As children growing up, we would always look forward to the December holidays. At that time, grandma would furnish us with her delicious meal thats were well spiced.

It is reported by a research company called Euromonitor that the juice and beverages sector in Nigeria is Worth N938 billion this was as of 2016 ( flavored water is a segment of the beverages industry).
There is a high demand for flavored water depending on what you have as content, it is a market that is not as competitive as bottled water , this segment of the beverages industry, is still in its teething stage .This can be seem as a opportunity for early birds to take a sizeable market share before the hawks arrive.
To be innovative in the flavored market is to think seriously outside the box, there are ample opportunities in this segment that can be exploited. As a matter of fact there are innovative products that can decide a lifestyle for it users and this will go a long way to a create a huge market .
If you create a product that is centered on lemon and water , for example, this product will be view as a flavored water,as an antioxidant and it refresh the body . The central bank of Nigeria recently made a report that it want to restrains importers of milk from interbank foreign exchange. What this means is that C.B.N will restricts the sale of forex to the importers of Milk.
This purported moves has some economic benefit and ofcourse it also carry with it some setback. One of the economic benefits is that the dairy industry will grow. This will be translated into growth in the value chain that drives the dairy industry and through the multiple effect boost the economy.
Nigeria consumes 1.7 million tonnes of Milk yearly but produces 34 percent of that value, there is a gap of 1 million tonnes of Milk according to C.B.N. The forex allocation for milk is 1.5 billion dollars yearly.
One of the many opportunities I see in this is the ample room for an entrepreneur to look at producing milk from other sources apart from cow. These sources are non- dairy milk that are extracted from plant sourced such as nuts, seeds, grains even from goats. These sources have an advantage over cow milk in several ways namely;

3. Prevent Cancer
4. Alleviate postmenopausal syndrome
5. It acts as an antioxidant.

Agriculture plays a big role in economic development of any country, as a matter of fact, its role can’t be overemphasized. Before now agriculture was left in the garbage can in Nigeria. Stakeholders were more concern about crude oil, so thanks to the oil prices fluctuation and Nigerian recession. Agriculture is becoming trendy now and stakeholders are looking for ways to bring in life to the once abandon sector.
If Agriculture is going to feed Nigeria, it should be more like manufacturing. We are supposed to drive it along the value chain process, we should even meet up the world standard of climate smart agriculture, that is piloting innovation in the agricultural value chain that improves productivity and reduces climate impact( don’t worry we would get there, don’t ask me when.)
For the past two years, I have noticed a trend that is alarming and there are also business opportunities that entrepreneurs and investors can take advantage of. The supply of grains either to industrial users or household has been on the decrease, while demand has been on the increase. It is interesting to note that in 2014, grains has a price surge of 50-80 % after three months of harvest but in 2015 it went 100% increase four months after harvest and 300% after seven months.
Join me in mathematics , In 2015, November corn(maize) was selling for N4000,for a bag of 100kg but increase to N12,000 in March 2016 and sold for N15,000 in May/June before new stock came out. So it mean if you had bought 100bags of Corn for N400,000 in November 2015 and sold in May for N15,000 a bag that would be N1,500,000 a gross gain of N1,100,000 in six months( can your fixed deposit give you that). This is not limit to corn(maize) we are only using it as a case study other commodities also have a similar trend.
There are several opportunities in this, one can look at it from the perspective of farming, or from the angle of warehousing better still from side of value chain activities.
