Literature / Re: An Event That Happened Between A Fictional Character And Me by ImperfectMe(m): 11:04am On Mar 02, 2017 |
The south western wind blew calmly occassionally blowing down
drizzles from the soaked canopy of trees so that one may think it
is a mini rain. This was after a heavy downpour. The sky, starless
and the ground wet and slippery.
I held a torchlight on my lefthand to aid in navigating my way
through the bush track while a file was in my right hand. The
community teachers' conference ended late. I felt a pang of
hunger as my stomach grumbled but I trudged on hoping to get
home soon. Aha! I recalled, I instinctively felt my left pocket but in
it was the three pronged cane made from animal hide. Perhaps to
keep naughty children at bay, but that was not what I was looking
for.
I felt the right pocked and in it was the 18cl unlabeled transparent
square bottle. I opened it and took a heavy gulp.
I felt a little warm and lighter. I heard the creaking of crikets and
the croaking of toads which dominated the entire sound of the
forest but there was this odd sound, I'm certain it is not the
nocturnal sound of bats or is it the effect of the spirit taking its toll
on me?
This sound was becoming clearer and I stopped abruptly, then I
heard it clearly, few feet behind me, I turned and shone the
already dimmed torchlight to the direction. It was the sobbing of a
little boy. He sat in a face down position on a rock.
I felt my three pronged koboko once again, these mischivious kids
must be up to something.
"Hey kid, what are you doing here in the middle of the night, run
along"
I barked
"Do you remember me"
He stuttered in between sobs
"How can I recognize you when I have not seen your face"
I replied, anger giving way to uncertainty as I drew closer to him.
"Oh, how you forget, so this is your plan, to make me suffer, to
live in pain, to be stigmatized"
Uncertainty gave way for confusion.
"Where, how manage, who did. . .when?" I asked a thousand
questions.
"Did you remember Kamara, who was raped, how she got
pregenant but refused to abort it due to social and religious
pressure. Did you remember how she gave birth but lost her life
in the process. So you have forgotten that the child she begat was
deformed and luckily an international NGO promised to undertake
a surgery on him abroad."
I stood transfixed, my mouth agape. Of course I remembered
"My creator, It's been 9 years, you wrote about moral dilemma,
about the law and religion but you cannot complete the novel.
Please go and complete the novel, you stopped when I was born,
you should continue where I had the surgery on my face and the
sequel when I had my revenge by when I was grown"
I recalled all what he said,
"But you exist only in my imagination, you are not real, what
surgery are you talking of, let me see your face"
I insisted.
He slowly raised his face
"He has a single bulging eye on his forehead, his elongated mouth
was unable to hide the sharp yellow canine dripping with a
mixture of blood and saliva and the other features were just folds
of slimy flesh"
That was exactly how I described the new born baby in the novel.
He stood up and took a step towards me displaying long claws on
both hands
"Go and complete the novel NOW or face the wrath of your
creation."
he growled in a muffeled bass voice
I felt the hair at the back of my neck rose My head swelled as the
torch fell from my hand. I ran blindly through the swampy forest,
occassionally falling and rising till I saw a ray of light. I rushed to
the direction of the light and alas, it was one of the vigilante. I took
a deep breath of relief as he hollared at me
"Teacher Dimkpa, what is chasing you, you look lost"
"Ah, I, I, saw a monster",
I managed to reply panting.
"Does it look like this?"
He raised the hurricane lamp to his face.
He has a single bulging eye on his forehead, his elongated mouth
was unable to hide the sharp yellow canine dripping with a
mixture of blood and saliva and the other features were just folds
of slimy flesh"
That was when I had my heart attack |

Politics / 1,000 Ways To Die by ImperfectMe(m): 6:18am On Dec 29, 2016 |
.. . . .germs, bacteria, illnesses, accidents, epidemics, natural disasters. . . .the way we survive these remain a miracle. That is why in everyday we live, WE ARE FACED WITH 1000 TO DIE!" I laugh I laugh not because of the silly and unavoidable ways folks end up in the show but because there are more than 1000 irrational ways folks die in my country. In everyday we live in Nigeria. . . We are faced with 10,000 ways to die when the elasticity of the suffering of the masses is high We are faced with 100,000 ways to die when we maintain a docile attitude to the state of the nation that we don't question policies made by our leaders We are faced with 1,000,000 ways to die when our decisions and relationships are based on religion, region, tribe and ethnic groups We are faced with 10,000,000 ways to die when we lack infrastructure that roads become deathtraps, that our mothers and children die en- mass due to inadequate health facilities, that our educational system is in shambles. We are faced with 100,000,000 ways to die when someone's take home pay can barely take him home, when a policymaker can only say "Recession is just another word", when the price of goods increase by over 150% within months, when folks are forced to join the already saturated labour market Finally, we are faced with 1,000,000,000 ways to die when corruption becomes the norm and the norm becomes corruption 1 Like 1 Share |

Business / "Defending The Naira" An Opinion by ImperfectMe(m): 11:07am On Nov 01, 2016 |
Never in the history of Nigeria has the masses been more keen on the state of the economy than in the past one year. The combination of Falling oil prices, depleting foreign reserve, embargo on some imported goods, persistent stagflation, the current 4-month recession, uncertainty and declining hope have formed the entwined Gordian knot leaving policy makers, economic teams, economic analysts and all stakeholders involved confused. Nevertheless what piqued my interest most is the fall and fall of the naira despite the government's effort to defend via floating exchange rate regime. Floating rate is often termed "self-correcting," as any differences in supply and demand will automatically be corrected in the market. For example, if demand for the dollar is high, its value will increase, thus making imported goods more expensive and stimulating demand for local goods and services. This in turn will generate more jobs, causing an auto-correction in the market. Hence it will improve the economy and lead to confidence of local manufacturers and investors. it will also lead to transparency and a controlled rate of inflation. However, five months later, this monetary policy led to a reverse effect due to the following reasons among others: Nigeria still imports refined petrol from countries with functional refineries and its price is denominated in dollars. Since fuel is very important, the government has fixed the price of petrol at N145 per litre using an exchange rate of about N280 to $1 and any increase in the exchange rate will not affect the price of petrol. So what the CBN has done is to take the biggest supply of dollars into the Nigerian economy and send it to petrol importers directly lest the price of petrol would also be increasing with other goods as the value of the naira falls. With this strategy, petrol takes the front seat in the demand for the dollar at the detriment of other products Moreover, with the dearth of a solid manufacturing base and the lack of dollars in banks, investors now turn to the saturated black market to look for dollars in order to fund the importation of capital machineries and raw materials. Also, since we lack industry, we have no other option but to import finished goods even at a very high price. This then lead to a higher rate of the dollar and the continuous fall of the naira as it elicit a chain reaction in the general rise of goods and services. To recap, the way out cannot be overemphasized as many analysts have already rendered great solutions like reviving the refineries, diversification of the economy, increase in capital expenditure, cut in unnecessary spendings, among others. However, the cardinal problem facing Nigeria is the inability to implement these objectives by the executive. BRACE YOURSELVES! |

Let the first digit be v the second w the third x the forth y the fifth z ~ v = w^2 w+x =10 y = w+1 x +z = 14 v+w+x+y+z=30 express all eqn in terms of w therefore: v=w^2 x=10-w y=w+1 z=14-(10-w) z=4+w and; w^2 + w + (10-w) + (4+w) = 30...open brackets w^2 +2w + 15 = 30 w^2 + 2w - 15 = 0...using the almighty formula: w=3 or -5...ignoring the negative value, subs w=3 in the each eqn to get v,x,y and z v=3^2=9 x=10-3=7 y=3+1=4 z=4+3=7 9+3+7+4+7=30 the pin is 93747 |

Religion / The Ten Commandments Of Rational Debate by ImperfectMe(m): 9:07pm On Dec 26, 2015 |
Learn the 10 Commandments of Rational Debate and use them against your enemy as you obliterate their argument point by point (rationally, of course) . Knowing your logical fallacies and how the brain can deceive even the brightest of minds is the first step towards winning an argument. These are 10 of the more popular logical fallacies, but there are many others you need to learn in order to master the art of debate… The 10 Commandments of Rational Debate 1. Though shall not attack the person’ character, but the argument itself. (“Ad hominem”) Example: Dave listens to Marilyn Manson, therefore his arguments against certain parts of religion are worthless. After all, would you trust someone who listens to that devil worshiper? 2. Though shall not misrepresent or exaggerate a person’s argument in order to make them easier to attack. (“Straw Man Fallacy”) Example: After Jimmy said that we should put more money into health and education, Steve responded by saying that he was surprised that Jimmy hates our country so much that he wants to leave it defenceless by cutting military spending. 3. Though shall not use small numbers to represent the whole. (“Hasty Generalization”) Example: Climate Change Deniers take a small sample set of data to demonstrate that the Earth is cooling, not warming. They do this by zooming in on 10 years of data, ignoring the trend that is present in the entire data set which spans a century. 4. Though shall not argue thy position by assuming one of its premises is true. (“Begging the Question”) Example: Sheldon: “God must exist.” Wilbert: “How do you know?” Sheldon: “Because the Bible says so.” Wilbert: “Why should I believe the Bible?” Sheldon: “Because the Bible was written by God.” Wilbert: “WTF?” Here, Sheldon is making the assumption that the Bible is true, therefore his premise – that God exists – is also true. 5. Though shall not claim that because something occurred before, but must be the cause. (“Post Hoc/False Cause”). This can also be read as “correlation does not imply causation”. Example: There were 3 murders in Dallas this week and on each day, it was raining. Therefore, murders occur on rainy days. 6. Though shall not reduce the argument down to only two possibilities when there is a clear middle ground. (“False Dichotomy”) Example: You’re either with me, or against me. Being neutral is not an option. 7. Though shall not argue that because of our ignorance, the claim must be true or false. (“Ad Ignorantiam”). Example: 95% of unidentified flying objects have been explained. 5% have not. Therefore, the 5% that are unexplained prove that aliens exist. 8. Though shall not lay the burn of proof onto him that is questioning the claim. (“Burden of Proof Reversal”). Example: Marcy claims she sees the ghosts of dead people, then challenges you to prove her wrong. The burden of proof is on Marcy, not you, since Marcy made the extraordinary claim. 9. Though shall not assume that “this” follows “that”, when “it” has no logical connection. (“Non Sequitur”). Similar, but the difference between the post hoc and non sequitur fallacies is that, whereas the post hoc fallacy is due to lack of a causal connection, in the non sequitur fallacy, the error is due to lack of a logical connection. Example: If you do not buy this Vitamin X supplements for your infant, you are neglecting your her. 10. Though shall not claim that because a premise is popular, therefore, it must be true. (“Bandwagon Fallacy”). Example: Just because a celebrity like Dr. Oz endorses a product, it doesn’t make it any more legitimate.
