Hehe it's okay, Tex. Re-reading it as "only non-fiction" makes even more sense now. kiss kiss

LarrySun: You're speaking from a scientist's point of view, I get it. But speaking from the Biblical, God created the birds. There, the chicken came first. I've always thought Science is a justification of God's existence...but your latest theory disputes that fact.
Even speaking from theology, what is there to say God didn't create eggs first, and they hatched? Everything the first chickens/birds needed were right there inside the egg. The egg, so to speak, was actually the first "parent" of the bird.

texanomaly: a caveat...

Results may vary...those who read only Fiction may not be as imaginative.
I keep hearing this from some people but I think the exact opposite is the case; especially with fantasy or science-fiction. That genre (soft sci-fi/hard sci-fi/fantasy) is one that immensely increases one's imaginative power. Same goes for mythology (if you classify it as fiction).

Another genre that boosts imagination is crime & detection. A third one is mystery.

However, romantic fiction (puke face) and most other variants of fiction may even dull your imagination with the surfeit of their quotidian events.

EDIT: My bad. Just realized you said "only" fiction.

PastorAIO: Nietzsche is class. It seems as if the guy had x-ray vision for seeing into the true motivations for what people say and do. If you read nietzsche too much you'll find yourself no longer believing anything that anyone says or any ideology whether religious or political.

A fascinating thing about him is the question, 'where did he get all these insights from'? The guy was a total recluse and he hardly interacted with people yet he knew human nature so well. He was probably the first modern psychologist.
Yes, his brand of philosophy is totally intriguing. He and Kierkegaard fascinate me with their views on existentialism.

Reading Nietzsche for me sometimes sounds like he probably second-guesses his own ideas. A healthy inquiring mind.

I find it conceivable that he may have studied himself under various circumstances and projected it to the general human experience. Thinking fluently in the third person is a talent, and Nietzsche seems to have nailed it in his day.

Technology MarketRe: Reasons To Quit Facebook - By Chris Chan by InesQor(m):
texanomaly: Hmmm...

I have been seriously considering deleting mine. It just seems too dangerous anymore.

Think about all we do online though. Things like online banking and online bill pay. We can check out multiple accounts; checking, savings, credit cards....and list goes on and on. We do almost everything online anymore. These sites say they are safe, but if a good hacker wants in, they will get in somehow. Then there are sites that sell your info.

Where do we draw the line? The world is becoming more and more technologically oriented. Even small children are using technology regularly.

How do we protect ourselves, when eventually every part of our lives that used to be on paper or done personally, will be viewed and/or typed on smaller and smaller screens.

How do we protect ourselves, in that reality, when anything can be taken and spread all over the World Wide Web for anyone to see, to alter, to steal and to exploit?

How do we protect ourselves from hackers and scammers that become more and more ingenious every day? It seems before long living "off the grid" will be impossible. Soon enough there will be no delete or off switch.

undecided
I quit FB a couple of years ago and I haven't looked back. Best decision, honestly.

It is called Tolerance. Maybe that's something that you're probably not familiar with. One of my colleagues is a hardcore atheist, and an artist by moonlight. It does not stop me from conversing with him or enjoying his work. Why should Cyanide and Happiness be any different from him? I don't find THIS cartoon funny, but does that mean I should reject every single work they produce?

How many Hollywood actors and actresses or other people in the entertainment industry do we reject their work just because they do not agree with our religious values ALL THE TIME? Did not Aristotle say 'It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it'?

Once again, guy try dey make sense.

TheBigUrban2: Another falsehood. You are now lying for Islam?

The muslim Golden age has always been OVERHYPED by muslims.

You do realise that the more civilized Chinese were pagan when Mohammed was just beginning his ministry?
You do realise that if we compare ancient christian contributions to science, it would dwarf the islamic golden age, despite christianity impeding science at times?
This is new information to me so I cannot sensibly discuss it right now. I will find time to check it out, and - maybe - revert to you.

TheBigUrban2: The bold is a lie. A VERY BIG LIE
Christianity is not about taking care about the earth's resources or vegetation.
-When the movie "Avatar" came out, christians in America (especially conservative christians) were calling the theme of "environmentalism" in the movie "paganism"
-Jesus cursed a fig tree
-There is no bible verse in the new testament that tells a christian it is his or her duty to tend to the earth/vegetation/natural resources. Neither does the new testament say that God is pleased when a christian goes "green"
-The old testament at best just gives man dominion over the earth
-Green christians or enviromentalist christians all lack scriptural backing for their green beliefs.
@TheBigUrban2 Glad to get your goat, then.

Christianity EtcRe: Comparing The 2014 Business Insider Good Country Index And A 2014 Religion Index by InesQor(op):
wiegraf: op, most of those countries are not xtian...

dunno where you get your data from, but countries like Finland are well known for their lack of concern for religion. well known. using mobile now so can't quote, but I'll be be back and we can compare them with numbers from those with good and proper xtian countries, ice those where well over 90 percent believe any day now some pissed off Jew will return to take his 'benign' sheeple on an intergalactic cruise. since you speak only of xtianity we can ignore truly religious governments, eg our good friends the Islamic states, and focus on xtian majorities

I also think you ignore or muddle up a few things that are essentially cultural, geography etc. some associated with xtianity , true (but not exlusively so mind) , others not. the age of enlightenment was not particularly aided by xtianity; this more or else a fact. thank your god for the xtian Galileo and his peers, mostly European and well influenced, crucially, by the Greek, who stuck to their guns and established the age of reason. we also cannot ignore, of course, inventions like the printing press, the spread of info as a result (look at the a Arab spring and the internet for instance, doesnt even compare in terms of scope or impact ultimately, of course) etc. else we'd still be in truly xtian nations. etc etc
Hi wiegraf

I never said they are Christian countries.

One report is about doing good, and the other is about religions (or irreligions) as claimed by residents in nations. I was just comparing two independent sources. Feel free to chuck it up as coincidence, but the links are clearly there, and I have not manipulated the sources.

I also never said anything about some - in your words - pissed off Jew or an integalactic cruise. You should know me better, I'm an offbeat Christian and don't share many mainstream Christian thoughts.

As far as I am concerned, Christianity has a lot more to do with
(a) taking good care of the planet's natural resources, flora and fauna (which is one way you can show that you respect God as you're his regent here on earth) and
(b) doing what is right by your fellow man (the second way, which is how you demonstrate you love God).
The rest of it involves qualifications of the two.

The last paragraph of your riposte does not seem to be relevant to this topic, or maybe I'm the one who's currently slow. It is well known that Islam-inclined nations did a lot more for science in medieval and ancient times than pagan ones, and Christian ones even impeded development.

May I remind us that this thread is about comparing TWO separate indices (that have NOTHING to do with one another) and trying to see why those with more people claiming to be Christian, seem to top the list of doing good. Whether or not they are actually flying spaghetti monster devotees - but claimed to be Christian in an independent survey - is an exercise for the reader.

PastorAIO: I hadn't heard of this melchizedek Malika Sadhaka connection before so I googled it. I was taken to some sites by a guy called Gene Matlock. To be honest, a lot of his stuff I find wacky. I mean really off the scale wacky, and I'm a guy that is into a lot of wacky stuff but for me it is totally off the richter scale. It seems that the guy just looks for words from different cultures that seem phonetically similar and then jumps to a conclusion based on that.
LOL! Thanks. I was reading a Hindi blog and saw that in passing, and thought to ask.

I checked now and found Matlock's book "The Open Secret of India, Israel and Mexico¿from Genesis to Revelations!". Oh my, I can't believe what I am seeing! grin cry cry

If, until now you are still unconvinced that Melchizedek was Lord Krishna, and that Jesus was an incarnation of Krishna (Melchizedek) as Paul himself explained, I have no other recourse but to give you solid proof directly from the mouths of the Hindus themselves! Will this put an end to the question? It is a verifiable fact that one of the title of Krishna was Sadhaka. Being a king, Krishna would have been addressed as Malika (King) Sadhaka.

If you are still doubtful, go to the web and type in Krishna Sadhaka. You'll instantly get all the proof you'll ever need. Actually I could have proven this in the first paragraph of the chapter, but I wanted a real, honest-to-goodness chapter with every possible proof. Now you have it!
grin Am I dreaming or did this author just ask us to go on the "web" to "google" for proof of his claim, and then says THAT is the proof?
