Politics › APC Vs PDP: Which Political Party Has Better Internal Democracy? by Iolo(op): 9:01am On Aug 15, 2014 |
This is a poll to seek the opinion of the average Nigerian on how they perceive the main political parties in Nigeria based on their internal democracy. Either because they have policies that support internal democracy or their actions display its presence.
So who do you think has better democracy? APC or PDP. |

Health › Re: FG Not Serious About Fighting Ebola –doctors, Nurses by Iolo(m): 7:57am On Aug 11, 2014 |
etunoman76: The Lagos State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association and the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives have accused the Federal Government of not being proactive enough in the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease.
The doctors and nurses said at separate news conferences in Lagos on Sunday, that the government had yet to put in place adequate measures to protect health workers willing to manage those infected by the deadly virus.
The state NMA, through its chairman, Dr. Tope Ojo, therefore challenged the federal and Lagos state governments to provide protective kits and address the issue of hazard allowance for doctors, nurses and other health workers ready to be involved in treating infected persons.
It also faulted the life insurance cover announced by both the federal and state governments, saying its provisions had yet to be spelt out.
The NMA said, ‘‘Any health worker that is managing an Ebola patient is risking his/her life and that of his family. Ebola has killed over 61 doctors in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. It is a serious issue.
“You don’t just dangle life insurance without documents. We cannot endanger our lives unless we know what is at stake. We should be assured that should anything happen to us, our families are catered for.
“The terms of the insurance must be in public domain in a transparent manner.
“It is sad that it had to take an Ebola outbreak, for government to realise that health workers need life insurance cover.”
Also at the news conference, the association’s Secretary, Dr. Babajide Saheed, said it was imperative for both governments to put in place adequate infection control measures to effectively check the spread of the EVD.
Saheed said,” Please you journalists should visit the IDH(Infectious Diseases Hospital in Yaba and find out what the Federal Government has put in place for effective infection control.
“Please compare it to what health workers in Guinea and Liberia had while treating Ebola patients.
“Till now, the Federal and state governments have not come out with a concrete position on the life insurance cover they have offered to us and the public.
“By protecting health workers that are managing suspected or confirmed cases of Ebola, you are protecting the public from infections, because doctors are part of the society.”
The Lagos NMA also used the opportunity to declare that the nationwide strike by doctors had not been called off. Protecting their own selfish interest. This is about money plain and simple...hazard allowance or life insurance doesn't prevent Ebola. The government was even the one that instigated the life insurance cover so what are they complaining about. To crown it all they know the Government has made some efforts...yet they are still on strike. Can GEJ stop being a weakling and just start sacking NMA, JOHESU and whoever decides to stay on strike for petty reasons? Employ temp doctors and let's move this country forward without the unnecessary influence of unionists. |

solapex18ng: Ayo Fayose’s ISREALI - MADE VICTORY - ~By Lanre Oguntoyinbo
In the aftermath of the Ekiti election, a lot has been said to be the reason why the rather ‘performing’ incumbent Governor of that state, John Kayode Fayemi, lost to the former Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who is said to be a looter and a murderer. Some who are happy that Fayose won the election have also declared that though he’s their Governor but they don’t want him as their child’s role model but they would rather want their child to emulate the gentility and educational prowess of the incumbent Governor John Kayode Fayemi. I wonder how that makes any sense. You don’t want him as your child’s role model but you want him to be your Governor?! Funny country! Probably, the last may have not been heard of the Ekiti election. The ‘loser’ conceded defeat; hence some political analysts had called him a honourable man who is rewriting the political scripts of Nigeria’s polity. Some argued that he did that to allow peace to reign as the results of the election could incite violence, given the militarisation on ground by the by the Presidency before, during and after the election. However, a third group believe he was too quick to make that concession, saying Fayemi sold his lunch to the dog because of his gentility as the election was massively rigged and it might look free and fair but too far to be credible. One important point that’s being raised amongst the political class in Ekiti State is that the election was ‘photochromically’ rigged. The political party that sponsored the incumbent Governor; APC (All Progressive Congress) said the PDP (People’s Democratic Party) that sponsored the Governor-elect used a high-tech electoral malpractice system that has never been witnessed or used in Nigeria to rig the election. During my investigations, I then realised that indeed there was ‘photochromic’ ballot papers and these ballot papers were used in Zimbabwe. Robert Mugabe, who has performed woefully in office and known to be a dictator and whom almost lost his re-election in 2008 but enjoyed landslide victory in July 31 Presidential election. International observers and oppositions as declared that Mugabe’s victory is ‘Made In Israel’. ISREALI CONNECTION: It’s no news to many Nigerian that the PDP-led government at the centre are deeply involved with many Israeli deals, especially under this administration of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. We have read how Israelites are the one handling security outfits in Aso Rock to how they are awarded billions in contracts by this same government to monitor activities of Nigerians on internet especially Facebook and Twitter after the Occupy Nigeria protests. Reports also revealed that high delegations of Nigeria’s Presidency are always going in and out of Israel to strike deals that will turn Nigeria to a one party state. The company NIKUV is Israeli owned. It features majorly in electoral malpractices and African countries are their major client; countries like Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Nigeria, Angola, Botswana, Ghana and Lesotho. The company footprint was noticed in Africa in 1996 when the company was taken to court in Zambia on allegation of election rigging. This company have been in Zimbabwe for years and it also has standing relationship with Tobaiwa Mudede who is the registrar general of Zimbabwe whose office controls the production of Identification and electoral materials in Zimbabwe. NIKUV is also friends with Army Generals or Security Intelligence of state they operate from. PHOTO-CHROMIC MIGHT HAVE BEEN USED IN EKITI Findings reveal that high-tech rigging materials that are alien to Nigeria’s system was used to rig Ekiti election. A considerable portion of the ballot papers are said to be photochromically made. Photochromic ballot papers are deplored with the use of strange but special ink in an already patterned ballot paper which takes the thumb-printed ink straight to the marked columns, regardless of wherever a voter must have voted in the first place. Also, report on ground from those that voted in Ekiti seems to corroborate the photochromic theory; as it was revealed that the electoral officers in each polling booth would fold ballot papers in a rather funny bend before giving to electorate to exercise their franchise which has never been done in history of voting in Nigeria. It’s therefore revealed that such folding of the ballot papers is believed to have been done to prepare the paper for a swift movement of the ink within 50sconds to 2 minutes after voting to the already programmed column to suit their already written results. One major instance that made me believe in the photochromic theory is what happened in the polling booth of Engr. Olusegun Oni a former Governor of the state and a chieftain of APC.The leader went to his polling unit to vote in same unit with his wife, children and other relatives numbering about 11. Surprisingly, when the result was announced, APC had just one vote from that unit. The question is; was it that Segun Oni who is APC’s Vice Chairman South-West and family voted for PDP? Is the incumbent Governor that bad that nobody in that area who are sympathetic to his style of Governance? Even the gluttonous and corrupt Alao Akala never got it that bad in the election that removed him as Oyo State Governor. Also, one has to look at the performance of the incumbent Governor who has transformed the state and fixed major roads linking Ekiti State and other neighbouring states. He has reduced tensions due to assassinations in Ekiti with his gentleman kind style of governance, unlike when the Governor-elect was in power. He has succeeded in transforming Ekiti State to a better state than what she used to be. So with all his achievements, which political analysts and observers are said to have surpassed that of his predecessors, it is without doubt the election was technically rigged and the issue of photochromic materials is safe to be adjudged to be a true. If APC does not challenge this election in court, same might be repeated in Osun. In fact, it isadvisable for political actors to call for the inspection of voting materials before they are used for an election. As it concludes its plan to make Nigeria a single party state, the PDP federal government has so much eaten deep into our collective treasury cake; therefore, most Nigerianssuffer from extreme poverty. The PDP is now using ‘stomach infrastructure’ formula to gain access to our treasury(especially in South West). If they succeed, it’s going to be massive setback to development recorded in our democracy over the years. I hope Nigerians can use their tongue to count their teeth and not using the personal hatred or dislike for one man to judge the services of some patriotic foot soldiers who are passionate with the rescue mission they are embarking on. We need a rethink as it is dangerous sleeping on the bicycle. As it stand, I do not believe the election in Ekiti was free and fair.No one convince me that Ayodele Fayose won that election; I believe and take it that Foyose’s victory was ‘Isreali-Made.’ I’m Lanre Oguntoyinbo and I tweet with @lanreneville The opposition should not be making such unintelligible statements as these if they ever want to be taken seriously. My bad...didn't read it well. This means that the Governor may decline to receive the letter or acknowledge receipt. Gov Nyako is said to have been in Abuja as at when he was impeached yesterday. Which means he wasn't in the Government House and was even out of the state. Wonder how all this would play out in court. |

Goddex: The bolded refers, truth is, no govt makes such bold reforms in its first term. Opposition will use propaganda to bring you down eventhough noble and no President wants that. That is why a few of the reforms during OBJ were all done in his second term.
Take the issue of fuel subsidy removal last year when a crowd of Lagosians trooped out to occupy Ojota due largely to inciting propaganda from opposition. No govt will plunge itself into labour crisis and mass revolt barely a year to the next election. Have you asked yourself why Fashola did not ban Okada in his first term? I agree. Reforms that involve labour are always politicized anywhere in the world. Let's take an example, with the new constitution amendment being worked on, the senate wanted to take off the minimum wage component allowing states to set their own wages but the trade unions kicked against it. The challenge with running a government is that no matter how well intended your ideas are once they provide some form of temporary pain to the public, there would always be a kick against it by the labor and opposition looking to sway public opinion in thru favor. In the US, obamacare would never have passed today. I think GEJ just needs to do something drastic. Make some publically appealing moves like selling off his private and slashing his aides, then do something drastic like remove fuel subsidy. They country will burn but only till when people begin to feel the impact of the +900billion injected to our capital budget. |

Pukkah: At first I wanted to ignore your post because of its arrogance. Why would you label people posting here as 'mumus' who don't know the workings of the government? Do you know them?
The most knowledgeable people don't write off others or make condescending remarks about them.
Now to the topic.
All the points you made will be cancelled by this words from none less than Vice President Namadi Sambo. Hear him:
"The recurrent expenditures will be trimmed further from 71.5 per cent in 2012, to about 68.7 per cent in the 2013 budget, while the capital vote is expected to increase to 31.3 per cent from 28.5 per cent in 2012."
http://www.punchng.com/business/business-economy/well-reduce-recurrent-expenditure-to-68-7-sambo/
What's your comment on this? Why is the ratio worsening? You claimed minimum wage was effected in 2011 but Sambo made his remarks after then!
Where is the effect of the reduction in fuel subsidy payments on recurrent expenditure?
You also mentioned minimum wage. Didn't states implement the minimum wage?
You mentioned inflation rate. Did the inflation rate affect only the FG? It's good anyway that you said the rate later stabilized.
There's no point politicizing this topic. Nigeria belongs to all regardless of political party divide. It's pointless to label anyone with a dissenting view as haters, opposition or enemies. To address some of what you have raised , I would say that even NOI promised to reduce the recurrent aspect of our budget with a view to increasing the capital component but I'm sure that they have found it too thorny an issue to face squarely. The minimum wage was raised by 50% and salary packages for the various industries like conmess, and the ASUU package have also contributed. As regards the fuel subsidy and why its not reflected in the budget. The figures are not fresh in my head any longer but if I remember correctly much of the fuel subsidy was being paid by supplementary budgets. The government then would budget about 200 billion in d appropriation bill but would request for more money for fuel subsidy using supplementary bills as the occasion arises. |
Politics › Re: Balancing The Budget: Kano-State Vs FG by Iolo(m): 9:28am On Dec 26, 2013 |
Pukkah: Sacking of staff is not the only way to reduce recurrent expenditure.
In any case, why can't unproductive people be sacked? Why can't ghost workers and ghost pensioners be fished out?
A budget that funds recurrent expenditure to the tune of 72% can never develop Nigeria. This unacceptable lopsidedness is one of the reasons people are not feeling the impact of the FG. What can 28% achieve? How can a budget of 72% in recurrent expenditure create jobs?
As at 2006, recurrent expenditure was 66% of the budget and this level was even considered too high then.
Again, this is not Okonjo-Iweala's promise. She did tell us that government was resolved to reduce recurrent expenditure. What's happening!
https://www.nairaland.com/821355/must-cut-recurrent-budget-okonjo-iweala
@op, the recurrent expenditure in the budget is 72% and not 78%.
http://www.punchng.com/news/okonjo-iweala-presents-n4-6tr-budget-to-national-assembly/ I should have said that cutting staff strength is the only way to significantly reduce recurrent expenses. Its not the only way like you've said but no other option would give you anything more than 100 billion savings at best. Since 2006, a lot of things have changed. We now have an armed forces and police that gulp approx 1 trillion naira yearly. Our civil service has gained some weight as we also have more agencies. Cutting staff is always a touchy issue for governments but its the best means to reducing recurrent expenditure. This is why companies in financial trouble tend to cutdown staff before doing anything else. But with a government you have the trade unions and NLC that would fight any moves to sack workers. To make matters worse, in Nigeria it almost seems like a birthright for civil servants to retain their positions till they die. We have that mentality that Government has enough miney to go round so the civil service is a piece of the national cake for the common man. |

simpleseyi: What about reducing 1.3 billion naira food budget, abolishing 255 million naira bullet-proof second-hand cars, reducing over 2 billion naira travelling expenses, reducing money spent on maintaining 10 or 11 presidential jets? Reducing number of useless aides, why do we have a Reuben Abati and a Doyin Oku-Igbe doing the same dirty job? What of unconstitutional office of first lady with many redundant aides? This also goes down to the states (APC, PDP, APGA, LP) and local governments. All valid points you have raised. Same should go for the legislators salaries. But my take is these would only reduce recurrent by not much (less than 5%) so they are not significant per say. |

The only way to balance the National budget is to reduce recurrent expenditure. Obviously you know the Government would have to sack staff to accomplish this.

This APC people cef. INEC said that they can't cancel results after its been announced by the returning officer. As for the cancelled elections in 2011, the process had began, most units that had materials had began voting. But most importantly results were not yet announced to the public as at when it was cancelled.
obviously the votes counts announced were not included in those polling units supplementary elections are to take place. So INEC can call for supplemental because the results of the affected polling units were never part of the announced results.
It's annoying that people try to twist not only the law but common sense to suit their dictates. So because APC wants the election cancelled. INEC should go ahead and conduct another election. And when they lose that they would also cry for cancellation and then another fresh election right ?
They should just go to court and shut up before then. Liars. |
