Mustay: I don't concur with point 2.
Unless you do not lock your PC when not in use or it is not a laptop (i.e. it is a desktop that remains at the office) or you do not browse in 'privacy', I see no reason why an employee should have access (even by peeping) to your PC.
Moreover, you can have folders where you keep such stuffs that are 'confidential' to you or delete the browsing history and cache if you do not want the address to pop out when sharing stuff with your colleague(s). Mustay, from your comments so far it is very evident that you are not the average Nigerian and that you are smart. But you need to make room for those who do not even know what a Cache or browser history is not to talk of knowing how to clear it. It is just easier and way better if you do not do your job search at work. #Insidify |

Nice one insidifyguru, but am guilty of No. 2 though. Thank you. Please be careful, just like @uboma said, your browser history can be called up and it might not go down well with your present employer to find that you've been searching for jobs on company time. |

Searching for a job while employed brings along some perks; you have an advantage of experience, you don’t have to worry so much about not getting the intended job, and your bank account almost doesn’t deflate since you already have a source of income—provided your employer does not find out.
Knowing how to search for a job without your employer finding out requires a great deal of planning and discreetness as shoddiness in such a search may put you in difficult conversations and even attract severe consequences which can see you kicked off important projects or fired before the time you intend to resign.
Here are five hints to guide you in your job search without your employer finding out:
1. Do not for any reason hint about it on social media Social media is gradually breaking down the boundaries between your work and personal life since you will most likely have as friend or followers, co-workers and bosses who see everything you write or upload.
If you want to search for a job without your employer finding out, do not complain/whine about the job. Do not even give the faintest hint about it in any of your status updates or tweets.
2. Avoid using your company’s computer to conduct your search Try not to use your company’s tools to conduct your search, you may never know who is snooping. A co-worker may stumble upon your browsing history and discover you just applied for a job or your boss may see your freshly printed resume and put you in the witness box.
Best advice: If you want to search for jobs without your employer finding out, don’t do it at your workplace.
3. If it’s possible, do not schedule interview for midday Searching for a job while employed may not offer you the flexibility of time but if you have the opportunity to influence your interview schedule, schedule for very early in the morning or late in the day. Your boss is less likely to notice you are missing at those times.
4. Be careful how you dress Suddenly showing up in suits, impeccably dressed for the first time in several months is a deadly giveaway that you are scheduled for an interview. If you are searching for a job while employed and you have the leeway to plan ahead, it is best to start wearing that nice suit more frequently so that everyone can adjust to seeing you in it.
In summary, being able to craft a very good plan and being very tactical at its execution will help you conduct a successful job search without your employer detecting.

meritdee: What the vice president had is a resume, not CV.
A resume is the summary of your experience, skills and education which is mostly a page or two pages.
When you are asked to submit your CV, you wanna be more detailed especially in your experience, skills and education.
CVs can't be less than two pages except if you use tiny fonts.
Nice points btw Thank you for those clarifications. I'm positive those who didn't know the difference between a Résumé and a CV will know now. You are correct on both counts. Thanks again for your insightful comments. #Insidify |

SeverusSnape: Nice points, But the 1st one sounds awkward, what then should be the heading? ...'My Profile'?. By inserting the heading 'curriculum vitae' doesn't mean we're tutoring them. You are correct. It may not mean you are tutoring but, because you won't be there to state that, it is better to err on the side of caution. You don't need to head it with anything, just delve right into it with your name... The email subject should already take care of the heading. Thank you for your comments. |

akereconfi: Nice one OP. I am in my second year about to go on a full year internship. And according to my school employability team, your personal profile, work experience/skills is what most employers are looking out for.
I know two guys that finished with first class and third class respectively from first year, but the third class guy has already been shortlisted for interview.
Reason: His Experience Thank you for your kind words and thanks for sharing this as a validation. |
