Goodluck Jonathan has reportedly condemned President Buhari's anti-corruption fight - The former president said he used technology to fight corruption during his regime - He alleged that his anti-corruption fight is more effective than President Buhari's Former president Jonathan has claimed that, contrary to popular opinions, his administration’s anti-corruption fight was more effective and produced better results than what is obtained under the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. In his new book titled My Transition Hours, the former president listed the methods his administration used to combat corruption in the country, The Nation reports. Jonathan posited that that corruption fight cannot be effectively fought and won by the executive arm alone, as it requires the involvement of other arms of government. He said that his administration deployed the use of technology to fight corruption. He also noted that his government supported the institutional development of secure systems and mechanisms to curb corruption in public places. He cited the Treasury Single Account (TSA), the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) and the Bank Verification Number (BVN) as examples of his administration’s technological tools designed to fight corruption. Jonathan added that the effective implementation of the various policies in the fight against corruption brought positive results as the country made its best improvement ever in Transparency International (IT) corruption perception index. “Immediately after the 2011 elections, my administration was repeatedly accused of being corrupt. Despite the blackmail, I remained committed to combating corruption in a systemic way, knowing it was endemic. We vigorously devised and implemented a thorough and strategic plan to fight corruption, using technology, albeit within the context of the rule of law and due process,” he reportedly wrote. Jonathan also criticised President Buhari’s manner of handling the anti-corruption fight. He claimed that his anti-corruption fight was more effective, citing the report of Transparency International’s (TI) Corruption Perception Index. He said Nigeria was ranked the 136th out of 175 nations surveyed; an improvement from the nation’s previous position of 144th in 2013, 139th in 2012 and 143rd in 2011. He added that the 2017 corruption perception index released in 2018 by TI placed Nigeria as number 148, a retrogression in which the nation went 12 places backward. More excerpts below: “No administration can either be entirely bad or perfect. Good governance is a process. Rather than media hype or arresting and parading suspected offenders on television, my strategy was to strengthen our public institutions and law enforcement agencies to prevent people from defrauding the system ab initio. “My administration developed and implemented the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), which was initiated by the Obasanjo Administration towards the end of his tenure. Through this technology, we arranged for federal, civil and public servants to register their biometrics as a condition for receiving their salaries and as a result we weeded out over fifty thousand ghost workers and saved N15 billion every month which was then equivalent to $100 million. “The effective implementation of these policies in 2014 brought positive results as Nigeria made its best improvement ever in Transparency International’s (TI) Corruption Perception Index. Nigeria was ranked the 136th out of 175 nations surveyed; an improvement from the nation’s previous position of 144th in 2013, 139th in 2012 and 143rd in 2011. It is important to note that despite the many sensational stories, dramatic arrests, seizures and accusations, many of them false, since I left office, the fact remains that Nigeria has not made any improvement on TI Corruption Perception Index since 2014. “In fact, the 2017 corruption perception index released in 2018 by TI placed Nigeria as number 148, a retrogression in which the nation went 12 places backward. In other words, Nigeria is more corrupt in 2017 than it was when I handed over to the Buhari administration in 2015. Some people may be misled with smoke and mirrors but the TI Corruption Perception Index relies on unsentimental facts and figures.” Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Jonathan revealed the alleged reasons why he lost the 2015 presidential election to President Buhari. The former president claimed that the mass defection of some former governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the then opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) cost him his bid to be re-elected for a second term in office. Jonathan who lost the 2015 presidential election with just over 2.5 million votes also reportedly blamed northern leaders who wanted power returned to their region for sabotaging his re-election bid. These claims are also reportedly contained in the new book about his tenure in office. Opps reverse is the case. I can understand but sometimes when we are frustrated about life we start digging for unnecessary issues where there is none. How stupidity combined with pride, ego and arrogance can destroy. Be the reason someone smiles. Be somebody who makes everybody feel like a somebody. Find joy in the ordinary. Choose kindness. |
yemiosinbajo:It’s better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you’re stupid than to open it and remove all doubt. Some people was born troublemaker and might as well earn a living at it. This thread is titled "Before you come to Ireland", not "display your immaturity" |

Fayose have been sacked as PDP leader. Speaking with reporters after the meeting, Senator Olujimi explained that Fayose was excluded from the meeting owing to the fact that he had just been released from detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged financial fraud. Stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State yesterday removed former Governor Ayo Fayose as the leader of the party in the state while affirming the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Biodun Olujimi, as PDP’s new leader in Ekiti State and Southwest region. Olujimi is the party’s highest ranking political office holder in the southwest geo-political zone. They asked for the immediate dissolution of the present State Working Committee (SWC) led by the state PDP Chairman, Mr. Gboyega Oguntuase, and demanded the constitution of a caretaker committee. These are part of the resolutions reached at Ekiti PDP Stakeholders Meeting held in Ado-Ekiti, the State capital, and attended by serving and former political office holders. Party chieftains who attended the meeting included Olujimi, former Deputy Governor, Dr. Sikiru Lawal; former Acting Governor, Mr. Olatunji Odeyemi; Ekiti Assembly Deputy Speaker, Mr. Segun Adewumi; former state PDP Chairman, Chief Bola Olu-Ojo; governorship aspirants, former National Assembly members, former State Assembly members, former local government chairmen and former party officers. Speaking with reporters after the meeting, Senator Olujimi explained that Fayose was excluded from the meeting owing to the fact that he had just been released from detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged financial fraud. “We knew what he might have passed through by staying in detention and we know it might not be easy for him to attend this meeting, so there is no faction at all in our party. My being appointed the Leader does not mean there is crisis. “The very day he left office was the day he was summoned by EFCC and we knew the rigour he had passed through. We are going to work together, I mean with former Governor Fayose. What we are doing is that we don’t want to allow his exit from office to mean the end of PDP in Ekiti. So, let me assure our supporters that we are on the same page with former Governor Fayose and other stakeholders. We are not factionalised and we shall work hard and ensure we win in next year’s election,” she said. In the communiqué read by PDP Stakeholders Protem Secretary and former House of Assembly member, Chief Bunmi Olugbade, they overturned the suspension of former State Secretary, Dr. Temitope Aluko, affirming him as a “bona fide member of the party.” The leaders also resolved to throw their weight behind the candidacy of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 presidential poll and other Ekiti candidates in the general elections.
