Vesuvius:Sending a cover letter via mail can be basically in two forms: 1. Writing the cover letter as a message in the space provided by your email provider and sending or 2. Sending the cover letter as an attachment. However, whichever means you decide to send your cover letter through, it should not be addressed the same way you would if you were writing with the conventional pen and paper. It is advisable that the cover letter be formatted like your CV (which of course will also be an accompanying document with your cover letter) when crafting it. Sending your cover letter is usually the more appropriate means as it allows for a professional feel and you don't run the risk of everything you've typed being jumbled together upon being received by the recruiter. Hope this helps. #Insidify P.S: you can drop your email address here to get a sample copy of a cover letter to better help you understand the above. |
Does The Godfather, Lincoln, Les Miserables, or the Dark Knight trilogy jingle any bell? If it does, then, you have probably seen (or heard of) some of the best method acting performances in Hollywood. But are you aware of the length famous method actors like Robert Deniro, Daniel Day-Lewis, James Franco, Al Pacino, Christian Bale, and Angelina Jolie go, to give you that two hours of astounding satisfaction? What is method acting anyway? Method acting is a technique in which actors immerse themselves completely (physically, emotionally, and psychologically) into their characters to give their audience a life-like performance. Method actors live the lives of their characters on and off the set. They learn new languages, take up new jobs, and master the habits of their characters. They sometimes also undergo extreme weight gain/loss and complete isolation in a bid to give the best performances. What business lessons can you learn from this? Business lesson 1. Create value Method actors don’t just decide to be aberrant. Their actions are fueled by the need to deliver the utmost performances for their audience. This is one of the numerous reasons they are revered and the demand for their services never wanes. Business lesson 2. Downplay attention on competition In an industry that is saturated with thousands of actors, method actors focus on churning out the best services. They do not give a lot of attention to the performance of other thespians. Business lesson 3. Choose quality over quantity Method actors do not worry their heads about the number of movies they feature in, for them acting is more than just a means of livelihood. Business owners are usually tempted to compromise quality for quantity, this way they tend to lose faithful customers when consumers don’t trust the durability of their product. Business lesson 4. Work hard Method acting is not for the faint-hearted, it is physically and mentally demanding like a thousand other jobs in the world and these actors have been able to conquer territories by working extra hard. Giving that extra kilojoule of work might just be all you need to achieve your business goal. Do you think this post is helpful? What do you think about these business lessons? Please, leave a comment. Culled from http://www.insidify.com/discovery/4-vital-business-lessons-from-method-acting

It is a job-hunting rule of thumb to carry out a proper research of a potential employer before honoring any invitation to a session primed with barrages of confidence-deflating questions coined softly as an interview. Everyone knows this. But if you don’t, now you do. A very well-conducted employer research ups your chances of landing a position in any organization. How? For starters, it makes you answer questions more intelligently and confidently. Not to mention that it can help tilt the conversation in your favour and you can through this employer research, sell yourself while stroking your interviewer’s ego. But how exactly do you carry out a good employer research? 1. Visit the organization’s website A good employer research on the web is one where you are actively scanning for the company’s year of establishment, projects, announcements, promotions, awards and recognition, products and services, financial information, locations, divisions, departments, and subsidiaries. You will not believe the kind of information some interviewers expect you to know about their companies. This is why your employer research has to be solid. 2. Ask around The motivation for this method of researching employers is to obtain information concerning company culture, values, salary scale, employee welfare and benefits, trainings and speed of progression on the company’s ladder. You won’t find this on the web so you should ask people that have worked, is working, or knows someone who works there. These will better arm you for the interview. 3. Check out professional networking sites Visit sites like www.insidify.com and www.linkedin.com to run a search on the company and see which of the people in your network work there when researching employers. You can then contact these people for more accurate information as regards the company and what to expect in the interview. 4. Do a background check on employees Part of an impressive employer research is checking the background of top employees. You can also do the same for any other employee you know may sit on the interview panel. This can easily be done when you run a search on the company on LinkedIn. What you should look out for is what interests the employee and use that to your advantage in the interview. 5. Visit company review sites Finally, you won’t also go wrong by visiting a site like www.glassdoor.com in your bid to research employers. What the site does is collect anonymous employee reviews of the company which could be on anything from company culture to salary and workloads. Have you ever tried any of this? Has it worked for you? Leave a comment for me. Culled from http://www.insidify.com/discovery/5-ways-you-should-research-employers-before-any-interview |
He was all sweaty and anxious when he went in for the interview. It was not his fault; he simply was not prepared for it. Nothing he was taught in school had prepared him for how to handle anxiety bouts and certainly nothing on what to do when facing a panel of professionals asking you about the fundamentals of what you studied and if you have any extra skills-things you can do besides what you studied in school. Luck also was definitely not on his side as he had also forgotten to switch off his cell phone which had gone off with a violent ring disrupting the peaceful atmosphere of the interview session. You need not ask if he got the job. He successfully lost it. It’s not her fault she did not land the job. She had been made to believe that one does not need anything beyond what’s on the certificate. All through her stay on campus, she had read, signed up for the ‘right’ restricted electives and snorted at the so called ‘wrong ones’-the ones which even though are very important to what she wants to do after graduation are CGPA-sappy courses. Now, it had cost her. Her classmate who took all the ‘wrong’ restricted electives had gotten the job while she...had lost it. The knowledge of those courses turned out to be so important than what her certificate looked like. As a prospective job seeker, there are things you must understand-things no lecturer teaches in classrooms, important things- before going in search of a job or responding to calls for interviews; things like how to structure an engaging and acceptable CV, skill acquisitions and internship opportunities, how to go about job interviews, what and what not to do during these interviews, how to select courses as a student which will benefit your career later, job opportunities, how to get the needed experience for securing jobs etc. The knowledge of these and much more is freely made available and easily accessible on our Jobs, Career, and Productivity blog, Discovery! http://www.insidify.com/discovery |
