I got visa on arrival in early 2012, conditions are you having a valid UK European American or canadian Visas, but seeing as that was three years ago, i don't know if they cancelled it now or not, please confirm from the airline and/or embassy. And this transit visa is only useful if you intend to leave the airport.

For the free hotel, Do you have over 10hours layover? if you do you may qualify, pleasecall to ask. We didn't qualify for free hotel because there was an earlier connecting flight but they (immigration) asked to see at least 200$ for all four of us because we didnt book a hotel.

Oh thanks for the info, with the information you have given me I have just search from the website of Turkish foreign affairs and finds out that they no longer give visa on arrival to Nigerians, how ever we can apply online for what they call "e-visa" before our travel, my layover is about 6 hours, and the airline has a free tourism service for all interested passengers having at least 6 hours layover...sims like i will apply for the so called e-visa.

the truth is don't expect 100% customer satisfaction every airline has it in and off days a friend warned me not to fly with Turkish airline while another guy I know credited them for their effort wen he flew with them

Thanks...I think everyone has his personal experience...I wont expect 100% satisfaction since I'm not rich enough to travel first class grin So all I want is to reach Canada safe and sound....and save some money at the same time smiley

turkish air is amazing. used them one time to the uk. if u have a long stopover you might get a free hotel. not sure if visa on arrival still works for Nigerians, so you might have to apply online.

back to lurk mode

Hi, thanks for your response...please I need more clarification about the visa on arrival or applying online. I intend to use this airline and will be paying probably later today...as a Nigerian do I need Visa to transit through Istanbul Artaturk airport?

when applying for admission to usask did you email any professors and how long did it take them to give you a reply
i emailed some profs and i've not received any reply since the past 2 weeks and admission for fall ends july 30.

No I haven't email any potential supervisor...I think it depends on your department and the course, some departments require you to get a supervisor first and some doesn't.

Actually after the department review my application, a professor (also happens to be the graduate chair of our department) contact me saying he's so much interested in my application, my grades, and what I wrote in my Statement Of Purpose. He told me his area of reaserch interest and ask me if I'm interested in doing my reaserch with him and offer to give me full funding if I'm interested, but he ask me to define my own reaserch topic and what I know in the field of my reaserch topic to know if I'm worthy of the award.

Check some few pages back on this thread, I have shared some tips on getting a potential reaserch supervisor.

Scroll up a bit and read Team12's contribution. She also had a first class. An eloquent, intelligent n knowledgeable first class material(plus masters sef) has a very good place in Nigeria except all ur friend did was 'cram' to pass even at dt, if she can try a bit to sell her degree, the sky is her limit. There's no bank dt wont employ her. I hope she's smart cos i don't understand why she cant get a job. She, not the employers, is causing demotivation for other students. She shouldn't sit on top bike ooo, n dulling herself.

I agree with you, I think good grades always sell, either in Nigeria or in any other country in the world, And I think it doesn't matter in which country you get the degree as long as you know what you are doing and you can depend your grades the sky is your limits. With first, class I think it only takes a little efforts to secure a good paying job even in the highly competitive Nigerian job market.

Thanks. I think my SOP is compelling. I included internship in relevant areas and talked about the research have done and also my reasons for choosing usask and the fact that I want to return to teach in the university. I also included a paper I published recently. My ptdf scholarship award for undergraduate, my scholarship award letter for masters, and employment letter for a job I just started in June. I am married but no kids. My wife is not resident in naija though. I just want gud education. I don't really care about settling down in their country.

Well sir I think you are good...just keep praying, you will soon receive good news from CIC...I wish you the very best while you wait.

I have a phd admission to usask with full funding. I didn't include any sponsor or my soa. Will dis affect my application in anyway? I will appreciate an answer from the house.

Don't let that bother you, it wouldn't affect your application... This people have high regards for people going for higher degree expecially with full funding... I know must USask graduate funding covers both tuition and living expenses... Your SOA is just an added advantage and you don't need a sponsor since your funding covers everything you need... You can have other home ties... I just hope u write a very convincing SOP to show the VO you are a passionate PhD student whose only intention of going to Canada is to do your PhD and return to Nigeria. There are lots of ways to show home ties... I used my long term goal and my plans in Nigeria after graduation for my home ties, since I don't have a job or family (wife and children).

And yes I'm speaking from experience, I also have full funding from USask thou I'm going for Masters, and as I write to you I have already gotten my TRV... Just waiting for my travel time which is probably ending August. But I have included my SOA as an added advantage since I have some amount In the account (which I never show how i get the money)... But it's never a must requirement for some one with full funding, I know of a friend going for PhD in SFU who applied and got his TRV with only funding latter, LOA, SOP...

But it can show u at least returned to naija after studying in Ukraine and may return after studying in Canada.... I believe GboyegaD applied from Yankee sef... not sure... hope he can confirm...

A friend of mine also applied from Saudi Arabia and gotten his visa within two weeks...and he's a student rounding up his maters and going to Canada for his Phd.

As an addendum to what u asked earlier. The currency of the little cash you want to bring for the first few days can be US Dollars, Euros or even Pounds, which can be gotten easily in Naija and exchanged inside the Airport in Canada, most peeps bring USD. As may know already CAD dollars is a traded currency in Naija for Wire transfer transactions so you can't readily get it in cash at a Bank in Naija, you may get lucky with the Bureau De Change but i doubt it.

Thanks, will come with U.S. Dollars

I've heard GTB is good.
Its best to take your card, and alittle cash, like a 100/200 dols incase you wne buy something at your stop over plus cab fare and few other stuff. Its not wise to carry too much cash as you might not be able to get to a bank ontime.

Oh thanks dear, that was helpful...

You would need to have some money on you for your first few days till you set up your bank account then send the bank details back home for a wire transfer. No one verifies the money on your debit or credit card, as par routine you may be asked if you have anytin to declare cash inclusive and you only have to if you are carrying cash above $10,000 if i remember correctly. Why would you want to have so much cash on you when coming it is not advisable. A majority of Nigeria Bank cards all work in Canada (Visa & Mastercard) @N240 charge per withdrawal double check with your bank that it is N240 oo so your peeps can credit you in Naija and you withdraw in Canada. No bring Verve ATM card ooo or you'll be on a long thing.

Thanks for the detailed explanation...

Quick one please. I want to submit my passport tomorrow in person. Do I have to pay the N7,690 for passport transmission? I understand that I don't have to pay if I am sending my passport to the same VAC as where I provided my biometric information. Please confirm.

Sorry i'm seeing this now, i hope its not late...NO you don't have to pay anything if you are submitting your passport to the same VAC you gave your biometrics...in fact if you live far from Lagos like me you can use a prepaid self addressed return courier to send and receive your passport, and you don't have to pay VAC anything, just your passport, passport request letter and the prepaid self addressed return envelope...its super fast...that's what i used, i sent may passport last week Tuesday and received it back on Tuesday this week with my TRV...

Depends on the officer that attends to you. As for me, all I showed the lady that attended to me the electronic copy of letter of admission from my school and my hotel accomodation approval (school arranged that one too) in addition to my passport of course. Was also asked a couple of questions. Really personal questions like where my Father works, if I have paid my fees etc.
The other guy that I travelled with was just asked what program he was coming to Canada for and his immigration officer was giving him advice about surviving in Canada and joking with him while processing his study permit. He also told him not to mess around with girls smiley

Oh...thanks for your reply, i just wanna make sure what to expect...but now i'm good...thanks

Depends on the border officer there. It is unlikely they ask you for financial proof, but you should be with your atm card to show you have access to funds. Also have the address of your destination.

Thanks, really appreciate your reply...God bless....

Hello,

Please a question for those that have traveled to Canada and collected their study permit at the point of entry before, where you ask to present any additional documents aside your POE letter of introduction, passport, letter of acceptance by the Canada Border officer before giving your study permits?

I read somewhere that we will still be ask to present other documents like proof of funds e.t.c...are we to show the statement of account we used to get TRV? please those people that goes through the process before should kindly help me share their experience...thank you
