The only REFERENDUM was in the South Cameroun decision to Join Cameroun and leave Nigeria.
In the Delineation of lands that determines North and South, the people were never consulted. The decision was made solely by those in the helm of affairs (The British and the Premiers). Only one of the Premiers (Awolowo) fought that Kwara (Kogi was part of Kwara at the time) should be ceded to the Western Region which Nnamdi Azikiwe and Ahmadu Bello stood against at the time. The British had the final say and thus the decision was in favor of the North (2 vs 1).
I bet you if a referendum (where people decide) were to be made today, states like Kwara, Kogi, BENUE, Plateau, Taraba, Nasarawa will vote against being called North.

Yorubas are at least 60% of Kwara, second largest population in Kogi. And they're indigenous to these states. You can mention any other states in the North. Kwara are Kogi have indigenous Yoruba populations.

I think we are third largest in Kogi behind Ebira and Igala people.
Yorubas travel a lot across the country (maybe not to the East Sha) and across the world (maybe we prefer Americas and Europe more than Asia Sha) but we don't make noise like our NOISY NEIGHBORS.

If Lagos alone is like 25 million how can the whole SW be 44 million?. SW is not less than 50 million in population. We are more than 50 million. The population of the SE according to JAMB registration, NIN registration and etc is less than that of Lagos state. They are like 80 percent of Lagos state.
What I believe is that the best kind of federal system is one whereby the revenue you can raise will determine your representation in government in an atmosphere where cost of living is even. Do your census by yourself and send report to the center. That is how it should be.

Then I don't believe the usual tale that the Igbo population all over Nigeria is higher than Yoruba. I believe if an actual census is taken the Yoruba will be higher. If statistics say Yoruba are more than double Igbo in the UK and the USA why not in Kano, Kaduna, Maiduguri or Jos if an actual census is taken?. In Ilesa here where I stay, one can't say Igbo is more than Hausa in population but they are more integrated with the community.

You are 100% correct.
I do tell people that the population of Hausa people in SW is more than that if Igbo people. But the issue is that Igbos have been integrated with inter tribal marriage with Yorubas which has made them part of us until recently. But an Hausa man will still go back to his town to bring his wife here.
Hausas are more than Igbos in South West but Igbos are more integrated due to Marriage and Education.
The fact is that there are more Yorubas in the North like Kwara, Kogi, Nigeria, Nasarawa, Kano and Kaduna than Igbos but Igbos dey always cause trouble which makes them popular and gives them the wrong impression that they are many.
