everything’s a commodity.

Why shouldn’t I profit from my special asset?

JANE SAYS: I must say that it all sounds very tempting and reasonable on paper.

You offer your virginity to the highest bidder and sit back while the offers roll in.

Six months down the line you finally decide it’s time and invite Mr Right, plus his fat cheque book, back to your place for one night of passion.

No strings, no names, no second chances.

So far, so simple.

But what about love?

What about feelings and repercussions?

You’re approaching this idea in a very cold and businesslike way.

The problem is that you aren’t a commodity, you’re a woman, a human being.

Your virginity isn’t something to be auctioned off and bid for.

Your debts may be high, but what about your safety and your self-respect?

I agree that you mustn’t give yourself away, but to put a price tag on love degrades the whole process.

You must do whatever you feel is right.

But please be careful and don’t do anything that you will come to regret later or feel you have to lie about. he left.

Celebrities‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage Dies In A Car Crash by Imeobong(op): 8:41pm On May 20, 2011
"Macho Man" Randy Savage, a professional wrestler who became a fan favorite thanks to his outlandish outfits and trademark catchphrase, died Friday in a car wreck, as first reported by TMZ.

The 58-year-old Savage reportedly suffered a heart attack while driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler in Tampa, Fla., and careened across lanes of oncoming traffic before colliding head-on with a tree. He died later at a local hospital.

Savage's wife Lynn, who was riding in the passenger seat, escaped with only minor injuries. Both passengers were wearing seatbelts and the police do not believe alcohol was a factor.

The World Wrestling Federation favorite from Ohio burst onto the scene in 1985 and quickly drew attention with his flamboyant outfits and "ooh yeah!" catchphrase. His marriage to Elizabeth Hulette, Ms. Elizabeth to fans, was one of the first high-profile wrestler/valet relationships. They divorced in 1992. Savage remarried last year.

He won two WWF championships in his career. His match against Ricky Steamboat in 1987's Wrestlemania III is considered one of the best WWF bouts ever. Savage won the title late that year, setting the stage for memorable battles with Hulk Hogan, who would eventually dethrone him as champion.

World Wrestling Entertainment released an official statement on Friday afternoon.

"WWE is saddened to learn of the passing of one of the greatest Superstars of his time, Randy Poffo, aka Randy "Macho Man" Savage.

Savage also appeared in memorable ads for Slim Jim and played a wrestler in the 2002 hit film "Spider-Man."

Respite came the way of the embattled traditional ruler of Ilowa, Oba Bukola Alli, on Wednesday when an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court granted him bail over an allegation that he violated a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (names withheld).

The NYSC member, who was in court when the case came up for mention, spotted a white long-sleeve shirt over a flowery black skirt.

She was accompanied to court by several NYSC members and legal representations from the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.

Alli, who spotted a black cap and a pink native dress, came to court with his wife.

The ruler had earlier in the day appeared before Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode, who transferred the case to the Chief Magistrate, Mr Adewunmi Makanjuola.

Transferring the case, Ijiyode said the case was better handled by the Chief Magistrate, whom he described as a senior and more experienced hand.

The traditional ruler was not in Ijiyode’s court when the case was called. This angered Ijiyode, who threatened to issue a bench warrant against the traditional ruler for lateness to court.

The traditional ruler’s legal team quickly sent word to him informing him that the case was being heard.

Alli rushed into the court just as the case was called the second time.

Ordering the ruler to remove his cap, Ijiyode said the law was no respecter of anybody.

He, thereafter, transferred the case to Makanjuola, who later heard the case afresh.

Prosecution counsel, Inspector Benjamin Akindoyin, opposed the bail application by Alli’s lead counsel, Mr. A. O. Lamuye.

Eight lawyers represented the alleged violation victim in court. They included Messrs Tijani Ibrahim, S. A. Banjo, J. U. Nayaba, Ekemini Udim, Paulson Juliet, Manik Yinusa, O. Debra, and Abdulmumin Khalib.

Makanjuola adjourned the case till August 11, 2011 for hearing.

The NYSC member had accused the ruler of despoiling her on March 25, 2011, at his Osogbo residence after she had a ride with him.

Addressing a news conference in March, the NYSC member had alleged that the ruler forcefully had sex with her without using a condom.
