BOmum: Ok i promised to share for those that dread Houston Poe just to give you another view...Its not always as nasty as we all think..Atleast not all the time though....
Flew Turkish from Abuja at 35 weeks, I was sent to port health to get a fit to fly.I paid 2000 naira for the port-health report. The trip from Abuja to Turkey was ok..I wasn't so stressed.Had a 5 hour layover at Istanbul and i practically just got a waiting bench and slept most of the time.At check in at Istanbul for the Houston leg of the trip, I wasn't asked anything..no CBP officer asked me anything..I just boarded like every other person.the trip to Houston was long i must say...i watched movies, slept, woke up and we were still on air.....We finally arrived and it was just us and another united flight so the cue at the customs clearance wasn't so much.I wasn't given any preferential treatment, i had to wait my turn and here it goes......
CBP Officer: Hello where are you coming from
me: Nigeria
CBP Officer: What are you here for
Me: Medicals and vacation
CBP officer: What medicals
Me: I am here to have my baby
CBP officer: Let me have your custom declaration form please (He already had the passport)
Me: Hands over form
CBP Officer: I see you declared money above 10,000 dollars and you have got some food
Me: Yes
CBP Officer: Why so much money for this trip
Me: I mentioned earlier that i am here for medicals sir
CBP Officer: Yes that is right, when next you are coming to the US make sure you have all your receipts from your medical payments.I might have to send you to go check your bags and fill out the currency declaration form (Beckons to another officer)
Me: Ok..Follows officer....
My bags were scanned and only my indomie was seized (I had lots of stuff like beans, garri, custard, cereal, milk, udah, ogiri, egusi, ogbono, crayfish, dryfish, dried ugu leaves etc)
I moved on to fill the declaration form for my money and off i zoomed with uber to my destination
I spent less than 5 mins with the CBP officer ( I carried all my documents from hospital fees to paid accommodation and he didint even ask to see any documents at all)
I spent about 20 mins at the bags place because they took some time getting all my bags but once they got it..it was scanned in a few minutes and i was gone
In all asides the long flight from Istanbul to Houston, it was a pretty regular trip and experience.
NB: I got my visa last year for a vacation which i used for a 3 weeks vacation at that time and now i am using for childbirth
So there goes my experience...I am waiting for my first appointment with Xydas while i spend the time doing some baby shopping
I hope i didn't miss anything out.... Please can I get your quote from HNMC. Thanks I sent you a pm |

p0 Mrsdoctor007: Long Post!!!
Thanks to everyone who has made this forum educative, I discovered this forum 1 week ago, and I have learnt a lot, read thru from page 1. I have seen my wrongs and I have started making remedies to right them.
I need help with advise for the rest. Thanks in anticipation
I got my 1st us visa in 2013 b1b2 travelled twice with it before it expires. I renewed via Dropbox in 2015, 2 weeks to my wedding thought I will go on honey moon with my husband but we decided to go to Dubai. In March I got pregnant we decided to have our in the US I didn't send any letter of intent as I only found out abt it on this forum abt a week ago. My POE was fine, was only told that I had to keep all my receipt. I had my LO in Maryland Bill was high paid 70% cash and was out on a payment plan. Was sending my brother who is in d US the monthly money but he stopped paying so I haven't completed my payment plan. Though after discovering this forum I'm making arrangements to sort it all out this week and get my zero balance and letter of non indebtedness as I learnt from this forum.
I tried to renew my visa again via Dropbox but was given a 221g form saying I should come for interview which is abt 3 weeks away. I applied again for b1b2 for vacation but I'm abt 3months pregnant and said my sponsor is my father though I intend to take my personal bank statement with me.
Which made me worried and I need advise though I have learnt a lot from this forum.
1. Now that I just learnt it's not advisable to lie how do I change the b1b2 visa to just b2 or do I stick with vacation and tell VO that am also pregnant and will later go for childbirth even though I have no plans to travel until time of delivery
2. Do I need to get a doctor/hospital correspondence even though I will be 4 months at time of interview and my form says in going on vacation?
3. Is it right for my father to sponsor my trip when I'm married and not my husband? I haven't done change of name on my passport just wanted it to expire before I change my name.
4. Will the fact that I settled my bills and get zero balance 3 weeks to my interview affect me?. how much do you owe and for how long |

mommatriplets: congratulations!!!, just wondering, i be jjc o.. have noticed that people just say use this better healthcare yarn as excuse, even when you/cbp/devil/everybody/baby in the womb/Your MAKER/ knows you are coming to birth for the citizenship, why not just state it, its legal naah.
must be pretty annoying to the poe officials to be brazenly lying in thier face, n the lie isnt even necessary -- pls correct me if am wrong Please ensure when u go tell em for citizenship. Lol please relate your experience here too. |

Swisstk: Hello everyone. You all have been tremendously helpful. I'm a first timer on NL and I have loads of questions. I'm Houston bound in January because from my little research its one of the affordable states.
1. Which airline will u recommend for this trip. 2. When is the best time to get tickets for d trip in January ( now or end of the yr) 3. Is it safe to travel @36wks and return we baby is 2wks 4. What accommodation options are available around Houston Northwest medical center
More questions loading. Thank u for ur response. Book ya flight during black Friday it's sheeper. 36 wks is close ensure u confirm from the intended airline what they allow. My LO came back 3wks. |
