Police Lied, Zamfara Bandits Overpowered, Killed Security Operatives – Nigerian Civil Defence Corps However, narrating what happened, the NSCDC said the bandits, numbering about 150 and with “heavy weaponry”, had “engaged operatives in exchange of fire.” The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has disputed the Zamfara State Police Command’s claim that its joint security team overpowered some bandits who attacked security operatives in the state. The spokesperson for the police command, Muhammad Shehu, had said that on October 28, a joint police and civil defence team deployed along Kaura Namoda–Shinkafi Road were ambushed by suspected bandits who came in a large number. According to the police, which had sought to downplay the bandits’ attack, after several hours of engaging the bandits in a gun duel, “some of the assailants were neutralised while others escaped with possible gunshot injuries.” However, narrating what happened, the NSCDC said the bandits, numbering about 150 and with “heavy weaponry”, had “engaged operatives in exchange of fire.” NSCDC spokesperson, Ikhor Oche, noted in the statement that the team of the joint security forces was overpowered even after it got reinforcement. “All the same, one of the NSCDC personnel, a driver, was killed while other officers had to run for cover. The bandits set the vehicle ablaze along with corpse of the personnel, and while returning to Shinkafi, one personnel also got missing. “During NSCDC’s search, the missing person was found dead and right now his corpse is on its way to Maru, his hometown. This brings to two, the number of NSCDC personnel that died in the attack. I cannot ascertain the extent of what happened to men of the other security agency, but it equally recorded losses,” the spokesperson stated. SaharaReporters had on Friday reported that bandits killed at least 20 operatives of the Nigerian security agencies in the Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State after which the bandits set their corpses on fire. The security operatives had been sent to a village where bandits had been ravaging for a long time without any security stoppage. The bandits had reportedly ambushed the security operatives, killed a score of them and set the corpses on fire in the early hours of Friday. Among the victims was Alhaji Shehu Mallami, a resident of the community. When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Aminu Mary, had confirmed the attack, saying that the state commandant of the corps already left to the scene to ascertain what really happened. http://saharareporters.com/2021/10/30/police-lied-zamfara-bandits-overpowered-killed-security-operatives-%E2%80%93-nigerian-civil

Justice Odili’s family residence at lmo Rivers Street in Maitama, Abuja, was said to have been raided by fully armed plain-clothed security men for undisclosed reasons at about 5pm on Friday, October 29. However, security operatives guarding the house were said to have resisted the takeover of the house without a court order or instructions from above. In the confrontations, the unidentified security operatives were said to have insisted on staying around the house, waiting for the occupants to surrender so they could take over the house. While Odili had yet to be seen or to make a public statement, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, claimed it did not carry out any operation in Justice Odili’s Home SaharaReporters had on Friday reported that Mary is wife of Peter Odili, a former governor of Rivers State, who is currently on the EFCC watchlist. Gunshots as security agents repel attack on Edo prison Adeyinka Adedipe, Benin 28 October 2021 Kindly share this story: Prison – Correctional facility An uprising at one of the Edo correctional facilities known as White House along Sapele Road, on Thursday, caused panic in Benin as gunshots were heard around Ring Road and the Government Reserved Area. Commuters, drivers, passersby, and business owners around the prison scampered for safety when they heard gunshots at about 1:30 pm. Many had thought it was a jailbreak and they took to their heels not wanting to be caught in the crossfire. A woman, who works in a business centre close to the correctional centre and identified herself as Jane stated that she started hearing gunshots at about 1:30 pm. She stated that she quickly locked her store not to get caught in any crossfire. “I started noticing that something was going wrong in the prison with noise coming out from the facility. We thought it was a small issue until men of the facility started shooting and everyone close by taking to their heels,” she added. Another source said he felt the prisoner must have attempted to break jail just like they did during the #EndSARS protest last year. A source simply said, “There was an attempted jail break today at the Benin prison, leading to serious shooting. Soldiers and policemen have been drafted to the area”. In a press statement by Command Public Relations Officer, Aminu Sulaiman, titled ‘Disturbance at Benin Custodial Centre’, the state Controller of Corrections, Felix Lawrence commended sister security outfits for giving his men back up during the disturbance. The statement read, “At about 12:30 pm, some awaiting trial inmates especially the recaptured escapees started protest which led to a confrontation between them and the convicted inmates. Reinforcement was immediately mobilized from the state headquarters to enforce law and order. “The situation has been completely controlled and the Custodial Centre is calm. There was no escape of any inmates or death. “Sister security agencies have shown solidarity by drafting their men around the outer perimeter fence to compliment Correctional Service Armed Squad personnel to ensure total security of the custodial Centre. “The Controller of Corrections Felix Lawrence wishes to assure the general public that they should go about their normal business without any fear. Meanwhile, investigation into the incident has been instituted by the Controller to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the disturbance,” the statement added. During the EndSARS riots, the Sapele Road Correctional Centre as well as the Oko, Airport Road Centre, were compromised, with thousands of inmates escaping. https://punchng.com/gunshots-as-security-agents-repel-attack-on-edo-prison/

NTA laments, says free coverage for MDAs, a burden The management of the Nigerian Television Authority has lamented that Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government often invite the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, in order to get live broadcast of their events by the national television network. NTA’s Director-General, Yakubu Mohammed, while appearing before the House of Representatives’ Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values for 2022 budget defence in Abuja on Tuesday, said such free coverage has become a burden on the station. Mohammed said, “We are always talking about our problems and when we do, the committee gives us a shoulder on which to lean on, but the problems persist. “Among these problems are inadequate funding, non-completion of NTA’s permanent site, dilapidated buildings and equipment all over the country and the digitisation funding which the minister (Lai Mohammed) has spoken about yesterday. “We are also facing the problem of free coverage. Most people think because it is a Federal Government’s establishment, they can just get this for free, forgetting that we do have our charges — we do have our cost. Some of the services we provide attract cost and then, we have competition and all other issues. The competition for example, not every part of NTA is digitalised. For example, you go out with a digital camera, then you bring in pictures; in the process of transmission, you transmit using analogue equipment. At the end of the day, the pictures are not as bright as they should be.” According to the DG, NTA is capable of making enough money to sustain itself if it is left alone and not seen as a government’s station that is there for everybody to come and enjoy free services. Mohammed added, “Everybody thinks that NTA is a government establishment — it belongs to all of us. So, we go to NTA, get the services offered by NTA for free. I did mention that our services attract a cost. For example, for every large coverage I do, I pay Intelsat in hard currency. “Right now on my desk, I have a letter from a government agency that I am sure has a budget for media publicity, asking me to give them four hours of live coverage free of charge plus 9 o’clock news free announcement on the network news. “What ministries, agencies and parastatals of government do is that they invite the minister (Lai Mohammed) to be the guest of honour at an event because they know that once the minister is there, NTA must cover. So, these are the kind of things that prevent us from making money.” https://punchng.com/nta-laments-says-free-coverage-for-mdas-a-burden/

Gunmen Abduct 8 People In Ekiti, Demand N50m Ransom A week after four people were kidnapped at Ayebode, in the Ikole Local Government Area (LGA) of Ekiti State, eight victims were allegedly kidnapped on Tuesday at Itapaji Ekiti of the same LGA. Daily Trust gathered that the kidnappers have contacted the family of victims on Wednesday and demanded a sum of N50 million as ransom. An eyewitness revealed to newsmen in Ado Ekiti, on Wednesday, that the gunmen had besieged a house located in the town around 9.30pm, shot sporadically into the air and made away with eight occupants of the building. The gunshots that lasted for over one hour terrified the residents of the community, the source added. The source pointed out that the owner of the building was preparing for his mother’s burial and the preparations were on top gear when the gunmen struck. “The kidnappers, seven, came around 9.30pm with guns and surrounded the building. They fired gunshots sporadically. “As the occupants of the house were coming out, they were grabbed and made to lie face down. “They were later taken away into the bush. They were 14 initially, but six of them escaped into the bush,” the source narrated. He added: “Early today (Wednesday), one of the family members received a call from the abductors and demanded a ransom of N50m.” The source added that the lack of police stations in Itapaji-Ayebode and Irele-Oke Ako axes was responsible for increasing cases of kidnapping in the area, saying the nearest police station is in Ikole Ekiti, which is over 40 minutes drive to the troubled spots. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident. Abutu said: “The Command is working on that. “Already, special police operatives, as well as the JTF, have been deployed in that axis to ensure they rescue the victims and for possible arrest of the culprits” https://dailytrust.com/gunmen-abduct-8-people-in-ekiti-demand-n50m-ransom

How Over 200 Soldiers, Lawless DSS Operatives Killed Unarmed People In Igboho’s House, Stole Gold, Money, Others Igboho’s house was raided by the DSS on July 1, killing two of his associates and arresting many others. Onaolapo Ademola, one of the 12 associates of secessionist leader, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho has narrated how operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) invaded Igboho’s house and killed two people. Igboho’s house was raided by the DSS on July 1, killing two of his associates and arresting many others. Ademola, who told Sunday Punch he is the Director of Sunday Adeyemo Foundation, accused the DSS of killing people in cold blood during the raid. He was one of those arrested by the DSS and later released. Recalling the raid on Igboho’s residence in the Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State, Ademola said, “We woke up to find ourselves in that mess; it was a misuse of power by the present government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I’ve been minding my speech about the event of that day because a lot of us are still suffering from psychological trauma because what happened that day alone can take one’s life. “My house was not far from Chief Sunday Igboho’s house and being a father to me, I have access to him and he has to me. He did call to see me anytime to run errands for him. I was in my personal house around 12am but I had a message to pass across to him which I could not deliver by phone. “I moved from my house to his residence at exactly 12am and met with him. We discussed till around 1am and were outside with some of our people till around 1:30am. “In his house, I have a chalet he allocated to me as one of his associates. At exactly 1:30am, he moved into his building, others retreated into their own apartments and I also moved into my own. But at exactly 1:35am, I started hearing gunshots and I wondered what was happening. My chalet is directly facing the main gate and I opened the window to peep to see what was happening outside. To my greatest shock, I couldn’t see anybody but I heard sporadic gunshots. Whenever I heard, ‘Fire,’ they would shoot at the building. “As a Muslim, I started reciting different verses of the Quran believing it might be the end of my life. While still peeping through the window, I could see two DSS personnel inside the house – they came through the fence because they could not force their way in through the main gate from outside. So, some of them jumped the fence and came in to open the gate for the others. “When they opened the gate, I saw that they were dressed in black and were putting on helmets. They were dressed like they were on a battleground, facing Boko Haram. I heard them calling themselves, ‘Come in two-two!’ I immediately woke the boy that was with me and told him that we needed to start preparing for our burial because there was no way to escape. “They were more than 100 personnel inside the building comprising the DSS and soldiers. They shot sporadically everywhere. When they got to any chalet or any of the rooms, they fired directly. I started praying and I’m thankful that God saved my life. “The shooting continued for three hours. When they got to my chalet, I opened the door for them. They marched on my head on the floor. I had collected around N300,000 from Chief (Sunday Igboho), which I wanted to use to buy something the following morning. One of the soldiers picked up the money. “They demanded my gun and I told them, ‘Do I look like someone who can shoot? Do I look like someone who can operate a gun?’ They marched my head still and I was handcuffed. They then took me to the gate to lie down there with others. “At the gate, to my greatest shock, I saw one of my very good brothers, Saheed Oladams (Adogan), the Chief Executive Officer of Oladams Motors in Osogbo, in a pool of blood. Likewise Alfa. We were still together around 12:30am but the two of them were already gunned down. “After we had been handcuffed, and laid on the floor, they (security operatives) started destroying the vehicles in the compound, threatening to burn down the house and saying all sorts of things. They also made a roll call of the people in the house. That was what happened. But to the glory of God, here we are today.” The two persons killed were identified as Saheed Adisa, popularly called Adogan and Igboho’s maternal uncle known as Alfa. Denying the claim made by the DSS that the two people killed were armed and had engaged operatives in a gun duel for one hour, Ademola said there was no retaliation by anyone in Igboho’s house. “Nothing of such (happened); nobody retaliated, nobody exchanged gunshots with them. You know the Nigerian military if anybody had retaliated by exchanging gunshots, you know what would have happened,” he said. “Those they were killed didn’t exchange gunshots with them (security agents). Alfa was an innocent man. He was killed in the waiting room of Chief Sunday Igboho while he was praying. He was a cleric and he could not see; he was blind. On getting to the waiting room, they (security operatives) just fired straight and gunned him down. Also, Adogan did not, in any way, exchange gunshots with them. He was shot in the bathroom where he was hiding.” Ademola also noted that the DSS initially arrested 22 people; 12 males and 10 females but later released some of them at its Ekiti office. “They freed nine of the ladies, after asking everyone, ‘Who is Lady K?’ So, they only took Lady K with the men to Abuja. Out of the 12 men, one of us was a police officer, an escort of Adogan. The officer was not paraded in Abuja. Instead, 12 of us, including Lady K, were paraded,” he said. He also recalled that the DSS officials stole from Igboho’s house, saying, “They took gold, money, our phones which are still with them. They went away with the CCTV, and one of the cats after killing about four or five cats. They went away with a big MP3; they went away with a lot of things. They went away with the cat, believing Chief Sunday Igboho turned to the cat.” According to him Igboho was at home when the DSS operatives raided his house but somehow managed to escape. He said, “Yes, he was at home. The DSS saw him; they can’t deny that because that night, they came with three herbalists. After shooting at so many corners of the house, all of a sudden they couldn’t see him again, so they believed he was hiding, not knowing he was in the building. Chief Igboho is not an ordinary man; he is the Akoni Oodua of Yorubaland and a real son of Oduduwa. “When the DSS could not find him, they brought in their herbalists and they started chanting incantations wanting him to come back. The herbalists later told the DSS that Baba (Igboho) had turned to a cat. That was when they started killing the cats. I believe they know he has metaphysical powers, that was why they came in with herbalists to get him at all costs but God was not ready to put his life in the hands of the DSS.” He noted that the herbalists that accompanied the DSS operatives to Igboho’s house “wore ordinary clothes, not traditional attire but when the DSS could not find Chief Sunday Igboho, they called them in and the herbalists started chanting incantations”. “The DSS operatives were more than 20 and most of them were from Oyo while the soldiers were more than 200. I could count about 87 vehicles when they were taking us away. They came with ambulances too, believing they were going to a war zone,” he added. Ademola and some others who were arrested spent 62 days in the custody of the DSS. He narrated his experience there, saying, “It was part of the sacrifice, no going back. It was dehumanising to be in custody without seeing the sun or the moon for months, being maltreated, given food that a dog could not eat, sleeping on a bare floor for 62 days, eating in the same place where I defecated, the same place where I urinated, the same place where I observed my prayers. “We were given N20 Cowbell (milk) and a loaf of bread of less than N50 to eat per day. There was no access to lawyers, no access to family members. It was hell. It was a terrible experience that I do not wish for even my enemy. “They asked me personal questions and my purpose of being in Igboho’s house. They also asked for my bank accounts, Facebook name, my village address, they asked me a lot of questions. They asked me to tell them how long I had known Chief Sunday Igboho and I told them. I cannot disown him, no matter the situation. “The first place we were kept for the first two days in the DSS custody was an underground cell where if anything happened, we couldn’t know. From there we graduated to another cell where we had access to Fulani, Hausa detainees who don’t understand the English language. Some of them were suspected bandits and Boko Haram members. There were others who were not Hausa but suspected IPOB members.” He added, “We, the Igboho 12, were scattered into various cells. I was detained with Kanuri and Hausa suspects. We didn’t understand our individual languages. All that bound us together was Muslim solat. We couldn’t communicate. It was hell. It got to a time that those of us arrested in Chief Igboho’s house couldn’t sleep at night, we prayed all through; the Muslims observed Tahjud, midnight prayers, while the Christians held vigils. “We prayed by raising our voices, both Christians and Muslims. We shouted to communicate when it was time for prayers. Of course, we recognised our different voices.” http://saharareporters.com/2021/10/24/how-over-200-soldiers-lawless-dss-operatives-killed-unarmed-people-igboho%E2%80%99s-house-stole

How Fulani Bandits Coordinated Attacks On Oyo Correctional Facility To Free Warlord Wakili, Other Criminal Herdsmen In Detention Top prison officials told SaharaReporters on Saturday that the gunmen carried out the attack to free the detained notorious Fulani warlord, Iskilu Wakili and other criminal Fulani herdsmen in the facility. The attack on the Abolongo correctional facility, Oyo town in Oyo State was planned and carried out by Fulani gunmen, believed also to be invading bandits, SaharaReporters has learnt. Top prison officials told SaharaReporters on Saturday that the gunmen carried out the attack to free the detained notorious Fulani warlord, Iskilu Wakili and other criminal Fulani herdsmen in the facility. SaharaReporters, however, reported that hundreds of inmates used the opportunity of the attack which was carried out around 10pm on Friday, to escape from the facility. Sources told SaharaReporters that the gunmen, three days before the Friday invasion, struck in Ogbomoso, a neighbouring town to Oyo, and the security operatives were fully aware of their presence in the area. “The attack in Oyo last night from the Ogbomosho axis was a well-coordinated Fulani attack aimed at securing the release of Wakili, the terrorist whom (Sunday Adeyemo) Igboho drove away from Ibarapa. I am informed by my staff and very reliable people that he was the object of that attack last night at about 10pm,” one of the top source said. “The rest was just drama. My security staff told me the gunmen struck three days ago on the Oyo-Ogbomosho Road and around that time, their strange faces were also seen around an area the boys described to me. This was a well-coordinated attack with the objective to free Wakili and other Fulani inmates,” he added. SaharaReporters had earlier reported that the entrance to the prison was blown with an explosive device while security officials at the prison fled for their safety. BREAKING: Gunmen Attack Oyo Correctional Facility With Explosives, Set Inmates Free | Sahara Reporters https:///OwtGaC1pAg pic.twitter.com/ufxPU73MEl — Sahara Reporters (@SaharaReporters) October 23, 2021 Speaking with SaharaReporters on phone, the spokesman of the NCS, Olanrewaju Anjorin, had said; “Yes. It has been confirmed that the attack actually happened. And right now, the Comptroller of Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) and other top officers are assessing the situation. But I can confirm to you that the incident actually happened." On March 7, a joint team of Ibarapa security operatives, including the Oodua Peoples Congress, Vigilante, and other groups had arrested the notorious Fulani warlord terrorising Oyo communities, Wakili. Wakili had been arrested after several attempts resulting in a gun battle. There had been reports that Wakili and his gang were involved in the killings and kidnapping of several people in Ibarapa, Oke Ogun, Oyo State. Wakili was nabbed barely seven days after his second-in-command, Isiaka Muhammadu, was arrested alongside four others. The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, had confirmed Wakili’s arrest in a statement. On June 7, no fewer than 17 persons were reportedly shot dead by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen at Igangan, in the Ibarapa North LGA. Residents had said the hoodlums invaded the town on motorcycles around 11pm in an attack which continued until around 3am on Sunday. They had fingered Wakili’s men on a revenge mission to be behind the attack. At daybreak, residents reportedly saw corpses of children and adults littered some places in the town, while houses and vehicles, including a truck loaded with cassava flour, were razed by the attackers. The Convener, Igangan Development Advocates, Oladiran Oladokun, had said the gunmen set fire to houses to drive out the people, after which they opened fire on them. He said the government did not take the security seriously, adding that they had reported that the herdsmen were planning to attack them. http://saharareporters.com/2021/10/23/exclusive-how-fulani-bandits-coordinated-attacks-oyo-correctional-facility-free-warlord

Terrorists Likely To Attack Nigeria – UK Government Lists 12 States Its Citizens Should Avoid The statement further reads, “Events to mark the one year anniversary of #EndSARS protests are likely to take place nationally, week commencing 18 October. The United Kingdom government in Nigeria has said terrorists are likely to carry out more attacks in Nigeria, while listing out more than 12 states which its citizens in Nigeria should avoid or be prepared for a high risk of kidnapping and other crimes. In a statement published on its website on Friday, the government also urged its citizens to monitor the local media for information on possible protests in different parts of the country. “Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Nigeria. Most attacks are conducted by Boko Haram or Islamic State West Africa (ISWA) and occur in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States in the North East,” the UK government said. The statement further reads, “Events to mark the one year anniversary of #EndSARS protests are likely to take place nationally, week commencing 18 October. “There may be protests and a heightened security presence in major cities such as Lagos and Abuja. In parallel, the high profile trial date of a separatist leader is also scheduled for 21 October in Abuja. “There may be additional protests and a heightened security presence in Abuja and in the South-East for this reason. In all areas affected, you should monitor local media, and avoid any demonstrations or large gatherings. “From 3 September 2021, the Nigerian Commission mandated for all telecommunication operators in Nigeria to stop extending services to Zamfara State. ”This includes a suspension of all mobile telecommunications including WiFi. A number of other state governments, including Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi and Niger have also implemented a partial shutdown of telecom services. “Since 9 August, there has been an increase in protests and demonstrations in the South-East region of Nigeria. Protests, including “Stay at Home” protests, are likely during October in the South East region. “There have been reports of violence during Stay at Home protests previously. You should monitor local media, avoid any demonstrations or large gatherings and follow any instructions from local police and security forces. “There have been a number of attacks and targeted killings in the South East and South-South regions of Nigeria, including in the states of Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Delta, Edo and Ebonyi. “Some of these attacks have been on isolated roads and in remote locations, but there is a chance that they could occur in metropolitan areas. There is also a heightened risk of indiscriminate attacks on police and security infrastructure, which may inadvertently affect bystanders. ”A number of states have imposed curfews. Travellers to these regions are advised to exercise caution if travelling in remote areas at night and follow local news and information outlets for further information, including on local curfews. ”During October 2020, there were a number of large-scale protests (known as #EndSARS protests) in Abuja, Lagos and other locations across Nigeria. Strikes over workers’ rights in Kaduna State started on 17 May 2021. Protests have occurred and disruptions to transport and utilities have been reported. See Safety and Security. ”The terrorist groups have previously shown intent and capability to conduct kidnaps in Nigeria. Foreign nationals, including humanitarian workers, are likely targets for kidnap. Humanitarian hubs and humanitarian workers have been targeted during attacks in the North East, including Monguno, Borno State on 13 June 2020. ”There have also been significant attacks in Gombe, Kano, Kaduna, Jos and Bauchi States and in the Federal capital, Abuja. Further attacks are likely. Attacks could be indiscriminate and could affect western interests as well as places visited by tourists. ”You should avoid places where crowds gather, including political meetings, religious gatherings and places of worship, markets, shopping malls, hotels, bars, restaurants, transport hubs and camps for displaced people. See Terrorism. “The al Qaeda-linked terrorist group Jamaat al Ansar al Muslimeen fi Bilad al Sudan, better known as Ansaru, claims to have killed at least 6 people, kidnapped dozens, and destroyed several vehicles during an ambush along the Kaduna-Zaira highway in Kaduna State in mid-January 2020. “If you decide to travel to Kaduna State, you should avoid regular patterns of travel or movement, and aim to only travel during daylight hours. “There’s a high threat of kidnap throughout Nigeria. Kidnaps can be motivated by criminality or terrorism and could be carried out for ideological, financial or political gain. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the risk of kidnap increases after dark. ”As well as in North-East Nigeria, extremist groups operate in some northern and middle belt states including Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Kogi, Kaduna, Niger and the Adamawa States. If you’re working or travelling in these States then you should be aware of the risk of terrorist kidnapping. See Terrorist kidnaps and Criminal kidnaps “Before considering travel to areas to which the FCDO advise against all or all but essential travel you should take professional security advice. Be vigilant at all times and keep others informed of your travel plans. If you’re working in Nigeria you should follow your employer’s security advice, make sure your accommodation is secure and review your security measures regularly.” http://saharareporters.com/2021/10/16/terrorists-likely-attack-nigeria-%E2%80%93-uk-government-lists-12-states-its-citizens-should

Ebonyi Governor Lists Kinds Of Criminals That Have Allegedly Hijacked Nnamdi Kanu's IPOB Umahi called on the pro-Biafra group to critically observe the current situation in the South-East region, describing it as worse. The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi has claimed that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), led by Nnamdi Kanu, has been hijacked by cultists, abductors, and armed robbers in society. Umahi called on the pro-Biafra group to critically observe the current situation in the South-East region, describing it as worse. The governor noted this on Tuesday at the Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital, while inaugurating members of the South-East Traditional Rulers' Council. He said, "We all know that the Indigenous People of Biafra has been hijacked by cultists, kidnappers and armed robbers in our society and that is why we must ask questions, those who said that they are fighting for us, fighting for our marginalisation should take a critical look about our situation today. “Today, it is very difficult to get trucks coming from South or North to the South-East. (This is) self-inflicted injury because we did not do comprehensive harmonisation to see what are the areas of comparative advantage and what are the areas we might see we have been marginalised. “So of late we came together and told our youth that may we know your area of marginalisation and that is what we have done.” “You don’t shave our hairs in our absence. We must stand to say enough is enough there is nothing we cannot get in Nigeria through dialogue and understanding. “Our culture is never what is going on now, so I appeal to you, let’s do more and support our governors,” Umahi added. http://saharareporters.com/2021/09/21/ebonyi-governor-lists-kinds-criminals-have-allegedly-hijacked-nnamdi-kanus-ipob

Nigeria Not Your Private Estate – Southern Group Knocks Northern Elders Over 2023 Presidency Reacting to Baba-Ahmed’s comments, SNF in a statement by its spokesperson, Olufemi Lawson maintained that President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor in 2023 must come from the Southern part. The Southern Nigeria Frontier has condemned a statement credited to the Director of Publicity and Advocacy of the Northern Elders Forum, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, in which he boasted that Northern Nigeria has the voting population and would not play second fiddle in 2023. Speaking at the maiden Maitama Sule lecture series organised by the students’ wing of the Coalition of Northern Groups, held at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, on Saturday, Baba-Ahmed had said, “We will lead Nigeria the way we have led Nigeria before; whether we are president or vice-president, we will lead Nigeria.” Reacting to Baba-Ahmed’s comments, SNF in a statement by its spokesperson, Olufemi Lawson maintained that President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor in 2023 must come from the Southern part. The statement read, “We are amazed, that the position of the Northern Elders Forum, is coming from no other person, than a Mauritanian first generation Nigerian, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed who now feels, that he is more Nigerian than the rest of us, and can as such, appropriate Nigeria's Presidency at the discretion of the NEF. “We wish to state unequivocally, that the position of the self-acclaimed Northern Elders’ Forum is not only an illusion by the NEF; the truth remains that Baba-Ahmed's North will rule only its corner of the country continuously uninterrupted, and not our own Nigeria in general. “While not willing to unnecessarily dignify the NEF, which has become famous as a group of crisis entrepreneurs, the SNF wishes to unequivocally state that the successor of President Muhammadu Buhari come 2023 must come from the Southern part of the country, this we remain, uncompromising about. “If it is the wish of Baba-Ahmed and his NEF, to hold on to the leadership of Nigeria, as long as it desired, we must remind them, that they will only rule their corner of Nigeria and not the country as a whole. “Perhaps the NEF is in desperate bid for forceful leadership and territorial control, we can without contestation, permit them to hold on to their territories that are speedily being lost to insurgency, occasioned by bad leadership in the North, particular in the Northwest, up to the stretch of Sambisa Forest, with the exception of the middle belt region, and we have no problem with that. “It is only morally and conventionally right, that the next President of Nigeria should come from the Southern part of the country, this ordinarily should not be a subject of debate, except when such is being stirred by crisis entrepreneur like Baba-Ahmed and his NEF. “As a people of the South, we will no longer watch the Northern Nigerians, reduce Nigeria to their private estate, and abuse power to the detriment of others. Therefore, after President Buhari’s second term which expires in 2023, the Presidency of Nigeria, must come back to the Southern part of the country.” http://saharareporters.com/2021/09/21/nigeria-not-your-private-estate-%E2%80%93-southern-group-knocks-northern-elders-over-2023

It didn’t bring peace to Benue’ — Miyetti Allah kicks against anti-open grazing law The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has kicked against the signing of the anti-open grazing law in Ondo state. On Tuesday, Rotimi Akeredolu, the state governor, signed the anti-open grazing bill into law. The governor said the move is in line with the resolution of the southern governors that all states in the region should make a law prohibiting open grazing before September 1. Speaking during a programme on Arise Television, on Thursday, Usman Baba-Ngelzerma, MACBAN secretary-general, said Akeredolu should learn from Benue where the same law has not brought peace to the state four years after it was signed. “We are civilised people and we know that the responsibility of making laws lies in the state house of assemblies and we know that once a law is made by the state house of assemblies and assented to by the governors, that becomes a law, whether we like it or not, whether good or bad,” he said. “But there are processes to be followed in making laws, those processes are: get all the stakeholders through public hearing, hear them, know how the law is going to solve their problem but has this been doing in making the Anti-Open Grazing Law? It has never been done. “In most of the states, none of our members have been invited for public hearing and make inputs to the law and this law is done to affect us 100%, to affect our members 100%. We are part of the critical stakeholders that are supposed to be invited to hear our views and protect our positions and that of the government of the states where we exist. “So, we will wait and see how this law is going to be implemented but I will like to draw the attention of Ondo to Benue where a law has been put in place. Go and appraise the Benue law, has it succeeded in bringing peace to Benue? It has never succeeded in bringing peace to Benue. Rather, it has further aggravated the situation to becoming worse, day in day out. “Laws are supposed to bring harmony and understanding in a community.” Baba-Ngelzerma said ranches must be established before the implementation of the law banning open grazing. https://www.thecable.ng/it-didnt-bring-peace-to-benue-miyetti-allah-kicks-against-anti-open-grazing-law/amp
