Local transport:

Don't kill your chances even before you get into the game. When you’re applying for a job, your aim is to get the recruiter interested in you. Your email is one great way to achieve this.

When you're applying for a job through email, avoid these common mistakes you might be making.

EMPTY SUBJECT LINES
If you’re leaving the subject line empty or using a crappy subject line such as -
“My CV”
“Job Application”
“Updated CV”
“Esther’s CV”
You risk your email remaining unopened because your subject line isn’t clear enough.

When applying, use the position you're applying for as your subject. Such as
“Application for Customer Service Position / Your Name”.

The recruiter might have multiple vacant positions and would appreciate your efforts when you clearly state the position you’re interested in.

*Note* if you’ve been instructed on how to apply, always follow the instructions given. .

SENDING EMPTY EMAILS
If you’re in the habit of sending your emails without a body or with just a simple “please find attached” then you’re sending the wrong impression.

It should have an INTRODUCTION, a BODY and a CLOSING. Your email is an opportunity to impress the hiring manager; use it wisely.

MISMATCHED FONTS, SIZE AND ALIGNMENT
Do not send an email with different fonts and sizes. If you’re copying and pasting from different sources (not recommended) ensure you harmonize the fonts and size before your email goes out and lastly, ensure it is properly aligned. .

SPACING IS VERY IMPORTANT! USE SEVERAL PARAGRAPHS.
Do not clump all your words into one paragraph and hit the send button. Not only does this look unappealing, you make it difficult for the recruiter to skim through your email with ease.

ATTACH YOUR DOCUMENTS
You don’t want the recruiter thinking you don’t pay attention to details. Always remember to attach all the documents you intend to send, most preferably in PDF format.

NAME YOUR FILES APPROPRIATELY
Your CV should carry your full name, not “Shade’s CV” and definitely not “My CV”. All documents should be named in a way that makes it easy for the recruiter to find you
