[s][/s] TonyeBarcanista: Overtime there has been growing number of threads and comments by some Igbo loyalists and sympathisers of IPOB led Biafra ideology over the position of the South-South ethnic groups and in particular, Rivers state. Some have started seeing us as antagonists to the aspiration of the Igbo nation, while some others have moved towards casting aspersions on some of us.
Let me start by stating clearly that my determination to support every legitimate struggle and respect the right of self-determination by any group(s) is irreversible. However, I believe it will be proper to make some things clear with respect to IPOB led Biafran ideology.
1. Nobody in the Niger Delta and Rivers state is against Igbo What we are saying is very simple. We respect your right to self-determine your destiny, you should also respect our right to self-determine ours. Don't determine for us even if you don't agree with us. If you believe that we have common destiny, state your terms and allow us state ours. Where there is no consensus, allow us determine our next step. If we believe in an indivisible Nigeria or a United Republic of some ethnic minorities within the region, it should be respected. Nobody should be villified for their own choice neither do we have the right to villify Igbos for wanting their land and territory out.
2. Show Respect For Our Territories: I believe that it was Kanu that spread the fable that Portharcourt is an Igbo city, which some of you now call Igweocha. This is absolutely insulting on us the Okrikans/Ijaws especially. The city of Portharcourt is shared between the Okrikans and Ikwerres. The portion owned by Okrikans have been our fishing port for centuries. The record is there. Ikwerres are not fishermen, hence, a reflection of their settlement. The Okrikans are 100% Ijaws and 0% Igbos. Our portion of PHC is NOT Igweocha and has never been. I am not aware that the Ikwerres wish to call theirs Igweocha but in the event that they wish to, it is left for the Okrikans, Ikwerres and Rivers state government to rename the city altogether and we (Okrikans) shall determine an appropriate name for our portion of the city.
3. Show Respect For Our Land: I have also been reading tales by sunset by some people saying that Opobo is Igboland. That is a grave insult to the Ijaws and is highly unacceptable. For the record, Opobo kingdom was formerly part of Bonny Kingdom, owned and inhabited by the Ijaws who are proud of their ancestry. The name of the Kingdom is Opoboama, and it was named after former Bonny King Opubo. The land and people pre-existed even before the coming of Jaja, an Igbo slave that was bought by Bonny chief Alali Opubo, Head of Opubo Annie Royal House. For the record, Jaja never found Opobo. He however led a section of Anna Pepple Wari(House) to break Opobo from Bonny Kingdom with the same territory and Ijaw people. The ijaw chiefs never made mistake in making Jaja their first king of the kingdom. The case of Jaja can be likened to Joseph that was an Hebrew slave but rose to become a Prime minister and Head of Government in Egypt. His ascension neither makes Egypt to be an Hebrew land neither does it make the Egyptians as Hebrews. All these are well documented. I have to state that the Ijaw nation is not in land dispute with anyone over any of our territory in the riverine areas of Rivers state. From Kalasunju, Kalaibiama, and Epellema etc are all Ijaw communities in Opobo kingdom. Similarly, Ndoki is undisputed Ijawland. In fact, Ndoki is nicknamed "kala-krike" that is mini Wakrike(Okrika). It is believed that they are descendants of Okrika kingdom. We are all Ijaws. I am stating this to educate those that may not be aware.
4. Respect For Our Brothers And Neighbours: The people of Rivers state from Ogba, Ikwerre, Ogoni etcetera have suffered together, sacrificed a lot together and even disagreed on issues with each other at differnt times. If in their wisdom they deny being Igbos, Yoruba or Biafrans. It is their right and must be respected irrespective of whether they bear Uche, Yakubu or Folashade. The South South geopolitical zone though a political arrangement but has brought avenue for collective unity. The position of the Binis, Esans, Itsekiris, Ibibios, Urhobo, Anang etcetera should be respected. Their land, their decision and their people. No group or persons deserves to be insulted.
5. Stop Using Jonathan/PDP As Blackmail Tool: God knows that we recognise and appreciate the support you guys gave to our brother Jonathan and his party, PDP. But, that shouldn't be a blackmail tool as expressed by some IPOB people. When it comes to ethnic/territorial issues, we have to drop the toga of partisanship and address issues from the position of our respective groups and maintain our own interest. It doesn't mean that we don't appreciate your support and sacrifice for GEJ/Wike/PDP. In fact, God sparing our lives we shall support an Igboman from South east for VP slot under PDP. Blackmailing us with the support given to Jonathan is unfair in every sense.
My dear Igbo cousins, we don't hate you. We are not your antagonists. We appreciate your support and solicit your continuous support for our people. We appreciate the sacrifice you have made for our sons and daughters. Personally, I have been a beneficiary of the benevolence of the Igbos and I appreciate it from the depth of my heart. Be rest assured of the love and support of all Niger-Deltans worldwide. This love and support is not just only for the Igbos, but to every Nigerian irrespective of ethnic affiliation that desires the progress of our people.
Our peaceful co-habitation, trusts and love can only be guaranteed when we make respect our watch word.
May God Lead Us Right and Bless Nigeria. [s][/s] What's the essence of this thread now if not tto bring insults on igbos from yoruba and hausa people... you they Bleep up sha..... your not the niger delta mouth piece neither is there any problem reported on the media except here you write this... you just amazed me with this thread is gonna cause more harm than good |

Politics › Audu’s Campaign Attacks Governor Wada For Alleged Appointment Of 3,000 Aides by ishiamu(op): 10:28am On Oct 26, 2015 |
The Abubakar Audu Campaign Organisation on Sunday lambasted the Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada, for an alleged appointment of 3,000 aides. Mr. Audu is the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the forth-coming governorship election in the state on November 21. The Director of Social Media to the APC candidate, Joel Odaudu, in a statement accused Mr. Wada of wasting over N1. 2 billion of Kogi funds as perk to the newly appointed aides. Mr. Odaudu said the action underscores the self-serving and desperate bid for re-election by the governor. “We will like to bring to your attention and that of the people of Kogi State how Governor Idris Ichalla Wada is wasting billions of naira of Kogi state funds in his self-serving and desperate bid for a re-election,” Mr. Odaudu said. “This is in the face of the abject poverty and stringent economic climate his party and government have subjected the Kogi people during the four years of his failed administration. Mr. Odaudu described the governor’s action as “conscienceless, outrageous, and the height of betrayal of public trust.” He warned that no amount of back-room gimmicks and political shenanigans by the Wada government would stall the change that is due in the state. He noted that the acceptability of the APC governorship and deputy governorship candidates has given birth to mass movement for change and nothing would stand on the way of the people. “In the last one week, Captain Wada and the PDP have laboriously and thriftlessly spent over 1.2 billion naira of Kogi Tax payers’ money on fresh appointment of 3,000 Special Assistants, SAs, and Senior Special Assistants, SSAs, in a desperate bid to placate the already disenchanted men, women, and youth who are bent on voting them out of power in next month’s gubernatorial election. “It is confounding and outlandish to see the government and its agents engage in appointment letter-sharing jamboree in the three senatorial districts, a promo which is being rejected by some prominent and selfless youth who mean well for our dear state.” He made reference to the former President Jonathan Youth Campaign Coordinator for Kogi state, Godwin Edime, whom he said rejected Mr. Wada’s appointment as SSA with a whopping N420,000 monthly salary. He noted that the appointment letters were still being shared across the state but urged the people to reject them. He said the dissatisfaction of Kogi people for the Wada administration is so lucid one can almost touch with the hand. Mr. Odaudu argued that the November 21 election is not about how much the governor can spend to keep himself and party in power, but a referendum on his (Wada) performance. However, when contacted by PREMIUM TIMES, the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the Governor, Jacob Eddie, said the allegation was baseless. He said the Audu Campaign Organisation is either acting in ignorance or in mischief. “I want to deny totally the allegation that the governor appointed the number of aides you just told me about,” Mr. Eddie said. “But I can tell you that when Audu was governor, the number of aides he had far out-number what he claims Mr. Wada has today. “The issue in this election is very clear. It is between evil and good and the people of Kogi will not choose evil.” When told that the Audu Campaign Organisation provided evidence of the new appointments by his principal, he said the governor has power under the law to appoint aides. He noted that when Mr. Audu was governor, he did not appoint aides but slaves, adding that those he appointed worshipped at his feet. “Audu appointed people who could not sit on the chair with him. They all sat on the floor while Audu alone sat on the chair. Audu appointed over 5000 slaves and used Kogi state funds to maintain them,” Mr. Eddie continued. “He picked mechanics from the road and appointed them special advisers and the records are there. On the man who turned down his appointment, he is an adult. “But I can tell you that he went through documentation before turning it down. Don’t forget we are playing politics and in it a lot of people play pranks. “If he rejected an appointment, so be it. Anybody should be proud of being so recognised by his own state.” http://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/north-central/192144-audus-campaign-attacks-governor-wada-for-alleged-appointment-of-3000-aides.html |

Eziachi: Some of you are missing the point. The judgement was not about Wike popularity or his current performance. It was about his election being fraudulent. Whether he is more popular than garri and water is irrelevant. The same reason Ngige was sacked as a governor years ago, when he was doing a great job in Anambra and was equally popular at the time among the people, but the election that brought him into office remains fraudulent irrespective. If a Messi or a Ronaldo handled the ball inside the 18 yards box it will be a penalty, irrespective of whether they are the best player in the world or not. Or that they are very popular around the world among football fans.
You guys should reason like intelligent and educated people. You just said trash now.... did you read the tribunal verdict and know why the election was cancelled please try and read it then get back to me I have another question for you |

Politics › Rivers Residents Express Mixed Reactions To Tribunal’s Sack Of Governor Wike by ishiamu(op): 9:15am On Oct 26, 2015 |
A cross section of Rivers State residents on Sunday expressed mixed feelings on the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal’s nullification of Governor Nyesom Wike’s election.
While some see the judgement as a welcome development, others view it as a bad omen.
Ben Orlu, a resident of Port Harcourt, told News Agency of Nigeria that the judgement was fair and unbiased.
He said that the tribunal’s judgement was an indication of a future with credible elections in the state.
He, however, said that honest residents of the state did not see the judgement of the tribunal as an unexpected one in view of what transpired during the governorship election.
Another resident, Lawrence Chinda, described the judgement as biased and unfair.
He said that his opinion was based on his conviction that the governorship election in the state actually held.
Mr. Chinda described Mr. Wike’s victory in the governorship election as a demonstration of Rivers State’s support for PDP.
He expressed confidence that Mr. Wike would win the fresh governorship election that would be organised within the next 90 days as ordered by the tribunal, except Mr. Wike appeals the ruling which he has pledged to do.
According to him, Mr. Wike’s achievements in less than 100 days of his being in office, is a clear indication that he is the man of the people. In her reaction, Joy Terry, another resident of Port Harcourt, said that the judgement would offer some of the voters who missed out in the last election the opportunity to exercise their voting rights.
Ms. Terry, therefore, advised Rivers people to decide their future wisely by voting the right candidate in the fresh election. She, however, acknowledged that Mr. Wike had the right to seek redress in the appeal court and the supreme court.
A school teacher, Comfort Brown, said that the nullification of Wike’s election by the tribunal was not in the interest of the state because “Wike has started on a positive note.
“We believe he should be given the chance to develop the state and move it forward.
“The judgement will certainly distract his administration because he will spend time and energy fighting to reverse it at higher courts.” The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal for Rivers on Saturday nullified the election of the Rivers governor for non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
The tribunal, sitting in Abuja, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct fresh governorship election in the state within 90 days.
The three-member tribunal, presided over by Justice Suleiman Ambursa, gave the orders in its judgment following a petition filed against the election of Mr. Wike by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate in the April 11 election in the state, Dakuku Peterside. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/south-south-regional/192130-rivers-residents-express-mixed-reactions-to-tribunals-sack-of-governor-wike.html |
