Education / Futa Student Union Reacts To Renaming Futa Suggestion, Counter Suggests Naming O by Iphekitan(m): 2:15pm On Jan 02, 2019

Following the prevailing information over the suggestion of the Founder and Chancellor of Afe Babalola University, that the Federal University of Technokogy Akure should be renamed after the late former president shehu shagari. The university student union has finally break silence on the issue

The Federal University of Technology Akure Student Union President, Comrade Ibrahim Oluwanifemi (Aluta P), has released a statement on the aforementioned suggestion, emphasising that the FUTA brand remain inextinguishable. The statement released earlier today from the presidency of the union was signed by the President Special Adviser on News, Media and Publicity and the President himself.

In the statement the union commiserate with the family of the deceased Former President and Commander-In-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Usman, and the nation Nigeria.

It was expressed that the departure of an icon like him is indeed a great loss for the nation, and they also acknowledged that fact that a man like him deserve to be immortalised. They also acknowledged that the birth of their Institution was made possible via the administration led by the departed hero, and they are ever grateful for it.

They acknowledge that the suggestion of immortalization was a great move but they disapprove the renaming. “The suggestion of immortalising this legend is a brilliant idea, and a good move, however we strongly disapprove the renaming of our beloved university for the sake of the proposed immortalization. FUTA is our brand, a world wide brand with a vision of being a world class University, renaming such brand would demeaning the brand, disrupt the vision and discourage the students.”

The union however counter suggested that the university structures could be renamed and not the university name. “The University embraces immortalization and this is visible with several structures in the university named after people who had contributed to the University in several manner, examples of such is the Albert Ilemobade Library which is the university Library, the Akindeko hall of residence which is a male hostel of the university, among others. These structures were named for the sake of immortalization. Hence we definitely embrace immortalizing the deceased by renaming any of the existing structures or perhaps naming the new structures. The FUTA brand however should not be tampered with in the name of immortalisation, as its a world wide brand.”, was stated in the official memo.

“The stand of the entire student of the Federal University of Technology Akure is that, we negate the suggestion of the renaming of our university and counter suggest that the university structures could be renamed or named for the purpose of immortalizing the legend.”, was also stated.

Finally the union wished the deceased a most deserved rest, and pray that the Almighty Allah will grant the family of the deceased and the citizens of Nigeria the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Politics / Oyo State Will Not Recycle Leaders In 2019 by Iphekitan(m): 4:46am On Aug 25, 2018
OYO STATE WILL NOT RECYCLE LEADERS IN 2019.

It's no longer news that Alao Akala, the former governor of the state and Isikia Ajimobi, the incumbent governor of same state have aligned with Akala defecting to APC.

We perceive it, we saw it coming, since oko teacher had been hailing Sai Baba during the last presidential election. "Óle nbo olé bo", no recycling of unproductive leaders in 2019. It might have worked with Ekiti, but ahead 2019, APC has failed.

The atrocities of the constituted authority are numerous coupled with the mannerless way of speaking, but he only extended the roadway drawn by his predecessor. "Oko teacher" is back again, to suffer the workers?

Hell no! People of Oyo State, PVC registration has been extended till 31st of August, 2018. Your vote is your power, Say No To Recycling. Enough is Enough. A government that cannot pay the salaries of workers of the state, not to mention pensioners, is that one government ? "He who works must get paid". OYO STATE is becoming such a collapsed system, but in time will rise again only if we rise to responsibility.

2019! My Vote Must Count!

Education / Police Officers Don't Have To Check A Student's Phone - Police Commissioner by Iphekitan(m): 6:14pm On Nov 01, 2017
POLICE OFFICERS DON'T HAVE TO CHECK A STUDENT'S PHONE - ONDO STATE POLICE COMMISSIONER TELLS FUTA STUDENT UNION.

Ajele Ifekitan | FUTA S.U.B.
01- 11 - 2017.

The Ondo State Police Command headquarters welcomed some Student Union officials of the Federal University of Technology Akure, on Wednesday, 1st of November, 2017. The commissioner of police for the state, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Gbenga Adeyanju in her headquarters on Wednesday made it known to the university student union officials that no police officer has the right to check a student's mobile phone.

On the visit of the Olaseinde Adeyinka's led administration to the Ondo state command headquarters, over the incessant harassment of students around the university, the police commissioner while addressing the union leaders said; "Only if a crime has been established against you, or a petition was written against you; maybe you have been acccused of stealing and some amount entered your phone, and that shouldn't even be on the street, only then can they check your phone. Your telephone is your personal property, the content is your personal. So if any policeman searches your phone, its either he's not sure of what he his doing or he's trying to look for an offence to implicate you, it is wrong."

"That is why i said they should give you my number, if any student is harassed unlawfully, they should call, meanwhile don't fight any policeman, i repeat don't fight any policeman in uniform, if he searches you, and checks your phone, accuses you of an offence, and handcuffs you, just follow him quietly, and let me know the station you are taken to, if you can't call, definitely you have friends that can call, and eventually you will be saved, but suffer it a little, so that, at the end of the day, the policeman would pay for his sins. If am invited by the school, officially i could come and give security tips to the university community."

The Olaseinde Adeyinka William's administration is actualising the promise of a secured academic environment of the university student. Reportedly harassment from the NPF of is one of the major issues students staying off campus face. The Commissioner of police advise students not to take law into their hands, but to follow such police officers harassing them. Then such incident should be reported to his office as soon as possible.

The 2017 FUTA registration exercise for post ume screening which commenced on the 4th of September, and is stated to close on Monday, 18th of September according to the university press release. It was observed that only utme candidates have been able to register, direct entry candidates have been unable to register till today 15th of September, 2017.

This had made the direct entry candidates worrisome , they complain persistently that they were unable to register nor make payment for the form at the bank, as the replies thy got were invalid registration number.

With respect to complains of 2017/2018 FUTA Aspirants, our reporter chat with the Student Union President Comrade Olasehinde Adeyinka Williams *(Sir Newton)* and he has this to say;
“Concerning the direct entry candidates that are unable to register nor make payments, the issue is that their data’s haven’t been updated on FUTA database yet. Hopefully by next week it would be addressed”.

He futher addressed the issues concerning the candidates who did change of institution to FUTA and are unable to register, ‘it’s due to the same reason earlier stated, their data’s haven’t been updated yet” he stated also adding that, “the same applies to candidates who did change of course and it hasn’t reflected on their FUTA print out and etransact slip, it also due to the fact that it has been updated to FUTA database”.

Lastly he urged 2017/2018 aspirants of the Federal University of Technology Akure to calm down and relax their mind, adding that as its most likely the university management extends the period of the registration, so aspirants shouldn’t be scared, they should all calm down.

With this we hope Aspiring futarians would have a relaxed mind, its also noted that NECO 2017 have been released, so aspirant are allowed to obtain FUTA post utme form, hence there should be no awaiting students applying, as the university management doesn’t permit it for the registration.

Sequel to the release of the management of the federal university of technology akure concerning the commencement of registration of the post utme screening exercise for jamb aspirants and direct entry aspirants, lots of controversies had generated.

It was noted that the registration which was said to begin on Monday, 4th of September, couldn't commence because the a public holiday was scheduled for that day, hence banks weren't opened for business and candidates were unable to commence registration.

In the evening period of 4th of September, it was noted that the post utme feature was added to the university website, and the details on the new page had a new update which came as a shock to the aspiring futarians, the update which listed banks that had the e-transact platform also had it that aspirants are required to pay a certain sum of NGN NGN 3,000 naira excluding bank charges for post utme past questions and result checking. The new update wasn't stated in the first release on the university official Facebook page which had it that they were to pay a sum of NGN 2,000 Naira exclusive of bank charge for the screening form via the e-transact platform in authorised banks.

The aspirants didn't take the update with good heart as they were surprised by the sudden payment for past questions and result checking, which made the total amount to be paid by them 5, 000 Naira excluding bank charges.

On the 5th of September, various aspirants took to commence their registration process, but it wasn't certain to them how the payment for the two options were to be made, either together or separately.

A Futarian Barrister Okeneye popularly known as Jerry, later released screenshots of his conversation with the management via the live chat the university website provided. His chat with the management on the live chat made it known that aspirants are to pay for the post utme form and post utme past questions plus result checking seperately, it was further added by the administrator replying the student barrister that aspirants should get two separate tellers (deposit slips) for the two different payment, before proceeding to the university website to confirmn their payment.
It was further noted that on the website there are two options for confirmation for each payments, before aspirants could proceed with the registration.

Aspirants who had gone to the bank for payment, said that they were able to pay for the post utme screening but there was no payment option for FUTA post utme past question on the e-transact platform, so they were advise to check back later.

The attention of the university student union president Comrade Adeyinka Williams, popularly known as Sir Newton, was brought to this and he reply was that the aspirants should stay calm and be patient. Every thing would be sorted in due time.

On this note, aspirants are urged to stay calm and await more information from the university or student union body concerning the 2017/2018 admission process.

Education / ASUU Futa Join Nationwide Strike by Iphekitan(m): 4:52pm On Aug 15, 2017
*FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY AKURE STUDENT'S UNION*

_14th AUGUST 2017_

*PRESS RELEASE*

The student's union body, an epitome of energetic individuals, consortium of articulate and vibrant leader, uses this medium to notify futarians that ASUU has embark on an indefinite strike, in which ASUU FUTA chapter has also joined them.

This was a result of votes which came from our lecturers from various universities.

The strike is to show their grievances to the Federal Government, ASUU and FG both had an agreement since 2009, and we were told that the promises are yet to be fulfilled.

However, the strike is indefinite, but mind you, the word indefinite doesn't mean it can't be called off with in a short period of time, we only need to pray to God that he should intervene so as for the strike not to go out of hand. As we all know that we are lagging behind, and our examination is fast approaching. All we have to do is to make good use of this break, we shouldn't be carried away. There's probability that the strike won't last longer, and it very possible we run the academic calendar as proposed earlier.

On this note, our admonition for futarians is to eat well, read well and sleep well. Have a wonderful break ahead.

Signed:

Meaning oduduwa and his associates ran from mecca, and since he already tasted the sweetness of kingship, he would still love to be king which led him to colonising the existing Yoruba Nation
Culture / Re: True Source Of Ekiti , Ile-ife Or Elsewhere ? by Iphekitan(m): 9:32pm On Jul 27, 2017
A man called Lamurudu, at that time, introduced Yoruba to Mecca it was not known as Yoruba, just as Idolatry or Polytheism. One of the offspring of Lamurudu was Oduduwa II, was also alleged to have been King of Gogobiri and Kukawa, which are tribes in Country.
The Hausa Were the Yoruba Muslims at that time. They spoke Yoruba language and Aramic type Script. They later develop their own unique language Called Hausa, still been spoken today.
In the fifth century Mecca was the world trade centre. The Yorubas and others, who were considered polytheist, were permitted to practice their religion, having migrated a few thousand years before and being the natives of that time.
They were called Sabeans and Nabateans. Others worshipped the stone deities, of the Moon God, Allat, his wife and family of daughters. 360 Gods were in The Ka'aba. This was before the time of Muhammad. Oduduwa was alleged to be the heir to the throne of Mecca. He went back to the religion of his forefathers during the reign of his father Lamurudu. They decided to bring their people back to the worship of their Ancestors. So, one night, Asara, a Lamurudu priest was ordered to put idols in The Ka'aba, which at that time was attributed to one Deity, Allat.
However because Asara's son was a monotheist he was unable to bear the thought of idols residing in the Ka'aba, so he destroyed it. This unitary action brought about civil war, between the polytheists and monotheists. The monotheists were victorious, King Lamurudu was killed, and his children were expelled from Mecca.

WE ARE MERE VICTIMS
If we claim that Ekiti originates from Ile-Ife, there are more questions to answer: Where did Ile-Ife originate? There is another question: Can we separate Oduduwa from Yoruba? If it is true, historically, that Oduduwa was the father of the entire Yoruba race, Ekiti could not have come from Ile-Ife. Ask me why. The myth says Oduduwa descended from heaven. However, the authentically researched history established that Oduduwa was a migrated into this part of the world and settled down at Ile-Ife, where he met some other people. When I got that history, what came to my mind was that Oduduwa and his children actually colonised the areas now known as Yoruba race, which are made up of what used to be various nations, including Ekiti - a nation of its own and indeed the only homogeneous state in Nigeria.
After settling down properly, what the researched history recorded is that his grandchildren used to request for their own crown, which used to be made by one ASEDEMADE. Upon receiving authority to go and take over an existing town or village, (call it colonization), Oduduwa pedigree would locate a town or village, kill its\ruler or force him to hand over and become his subject or run for his dear life.
For instance, that authentic history states that Oba Elekole of Ikole Ekiti is known as Oba GBADEGESIN till today, because he(the one who came from Ife to take over ruler ship of Ikole-Ekiti) was the only one who rode on his horse from Ife to Ikole with his crown on his head.
A very dismal case was that of Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State. The first Obanta of Ijebu Ode was from Ile-Ife. After receiving his crown, he chose to take over (colonise), the place now known as Ijebu-Ode. According to the researched history (not myths), as soon as he arrived and the then "baale" was notified that an Oduduwa grandson was outside his palace, he escaped through the back door. Therefore, the Ile-Ife man simply used the event of that day to rename the town as well as his title. It went like this:
Because Oduduwa and his descendants were dreaded everywhere, they were the ones referred to as Oba (King). All other existing rulers of his colonised kingdoms became "baales".
Concerning Ijebu-Ode, as soon as the existing ruler was told:"OBA WA NITA" and he escaped, the new Oba decided to make his title "OBA-WA-NITA", which as times rolled bye, became OBANTA. In addition, he named the colonised town after two slaves who accompanied him. Their names were AJEBU AND OLODE. The town became AJEBU-OLODE and later became Ijebu-Ode.
Most part of the areas known as Yoruba today came under Oduduwa ruler ship by subjugation. Therefore, the history of every nation making up Yoruba today goes beyond Oduduwa. Just like Ijebu-Ode, all towns and villages being ruled by Obas, who claim to have come from Ile-Ife, are all victims of Papa Oduduwa’s invasion, even Ile-Ife.
Therefore, like some, who contributed to this topic rightly pointed out, this is an scholarly subject, and not a matter of how somebody feels or the language you speak. Our history is like that of America, a place originally occupied by Indians, speaking their own language. English people colonised them. Today, they speak English. But listen to an Indian intonation, when speaking English and listen to an American. You would hear what I call rubberise sound. The French colonisers even adopted a policy of assimilation. Therefore, language is far from being a proof of origin.
To confirm the authentic history of Oduduwa and his descendant’s exploits in this part of the world, visit University of Ibadan or Obafemi Awolowo University libraries.
We are not from Ile-Ife. A good number of our ruling families are, just as the ruler of Malawi today originates from England. That does not make the Malawians English.

I thought this topic would have closed by now. I know Oduduwa descendants(The Kabiyesis) tried to replace history with fables. Ekiti people had lived on Okiti(Mountain areas) for more than a million year. Oduduwa and his family were immigrants. There is nothing like somebody dropping from the sky(Heaven). And even if that had been the case, it means Oduduwa was an ALLIEN, which he was anyway; but from another part of this planet. A warrior he was. His children and descendants took over ruler-ship of entire Yoruba land by subjugation. That's the true story. If we were all descendants of Oduduwa, we would all have been modern Royals. They took all our crowns by force. That's the truth. Ijebu-Ode, for instance, was renamed after two slaves, who accompanied Oduduwa's son to take over the town by force. The slaves were called Ajebu and Olode. The town was originally renamed Ajebu-Olode and later became Ijebu Ode. Just the way they met our ancestors on mountainous area and renamed the area Okiti, which later became Ekiti. Ekiti people are indigenous people. Never migrated from no bloody Ife. That's why real Ekiti people speak the same language.

History of Ekiti.....
The word “Ekiti” as we know it today denotes a “mound.” and is derived from the rugged mountainous features of the State
According to oral and contemporary written sources of Yoruba history, the Ekitis are among the earliest settlers of Yorubaland. The Yoruba [Oyo Yoruba] are said to have sprung from Lamurudu, one of the kings of Mecca whose offspring were Oduduwa (Crown Prince), the kings of Gogobiri (Gogir in Hausaland) and Kukawa (Bornu).
Oduduwa, the ancestor of the Yoruba traveled to Ife [Ife Ooyelagbo] where he met people who were already settled there. Among the elders he met in the town were Agbonniregun [Stetillu], Obatala, Orelure, Obameri, Elesije, Obamirin, Obalejugbe just to mention a few. It is known that descendants of Agbonniregun [Baba Ifa] settled in Ekiti, examples being the Alara and Ajero who are sons of Ifa. Orunmila [Agbonniregun] himself spent a greater part of his life at Ado. Due to this, we have the saying ‘Ado ni ile Ifa’ [Ado is the home of Ifa]. The Ekiti have ever since settled in their present location.
Nobody can give accurate dates to these events due to the lack of written sources, but people have lived in Ekiti for centuries. It is on record that Ekiti Obas had prosperous reign in the 13th century. An example was the reign of Ewi Ata od Ado in the 1400s. The Ekiti are intelligent and have a deep love of home. Respect for age and superiors, ingrained politeness is part and parcel of their nature.
Before Nigeria was amalgamated, the Ekiti tribe was under the British Protectorate with the other Yoruba tribes. Ekiti became part of the defunct Western Region of Nigeria which was divided to give the Ekitis their own state.
There has been no large scale migration of Ekiti peoples to neighbouring countries, but Ekitis are in other parts of Yorubaland mostly in Ondo, Oshun and Kwara states. The present Ekiti state is smaller than the old Ekiti one due to inter-tribal wars and subsequent redivisions. By virtue of Ekiti’s intelligence, there are more Ekiti graduates today than in most states of Nigeria. It is rather by heritage than by accident that the motto of the present Ekiti state is “Fountain of Knowledge,” since Agbonniregun whose descendants are all over Ekitiland is praised as Akere-finu sogbon [the small man with a mind full of wisdom].
The remarkable simplicity, though tough but unwarlike attribute of the Ekitis led the Oyos to wage war on them in the mid-1800. The Ekitis formed an alliance which they termed Ekiti Parapo (i.e. Ekiti Confederation). They raised a formidable army and were determined not only to liberate themselves but also to overrun the Oyos right to Ibadan farms at the River Oba. Prince Fabunmi of Oke Imesi headed the confederates with able warlords such as Fabaro of Ido, Famakinwa of Erin, Odole- Oloyombere, Oluborode of Ikogosi just to mention a few. They were later joined by Ogedemgbe- Agbogun Gboror who later became the Commander-in-Chief of the Confederates.
Instead of tendering their submission as Are Latosisa thought, the Oyo army found the Ekiti-Parapos became the first to introduce long flintlock guns with large muzzles to war in Yorubaland. These guns when fully loaded and fired, gave a report which reverberated from hill to hill all around. It sounded like KI-RI-JI, KI-RI-JI, from which this war was named the Kiriji campaign. The war lasted until 1886 around when the Oyos pleaded for British intervention in the war. The British intervention led to a peace treaty between the Oyos and Ekitis. never to wage war against each other and so with Oyo and other Yoruba nations, thus making the Kiriji war the last major war of the Yorubas
