CareerRe: Computer Science: Where Can I Work? by Intelligentdude(m):
Hello OP,I want to believe that you are joking because you should be aware of the opportunities in Computer Science right from your 100level.Let me school you a bit with the believe that you have a vague knowledge about your course.
As a Computer Science graduate, you can work as a Software developer(Java,C#,Python,Erlang etc).
So you know,in Nigeria presently, skilled programmers earn a lot especially when you are conversant with Java.
If your motivation is getting steady work, then you should consider the option of a Web designer because the demand for websites and revamped websites is high.
Also,as a Computer graduate, you can work as a Business System Analyst. It requires both technical expertise and client relationship skills.
As a Computer Graduate, you can work as a Quality Assurance Officer (Some Companies combine the BA and QA role together).
As a Computer graduate, you can work as a Network/Telecom Engineer (You need CCNA,CCNP knowledge etc for this role).
As a Computer graduate, you can work in different organisations as an IT support Personnel( You should be conversant with MCSA,MCSE,CCNA).
As a Computer graduate, you can start your own Company.I will advice you read the story of these CEOs who have carve a niche for themselves in the world of Technology. Terragon Group(Umeh),Seamfix Nigeria Ltd(Chimezie),VibeSolutions,Greenmouse Technologies(Victor Nwadinobi). If you are considering starting your own coy, their Story will inspire you.Cheers

I don't think I have any preferences. Any company that would provide me with the opportunity to develop myself professionally , Ofcourse i wouldn't mind. Have submitted Cv's to various Coys electronically but all I get is GNLD invites.
I will advice you change this mindset Sir.You should have targeted companies in mind. Note, the first two companies you work with after your youth service will determine your overall career fulfilment in the long run.Choose wisely but if you want to start getting genuine interview invites, check my signature.

Hello people, For those of us that are in the job hunting market, it is quite advisable to engage an experienced person to do a review of your C.V.

Giving your C.V a face lift is a way of rebrading yourself, and it also gives someone else an opportunity to tell a beautifully crafted story of you.

I wish to recommend to you someone here on this thread that has really done a great job on my C.v

@ Intelligentdude I profoundly thank you for the work you did on my C.V, I am glad for the time you spent painstakinly crafting and restructuring a C.V for me. I have never had someone else review my C.V, but after giving you an oppurtunity to do so, I discovered that one cannot have knowledge of every thing, you simply made me see myself from a different perspective.

Thanks for your good work. And i advise anyone that cares to please engage someone to look at your C.V. Intelligentdude is a great person.

And he even gives a great guideline for cover letter.
Thanks very much for the recommendation, I am glad that my skill is speaking for itself. Cheers

Why Companies don't Call you after applying as a Graduate Intern.
Food for thought:
Most Companies are very careful as regard accepting Graduate Interns, this is because they won't want to train and equip you with relevant skills only for you to leave after six months to join their competitor.I understand that lots of graduates are complaining that Companies want personnels with experience, and lots of fresh graduates are wondering how they can get the needed experience if they don't have the opportunity.
My Advice:
When next you are drafting your application letter/cover letter, put something like this in it;I wish to join your Organization as a Graduate intern so I can get the necessary skills and expertise in my field and also build my career in your organization to a point where my contribution to your Organization will be glaring to all and sundry.

hello house. i hv BSc Accounting ( First Class hons) plus ICAN in view.looking for a job. Will complete NYSC october by Gods grace.
Just a quick one,are you teaching@NYSC?If you are working in the Account Department of an Organization, kudos to you but if you are teaching, you will need to attach yourself in a small organization where you can refresh your accounting knowledge. Meanwhile this is the time to start applying for KPMG,Accenture etc.Visit career pages of different companies of your choice and submit your CV there.Ideally,an average company takes three months when recruiting, so you can do your interview while serving and before you know it,you will be called to resume immediately after your Service.

Good day Nairalanders,

I am a Sociology graduate (2:1) from the university of portharcourt. I have completed my NYSC program where I served at Kogi State University.
I have a wealth of experience in sales (1yr) ICT (3yrs) and human resoutces/management (1yr), yet still the jobs are not coming.
I have more than 20 different CVs and accompaning cover letters in my system and I have applied to so many companies that I cant even keep count and apart from the usual GNLD scam interviews and accessbank which I did not get, I have not been called for interviews.
Please I need help from any quarter as I am an only child and have people depending on me, if it was just me I wouldnt bother sef. I am loyal and honest, a quick learner and I am able to work in a team or autonomously when required. I am ever available to prove my capabilities whenever and wherever needed.
Sir it is not really about having 20 CVs,it is having the right CV.From what I can see,you need just 3 CVs base on your experience each tailored to fit into each role you have occupied at a particular point in time. The question is,what career path do you want to follow?
