PoliticsOur Vigilantes Will Arrest Benue Governor, Ortom When He Leaves Office Over His by Insecurity(op): 11:10am On Aug 30, 2021
Our Vigilantes Will Arrest Benue Governor, Ortom When He Leaves Office Over His Anti-Fulani Comments—Miyetti Allah Sect

The herders said the planned policy had been overtaken by events.

Herders under the Miyetti Allah Kauta Hore have said they will not recognise the Southern governors' anti-grazing deadline, describing it as satanic.

This is as the September 1 deadline set aside by Southern governors for the banning of open grazing nears.

The herders said the planned policy had been overtaken by events, declaring the group's support for Nigerian government’s plan to revive grazing reserves, grazing routes and facilitate ranching in all the states.

In May, another herder group, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association supported the Southern governors’ ban on open grazing, and challenged Northern governors to follow the lead of their Southern counterparts.

The national secretary of the Miyetti Allah Kauta Hore, Saleh Alhassan, in an interview with Leadership, said members of the organisation would not recognise any anti-open grazing policy in the country.

“We don’t recognise anti-grazing law. Nobody can do anti-grazing policy in Nigeria where we are constitutionally guaranteed the right of movement and occupation,” Alhassan said, referring to the September 1 deadline set up by the Southern governors to ban the open grazing policy.

“I think that (open grazing) has been overtaken by events where the federal government is reviving the grazing reserves and grazing routes. Ranches are coming up across the states. Any policy that will heat up the polity, I don’t think is desirable for the country now.

“I think they are just beating a dead horse. After all, how many grazing reserves do we have in Southern Nigeria. Ninety per cent of the cows we have in Southern Nigeria are meant for business. They are not there for grazing. The cattle are taken there for two or three weeks before they take them to the market. We don’t even understand what they mean by anti-open grazing,” Alhassan said.

He added: “That thing is Satanic. That kind of policy is Satanic. Anything of Satan cannot prevail over light. They will fail.”

Alhassan threatened the governors over their 2023 political plans of a power shift to the South, declaring they would not get their wish.

“The power that they are looking for, they will not get. We have reported them to almighty Allah to create confusion in the camp of the enemy. And confusion will be their lot. Where is Sunday Igboho? Where is Nnamdi Kanu today? They are all in jail. The God of the pastoralists is protecting them like the God of Elijah that speaks with fire; he has fired all of them.

They can’t win. They are losers. It is a negative policy. We are supporting the federal government now to revive the grazing reserves, to revive the grazing routes, do ranches, settle the herders over time. Is that what they don’t want? Then they are the real bandits. If you are looking for a real bandit, it is Governor (Samuel) Ortom (of Benue State). He is the real bandit. And he thinks he can fight the Fulani ethnic nationality. He does not know that we are not only in Nigeria. We are an African tribe.

We are in charge of the United Nations. The pioneer secretary of the African Union is a Fulani herder. What is Ortom talking about? They better play politics that can unite this country. All these things they are saying, they can’t do anything as far as Nigeria is concerned.

We are in our country, we are not going anywhere. We will not be intimidated by anybody and we are peace-loving. It’s their own cup of tea. After all, they are the consumers of the cows,” Alhassan said, adding that the plans of the governors had failed.

“Their plans have already failed. See Sunday Igboho there; he is languishing in Beninoise prison. See Nnamdi Kanu who was captured in Kenya. Forget about them. They are the ones sponsoring all these killings. It is the handiwork of Biafra. They want to set the country on fire.”

He went on to threaten Governor Ortom with arrest after his tenure as governor.

“These people know what they are doing. They are just there to steal money, especially Governor Ortom. He is there to steal the money of Benue State. And we are waiting for him. Immediately he leaves power, if Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) does not arrest him, our vigilantes will arrest him and hand him over to the Nigeria Police to be prosecuted like a common criminal. It’s just a matter of time. He will certainly join Dariye and Co. because he has eaten security votes in billions and he has masterminded the killing of innocent people in Benue State and has lied to the entire world,” Alhassan said.[/b]

Meanwhile, Governor Samuel Ortom has said that the narrative by the presidency that his position on the state of the nation amounts to preaching genocide in the country does not make sense.

Ortom in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase said the presidency via its “unguarded comments” would one day plunge the country into more chaos.

The governor said he was aware of a plot by the Presidency to cause crisis in the state and make the state ungovernable and declare a state of emergency.

This is even as governor said no matter how the presidency tries to blackmail him, Nigerians are more aware of who is promoting genocide in the country.

He said it is rather the federal government, through the presidency, that is promoting genocide by deliberately nicknaming Fulani militia killers across the country as bandits in order to hide their identity, stressing that doing so would only aggravate killings and food insecurity.

Also speaking, the Tor Tiv, Ochivirigh Professor James Ayatse warned that any of his subjects that partakes in the shedding of Tiv blood would not prosper.

The paramount ruler also prayed that under his kingship, God would raise a Tiv man to become the president of Nigeria.

PoliticsBandits Shoot At Military Aircraft Searching For Major Abducted From Nigerian D by Insecurity(op): 6:40pm On Aug 27, 2021
EXCLUSIVE: Bandits Shoot At Military Aircraft Searching For Major Abducted From Nigerian Defence Academy

SharaReporters learnt that apart from the unfriendly weather which makes the terrain difficult for the military Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance aircraft, the bandits are reportedly to be firing at approaching military aircraft.

Troops of the Nigerian Army and military aircraft searching for Major Christopher Datong, abducted by bandits during an attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna State, are reportedly having a tough time, top military sources told SaharaReporters.

SaharaReporters learnt that apart from the unfriendly weather which makes the terrain difficult for the military Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance aircraft, the bandits are reportedly to be firing at approaching military aircraft.

“Of course, there are several groups of bandits, and no one is 100 per cent sure which group is holding the Major. You cannot bomb them because you want to ensure you do not destroy the victim with the suspects. The weather is also not helpful. They shoot at military aircraft if you fly too low. They shot at our aircraft, including these ones conducting the search. So, the guys searching from air are not able to search all day,” one of the sources said.

When asked if the military was negotiating the payment of ransoms, another source said, “That is unconfirmed. No bandit can approach the military for ransom. That is the height of death. We cannot think it not to talk of paying ransom,” he replied.

SaharaReporters had on Wednesday reported that the Defence Headquarters, Abuja was coordinating a search and rescue operation for Major Datong.

The DHQ, in a release by Maj Gen Benjamin Sawyer, the Director, Defence Information, had stated this.

“Let me use this opportunity, to reiterate that the NDA authorities, acting on the directive of the Chief of Defence Staff has constituted a board of enquiry to ascertain the remote and immediate cause(s) of the breach of security with a view to sanction any personnel found culpable and also prevent future occurrence.

“Let me also assure that we shall continue to update the general public as events unfold as we are all aware the search and rescue of the abducted officer is still on. Troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria will continue with its operations to ensure all those involved in the dastardly act are brought to justice,” he had said.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported that Datong is still alive, according to a family source.

A family member of the officer had told SaharaReporters on Wednesday that contrary to reports, he had not been killed and he was still alive.

“He is still alive. I can confirm it to you,” the source told SaharaReporters.

The Nigerian Defence Academy, the military’s foremost training institution in the country, had confirmed that gunmen, believed to be bandits, invaded the facility, killed two officers and abducted one other.

The NDA Spokesman, Major Bashir Jajira, in a release, had noted that the Nigerian Army and Air Training Command as well as other security agencies in Kaduna state had commenced a “pursuit of the unknown gunmen within the general area.”

PoliticsBoko Haram: Residents, Stakeholders, Fear Terrorists May Take Borno From Inside by Insecurity(op): 8:47am On Aug 16, 2021
Boko Haram: Residents, stakeholders, fear terrorists may take Borno from inside after surrenderingPublished on August 16, 2021By Maina Maina

The 12-year-old battle between the Nigerian security forces and members of the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, which has spread across the Northeast region, resulting in the killings of over 30,000 innocent citizens and the displacement of over three million people from their ancestral homes began in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. This conflict has changed a lot of things not only in Borno State but also the entire country as many homes had a taste of what the insurgency brought.

DAILY POST observed that, while it is a thing of joy to hear the numbers of terrorists surrendering to the Nigerian military, it is also wise for the Nigerian authorities to tread carefully in receiving the so-called repentant terrorists.

Borno residents have welcomed the new development with mixed feelings looking at the other side of the act of war. While responding to the increased recent surrendering of terrorists to troops, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, spoke the minds of many residents who had suffered and still bearing the brunt of the 12 years insurgency which is still counting as there was recently an attempt by the terrorists to overrun Damboa town in Borno.

Nigerian Army Debunks reports of freeing repentant Boko Haram Bomb experts

Residents and security operatives believe that, hunger or blockage of food supplies should not be the only reasons the terrorists are coming out to surrender.

“There must be something to look into regarding the influx of the terrorists, who are coming behind their wives and children as human shields. I am not doubting the capacity of our military but foolishness of our politicians is what matters here because they can put pressure on the military to release terrorists for some political manipulations at the detriment of our people who are craving for food and water. ” Ibrahim Audi, a resident of Maiduguri observed.

Also Muktar Salim, a staff of one of the higher institutions in Maiduguri told DAILY POST that, over 1000 Boko Haram Terrorists were said to have surrendered to troops.

” Where are these terrorists being kept? How is the government approaching this situation. If these terrorists are coming for good, then I will be happy for all of us. But if they are coming with a hidden agenda, then I am worried they might be agents coming to prepare how they might take the state from within. The government should, therefore, not be in a hurry to release them into the communities as it may turn out to be a serious disaster.”

Mohammed Kabir Suleiman likened the influx of the surrendering terrorists to what is currently happening in Afghanistan. According to him, some Taliban’s have come out to renounce terrorism and they were allowed to move freely among the people but suddenly as the Americans pull out the government of Afghanistan, they cannot stop them again.

“It is fearful what is happening today in Afghanistan. I read from reports that terrorists who had earlier surrendered and lived in the cities now being occupied by the Taliban’s are the same people who made ways for the fighters to take these cities like wild fire. Nigeria and our military should not allow mistake like this to happen because it will be a disaster more than what we have seen in the past, especially with the knowledge and experience of war that these terrorists are coming with,” he said.

In his observation, the Shehu of Borno said “Surrendering to the military; was a welcome development to both the State Government and victims of terrorism.”

He said, the Safe Corridor programme of the Army led to the de-radicalization of repentant terrorists in Gombe State. But that it will be very difficult if not impossible for Borno citizens to reintegrate the repentant insurgents into destroyed communities.

The Shehu recalled the destruction of Bama town, one of the largest towns in terms of population in the state, adding that, “Bama township and its College of Education; were flattened by Boko Haram in September, 2014.”

He observed that the fear of the people over the 12-year insurgency still remain and will continue to haunt members of the communities, where the surrendered terrorists are to be re-integrated.

“13 district heads and many ward heads were killed in the over a decade insurgency in my emirate; comprising 16 Local Government Areas in the state. It is easy to forgive for the destruction of many lives and property, but difficult to forget the wanton loss of lives in the various communities of my Chiefdom,” The royal father said.

“Many people were killed along with their property for 12 years. And you people and the media expect us to forget and forgive the repentant terrorists?” he asked citing a resident who lost eight members of his family to Boko Haram. “If the repentant terrorists killed the entire family, the survivor will definitely pursue the reintegrated insurgents for revenge no matter where he goes or lives in the country,” he said.

He, therefore, warned that it will be difficult and dicey to allow the repentant terrorists to live in their respective communities, while the people are still going through the trauma coupled with hunger, diseases and the blood still flowing with unrepentant terrorists still operating in the state.

Another key area observed on the surrendering of the Boko Haram fighters was the point raised by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Sen. Mohammed Ali Ndume, who in his opinion said, no blanket amnesty or pampering should be given to the terrorists.

Ndume urged the Nigerian authorities to ensure that citizens who bore the mark of the conflict on their bodies are settled. “This is when the nation can begin to talk about how to reintegrate those who have wreaked havoc in the country and are now pleading for mercy.”

Ndume suggested that, the first step after getting the surrendered terrorists, is the resettlement of about 1.7 million displaced persons. “Now that the war is getting to an end, then we talk of profiling, investigating and interrogating the surrendered terrorists from the forest and Lake Chad region,” he said.

It’s Difficult To Reintegrate Boko Haram Who Killed In My Community For 12 Years — Shehu Of Borno
Among the repentant terrorists were the logistics suppliers for the Boko Haram and ISWAP, Musa Adamu, aka Mala Musa Abuja, and his second-in-command.

The Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi, and other traditional leaders in Borno State have said it will be difficult to reintegrate repentant Boko Haram members into their communities.

They expressed fears over the de-radicalisation of repentant members of Boko Haram by the Nigerian Army under its Safe Corridor programme.

However, El-Kanemi said the idea was relatively welcome but noted that the people would continue to be haunted by the horrors of the 12-year insurgency, especially residents of communities where the repentant insurgents are to be incorporated.

“The Safe Corridor programme of the Nigerian Army led to the de-radicalisation of repentant terrorists in Gombe State. But it will be very difficult if not impossible for us to reintegrate the repentant insurgents into our destroyed communities,” he said, adding that Bama township and its college of education were overtaken by Boko Haram in September 2014.

The insurgents were reported to have killed 13 district heads and several ward heads in 16 local government areas of the state.

“It is easy to forgive for the destruction of many lives and property, but difficult to forget the wanton loss of lives in the various communities of my Chiefdom,” the Shehu of Borno said.

“Many people were killed along with their property for 12 years. And you people and the media expect us to forget and forgive the repentant terrorists?”

On Tuesday, the Nigerian Army in a statement by its spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu, announced that no fewer than 1,000 Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (a Boko Haram offshoot) members had laid down their arms and surrendered to the troops.

SaharaReporters was told that the repentant fighters were 335, while their family members were 746 women and children, adding up to 1,081 persons.

Among the repentant terrorists were the logistics suppliers for the Boko Haram and ISWAP, Musa Adamu, aka Mala Musa Abuja, and his second-in-command, Usman Adamu, who turned themselves in to the troops of Operation Hadin Kai of the Nigerian Army.

Again, herdsmen attack travellers on Ekiti highway, kill one, abduct two
Friday’s incident occurred four days after gunmen also suspected to be herdsmen shot and killed a man named Ademola Afolayan on a poultry farm in Ikere-Ekiti.

On Friday night, suspected herdsmen waylaid travellers returning from a function in Ekiti, shot dead the driver of the vehicle and abducted at least two occupants.

Police confirmed the attack on Saturday.

Police spokesman in Ekiti, ASP Sunday Abutu, said the gunmen shot the driver of the vehicle, a LEXUS 330 SUV, dead and took the two other occupants of the vehicle away.

The attack took place between Ewu-Ekiti and Aiyetoro-Ekiti, neighbouring communities in Ilejemeje and Ido/Osi Local Government Areas of Ekiti State.

ASP Abutu told NAN that police, in conjunction with local hunters and operatives of Amotekun Corps, were already combing the forest around the area to rescue the victims and arrest the gunmen.

Witnesses, however, told NAN that there were five occupants in the vehicle and they were attacked by suspected herdsmen while returning from a social function in the area.

The witnesses also confirmed that the driver was shot dead and the other occupants of the vehicle were abducted.

The vehicle, with registration number LAGOS KRD 264 GV, was left at the scene facing the bush with only the dead inside it.

The identities of the victims had not been ascertained at the time of filing this report.

Friday’s incident occurred four days after gunmen also suspected to be herdsmen shot and killed a man named Ademola Afolayan on a poultry farm in Ikere-Ekiti on Monday, August 2 at about 5:00 p.m.

NAN sources said the gunmen, numbering about five, invaded the poultry farm located at Eselemo Farm, Igbo-Oka area close to Akure Road, shooting sporadically and in the process, killed Mr Afolayan.

Two persons were said to have narrowly escaped the Monday incident.

Also former Ekiti State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Clement Adekola, escaped death by the whiskers when his vehicle was attacked on Tuesday, August 3, also at about 5:00 p.m.

The gunmen opened fire on Adekola’s vehicle as he was traveling along Ikere-Igbara Odo Road, in Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Recently, kidnappers allegedly abducted some travellers in three commercial buses on Akure/Ikere-Ado Ekiti road in Ekiti State.

It was gathered that the kidnappers swooped on the travellers’ vehicles while navigating through the bad portions of the road.

NAN gathered that one of the drivers narrowly escaped the incident that took place between Iju community in Ondo State and Ikere-Ekiti in Ekiti State.

A witness said that the vehicles were left in the middle of the road, a situation which attracted members of the public who raised the alarm.

Herdsmen kill eight in another Enugu attack, blame Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB

No fewer than eight persons have been murdered in Mgbuji community, Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The ambush carried out by herdsmen also left hectares of farmland destroyed with a number of residents missing.

The community has linked the attack to threats by herdsmen who reportedly blamed Nnamdi Kanu and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for their action.

It was gathered that the casualty figure may rise due to the number of persons injured.

An eye witness, Chinaza Akan, told The Sun that one of the casualties was a pregnant woman. Her stomach was opened and the fetus removed.

The latest incident occurred Sunday afternoon between the community’s border with the Benue community.

Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Eha-Amufu, Rt Rev Daniel Nkemjika Olinya, confirmed the attack.

The cleric said it was the third time violent herdsmen invaded Mgbuji community in 2021.

“The last before this Sunday’s led to the death of six people. Five of them have not been buried. They came again this time and killed eight persons,” he said.

Olinya further linked the killings to the eviction notice given to the herdsmen.

“Some of those kidnapped and released said the herdsmen insisted that they would continue there until IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, dropped his agitations for Biafra,” he said.

The Bishop recalled that the Police came on Monday to take the corpses away but were resisted.

The community people insisted that the operatives sign an undertaking to release the corpses to the family members for burial.

The Enugu Command has commenced investigation of the renewed attacks.

The officers were ambushed and kidnapped along Sapele-Warri road while travelling to Delta from Kaduna State.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Kotongs Bello who confirmed the incident to DAILY POST said the command has rescued five of the officers.

The PPRO who was unable to give details of the incident, said the command is working hard to ensure the remaining officers are also rescued unhurt.

Criminal elements have been on rampage across the country, killing and kidnapping citizens despite efforts by the Nigerian Army and other security agencies.

Several school children and travellers are currently in kidnappers dens, particularly in the North where banditry is relatively a business.

PoliticsBuhari Unleashes Maddening Heat On Agitators, Turns Blind Eyes As Blood-thirsty by Insecurity(op):
Buhari unleashes maddening heat on agitators, turns blind eyes as blood-thirsty bandits, terrorists revel in cash, challenge Nigeria’s aerial power
Adelani Adepegba
27 July 2021
Kindly share this story:

ADELANI ADEPEGBA writes on the seemingly unending war against insecurity in the North-West and the pretence by leaders to surmount the problem

Three incidents, which starkly highlight the mortal danger facing the country, occurred last week. Many Nigerians have probably passed them off as the usual incidents in the life of a nation beleaguered by terrorists deceptively described as bandits in official quarters.

A Nigerian Air Force alpha jet crashed in Zamfara State on July 18 after it came under intense fire from insurgents. The aircraft was returning from a successful air interdiction mission between the boundaries of Zamfara and Kaduna states when criminals operating in the area shot it down. Luckily, the pilot, Flight Lieutenant Abayomi Dairo, ejected from the doomed jet and managed to evade the bloodhounds baying for his head. The nation was saved the loss of the ‘lion-heart’.

Reliving his ordeal, the pilot observed that a large swathe of Zamfara and Kaduna forests are governed by hardened criminals who live by the sword.

Security experts pointed out that the downing of the military aircraft was an indication that the so-called bandits are Boko Haram insurgents, who migrated to Zamfara and Kaduna to raise money for their unholy jihad through the ransoms collected from abducted citizens.

A day before the air crash, a notorious criminal terrorising the North-West, Kachalla Turji, unleashed his venom on several villages in the Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting about 150 persons in retaliation for the arrest of his father. His gang laid siege to Kurya, Keta, Kware, Badarawa, Marisuwa and Maberaya villages. Several travellers were also abducted on the Gusau-Sokoto Road, while residents of neighbouring villages live in fear of what may befall them.

Turji, who met with renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, in February, demanded his father’s immediate release so he could celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir with his family. He reportedly vowed to abduct many people and keep them from observing the Eid with their families if his father was not released. He said his gang had loads of arms it could unleash on the state.

To the amazement of Nigerians, the government succumbed to Turji’s threats. His father was released just to placate him. The scoundrel has not been arrested as we speak.

On July 23, suspected bandits killed seven vigilantes, otherwise known as Yan Sakai, and also abducted 13 others in an attack on Dansadau town in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The criminals invaded the community around 3am and went after selected targets. They also torched an armoured vehicle stationed in the community by security operatives.

In Kaduna State, the Atyap Community Development Association alleged that 42 of its people were killed and seven wounded by unknown gunmen in the latest attacks on several communities in the Zangon Kataf Local Government Area. Three hundred and thirty eight houses were allegedly set ablaze.

Our correspondent had earlier reported the activities of another hoodlum identified as Dankarami, who boasted about the number of troops he had neutralised. In a video, the gunman was seen telling a group of officials how he ambushed and murdered many soldiers. He also openly confessed his involvement in several abductions. Dankarami is still holding sway in Zamfara and environs as of the time of filing this report.

ENACT Programme’s Regional Organised Crime Observatory Coordinator for Central Africa at the Institute for Security Studies in Dakar, Senegal, Oluwole Ojewale, described the insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West as terrorism disguised thinly as banditry.

In an article published on brookings.edu, he said, “Further evidence suggests that the government is simplifying the dynamics. In actuality, North-western Nigeria has become the safe haven of increasingly active terrorist groups, including the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara, Jama’at Nusrat al Islamwal Muslimin; Al Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb, a splinter of Boko Haram popularly referred to as the Islamic State in West Africa Province; and the Fulani herdsmen of West Africa once rated the fourth-deadliest terror group in the world.”

Ironically, the Department of State Services appears to be more concerned about the activities of secessionists. Its July 1 dawn raid on the residence of the Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Igboho, where two persons were gunned down and 13 others arrested, is still fresh in the memory of Nigerians. In the DSS list of security threats, agitators apparently rank higher and pose more danger to the nation than terrorists and bandits destroying lives and livelihoods in northern communities.

Policy analysts blame such double-standard for the inability of the security services to combat the rising criminality in the country.

Bandit recaptures fleeing student, collects N130,00, phone, SIM card
Buhari’s clampdown on freedom fighters borders on ethnic cleansing – Afenifere
Buhari has fulfilled most campaign promises - APC chieftain
Adopting a middle of the road approach, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), prefers fighting a wildfire with a bucket of water. If words could kill, his stern warnings and verbal threats to bandits and terrorists would have long ended the security crisis. But Nigerians have yet to see the insurgents fall over themselves to surrender their weapons or renounce their evil ways despite the General’s reprimands.

The Nigeria Security Tracker Council of Foreign Relations reports that over 5,034 persons had been killed across the country between January and June this year. According to the NST, 976 persons were murdered in January; 879 in February; 875 in March; 1,037 in April; 1,051 in May and 216 in June. An aggregation of the data shows that 584 persons were killed by Boko Haram and security operatives; 555 deaths were caused by sectarian actors, 530 by state actors and 216 by Boko Haram insurgents. Additional 1,435 individuals were also reported killed by non-state actors believed to be bandits between February and June, 2021.

While many Nigerians worry over this unconscionable waste of lives and the effete government response, the stance and body language of some leaders give the impression that all is well in the country. One of such people is Governor Nasir El-Rufai whose state, Kaduna, is being pillaged by ‘bandits’. Asked by BBC Pidgin during an interview if Boko Haram and bandits should be treated with the same swiftness that led to Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest, El-Rufai said, “No! No! No! No! People are comparing apples to oranges.”

Justifying his position, he added, “Nnamdi Kanu is the leader of IPOB, a proscribed organisation. He is identifiable, in constant communication and everyone know where he is. Nnamdi Kanu is in one place, while (deceased Boko Haram leader) Shekau is waging guerrilla warfare. The insurgency is still going on and the Federal Government is not giving up.

Regarding bandits, they are not centralised under one leadership. Who is the head of the bandits? Who is the equivalent of Nnamdi Kanu with banditry? Bandits are just collections of independent criminals. It is a business for them. It is not a case of Nigeria must breakup.

Critics insist that such disingenuous arguments by the northern leadership embolden the criminals in the region and also discourage the security agencies from hitting the hoodlums where it hurts most. Though the military is carrying out operations in Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina and other states, the impact is limited in scale to secure the huge territory under siege. Security analysts believe boots on the ground and cooperation with the communities could yield better . To achieve peace and security, the government was advised to build trust with local communities vulnerable to attacks by bandits.

Setting up of early warning and response systems; working with vigilantes and community leaders on the ground, while addressing structural inequalities that drive people to violence, like poverty, a lack of education and opportunity could also help in combating crimes. Curbing the flow of firearms was also recommended as a crucial measure.

An expert in displacement and migration, terrorism, conflict and development, Claire Brenner, stated, “The Federal Government must increase funding for police and security forces to effectively oversee rural areas, control cross-border arms proliferation, and strengthen intelligence capabilities.

“In addition, addressing the root problems that often drive people to violence — inequality, poverty lack of education and job opportunities — is needed to stem the recruitment of youths into bandit groups.”

A lecturer/resident researcher, Department of Political Science, Federal University, Lafia, Chukwuma Okoli, in his research into banditry, observes that the Federal Government’s current counter-banditry effort, based on military reconnaissance and raids, is good and commendable, but it has failed to bring about the needed respite, owing largely to the operational challenges arising from insufficient knowledge of the terrain.

He argues, “There’s no more effective solution than forceful inland and frontier policing. Such policing must deal with the region’s peculiar circumstances of diverse borderlines, forestlands and hinterlands. This requires a tactical synergy between grassroots vigilantes and the state security operatives.

This makes the involvement of local vigilantes and community watch groups, who have a better knowledge of the terrain, more important. However, to guard against possible excesses and abuse, people in these structures must be properly trained, equipped and supervised. The way forward, then, is the development of grassroots policing, enriched by local personnel and intelligence.”

Herdsmen kill four, 10 missing as Enugu community challenges destruction of farms

Suspected Fulani herdsmen on Monday allegedly attacked Obie-Aku, Opanda village, Nimbo community, in the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, killing four people and injuring many others.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the attackers invaded the village around 3am when residents of the agrarian community were still asleep.

A community leader, Stephen Obiakor, told our correspondent on the telephone that 10 people were still missing after the attack.

According to him, trouble started on Sunday when some herders came with their cattle to graze in the farm settlement.

“But our people asked them to leave because they had already destroyed some crops.

“One thing led to another and there was a heated argument that led our people to chase them away from the settlement. Remember that Fulani herdsmen killed our people in 2015 when they invaded this community. So, our people didn’t expect anything since they had left in peace.

“Unfortunately this morning (Monday), they invaded the community and four people were killed. The number could rise because we are still searching for 10 of our people. We also don’t know how many that will survive in the hospital,” he added.

Obiakor noted that three people who were seriously injured had been taken to a hospital for treatment.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the attack, but was silent on the number of deaths.

Ndukwe said the state Commissioner of Police had ordered investigation into the incident.

He said, “Following information received at the Nimbo Police Division in the early hours of today, July 26, 2021, alleging that yet-to-be
yet-to-be-identified hoodlums attacked some persons in a location at Opanda village in Nimbo community of Uzo-Uwani LGA, police operatives attached to the division raced to the scene and found three young men with degrees of machete cuts.

They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are responding to treatment.

“Meanwhile, the area is calm, while the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Aliyu, has ordered the conduct of thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring the perpetrators to book.”

Politics154 Days After Gumi Warned About Purchase Of Anti-aircraft Missiles, Bandits Dow by Insecurity(op): 8:55am On Jul 25, 2021
154 days after Gumi warned about purchase of anti-aircraft missiles, bandits down NAF jet

Cleric should be invited, say retired capt, lawyer

Bandits terrorising the northern part of Nigeria last Monday proved right the claim made months ago by Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, that they were acquiring anti-aircraft missiles to attack the country’s military fighter jets.

About 154 days after Gumi gave the intelligence in an exclusive interview with Sunday PUNCH published on February 14, bandits in Zamfara State, on July 18, gunned down a Nigerian Air Force Alfa Jet flown by Flight Lieutenant Abayomi Dairo.

The military aircraft perished but the pilot luckily escaped and survived the deadly onslaught, according to a July 19 statement by NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore, Edward Gabkwet.

Gabkwet said, “On July 18, 2021, around 12.45pm, a Nigerian Air Force Alpha Jet aircraft, returning from a successful air interdiction mission between the boundaries of Zamfara and Kaduna states, came under intense enemy fire, which led to its crash in Zamfara State.

“Luckily, the gallant pilot of the aircraft, Flight Lieutenant Abayomi Dairo, successfully ejected from the aircraft. Using his survival instincts, the pilot, who came under intense ground fire from the bandits, was able to evade them and sought refuge in nearby settlements awaiting sunset.”

Sunday PUNCH had in February interviewed Gumi shortly after his first well-publicised trip into the Zamfara forest to hold a parley with the dreaded bandits.

The cleric, who on return from the forest began a campaign that the bandits be granted amnesty by government, disclosed in the interview that bandits were responsible for the growing wave of kidnappings in the country.

Gumi said, from his interaction with the bandits, he had gathered that they were kidnapping and using ransoms collected to acquire arms, adding that they were in moves to purchase anti-aircraft missiles for the purpose of downing military jets.

He had said, “Most of the kidnappings, they (the bandits) are doing it to acquire weapons. They are now trying to buy missiles, anti-aircraft missiles. This is already developing into a full-blown insurgency and we should stop that. And what we are afraid of is that if they become religiously radicalised, it will give rise to another dimension, and it will be very difficult to control.”

Stressing the point, the cleric added, “Like I said, they are collecting ransoms to buy weapons. Look at the herdsmen in Oyo and southeastern states, they are not buying skyscrapers or riding Mercedes; they are still in the bush. They don’t want money. They want their cows, not money. They are doing that (kidnapping) to raise money just to buy weapons to repel helicopters and aeroplanes and to attack anybody that is going to attack them.”

A 2020 report by SB Morgan Intelligence had stated that, between 2011 and 2020, at least $18.34m was paid as ransom by victims of kidnap across the country.

A 2020 report by SB Morgan Intelligence had stated that, between 2011 and 2020, at least $18.34m was paid as ransom by victims of kidnap across the country.

“Overall, Nigeria is becoming less safe each year. Kidnapping has increased in almost all states, but the sharpest rise has been in Kaduna, Rivers, Katsina, Zamfara and Taraba, while only Bayelsa, in the entire country, saw a fall in the number of incidents compared to the period of 2011 to 2015,” the report had stated.

While the July 18 attack on Nigerian Air Force jet proved Gumi right, it is unclear whether the government or security forces did anything with the information months after Gumi volunteered it.

Bandits’ attacks in northern Nigeria became worse thereafter, with multiple unchallenged mass abductions of students in schools in the region, indicating that the bandits have become rather more emboldened.

One of the worst hit northern states is Kaduna, whose governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, had openly kicked against Gumi’s proposed amnesty for bandits.

In the interview with Sunday PUNCH, Gumi warned that any governor opposed to the amnesty should retract their words to avoid coming under bandits’ attacks.

Asked whether comments like El-Rufai’s had the potential of worsening attacks by bandits, Gumi said, “Such comments are only exposing the people who make them to dangers because many of these bandits became bandits because their children, their family members, were killed as collateral damage.

“So, I think it is very important that such politicians retract their statements for their own safety because these bandits are all over the place. They were profiled and many of the (military) bombardments have killed many innocent people, which is true. So, we have to be careful about what we say, really, because Nigeria is very fragile.”

Commenting on the downing of the NAF plane, Captain Bishop Johnson (retd.), in a phone interview with our correspondent on Saturday, said by now, Gumi ought to have been invited and questioned by security agencies on his role in the Monday attack.

Johnson argued that it was even possible that the bandits got the idea of acquiring anti-aircraft missiles on Gumi’s instigation, hence the need for the cleric to be brought in for questioning.

According to Johnson, banditry had become a commercial venture with beneficiaries at many levels, including some persons in government.

“Gumi should be a person of interest and he should be invited to explain his role. If he said it then and it is happening now, Gumi should be invited,” Johnson said.

Sharing Johnson’s view in a separate interview with Sunday PUNCH, on Saturday, a human rights activist and lawyer, Chief Malcolm Omirhobo, said, “Gumi is supposed to be a guest at the Department of States Services (office) all this while and it is very sad that the DSS has turned a blind eye.

“If you look at the terrorist Act, it covers people like Gumi – people who hold meetings with terrorists, people who negotiate on behalf of terrorists, and people who solicit on behalf of terrorists are also terrorists. And the government has been short of calling the bandits terrorists but what the bandits are doing amounts to acts of terrorism.

“The government has to look at that terrorist Act; it’s not for fun because it is surprising that the government has refused to invite and quiz Gumi – this is somebody who said he knows where the bandits are and he goes there with government officials.”

Omirhobo said the loss of the military aircraft was lamentable, giving the country’s state of economy.

“Thank God the pilot survived, but the government seems not to care about the loss. Do you know how much the aircraft costs? But the government is not concerned. If that thing had happened in the West or the East, the entire Nigerian Army would have gone there. This is discriminatory,” he said.

PoliticsGunmen Said They’d Keep Kidnapping For Ransom Until Nnamdi Kanu Stopped Biafran by Insecurity(op): 3:25pm On Jul 24, 2021
Gunmen said they’d keep kidnapping for ransom until Nnamdi Kanu stopped Biafran agitation –18-year-old Enugu abductee

Eighteen-year-old native of Eha-Amufu community in Enugu State, Francis Odo, tells RAPHAEL EDE about his encounter with kidnappers in the community

Can you share the story of how you were kidnapped with us?

It happened around 7pm on Wednesday, June 9. I was on a motorcycle with two other guys coming home to Agu-Amaede from the camp in Eha-Amufu. We were stopped by four men, flashing their torches in our faces. As we made to run back, three other men with guns surfaced behind us, pointing the guns at us. They rounded us up and led us into a nearby bush, where five other men were keeping watch over two victims, earlier kidnapped.

On getting there, they ordered us to lie down and then began to beat us. They searched through our pockets and took all our money and phones. About 15 minutes later, they brought a lady and an old man to join us.

What happened next?

Shortly after, we started hearing heavy gunshots near the roads. About five minutes after the gun battle, the others (kidnappers) rushed to the place we were kept and informed their colleagues that they were attacked by forest guards. So, they decided to take us away from that location. They kept making phone calls as they were marching us away. I heard them saying that they killed three forest guards in the encounter. They asked us for the location of the police station and the forest guards’ office in the area. We told them that there was no police station in the vicinity; that the nearest police station was in Ikem town.

As they marched us through the bush path, they kept beating us heavily. We walked for about seven hours before they decided to rest around 1am at the railway. It was at that point that they gave us our phones to start making calls. They said they would collect N10m ransom on the old man.

The lady with us also called her relations but I don’t know how much they asked them to bring. It was there that they shared all the money they collected from us and some of them moved towards other directions, leaving us with about six others to continue our journey.

How will you describe the kidnappers?

As we were moving, they kept telling us that they were Boko Haram members and that they were the ones who attacked a village called Egedegede in Ebonyi State where they killed many people. They said they would keep kidnapping our people and collecting money until our people stop talking about Biafra, and that anyone whose people failed to pay would be killed.

They also said we should call Nnamdi Kanu so that we would regain our freedom. They said Nnamdi Kanu had been deceiving us to agitate for Biafra and asking that Fulani people should go from the East. They said once they see Nnamdi Kanu, Igbo problems would be over.

Did you tell them anything after they said that?

We told them we didn’t know Nnamdi Kanu, not to talk of having his phone number, and that he was not from our village. That response got us some heavy beating.

How many of you were in their captivity then?

We were six in number. We were kidnapped on Wednesday and they took us to a community in Benue State. On Thursday by 4 am, they brought us back to the railway where they shared money the previous day. It was there that I called my elder brother and told him that I had been kidnapped. They spoke with my brother and told him to bring N5m.

They also told us to call our state governor to come and pay for our freedom. They asked us the name of our local government chairman, but we said we didn’t know.

They also told us to mention the rich people in Agu-Amede. They insisted that we should lead them to any rich man’s house on that second night so that they would take the person and release us. We told them that our people are all farmers.

They started making jest of us by asking us to dance to their tribal music. They
would untie one person and ask him to dance while
a song played on their phones. We all danced because they beat anyone who refused to dance; they would beat the person like a thief. The following day, I contacted a Catholic priest in our parish and together with people from our village, they made contributions to get us out of the kidnappers’ den.

Danish Cartoonist Westergaard Who Drew Prophet Mohammed Has Passed On

Danish cartoonist, Kurt Westergaard has passed on at the age of 86, Danish newspaper Berlingske reported.

He died peacefully after a long illness, the newspaper reported, citing his family.

Danish broadcaster TV2 cited the former editor of Jyllands-Posten confirming Westergaard’s death, while Danish public broadcaster DR also cited one of his longtime friends.

Mr Westergaard became known globally in 2005 when a series of his cartoons of the prophet Mohammed published in the Jyllands-Posten newspaper sparked Denmark’s biggest foreign policy crisis since the end of World War II.

Four months after the publication, they became the basis of protests in some Muslim countries, including Nigeria, where half of the population are considered Muslim.

Some of the demonstrations became violent. Danish and Norwegian embassies were attacked, and dozens of people died.

The cartoon controversy also led to diplomatic disagreements between Denmark and various other countries.

The events led to a debate about the limits of freedom of expression and religion in the country and beyond.

Mr Westergaard was one of several cartoonists who responded to a callout from Jyllands-Posten.

But his depiction of Mohammed was met with the greatest outrage from Muslims.

It showed the prophet wearing a turban in the shape of a bomb.

Mr Westergaard, a teacher who had worked for the conservative Danish newspaper since the 1980s, had to be accompanied by bodyguards from then on.

In 2010, he narrowly escaped an attack by a 28-year-old man who broke into his house with an axe.

BREAKING!!! Soldiers Allegedly Kill Three Villagers Trying To Capture Bandits (Photos)

Nigerian soldiers have allegedly killed three persons at Kwanar Farakwai village along Kaduna—Zaria Expressway, Igabi Local Government Ares of Kaduna State after youths of the community gathered to capture bandits.

A source, who spoke with SaharaReporters, said the bandits invaded the village on Wednesday in an attempt to abduct some villagers but youths armed with weapons rose up to the occasion and pursued the criminals.

The bandits reportedly hid in a rock close the town and the youths, who went after them in a bid to capture them, surrounded the rock.

Unfortunately, a company which houses its staff in the area had contacted some soldiers who, rather than ask questions, shot at the youths gathered at the place, the source said.

According to him, three persons have been confirmed dead while 10 of them sustained serious injuries and have been taken to the hospital

Villagers have now surrounded the rock demanding the arrest of the kidnappers and had set a portion of rock ablaze.

He said, “Yesterday, kidnappers entered the community; when the kidnappers entered the town, the youths of the town stopped the kidnappers from operating. The kidnappers later discovered that the youths had local guns, the kidnappers ran away and hid inside the rock.

The youths went after them and surrounded the rock but there is a company inside the rock. When the company officials saw the young people gathered outside, there was tension and they immediately called the attention of the soldiers to the situation, thinking the youths were kidnappers

When the soldiers came, they just started shooting people. As at now, 10 people are in the hospital, three people have been killed.

“The kidnappers are still inside the rock and the people of the town said they will not leave until the soldiers arrest the kidnappers and hand them over to the villagers.

The villagers have insisted they will remain there till their desires are granted. They (the youths) have set a part of the rock ablaze.”

PoliticsHausa Residents Cry Out As Rivers Govt Demolishes Shanties by Insecurity(op): 7:48am On Jul 14, 2021
Members of the Hausa community at Trailer Park in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State have cried out over the alleged, “demolition” of their homes by the State Government.

The State Government had recently commenced the demolition of shanties along the Eleme axis of the East-West as part of its effort to fight insecurity in the State.

Governor Nyesom Wike had repeatedly said the shanties provide hideouts for some criminals operating in the State.

However, the Chief of the Hausa community in Eleme, Al-Shittu Dahiru whose members were affected by the demolition said about fifteen thousand of them have been rendered homeless by the State Government.

He said the businesses of his people have also been displaced by the action of the government for no reason.

Dahiru also claimed that for over thirty-seven years of their stay in that community, none of his members have been accused of any criminal offence.

According to him, “We were just here when we saw a Caterpillar from Eleme Local Government Chairman who said he was sent by the Governor to demolish our houses here. More than fifteen thousand people including women and children have been displaced. For 37 years, I have not seen a Hausa man that police have accosted for any crime. We don’t know where this is coming from.

“We are appealing with his excellency to assist us.”

Other affected residents also appealed to the governor to rescue them from suffering by paying a visit to the area.

One of them said, ”we are pleading with the State and the Federal Government to come to our rescue. We have different tribes here. I’m from Edo State and we have a lot of Hausa people here who are living with their families and they have rendered us homeless. No place to sleep, so we are pleading with the State Government. Let justice be served.”

REVEALED: Details Of Car IPOB Leader, Kanu Was Driving When Abducted From Airport Parking Lot, Others

SaharaReporters had reported that Kanu was taken from an underground parking lot of an international airport in Kenya, while trying to "meet a person arriving in the country for a high-level IPOB meeting".

More details have emerged of the illegal abduction of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Kenya, including that of the vehicle registration plate or number plate of the vehicle in which he was taken.

SaharaReporters had reported that Kanu was taken from an underground parking lot of an international airport in Kenya, while trying to "meet a person arriving in the country for a high-level IPOB meeting".

A source privy to how Kanu was illegally kidnapped in Kenya and brought to Nigeria by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government has revealed that "it was only his Kenyan-based phone that was seized upon his arrest".

The source said his "passport and three (major) phones plus laptop were not with him during the time he was kidnapped".

Also according to the source, Kanu was arrested in an "Audi TT with licence plate number KCV 100 K".

SaharaReporters also learnt that Kanu has engaged the services of a top law firm, Bindmans LLP,  to represent him in the UK.

Bindmans is an award-winning law firm based in central London with four senior consultants and 21 partners.

The senior consultants are Sir Geoffrey Bindmans QC, Stephen Grosz QC, Saimo Chahal QC, and Lynn Knowles.

SaharaReporters has consistently reported that Kanu was arrested inside a car, and not while strolling as some reports have claimed.

SaharaReporters had reported, quoting a top source, that "Kanu had arrived in Kenya and settled down in a house. On June 19, 2021, he drove himself in a car to the international airport to meet a person arriving in the country for a high-level IPOB meeting.

"He drove into the underground parking lot at the airport and was arrested before exiting the car.

"He was taken to a house and brutalised for 8 days while the Nigerian authorities perfected how to forcefully relocate him to Nigeria.

"He was travelling on a British passport, not a Nigerian passport as alleged by Malami. He was brought into Nigeria on a Saturday and arraigned on Monday.

"Buhari upon learning of his abduction decided to cancel his trip to the UK to manage the diplomatic fallouts at home instead of going to London.

"Kanu was interrogated in the presence of his lawyers in the DSS office in Abuja.

"He was taken out of Kenya without passing through immigration."

There have been reports that INTERPOL was involved in Kanu's arrest but the top dismissed that, saying "INTERPOL wasn’t involved".

Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, confirmed that Kanu had been rearrested.

At a joint press briefing with the State Security Service (SSS), also known as the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja, Malami said Kanu was rearrested and returned to Nigeria on Sunday, June 27.

He did not, however, give details of where Kanu was arrested and the diplomatic collaborations that may have been involved in the operation.

According to him, the IPOB leader was arrested through “collaborative efforts of Nigerian intelligence and security services”.

Kanu, who is being prosecuted on charges of treasonable felony, was thereafter arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja. It was his first court appearance since he fled Nigeria in September 2017 after an invasion of his home by the military in Afara-Ukwu, near Umuahia in Abia State.

Sunday Igboho crippled, Nnamdi Kanu incarcerated, Gumi, Miyetti Allah protected – Nigerians react

Reactions have continued to trail the recent moves by the Federal Government to cripple agitationd for secession in the Southeast and Southwestern parts of the country.

DAILY POST recalls that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Southeast secessionist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, was rearrested from an undisclosed country to continue his trial in the country after jumping bail in 2017.

Kanu who holds a dual citizen of both British and Nigeria, is currently being remanded in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS).

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja presided by Justice Binta Nyako gave the order on Tuesday.

According to the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed who addressed newsmen on Thursday, the fugitive was re-arrested following the efforts of the Nigerian Security and Intelligence Agencies in collaboration with authorities of other countries.

FG arrested Kanu with the aim of ending the rising agitations for the actualization of Biafra, an agitated sovereign nation for the Southeastern people (Igbos).

Similarly, the DSS on Wednesday night stormed the residence of a Yoruba activist, the major pioneer of the Yoruba nation (Oduduwa) in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital where about two of his allies were gunned down.

Igboho who had successfully conducted the Yoruba nation’s rally in some states in the Southwest, had prior to the invasion of his residence by DSS, scheduled a mega rally in Lagos State on Saturday, July 3rd.

Spokesman of the service, Peter Afunanya, while declaring the secessionist wanted during a press briefing on Thursday night, also paraded no fewer than 12 suspects arrested during the operation.

But some Nigerians who reacted to the developments were sceptical on why the security agencies are clamping down on ‘innocent’ agitators while “terrorist sympathisers” particularly Ahmed Gumi and the Miyetti Allah are allowed to go free despite indications of ties with bandits and other criminals. Others, however, are of the views that the agitators have overstretched the limits in their actions and utterances.

A Facebook user, Miracle Brave who took to his page to express disappointment on the development alleged that the president is more of a “destroyer than a Messiah,” as he was believed to be.

He said, “Kanu is advocating for the freedom of Biafra (the creation of the state of Biafra for the South East and South-South).

“Igboho is advocating for the safety of his people in the Sout West against the menace of Fulani Herdsmen. He also calls for the creation of the Oduduwa Nation.

“Gumi is advocating for bandits who have been kidnapping students and other citizens in the North. The bandits have also been killing and destroying lives and property.

“Those in the Southern parts are being arrested and declared wanted for championing courses while the bandits in the North and their leader despite being rebellious without a reasonable course are being pampered and treated well.

“Is this the (rtd) Major General Muhammadu Buhari we were told would be the messiah of Nigeria if we elect him to be our President?

“How come he’s now being more of a destroyer than a Messiah? Definitely, we’ve been caught up! Thank goodness I never believed in the so-called messiah from the onset and have never cast my vote for him. Those who did should start apologizing to Nigerians now”.

Another user, Marley Otsayi said, “Sheikh Gumi knows the unknown gunmen but no security agent has ransacked his house yet or even questioned him. What a country!

“Meanwhile, somewhere in the North they turn up for meetings with AK-47”.

Comr Onogwu Peter in his page said, “In my country, once you become a threat to government in favour of the innocent citizens, boom they will set you up for the best reason known to them”.

Similarly, a former presidential aide, Reno Omokri while reacting to the development, described the Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho as a hero, saying President Muhammadu Buhari and the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai are “terror enablers”.

According to him, “Buhari is a terror enabler for rehabilitating Boko Haram,
Masari is a terror enabler,
El-Rufai is a terror enabler.

“Leave Igboho and face the terror sympathisers and enablers.

“What moral authority does a government that held a graduation party for terrorists, that sewed new clothes for them, that bought shoes and socks for them, that bought food and drinks for their party, have for arresting Sunday Igboho, a man who helps us fight killer herdsmen?”

Also, in a chat with DAILY POST, a legal practitioner, Barrister John Odeigwu alleged that the president has a hidden agenda for sparing Gumi and the Miyetti Allah.

“This Miyetti Allah have never been invited by any security agency despite their terrorist activities across the country. This may be because it has to do Fulani.

“The other one that is always meeting and advocating for bandits in the North has been allowed to move freely because he is also a Northerner. So it is obvious that the battle is against the South,” he said.

But a veteran journalist who does not want her name mentioned is of the opinion that Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu went too far in their agitations for self-determination. According to her, you can still be peaceful in your agitation both in action and utterances, yet achieve your goals.

“You can’t be inciting people against the government, causing crisis here and there, yet expect the government to keep watching you helplessly. Government is government any day.”

PoliticsGunmen Kidnap Another Ekiti Monarch by Insecurity(op): 4:16pm On Jun 26, 2021
Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted the Eleda of Eda Ile, in Ekiti East Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Oba Benjamin Oso.

The monarch was said to have been kidnapped in the presence of his wife at their farm at Eda Ile on Friday evening.

This happened barely two months after the Obaadu of Ilemeso, in Oye local government, Oba David Oyewumi, was abducted by unknown gunmen.

A source, who craved anonymity, told journalists in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, on Saturday, that the monarch and the wife would have been kidnapped, but for pleas by the traditional ruler.

“The Oba and his wife went to the farm and were accosted by these gunmen. The two would have been kidnapped, but the monarch begged the bandits to free his wife, which they agreed with”, he said.

The Commander of the Ekiti State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, Brig Joe Komolafe, confirmed the abduction.

Akomolafe said all the security outfits in Ekiti, including police, soldiers, Amotekun corps, local hunters and vigilance groups are already in the forests searching for the monarch.

INSECURITY: "Leave Nnamdi Kanu Alone"- Shehu Sani Drops Bombshell, Urge Northern Group To Place Bounty On Their Leaders Head
Opinion_PollJun 18, 2021

Shehu Sani has finally reacted to the bounty placed on Nnamdi Kanu' s head by northen group. Shehu Sani urge the northen group to leave Nnamdi Kanu alone and focus on the insecurity in the north. He said the north has more problems than the east and they must solve their own personal problems first.

Shehu Sani said it is very sad that a group from the north has placed bounty on the head of someone who is from the east. Shehu Sani said the northern group are interfering in what does not concern or affects them directly. He said the north has many probelms that needs urgent attention but the IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu is not one of their problem.

Recall that the Northen group had earlier released a public statement calling for the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the IPOB. The group accused Nnamdi Kanu of the insecurity in the east which has led to the death of many easterners and the destruction of government properties. The northen group earlier promised to give 100 million to whoever have good information on Nnamdi Kanu' s location. The group also called for the help of International organisation to assist in the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu.

Meanwhile, Shehu Sani said that the real problem of the country lies in the north. He said the north knows their probelms but they have decided to ignore them. He told the northern group to use the 100 million bounty for something good in their region. He urge them to place in on their leaders head in the north and not on Nnamdi Kanu' s head.

Shehu Sani said the Northen group should direct their energy, time and resources to end the problem of insecurity which has led to the death of many northerners. He said many people are being killed on a daily basis and that is what they should be concerned about. They should find a way to solve their problems rather than interfering in the problem of the east.

PoliticsBandits Kill 41 Farmers In Zamfara Fresh Attacks, One Police Officer Shot Dead by Insecurity(op): 6:37am On Jun 07, 2021
Cop dead as bandits kill 41 farmers in Zamfara fresh attacks

BANDITS have again killed 41 farmers in Tofa and Samawa villages in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

An indigene of the area, who gave his name as Malam Balarabe, informed The PUNCH that the bandits invaded the area when the farmers were planting their crops and others were clearing their farms.

“They came suddenly and began to shoot at the farmers, killing many of them,” Balarabe stressed.

He further explained that the bandits also blocked the road leading to the two villages where they also killed other farmers returning to their houses.

Their mission was only to kill those who went to their farms,” Balarabe added.

The spokesperson of the state Police Command, Mohammed Shehu, said, “Combined Police Tactical operatives were not alerted until after they (bandits) might have finished their onslaught on Tofa community. We have yet to be ascertained the number of villagers that were killed.

However, as the bandits left Tofa on their way to Samawa village for similar attack, the Police Tactical operatives stationed at Samawa village were quickly alerted where they mobilised and engaged the assailants in a serious gun battle that lasted for hours.

“As a result of the encounter, unspecified number of bandits was fatally injured (killed), while others escaped with possible gunshot wounds. No loss of life from the community in Samawa, but regrettably, a police operative paid the supreme price during the gun battle with the bandits,” Shehu said

How Herdsmen Attacked Taraba Communities, Massacred Residents In Their Sleep
As of the time of filing this report, no fewer than 12 dead bodies were said to have been recovered from the scenes of the two separate attacks.

After sacking Benue State communities, dare-devil herders continued their reign of terror when they attacked Bali and Gassol councils in Taraba State, shooting dead scores of residents during a midnight raid.

As of the time of filing this report, no fewer than 12 dead bodies were said to have been recovered from the scenes of the two separate attacks.

The separate attacks, which occurred in Sabon-Gida village of Gassol Council and Pangari village of Bali, were said to have been perpetrated by the herders.

A source told Daily Post that the herders stormed the communities at night when the residents were deep asleep.

Some persons who claimed to have narrowly escaped the scenes also told our correspondent that apart from the killings and injuries inflicted on residents of the communities, massive destruction of valuables also took place.

The leader of one of the affected communities said, “As I am talking with you now, we have so far recovered twelve dead bodies in a nearby bush in Sabon-Gida village of Gassol council.”

While two persons were as well confirmed to have been killed by the suspected herdsmen in the Pangari community of Bali council, several other persons were as well said to have been injured in the said Bali council.

Confirming the incident, which he said had also led to massive displacements of the people, the Tiv Cultural and Social Association chairman, Bali chapter, Matthew Baki, told our correspondent that two persons were killed in Bali “with several others badly injured.”

He said the attack in the Bali community, which led to the killing of two persons, occurred at about 2 a.m., adding that the “police came in this morning to evacuate the corpse and took those injured to Bali General hospital.”

Also confirming the separate attacks, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), David Misal, said efforts to track down the perpetrators were in top gear.

The leadership of the state chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) accused Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku of alleged refusal to wade into the ongoing killings.

PoliticsPolice Kill Two and Arrest 5 Gunmen Who Attack Osun Town by Insecurity(op): 7:13am On May 15, 2021
Panic As Gunmen Attack Osun Town, Kill Two
Five of the hoodlums were arrested while others escaped into the bush with bullet wounds.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident on Friday, saying five of the hoodlums were arrested while others escaped into the bush with bullet wounds.

At the time of filing this report, the real cause of the crisis could not be ascertained as residents of the town were scampering for safety.

It was gathered that armed hoodlums, numbering about 30, stormed the house of one Wakili Olayiwola and started shooting indiscriminately.

A Toyota corolla car belonging to the 42-year-old man was burnt down in the house and the hoodlums also attempted to raze down the building.

Policemen arrived at the scene on time and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel and the policemen eventually overpowered the hoodlums.

The PPRO gave the names of the suspects as Suleiman Babatunde, Saka Taofeek, Raimi Saheed, Akinloye Quwiyu and Sadio Alatise.

The Police’s spokesperson said the hoodlums killed two persons, Rilwan Kareem and Taofeek Aje.

The PPRO said the corpses of the two persons had been deposited at a mortuary for autopsy.

Opalola told Daily Trust that one single barrelled gun, one Dane gun, 8 expended cartridges, axes, cutlasses, charms and five motorcycles were recovered from the hoodlums.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Wale Olokode, has launched an investigation into the incident and assured that all the hoodlums who escaped would be apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law.

Terrorists in South-West planning attacks on Redemption Camp, Winners, mosques – Akintoye

A Second Republic Senator and a renowned Historian, Prof. Banji Akintoye, has alerted governors in the South-West that the entire region has already been surrounded by terrorists.

Akintoye, who is the leader of Ilana Omo Oodua, the umbrella body for Yoruba self-determination groups, informed the governors in a letter written to them that the terrorists were ready to strike any moment from now.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by his media aide, Mr Maxwell Adeleye.

He urged the government to begin to make moves to scuttle the planned attacks by the criminals, adding that the hoodlums had perfected plans to attack important places in order to wreck the economy of the region.

Akintoye in the statement also advised the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye; Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners’ Chapel; and other church and Islamic leaders to protect their churches and mosques from being attacked.

He also called on Yoruba youths to be more vigilant and prevent the influx of terrorists into the region.

Akinyoye said, “A combination of Fulani terrorists, Boko Haram and ISIS, have occupied Niger State, which is immediately north of Yorubaland, thereby providing for themselves very easy access into Yorubaland through the Yoruba parts of Kwara and Kogi states.

PoliticsWhy North Doesn't Want Nigeria To Break Up — Arewa Consultative Forum by Insecurity(op): 9:21pm On May 10, 2021
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has revealed that Northern Nigeria will never support secession calls because there's nothing wrong with the extant structure in the country.

Across the country, calls for secession have continued to gain momentum.

There are the Indigenous People of Biafra in the South-East while there are agitators for the independence of the Oduduwa nation in the South-West.

But in an interview with SaharaReporters on Monday, ACF's spokesman, Emmanuel Yawe, said the North can never support secessionists because Nigeria is relatively okay the way it is.

Yawe further stated that secession attempts would only worsen the problems ravaging the country and could even lead to a civil war.

He said, “There is no way any part of Nigeria will secede without a civil war. We are so integrated that it is impossible for us to sit at a conference table and allow each part to go their ways, it's not possible, it's not a tea party, there will be war. If any part of Nigeria wants to secede, there will be war, maybe even more serious war than what we had before between 1967 and 1970. So, if anyone is calling for secession, he's calling for war.

“And we in the North fought the war to keep this country together, so it will be a contradiction for those of us who tried to stop this country from breaking up to now be engaging in activities that will break this country; we don't want this country to break up. Nigeria is a great country as it is. We have problems but those problems are not enough for us to break up.

“We believe these problems can be remedied and these problems will only be multiplied if we go into war. We love the country. We don't like what some people are doing with the country but for us to have come from the biggest black nation on earth, it is an honour and we should try to preserve this honour. We should try to see how we can use the resources we have to build a great world power. The rest of Africa is looking up to us and they feel sad when we behave as if we want to break up the country they all look up to. We don't want the country to break up. It is better the way it is, even with all the problems.”

The national leader of the pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo, had also earlier explained why the North would never want the country to break up.

Adebanjo, who had always consistently called for restructuring, recently condemned the unyielding attitude of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to calls for constitutional reforms and resource control.

Adebanjo had over time explained that the current constitution favourably places Northern Nigeria over the South.

He was quoted as saying, “...The constitution we have now is an imposed constitution by the military and the problem we are having in the country now is because of this constitution.

“People should get that clear. It appears both Garba Shehu and his boss, Muhammadu Buhari, don’t want to address the question. I have said that this constitution is a fraudulent constitution; it is not the constitution we agreed on at independence. It is not the constitution Sir Ahmadu Bello, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the founding fathers of this country agreed on at independence. Whether you are talking about resource control, state police, all these agitations have been settled and that is what is causing the crisis in the country today.

“So, when the military said they are going back to the barracks in 1999, Afenifere and the National Democracy Coalition (NADECO) said ‘send us back to the constitution you met us with because this is not the constitution of our founding fathers.’ So, the question of restructuring is to restructure the country back to federalism which our founding fathers agreed on.

“This unitary form of government with all its impositions which have enslaved the South to the North was imposed on us by the military.

“It is the military that created more states in the North; it is the military that created more local governments in the North. It is the military that said that revenues would be shared on the basis of local governments and you people are not addressing it. These are questions you need to answer; why is that so? You don’t stay in a club that is not favourable to you.”
