Oga pls don't assert what you are not sure of. Polio vaccination in Nigeria is done by the states. The Federal Government only plays little role in terms of support wherever needed. GEJ isn't directly involved at all.

And polio cases have drastically reduced over the years. A testament of the success of previous vaccinations had. In the last 2 years I believe we've had less than 10 polio cases.

Enlightenment has been a challenge but its now very rare for people to reject the vaccine. The state govts usually partner with the emirs and local chiefs. Without been too specific I knew of a particular case where a man rejected the vaccine for his child and got summoned by the Emir of that town. He later apologised and the child was given.

On one hand, I can boldy assert than corpers make up atleast 50% of the teachers in the core Northern states and they do a lot of work.

Mass failure in WAEC and NECO is not as a result of corpers anything. When you have kids who don't understand the very basics of what learning is supposed to be all about. They can't spell correctly, can't write correctly, can't speak correctly. How do they understand correctly talkless of getting A's? My own view is that the rot in our Educational system lies at the Nursery and Primary School levels. Go to a public school and see what they are teaching them are those levels...you'd be amazed. It is important to consider this. Although it shouldn't be enough reason to break a proposed marriage.

I think for the man. He needs to carefully consider and make himself mentally prepared for the financial implications that come with marrying a lady with several siblings still in school and obviously may be in need of financial assistance from their elder sister at some point.

Marriage is not all about love. Such minute details as OP mentions are also worth thinking of. Accepting the possibility of assisting junior siblings and being mentally prepared fr it would put one in a far better position than thinking your money is for just urself and the wife after the wedding, and it becoming a source of argument later on.

They should just field the same candidate rather than form a new party with new insignia and all that.

trillville: Let me try to explain danjohn's post. For everyones information, Nigeria already has electoral colleges just like America. We simply do not use our electoral colleges but use majority vote to decide our elections.
Nigeria has 774 lgas which have 360 house of rep members and 109 senators. Each rep member and senator represent 1 electoral college vote. Add them up together to get 469 electoral votes.
Now how does this work?
Elections are then held at each lga and the senator or house of rep member representing that lga is mandated to vote the candidate the citizens of that lga choose.
The op went ahead to list advantages to both parties in an election as regards to cost savings and even more thorough vigilance by political parties since they can concentrate their efforts in fewer lgas.

In Nigeria alll states have d exact same number of senators and reps. that's different from what the uS practices if am correct. California one has about 55 votes at the electoral college.

Lagos, Oyo, Kaduna... Now, no place in SS/SE can have such voting power which will mean we are back to marginalization. Unless you are willing to give Enugu and Edo state the same voting power given to Kaduna, Kano, Lagos, Oyo which I doubt is right.

So electoral college isn't our option just yet!

If we have electoral college system, the entire SS/SE won't have more than Lagos and Oyo or Kaduna and Kano. That will be too much marginalization.

PointB: I think contrary to the hate campaign by the opposition media and their agents in cyberspace, the International World (Transparency International for example) recognize the fact that the first step in fighting corruption is via transparency (no pun intended). The present government deliberate policy of exposing the rot in the oil and other sectors is very remarkable. It gives the population the opportunity to see for themselves, the corrupt practices enshrined over time, and well covered up by past governments in Nigeria, with options and solutions for dealing with them - i.e. full subsidy removal, deregulation, reform, transformation, privatization, budget cuts and tightening.

While the media may not appreciate the import of this (transparency) due to their partisan agenda, Transparency International, the world foremost corruption rating agency does, and rightly so.

Kudos to the Government for this improvement, even if it is marginal.

If not for this, most of the corruption cases we've heard about from the pension scam to the subsidy scam etc etc would have not come to the limelight at all. Exposing corruption as GEJ is doing is the first step towards fixing our corrupt system. I just hope he goes beyond this.

I was talking to a friend the other day and the issue of corruption in ACN controlled states came up. How come its hardly in the media that money was stolen or a contract was inflated somewhere? Its hardly believable that there is absolutely no corruption in the SW states even though the Govs are performing above average.

I do feel that the opposition controls or has substantial influence over the news media as we hardly hear any bad news from their own side.

Having lived in Jigawa state, I can tell you that most of the people riding these camels are from Niger Republic so not Nigerians. Plus a grown camel costs 200k+ to buy in that same state as they don't raise camels. So its def not for the extremely poor too.

I agree. We really need to find ways to slow down population growth and let the population age.

Nigeria's median age is about 19 or so. Other countries like the US are in the 30's.

What this means is that there are too many young people such that those (aged 35 - above) who are supposed to have attained the stage of financial stability and cater to these younger ones by opening their own businesses to create employment are too little to achieve this.

If we continue this way, no amount of Government intervention would totally rid us of this our current unemployment status.

I also think that abortions for married couples and singles could be legalized to achieve this.

If not for China's one child policy. Their poverty rates would still be in the dungeon as culturally they were always a high growth population just like Nigeria with 6 or more kids per family.
