For those who want to pursue a career in Oil and Gas, this is for you to have an idea of the requirements for B.Sc and MBA and the courses available.

The Oil and Gas Business School (OGBS), located in Port Harcourt, Nigeria with centres in Lagos, Abuja and Kano states is a specialized institution that offers its students internationally recognized Bachelors and Masters degree programs in Oil, Gas, Environment and Alternative Energy Management in conjunction with three international university partners - Business School, Netherlands [BSN], University of Nicosia, Cyprus [UNIC] and London School of Business and Finance [LSBF].
Students choose to study either in the BSN/OGBS jointly-taught classes in Port Harcourt, Lagos or Abuja, or online for UNIC or LSBF [supported and facilitated by OGBS], and they graduate in Amsterdam, Cyprus or in London, while receiving the internationally recognized degrees of the respective institutions.

COURSES AND REQUIREMENTS

B.Sc IN ENERGY, OIL & GAS MANAGEMENT - UNIVERSITY OF NICOSIA, CYPRUS [UNIC]

AIMS - The program provides students with overall knowledge relating to the field of energy, oil and gas management. It is designed to prepare future junior executives and business managers for the emerging oil & gas industry in Cyprus to be fully trained and competent in all aspects of management, economics, law and technology so that they may function effectively in this emerging industry.

OBJECTIVES - The proposed Bachelor degree is designed to have learning outcomes related to: knowledge, application of knowledge and understanding of the oil and gas technologies and the management of energy. The curriculum equips students with theoretical and practical knowledge, investigative and analytical skills, and the understanding of the business and management processes necessary to develop a career in the Oil & Gas industry. The program is has both an academic and market orientation. Thus, it is targeting students that intend to pursue post-graduate studies, as well as those that will enter the job market after graduation.

Language of Instruction English
Some courses in the first two years may also be offered in Greek

Specific Admission Requirements
The university’s General Admission Requirements, as specified in Part I: Information on the Institution, apply to this Programme.
Regular admission to the Bachelors Business programme requires a High School Leaving Certificate or its equivalent with an average grade of ‘C’. ‘A’ levels are considered to be a form of equivalent qualification.
In addition to a strong academic record, the student’s extracurricular involvement, leadership skills, and other relevant background information are taken into account.
English Language Proficiency
English is the language of instruction at the University of Nicosia. All students are required to take the English Placement Test (EPT) before registering for classes. The EPT may show that some students will need to register for non-credit English classes before being able to register for their academic programme of study.
Students with the following English qualifications will register directly for their academic programme of study:

Internet-based TOEFL 65 and above
IELTS 5.5 and above
Cambridge Exams [First Certificate] B and above
Cambridge Exams [Proficiency Certificate C and above

Michigan Examination of Competency in English Pass

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Even though there is no National Qualifications Framework in Cyprus, the University of Nicosia implements the Qualifications Framework as established within the framework of the Bologna process. Accumulation of credits is documented in the official institutional transcript of record and in the Diploma Supplement. Furthermore, full implementation of the graduation requirements (as indicated in PART II: Information on Degree Programmes) is required.

Key Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, the students should be able to:

1. Utilize knowledge and understanding on conventional business administration subjects such as general accounting, economics, management, marketing, business law and finance.

2. Exhibit such skills that are required on negotiation, operations management, oil & gas accounting and project management for the energy sector.

3. Critically evaluate basic science concepts and principles relating to physical geology, petroleum geology and energy technologies.

4. Utilize fundamental knowledge of oil & gas technologies, and apply safety and risk assessment techniques.

5. Display knowledge and understanding in the area of law relating to oil & gas, environment and the law of the seas.

6. Analyze and evaluate the economics of energy, oil & gas industry and the oil and gas markets.

7. Communicate clearly European energy and environmental policies as well as geopolitical security issues.

8. Critically analyze and evaluate current environmental topics, such as climate change, renewable resources and sustainability.

9. Manage one’s own learning and development, including time management and organizational skills in order to plan and implement a major independent project

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples
It is expected with almost certainty that the discovery of oil and gas in the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone will prompt the establishment of new companies and operations with an increasing number of job opportunities. These jobs are expected to be in three related categories:

1. Vocational workers such as mechanics, welders, plumbers, electricians specialized in the oil & gas and ancillary industries.
This need can best be satisfied with technical/vocational programs.

2. Business managers and executives with a thorough understanding of the oil & gas and ancillary industries who can function and perform superbly in this emerging industry.
This is the need which is being met with the present program.

3. More science-oriented technical staff who may be presently unemployed holders of degrees in chemistry, physics, mathematics, engineering, biology, geology etc. who will attend a post-graduate programme and turn them into high-level technical/engineering staff for the various operational technologies and processes.

This need can be met with a post-graduate degree programme in Oil and Gas Technology.
Access to Further Studies
Students obtaining the Bachelor of Science degree in Energy, Oil & Gas Management will have several opportunities for further studies:

1. A Master of Science (MSc) degree in Oil and Gas or Energy Technology.

2. Another related post-graduate degree such as the Master in Laws (LLM) degree with a related specialization. This Masters will not qualify them as lawyers but the knowledge gained will be substantial and very useful.

3. A professional qualification, such as the ACCA or the Institute of Marketing for specialized knowledge in a business functional area which will be an ideal combination with their previous undergraduate background.
4. An MBA in Oil and Gas/ Energy

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Course assessment usually comprises of a comprehensive final exam and continuous assessment. Continuous assessment can include amongst others, mid terms, projects, and class participation. Letter grades are calculated based on the weight of the final exam and the continuous assessment and the actual numerical marks obtained in these two assessment components.

Graduation Requirements

The student must complete 240 ECTS and all programme requirements. A minimum cumulative grade point average (CPA) of 2.0 is required. Thus, although a ‘D-‘ is a PASS grade, in order to achieve a CPA of 2.0 an average grade of ‘C’ is required.
