Nowenuse: I have really studied the demographics of most part of the north and i highly doubt the existence of substantial Buzu and Zarma communities in Kebbi or Sokoto. Even if there are, i think they will be very few spill overs at the boundary areas. I have never heard them counted in any demographic representation of Sokoto or Kebbi, the dominate neither a LGA nor a traditional stoolship. Nothing. They may be immigrants who are now claiming those states.
As for the issue of ethnic clusters. I think both have advantages and disadvantages. In places like Aba, Onitsha or Warri you really cannot compare the fate of northerners in Hausa quarters to those who live in the streets...especially in middle class areas, but truly, bad neighbours really count. They r in Zaria kala- Kala/ Koko besse in kebbi. They might hv migrated long time ago from Nijer but most don't knw dere root in Nijer. |

I find it very embarrassing that you and i (the only northerners) who are active on this thread are a product of Southern environment/upbringing. Is this not exactly what am saying?
Exactly, this issue of unqualified teachers is the main problem. You can imagine that most of those Chibok girls in SS3 writing waec could not speak English. People are taught in Hausa in many rural and semi urban secondary schools in the north, let alone primary schools.
But one thing i have observed about core-northerners is that they seem to develop with urbanization. Or am i wrong? See places like Kano and northern Kaduna. They are doing considerably better educationally than other core-northerners. These are the only places you can find a somewhat active middle-class population in the core-north. Or not? Those guys from Kano r really brilliant. They r outshining d kd guys that tink they beta in western education, especially, frm d faculty of engineering. |

Nowenuse: @Ishalbash
You will agree with me that this northern culture of manyan mutane & talakawa (rich & poor) is killing northern Nigeria.
Southerners are developing a very strong and viable middle-class population. And you can see the way they are dominating most sectors of the country apart from politics. Rich northerners have been the problem of the north as they seem to be very uninterested in developing the northern masses. I am not against religion but it bleeds my heart to see Zamfara or Bauchi state governments organising Koranic recitation competitions and building more mosques whereas you will never find them organizing science and learning competitions, skill acquisition programs for the youth or building schools.
Kudos to northern governors like Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe state for changing that destructive mentality of most northern leaders.
You can clearly see that the middlebelt people are rapidly leaving that destructive culture, by embracing education more and if the core-northerners do not catch up, both the core-north and middlebelt will be forever divided.
One thing that most northern leaders do not know is that evil always backfires. The more these northern leaders keep on leaving their people in backwardness and the Southerners get wealthier, the more the poorer northerners will keep on migrating to the South for greener pastures. Southerners will keep on using northerners as 'slaves'. It is already happening.
By the time all the indigenes of northern states have left to the South, who will these northern leaders rule?? Southern states will keep on having a higer Internal revenue and that 'Southernization' or Southern acculturization of Nigeria which northern leaders have been trying to fight since the time of the Sardauna will still take place!
What can you say about this? This is what I hv bn saying since. Those people organising d stuff r dsame people calling us Yan bidi'a( people of innovation) and odas infidel/kufur as long as u r not part of Dem. They r d fanatics I having bn talking abt. When we celebrate maulud( d prophet birth) they say; we r doing our own version of Christmas. During maulud, u give out food and drinks to people, but during dere own type of bidi'a, they gv smal nd collect more These people r hypocrites...they r doing it for dere selfish interest nt for d masses, but d gullible masses won't see that. You will Neva see Dem organising science or oda fields competition or building schools wit d monies they r looting rather deceiving Dem with Islamic bla bla even if it does not concerns Islam. They will kip building mosques to breed almajiris instead of schools to groom Dem for d future, besides it won't stops u from studying Arabic or Islamic studies. D funny part is dat; most of Dem don't even know what dey r reciting...na just cram cram notin else. They r quick to criticize u wen u speak but will keep mute when almajiris r roaming every nooks nd crannies of d north without even helping Dem wit food and clothes while dere children schooled abroad wit empty head...they r just dere flexing not studying like Baba pikin( I no call name o!) D only soln is to educate ur children on ur own, besides, r sum good public skuls. When d child has passion for education, he will excel anywhere. I Neva pay skul fees before apart from when I dey nursery 2,3 and pry 1&2. I attended a public school... I know am not too bad |

Nowenuse: First of all, what is the major difference btw Zarma and Buzu? I always see them to be the same. I seem to see you hinting about Zarma/buzus from Kebbi/Sokoto. Are there Zarma/buzu indigenous communities in Nigeria?? I never tot there were, If yes, can you help me list them if you know them?
Seriously, these Zarma people from Niger republic, i don't understand them at all. How come most beggars from Niger republic are buzu/Zarma whereas a lot of them are rich people changing dollars??
Yes, we all know of their diabolism and unpure ways, but how come do these people manage to mix islam and such diabolism??
Also, i think this clustering together of northerners in one place in the south should be discouraged. It usually makes them easy targets in case of crises. See the case of Ile-ife. It also helps to breed some level of unruliness and extremism among the youths, thinking that they are now large in numbers and can thus challenge their hosts.
Apart from maybe the Nupes, those of us from middlebelt/Taraba/Adamawa and Southern kaduna, we hardly live in ethnic clusters in the South, and this helps us integrate with the southerners better and develop ourselves. You may not share my views, but you can see that i have a point here. I tink we hv buzus in Nigeria but I don't know wich state they are from. There are indigenous Zarma in Nigeria from kebbi state. d buzus r mostly from nijer nd Mali, they look slim wit very curly hair and dey r mostly black( d ones I see here though), but I tink those tuareg r light skin buzus( nt too sure). They have pretty ladies similar to d Somalis but not dat light. All d Zarmas I knw speak dere language very well no matter where de r born. Yap, sometimes de bcum easily target but those dat mix r vulnerable to more attacks. Like during d 1998 crises in Lagos after d demise of MKO Abiola, those that r killed r mostly Nijerians living outside d Hausa dominated areas even d ife crises those dat r mostly killed r d ones outside sabo. If u luk at d pix, u wud see dat some r killed in dere shops, hawking, selling foodstuff in wheelbarrow. It is good to mix wit odas but when u hv bad neighbours' it's a suicidal. |

Nowenuse: Hmm, interesting. No wonder you can speak pidgin quite well and display some southern traits.
I also live in the South too, infact i was born in Delta state. My father works with NNPC and was transferred to the south. What brought you to the south??
Are you for real? Though i don't really know much about the demographics of northerners in Lagos state, but in the SS/SE, you hardly find people from Kano, Jigawa or Kaduna doing menial jobs. Most of the core-northerners doing those are usually from Sokoto, Zamfara and sometimes Katsina. You can only find the former trading. The Kanuris from Borno do wristwatches. Both core-northerners and middlebelters do mai guard and okada. ...... The only difference btw the poor core-northerners and middlebelters in the south is that most poor middlebelters who leave their villages to the South do so after finishing secondary schools. While most core-northerners never went to school. Let me ask you, sincerely, do you see core-northerners changing and bridging the educational gap in Nigeria in the nearest future I didn't come to Lagos, I was born here. To be frank, it's impossible for now cos schools in d rural areas and some small urban areas have quack teachers with empty head. U will see students' from snr sec schools dat r supposed to be in pry 4 coz dey know notin. How can a blind man lead anoda blind man to d river? I know most people in my town are schooling especially d ladies, daz y d place node sweet cox girls scarce I swear There was a day my nephew texted my elder bro, if u see d msg, u go plank d idiot head. I tink d boarding schools r beta dere( I can't attend sha), because of people from different background and d govt wud employed qualified tchas. Those dat attend private skuls r beta even here in Lagos maybe because of dere low population, but dere problem is " exam malpractice" during WAEC. If qualified teachers can be employed, I tink those from d rural areas could Mk progress, hence, reduce illiteracy rates. Its obvious, people frm d rural areas constitute d highest number of illiterates in any society. Tank God d young people from my part of d State, have passion for western education. |

freshest4live: Lol, assuming a strong nation from any region wanna conquer Africa beginning from their region, Ethiopia would stroll through East Africa, with uganda and kenya resisting to no avail, but in the North there is Egypt with an army funded by the U.S, and then Algeria. In the South there is South Africa who faces no threat from their region. Angola with oil money and a stubborn Zimbabwe maybe, but both of these nations would be flattened by southafrica in a matter of days. In central Africa, Congo should lead Cameroon but both combined stand no chance whatsoever. In the west, Benin, Chad and Niger would surrender before the battle even begins. Hmm in the context of an African take over by any country or group of countries without allies outside Africa, it would be bloody and there may likely be no victor. Just thinking for fun though, lol. Those chadian soldiers r very stubborn, I don't tink they will surrender. If I dey lie, ask shekau |

Nowenuse: You are quite correct.
So, where do you live?
You cannot expect every part of a state in Nigeria to be urbanized. Will u? This is Africa. A state like Kano is ok if you ask me, i heard that Kano urban area currently occupies 10 out of the 44 LGAs of the state and it is rapidly expanding.
Yes, it can also be said that oil is a factor of development of the SS areas. Ebonyi and Bayelsa state capitals are not that bad believe me. As young states they are developing somehow better than their northern counterparts.
Abakaliki can compare Sokoto and Minna cities in terms of development and Ebonyi is just about 20 years old while Niger and Sokoto states are about 40 years old or more.
Many SS/SE people are now trying to reverse the trend of investing everything in Lagos and have started investing more at home. Can this really be said of northerners?? Though i think the lower literacy and exposure rates in the north is one setback.
Have you noticed that more northerners are increasingly migrating to the south these days? Unlike vice versa in the past. Lagosian from one ghetto area... U might have seen where a 3storey building collapsed last wk on NL fp at Ilasamaja, daz very close to my place. Most of d Northerners coming to lag wit bako bags r mostly from d villages, nd r illiterates. Those dat push trucks and buy aluminium r mostly frm Kano. Few do shoemakers, some sell date palm, most ride bikes, those hausas from sokoto sell suya, d fulanis r traders. Those dat sell foodstuffs nd fruits inside wheelbarrow r mostly Zarma frm Nijer and a few hausas from Nigeria. Those BDC( bureau de change) r mostly Zarma from Nijer and Hausas from Jigawa state. These set of people r very rich, they live in big and extravagant houses in any part of Lagos, though dere way r not too pure and d literate ones among dem pick money for yahoo boys nd those wire wire.During rainy season, most of Dem go bak to dere villages' and farm. The ones at festac, VI, lekki, Ajah, ikoyi etc r either govt workers or BDC. The rich northerners only cum to Lagos for business nd go bak even during NYSC most of Dem will redeploy to either Abuja or any Northernern states even if they r posted to Lagos, Rivers, Anambra, Abia etc. Some of Dem do forfeit dere allawee jst to leave d state. The northerners u see In Lagos r mostly poor nd illiterate people from d villages, then Zarma frm Nijer and kebbi state, kotokoli from Togo nd Ghana, fulanis, Buzus from Nijer nd mali( those u see wit a small kettle doin tea), Nupes( they sell roasted groundnut nd tanfirin) etc. When there's crises in d south, most of d people its affect r d foreigns cos d northerners live closely together e.g Idi araba, alaba rago, mile 12 etc. |

Nowenuse: Ok.
So, what do all these Bades, Ngizims, Kanuris and other minority groups people who have been hausanized (i mean those people from these tribes). What do they identify as? Do they identify as Hausas ethnically or they still retain their original ethnic identity??
Is Kanuri language taught in schools in kanuri speaking areas?
Talking about urbanisation, yes i know that it is an all round Nigerian problem, but i don't think this issue affects South-South and South-east Nigerians as such.
Almost every state in the SE/SS has an influential, populated, rapidly developing and considerably rich capital city. Some states like Delta, Anambra, Abia even have up to 2-3 of such cities. As for the South-west, Lagos is clearly their problem, but however, places like Ibadan are rapidly developing.
But if you look at the whole north, you will see that apart from Kano, Kaduna, Jos, Zaria and Ilorin, no other city can you really regard as well developing. Maiduguri is battling with boko haram which has really reduced it's potentials. Look at states like Kebbi, Sokoto, Taraba, Zamfara, Jigawa, Yobe, Adamawa and others, no viable cities we can really say are rapidly developing and urbanizing. Thank God for Abuja that has come to seriously urbanize states like Nasarawa and Niger.
There is a very big gap between the North and the South (if you understand what am talking about). The states u aforementioned are oil producing states, they r oil companies which r mostly owned by d whites. Will u expect such a place not to develop? Besides, why did u exclude Bayelsa and Ebonyi states? Most of d places dat r developed r where oil firms r present. They r many places dat r not developed at all in does states u listed, even in ph despites, all d monies, a place like elche is a no go area. Apart from 2-3 places ph city inclusive, other places has notin to rite abt. Same goes to daz states like Kano, Zaria, ilorin etc in fact, Zaria Na village ful of mud houses. Kano city is d only place developed in Kano, d oda LGAs outside Kano city No beta pass nguru, Hadejia and gashua. Lagos is d only place that I knw is uniformly developing and mayb Ogun, Ibadan. Sure, d North x lagging behind d South in terms of everything apart from Quranic recitation and population To be sincerely speaking, d SS/SE r not better despite dere high literacy rate and exposures. Many people frm dat part of d con3 r trooping into Lagos everyday. They r even claiming of developing Lagos in detriment ov dere own states dat nid it most. A Kanuri man will Neva identify himself as a Hausa no matter what. I only know about Kanuri courses at unimaid, besides, I don't live in d north. I tink, u can only make comparism wit place like Lagos cox of dere similitudes. |

Would you say Potiskum is as big and developed as Zaria?
Which tribes are actually the natives of Potiskum? I heard it was the Ngizim people and maybe Bade. But it seems like Hausas and Kanuris have outnumbered the natives there, or not?
What about Gashua? That town seems quite famous. How developed is it? Gumel in Jigawa too, the name seems quite famous. How developed in the place?
Also, why is it that it seems like most educated core-northerners always love to migrate and live in Kano, Kaduna and Abuja? Why does it seem like they don't like to develop and populate their own State capitals? I have not been to potiskum before, but is Zaria really developed cos I can't see dat apart from having more of higher institutions nd wat hv u... They r just lucky to b favored by govt in d past. Eastern Gashua is dominated by d Bades- Hausas and Kanuri r also present. Ngizim are d real occupants of postikum, dere emirs from onset r mostly Ngizim nd one or two bades. They r also present in Bornu nd Jigawa bfor, but r extinct now. They dey easily foregone dere dialect for Hausa. Gumel is kinda popular because of its evry two days market day... Daz all I knw. Most governors in Nigeria don't spend a week in dere states, instead, dey go to Abuja. If a governor wit all d luxuries can't stay in his state who re u expecting to stay, besides, it's not a core north tin, it's a Nigeria stuff.
