Christianity EtcRe: The Nature/character Of Temptation. by InesQor(m): 11:01pm On May 31, 2016
@PastorAIO

Here's my take. I think the problem with sin and temptation is "continuity" i.e. continuing in sin. Everyone will find themselves tempted (i.e. contemplating it) at some time or the other, and they will have opportunities to resist the temptation, like Jesus did, or succumb to it. "He was tempted in every way as we were, yet without sin" (Hebrews 4:15).

The Pharisees were smartazzes. They liked to find ways to bend the law and appear righteous, so Jesus was clarifying that when you are getting your high by being close enough to dwelling in sin without appearing to actually be sinning, then you are still in error.

In short, there is nothing wrong with having a hard-one when that hot tamale passes by. It is a natural biological reaction, although you may also learn to control it. What actually counts is how you dwell on the thoughts after the biological reaction in your boxers. If you think you can enjoy fantasizing about that woman with glorious bo.obs and an amazing bo.oty in your office - without any consequences, you're in error because the more you yield to temptation, the harder it will be to resist further temptation. It's a slippery slope.

Your thoughts?

Time loops always make a messy storyline... and rarely looks as cool in a book. I suspect this "Hold the door" theme will play out differently in the book, which would imply this was just a one off by D & D (classic though it was, textbook perfect in fact!). In summary, I don't expect any more of it cos D & D aren't playing too far off from the source material - and the SOURCE of the source material (GRRM) doesn't do cliches.
GRRM planned it this way, so I expect the Hold the Door thing to be exactly that way in the books.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/tv/2016/05/23/how-george-rr-martin-had-game-of-thrones-hold-the-door-moment-pl/
In fact, it's an idea that can definitely be traced at least three years back. Blogger Michael A Ventrella (who’s also an author) accidentally guessed Hodor’s origins back in 2013, when he had a chat with Martin in a lift at a convention. The conversation was largely a joke, as the pair had kept meeting in the same lift and Martin had made a throwaway comment about once wanting to be an elevator operator.

Then, according to Ventrella, they had this interaction:

Ventrella: I finally figured out why you have a character named “Hodor.”

Martin: Oh?

Ventrella: I was thinking about your comment about wanting to be an elevator operator. It’s clear to me now that “Hodor” is short for “Hold the door”.

Martin: (laughing) You don’t know how close to the truth you are!

So Bran, one of the few innocent Game of Thrones characters, was actually responsible for the psychological breakdown and death of his beloved friend – and George RR Martin had it planned it all along.

Then we can agree Hodor has achieved his own victory. No need blaming Bran
Of course Hodor served his purposes well. This does not mean Bran was not the cause of his mental instability and eventual death.

It is a known fact, some people were born to be stepping stones for those who are to achieve victory.
My problem with this statement is that everyone achieves victory, just in different things and at different times. We can argue about the relevance of victories attained on a "larger-than-life" scale, but everyone is some stepping stone and everyone achieves some victory.

He warged into past Hodor (willys) and not the other way round. That's what messed up Hodor's mind.
I doubt this, since conceptually you can only warge into an animal (or understandably, someone with a fractured mind like Hodor) but not someone like Wilys.

Try this.
If Bran hadn't tampered with Hodor's past (as was revealed in this episode), Hodor wouldn't have been able to save his life on a few occasions and serve as his 'wheelchair', enabling him to get to the weirwood and meet the 3-eyed Raven, and consequently fücking things up for the white walkers to attack the weirwood and create an opportunity for Bran to mess Hodor's mind up by getting him to 'Hold the Door'....
My eye dey turn me abeg..lol
Lmao grin grin grin

I should have known that this ability of Bran to warg into Hodor should have something to do with the entire plot.

Endy10:
While we're at it, I would really like to drop this.
Bran didn't warg into the younger Hodor first. Its was the action of warging into the 'present' Hodor that made the 'past' Hodor enter a trance and the whole 'hold the door' stuff came up
Thank you...Let the arguments begin
I don't think Bran could have warged into Wylis because Wylis was more human than "basic animal" before his mind got fractured, even though he was "slow". So, Bran destroyed Wylis mind in the future, thus turning him into Hodor in the past, and THAT is why he could warg into Hodor. If he hadn't fractured Wylis mind, he wouldn't have been able to warg into Hodor later. That's really sad.

Yes, it is indeed a time paradox, but Bran started the events that led to the loop when he went "green-seeing" unsupervised. Well, Hodor has successfully held the door (as intended), so the loop has now closed on itself.
We probably shouldn't assume that this will be the only time loop in the series. Maybe Bran has also caused other problems that we haven't traced yet.

This seems to make sense. But Willas was already Hodor before Bran was even born.
Yes, Bran didn't really exist when Wylis became Hodor, but since he warged into Young Wylis and Old Hodor at the same time, he connected the two of them across time.
TV/MoviesRe: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by InesQor(m): 6:18pm On May 23, 2016
Endy10:
I don't think its dumb. Its actually genius. Time itself is infinite, which means the past, present and future are currently happening at the same time. Bran being a warg, was able to tap into that blackhole, that connects every aspect of time together. Therefore actions in anytime (past, present, future) affect themselves. Bran warging into Hodor in the present while having a connection with the past created a time warp where the actions of the present affect the past, hence 'the past hodor' feeling the effects. According to the bloodraven, the ink of the past is set and dry, because of this, the action of the present affecting the past is so intensely that it literally broke 'past' Hodor's mind. Now due to the past being changed, it carries this effect to the future, which is the present(Hodor holding the door).

I felt a headache after typing this
Bran Stark caused everything. During his vision of the past, he warged into Wylis the giant stable-boy while connected to Hodor in the present. Wylis being a simple-minded person, his mind got shattered by experiencing the trauma of his own death as he held back the door. Forever loyal, he held the door against all odds even at the expense of his own life, and his dying words were "Hold the door" over and over again. As they tore him apart, he became paralyzed in the past.

Bran shouldn't have warged into Wylis, but it was the fastest way for him to get into the mind of the present day Hodor. BUT if Bran hadn't taken a vision from the Heart Tree without permission from the 3-eyed raven then he wouldn't have been stuck in the vision.

The only thing I see is that this was all inevitable, though Bran was foolish. Because if Bran hasdn't disobeyed and gone to look for a vision, Hodor would have never had to Hold the Door, and then Wylis wouldn't have been paralyzed - which means Wylis would have never become Hodor, which means Bran would have never gotten to the Heart Tree. I think it was all inevitable, like the Biblical Judas' betrayal of Jesus.

Exactly, the show and the books are quite different, I don't blame them though. Most book readers, me inclusive, are usually pissed off when they see books being torn to shreds in the films that adapt them.
Yeah I understand this Books vs Movies dichotomy, especially in genres like Fantasy and Adventure. I think since the books encourage powerful imagination in good readers, but movies have to "show and tell" so sometimes the movie makers add some other details to make things engaging for those that are not really interested in pushing their imagination that far (i.e. movies often command more suspension of disbelief than books do). huh For me, I try to enjoy the books and the movies separately without attempting a conflation of the two.

Well done! Nice synopsis.

Asimiju:
Game of thrones season 6
Beyond the wall, Bran Stark has been training with the Three-Eyed Raven, learning to use his powers to view the past. As part of his training, Bran witnesses visions of Ned and Benjen Stark sparring as children, and Ned and Howland Reed fighting at the Tower of Joy.
Having been captured by the khalasar of Khal Moro, Daenerys Targaryen is brought to Vaes Dothrak, to live out her days with the Dosh Khaleen. Jorah Mormont and Daario Naharis learn of her captivity and travel to Vaes Dothrak. When the khals gather to determine Daenerys' fate, she sets fire to the Temple of the Dosh Khaleen, killing the khals but emerging unscathed.
Jaime Lannister returns to King's Landing with Myrcella Baratheon's body. Tensions escalate between Tommen Baratheon, Cersei Lannister, and the Faith Militant and the High Sparrow, as the High Sparrow refuses to let Tommen visit Margaery in prison or Cersei attend Myrcella's funeral.
After Doran Martell receives word of Myrcella's death, Ellaria Sand kills him and seizes control of Dorne, with the Sand Snakes also killing his heir Trystane.

The Sons of the Harpy burn the Meereenese fleet, stranding Tyrion Lannister, Varys, and the rest of Daenerys' court in Meereen. Varys discovers that the Sons are financed by the masters of Astapor and Yunkai, who have reclaimed the cities from the freedmen, as well as the slavers of Volantis. Despite the misgivings of Missandei, Grey Worm, and the freedmen of Meereen, Tyrion meets with representatives of the slave cities to offer them seven years to transition from slaving.
Arya lives in the streets of Braavos as a blind beggar. She resumes her training with the Faceless Men and her vision is restored after she claims to be "No One" repeatedly.

Sansa Stark and Theon Greyjoy are rescued by Brienne of Tarth. While Theon returns to the Iron Islands, Sansa, Brienne, and Podrick Payne journey on to the Wall to seek Jon Snow's protection.

In the Vale, Littlefinger arrives at Runestone, claiming that Sansa was kidnapped by the Boltons, and convinces Lord Robin Arryn to send the Vale forces to war.

In the Iron Islands, Euron Greyjoy returns from exile to kill his brother, King Balon Greyjoy. Theon returns and offers to Yara to support her claim at the Kingsmoot.

In Winterfell, Ramsay Bolton's status as heir to the North is threatened by Sansa's escape, and after Walda Bolton gives birth to a son, Ramsay moves to secure his position by killing Roose Bolton, Walda, and his half-brother. Several powerful Northern lords arrive at Winterfell to pledge their loyalty, including Harald Karstark and Smalljon Umber, who presents Ramsay with Osha, Rickon Stark, and the severed head of Rickon's direwolf Shaggydog. Ramsay kills Osha and imprisons Rickon.

At the Wall, Edd gathers the Wildlings to imprison the mutineers who killed Jon Snow. Davos persuades Melisandre to attempt a resurrection of Jon, which is ultimately successful. After executing the mutineers, Jon leaves the Night's Watch, as his death released him from his vows. After Sansa arrives at the Wall, Jon initially refuses to fight the Boltons. However, after Ramsay sends a letter to Castle Black threatening to kill Jon and the Wildlings if Sansa is not returned, Jon decides to gather Stark loyalists to fight.

Jon Snow's corpse is found by Ser Davos, Edd and a few other loyalists; they take him inside and lock themselves behind a door with him. Thorne assumes command of the Watch. At Winterfell, Ramsay mourns for Myranda, while Sansa and Theon escape through the woods. Ramsay's men catch up with them, and are about to take them captive, when Brienne and Pod arrive, kill the men, and the former is accepted into Sansa's service. In King's Landing, Cersei receives Jaime, who arrives with Myrcella's body. Jaime promises Cersei they will take their revenge. Obara and Nymeria murder Trystane, on his way home from King's Landing, while in Sunspear, Doran and Areo Hotah are killed by Ellaria and Tyene, after the former learns of Myrcella's death. In Meereen, Tyrion and Varys find all the ships burning in the harbor. Jorah and Daario continue to track Daenerys, who is taken by the Dothraki to Khal Moro. In Braavos, Arya lives on the streets as a homeless person, where she is beaten by the waif. In her chamber, Melisandre removes her bejeweled necklace as she reveals her true appearance as an old crone, having seemingly lost faith in her god.

Walda gives birth to a baby boy, prompting Ramsay to murder Roose, Walda, and his new half-brother. Brienne reveals to Sansa that Arya is still alive. Theon requests to return to the Iron Islands, where his uncle Euron Greyjoy returns and murders King Balon Greyjoy. In Braavos, Arya is attacked by the Waif before Jaqen appears and orders her to follow him. Tyrion learns that Astapor and Yunkai have reverted to slavery, and releases Rhegal and Viserion from their chains. Bran visits Winterfell in a vision of the past, and sees Ned, Benjen, and Lyanna Stark, as well as a young Hodor. Jaime confronts the High Sparrow, while Tommen asks Cersei to teach him to be strong. Edd arrives with Tormund and the Wildlings and imprisons Thorne and the other mutineers. Davos persuades Melisandre to attempt to resurrect Jon Snow; though apparently unsuccessful, after the loyalists leave the room, Jon suddenly awakens.

Jon Snow reveals himself to the wildlings and executes Alliser Thorne, Olly and the other officers involved in his assassination for treason. He renounces his oath and puts Edd in charge of the Night's Watch. On a boat on their way to Oldtown, Sam states his intent to leave Gilly and her baby with his family at Horn Hill while he trains to be a maester. In a vision, Bran sees his father and Lord Howland Reed kill Ser Arthur Dayne at the Tower of Joy in Dorne. In Vaes Dothrak, Daenerys is brought before the Dosh Khaleen. Varys discovers the masters of Astapor, Yunkai, and Volantis have been financing the Sons of the Harpy. In King's Landing, Tommen converses with the High Sparrow while Jaime and Cersei interrupt a small council meeting, only to be shunned by Lord Kevan and the Tyrells. Arya trains rigorously with the Waif and her sight is returned to her once she has accepted herself as "no-one". Lord Umber asks Ramsay for help in protecting the North from the Wildlings, bringing Rickon Stark and Osha as a gift, along with the decapitated head of Shaggydog, Rickon's direwolf.

Sansa, Brienne and Podrick arrive at Castle Black as the former is reunited with Jon Snow. At Winterfell, Osha attempts to assassinate Ramsay, but is killed herself in the process. Ramsay sends a letter to Jon, threatening harm to Rickon if Sansa is not returned. Jon and Sansa resolve to march south and take back Winterfell. In Meereen, Tyrion meets with the slave masters of Slaver's Bay to offer peace if they will end slavery within seven years, an action that angers Missandei and Grey Worm. Littlefinger returns to the Vale to mobilize their soldiers against Ramsay Bolton. In King's Landing, Margarey is permitted to visit Loras while Cersei, Jamie, Kevan and Lady Olenna plan to stop the High Sparrow. Theon arrives at Pyke and explains to Yara that he will support her claim at the Kingsmoot. Daario and Jorah arrive at Vaes Dothrak, with the former learning about the latter's greyscale. Daenerys meets with the Khals and sets the temple of the Dosh Khaleen on fire. When she emerges unhurt, the Dothraki bow to her.

Especially now that GRRM is taking his time to write, and the TV series has to go on, we should expect a lot of things to happen that were not in the books.

GOODNESS GRACIOUS! Episode 4 of season 6 is the best episode of GOT I have seen in a LONG time!

I recorded this and saved it to see later, cos of a busy Sunday. Boy am I glad I didhuh

Some of my best moments that got me shrieking like a banshee:
(a) Jon Snow meeting Sansa
(b) Tyrion Lannister's management of the crises and suggestion of a peace truce
(c) Theon Grayjoy reuniting with his sister
(d) Daenerys Targaryen's EPIC coda finis

The only thing I wanted to see and didn't was some more news about Arya's progress in enlightenment. Can hardly wait for the next episode. This is LIT like the fire that consumed the Khal and his Khalasar. Lol
