PoliticsAPC Berates New Ekiti Assembly Members by isi4(op): 8:59pm On Jun 07, 2015
The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has described the newly inaugurated State House of Assembly‎ as a contraption by Governor Ayodele Fayose to protect his personal interest, instead of working to restore hope for the state’s development.
The party noted that such selfish agenda held no promise for the growth of the state and political‎ development of the people.

A statement by APC’s Publicity Secretary in Ekiti, Taiwo Olatubosun, said the profile of new members in the new Assembly had revealed that many men and women lacking skills in tedious business of law-making were ‘selected’ to be members of the Assembly above eminently qualified Ekiti sons and daughters.
This, he said, the governor did to advance his personal interest.
“Only few of them are worthy of the exalted position of legislators. We all saw the intrigues that characterised the primaries that returned the new members. It was ballot snatching and violence on massive scale. The same for April 11 Assembly poll.”
Olatubosun said, “Fayose just selected his cronies across the state above well-educated members and imposed them on the party.  Most of them are miscreants and school drop outs who Fayose compensated as honourable members.

“Fayose’s public declaration of political death for any member who works against his interest points to where Ekiti people are headed in the business of lawmaking in the next four years.
‎”We saw the first public declaration of loyalty by the Assembly members on the day of inauguration when they all prostrated for Fayose in the chambers, stating he is their father.”
But the PDP, in a statement by its Acting Publicity Secretary, Jackson Adebayo, said the new members of the Assembly were better in all ways than candidates presented by the APC at the poll.
“Although we know that APC is talking from a frustrated position which they find themselves after their failed evil plots to remove our Governor, Ayo Fayose, but they should also be made to know that there is nothing they say now that would change the togas of failure which has been attached to their name permanently,” the statement said.

PoliticsJonathan, N’assembly Settle Constitution Amendment Rift by isi4(op): 2:35am On May 28, 2015
President Goodluck Jonathan has agreed to sign the amendment to the 1999 Constitution passed by the National Assembly with some of the proposed alterations which the President had rejected deleted.

This was contained in the terms of settlement which was filed before the Supreme Court on behalf of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke (SAN), and the National Assembly on Wednesday.

The terms of settlement attached to Adoke’s notice of discontinuance and filed before the apex court put an end to the suit filed by Adoke to challenge the final passage of the alterations into law.

The seven-man panel of the Supreme Court led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed struck out the suit after Adoke’s lawyer, Chief Bayo Ojo (SAN), moved the application for the discontinuance of the suit on Wednesday.

With the concession which was said to have been reached between the representatives of the President and the National Assembly earlier on Tuesday, the President conceded six out of his 13 initial objections to the alterations.

The agreement between the President and the National Assembly saw the removal of alteration to section 9 of the Constitution which allowed the National Assembly to dispense with the President’s assent in the process of constitution amendment.

The inserted sub-section 3(a) in section 9 had read, “For the purposes of altering the provisions of this constitution, the assent of the President shall not be required.”

The President was able to stop the passage of the separation of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minster of Justice as well as the separation of the Attorney General of state from the Commissioner of Justice.

The President had refused to sign the amended constitution as proposed by the National Assembly due to the alterations to sections 8, 9, 34, 35, 39, 42, 45, 58, 84, 150, 174, 195 and 211of the 1999 Constitution.

But with the settlement arrived at between the President and the National Assembly, the alterations made to sections 8, 9, 45(a) – 45(b), 150, 174, 195 and 211 will now be deleted.

The National Assembly would hence get away with their alterations to sections 34, 35, 39, 42, 58 and 84 of the constitution.

The agreement signed by Ojo, and the lead counsel for the National Assembly, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), stated that the President would sign the Fourth Constitution Alteration Act 2015, with agreement reached reflected in it.

The terms of settlement read, “At the meeting of the representatives of the Executive and Legislative arms of government held on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 it was agreed that the views of the President be considered and effected by deleting the following provisions of the Alteration Act 2015:

“1. Alterations made to section 8 of the Principal Act on referendum in respect of state creation.

“2. Alterations made to section 9 of the Principal Act dispensing with the assent of the President in the process of constitutional amendment.

“3. Alterations made in sections 45(a) – 45(b) of the Act relating to Free Basic Education and Maternal Health Care Services.”

“4. Alterations made to sections 150, 174, 194 and 211 of the Principal Act relating to the separation of the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice as well as the Attorney General of a state and Commissioner of Justice respectively.

“5.That the suit of the Attorney General (of the Federation) in Suit No SC/214/2015 be withdrawn.

“6.That the President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR shall assent to the Fourth Constitution Alteration Act, 2015.”

The alterations conceded by the President included substituting ‘the Nigeria Police Force’ in line two of Section 34(2)(b), lines three and five of section 35(7)(b) and line three of section 39(3)(b) with ‘Nigerian Police’.

The President also conceded the insertion of a new subsection 5(a) into section 58 of the 1999 constitution which empowered the National Assembly to override the President’s veto in the passage of a bill with “two-thirds” majority of members of both Houses if the President “neither signifies that he assents or that he withholds assent” within 30 days of presenting the bill to him.

President Jonathan also conceded the insertion of section 84(a) to (f)which deals with the appointment of the Accountant-General of the Federation, tenure of office and removal .

The alteration empowers the President to appoint the Accountant-General of the Federation on the recommendation of the National Economic Council subject to confirmation by the Senate.

PoliticsPatience Jonathan Hands Over ALFPM Presidency… by isi4(op): 8:23pm On May 15, 2015
Dame Patience Jonathan, Friday, handed over her role as the President of the African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM), to her successor, Jadiya Hamdi Mohamed, first lady of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in Abuja.

Former President, African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM), Dame Patience Jonathan (left), handing over to her successor, Jadiya Hamdi Mohamed, first lady of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, at the emergency 8th summit of the AFLPM in Abuja, yesterday.

The hand over ceremony took place at the Office of the First Lady Federal Republic of Nigeria, in Abuja, during the 8th AFLPM Summit of the mission which comprises of wives of Presidents of all African countries.

The tenure of Patience Jonathan which started when she was elected as the mission’s President at its seventh summit held in Abuja in July 2012 is supposed to have expired in July 2015 when a new president would have been elected.
However, Mrs. Jonathan summoned an emergency summit of the mission on Friday, where she handed over to her successor.

It will be recalled that the action of the president’s wife was earlier calculated by critics as a ploy to prevent the wife of the President-elect, Hajiha Aisha Buhari, from replacing her as President of the African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM).

Meanwhile, Patience has cleared the air saying it is mischievous for anyone to scheme such allegations to cause disaffection between her and Buahri’s wife.

PoliticsSenate Presidency: Akpabio, Orji, Uba, Egwu Attend Pro-saraki Meeting by isi4(op): 6:01pm On May 14, 2015
Some Peoples Democratic Party senators-elect on Tuesday night attended a meeting held by some of their All Progressives Congress counterparts rooting for the emergence of former Kwara State Governor Bukola Saraki as the Senate President.

The PUNCH learnt that the meeting which held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja had 65 senators-elect in attendance.

A source who attended the meeting listed   Godswill Akpabio, Theodore Orji and Sam Egwu among the PDP senators-elect that were in attendance.

Our source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said some of the PDP senators-elect were backing Saraki because it appeared that the APC leaders were in support of Ahmad Lawan.

The source said, “For now, the PDP has not endorsed any candidate but some of us are in support of Saraki because the APC leaders appear to be supporting Lawan.”

A senator-elect from Kogi State, Dino Melaye, confirmed to journalists on Wednesday that some PDP senators-elect attended the meeting by Saraki supporters.

Melaye said that the   PDP and the APC senators had already confirmed their endorsement of Saraki.

According to him, the meeting was attended by many PDP and APC Senators, including Sabo Nakudu, Mohammed Gobil, Ali Ndume, Danjuma Goje, Binta Garba, Ubah, Shehu Sani and   Aliyu Wamakko,

He said, “The meeting was a mixture of PDP and APC senators. Forty APC and 25 PDP senators were in attendance. We resolved that we have to produce a senator that is made by senators.   Eighty per cent of senators from Lawan’s North-East attended the meeting and endorsed Saraki.”

But a senator elect, who claimed to be a member of the Lawan Camp faulted the claim that most of the PDP senators-elect had endorsed   Saraki.

The senator-elect, who did not want his name in print, added that some PDP senators -elect were also working for Lawan.

“We want to elect our own leaders in the 8th senate but the party, too, will have an input but it is important to elect someone with integrity, experience and a transparent attitude,” he said.

Besides the North-West, the South-West Caucus of the party had also endorsed Lawan.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Science and Technology, Senator Ajayi Boroffice, had in an interview with one of our correspondents on Tuesday, assured the leadership of the APC that the recent endorsement of Lawan   would not cause any rancour among the lawmakers from the South-West.

Besides Saraki (North-Central) and Lawan (North-East),   George Akume (Benue) is also contesting the senate presidency.

The APC has yet to zone the position and others, including the speakership of the House of Representatives.

But it was gathered that some members of the APC caucus in the North-West, who were earlier reported to have endorsed Lawan had started supporting Saraki.

In the PDP, among those supporting Lawan, are loyalists of the Senate President, David Mark.

Attempts to speak with Saraki on the issue were futile .

The Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media,   Kola Ologbondiyan, said that his principal had not endorsed any aspirant for the senate presidency.

“The senate president is not a member of the APC and he doesn’t attend their meetings,” he said in a telephone interview.

PoliticsTinubu Blasts Party Leaders Over Loss To PDP by isi4(op): 10:45pm On Apr 09, 2015
National leaders of All Progressives Party, APC, and former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed disappointment over the loss of five House of Representatives seats to Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the March 28th, presidential and National Assembly elections.
Tinubu stated this at an emergency stakeholders meeting to review last election and strategize for the Saturday governorship and state house of assembly election, held at APC Lagos Secretariat, Ikeja.
Those in attendance at the meeting were: State Chairman of the party, Chief Henry Ajomale, Senator elects, Oluremi Tinubu, Gbenga Ashafa and Olamilekan Adeola, Demola Seriki, all state party leaders among others.
According to Tinubu, who reeled out some of the results across the local government areas in the state, “You, the party leaders have disappointed us. For the first time, we lost five House of Representatives seats to the opposition party, this is unacceptable, a huge disappointment.
Though in politics you win some you loose some You have failed. So there is no excuse to fail this time.
“Also you did not come out in large number, were you afraid.? You have no cause to be afraid as adequate security is on ground to protect you and your property. So don’t be intimidated by their sporadic shooting of guns meant to scare you away from doing your civic right. The Hausa communities had a very good and encouraging turn-out, we expect better performance this time.”
Tinubu who lambasted the leaders for failing to adequately mobilize the people, including party agents across the wards, charged them to redeem their in-action or be changed according to the slogan of the party.
He stressed that despite APC confidence to continue in the state, the party can not afford to miss it again in the next election as its too risky to leave Lagos in the hands of those without experience.

Nairaland GeneralRe: Want To Be Generous? Eat Eggs –study by isi4(op): 12:45pm On Feb 07, 2015
Guess dats y I'm very generous...
Nairaland GeneralWant To Be Generous? Eat Eggs –study by isi4(op): 12:43pm On Feb 07, 2015
Need a bank loan? Perhaps you should make sure your bank manager has eaten eggs for breakfast. Or are you hoping to ask for money from someone? Praying that the person eats eggs before getting down to business might be a good idea. This is all because egg has been found to do more than give proteins and vitamins to the body.

Out of all the factors that influence people’s kindness and willingness to help, such as religion, upbringing, empathy, unavoidable return of favours, among others, one thing that may not readily make the list is the kind of food people eat.

But it’s rather amazing to note that eating eggs, yes! Eggs, can activate or increase human’s instinct to help others, especially in giving out money.

Apart from eating to nourish the body, for pleasure or some other purposes, one thing that may not readily come to mind and seems hard to believe is that some food can increase the willingness to donate money or influence how people help others.

That was the product of a study by some scientists. They found that a compound in an egg called tryptophan, acts on brain chemicals like serotonin hormone, (also known as the happy hormone in human beings) which triggers the charity instinct of the consumer, whether man or woman.

The study further revealed that high levels of tryptophan, an essential amino acid, play a key role in the production of serotonin, a brain chemical which is involved in mood and social behaviour, including co-operation and friendliness, while low levels have been associated with social isolation and aggression.

In other words, when people eat eggs, at least three, as recommended by the study, the tryptophan compound found in eggs activates the serotonin hormone in humans and stimulates them to donate more money. In fact, some researchers had earlier said that an imbalance in serotonin levels may influence mood in a way that leads to depression, which explains how powerful the serotonin hormone is in influencing moods.

The study, carried out by psychologists from Leiden University in the Netherlands, pointed out that the tryptophan compound found in eggs could increase people’s generosity and make them to donate twice as much as they would have.

This benefit is not just limited to eggs, the researchers pointed out that the tryptophan is an amino acid that can also be found in some food like fish, milk, cheese and soya, stimulating the production of feel-good hormones, called serotonin. This can change human behaviour and prompt them to donate more money voluntarily.

The researchers wrote in the Frontiers in Psychology journal that, “When egg is consumed, the tryptophan compound is converted in the body into the feel-good serotonin chemical, hence, making volunteers to donate more money. Consuming a small portion of tryptophan, which is equivalent to eating three eggs, could double the sum of money that such persons would donate.

“For the first time, we investigated whether the administration of a compound contained in food such as fish, eggs, soya, and milk can promote charitable donating. Our study is the first demonstration that charitable donating can be enhanced by serotonin-related food supplements.”

In the study, the researchers carried out the experiment on 32 men and women, out of which half were given a food supplement of tryptophan, which was equivalent to three eggs, and the others were given a harmless placebo powder.

They were instructed not to eat or drink anything other than water on the night preceding the experiment. They were also told to refrain from alcohol or drug use for the duration of the study.

Thereafter, each participant was given €10 (around £7.50) for taking part in the study and they were asked whether they were willing to donate part of their financial reward to charity. Collection boxes for four charitable organisations – UNICEF, Amnesty International, Greenpeace and World Wildlife Fund – were placed on two different tables in case the two groups would want to make donations.

When the researchers counted the amount donated in the box on the two separate tables, they found that those given the TRP food supplement powder donated more with an average of $1.15, while those who received the placebo powder donated half of what the first group donated.

In answering the question of how a food supplement could have such an effect, they said serotonin, which helps to maintain mood balance and sense of happiness in humans, is associated with social behaviour, such as acts of generosity and kindness. They added that eating food full of tryptophan can increase our willingness to give to charity by as much as double.

They stressed that the feel-good hormone, serotonin, could be responsible because of the tryptophan compound, adding that oxytocin, another feel-good hormone, could also be responsible, even though it is produced mostly during lovemaking. They pointed to the closeness of the areas of the brain associated with serotonin and oxytocin.

A co-author of the study, Laura Steenbergen, a psychologist, said, it may be likely that the willingness to donate money to charity is altered by the effect that serotonin exerts on oxytocin levels.

“Our results support the materialist approach that ‘you are what you eat’ and the idea is that the food one eats has a bearing on one’s state of mind. The food we eat may thus act as a cognitive enhancer that modifies the way we deal with the ‘social’ world.”

According to the report on Daily Mail, the researchers acknowledged that more research would be necessary to see if the results could be replicated. The study recommended eating one to three serves of eggs a day, where one serve is equivalent to two large eggs.

While commenting on the study, a neurobiologist at King’s College, London, Dr. Adam Perkins, said the study could be useful in encouraging harmony among people.

“These results are interesting because they raise the possibility that dietary supplements containing TRP could be used to assist with boosting charitable attitudes and behaviour in the population,” he said.

Meanwhile, some scientists and researchers have dismissed the idea that eggs are not good for the heart because it is high in cholesterol. They argued that eggs are rich in iodine for making thyroid hormones and in phosphorus, which is essential for healthy bones and teeth, and that they are packed with Vitamins A, B, E, and D.

Reacting to the study, a medical practitioner, Dr. Rotimi Adesanya, said even though he could not ascertain whether the serotonin hormone influences people’s generosity, it helps to control mood and emotions, among other functions it has in the body.

He explained that serotonin is being produced from the pituitary gland, where oxytocin in women is also produced. “So they are inter-related, because the pituitary gland controls the oxytocin, which on its own affects most women’s activities like emotions. When secreted in excess, probably as a result of excessive intake of eggs, the effect in the body, such as emotions, would also increase,” Adesanya said.

Also, a nutritionist, Mr. Okunola Oladimeji, said eating egg is good for the body if the intake is not excessive and possibly regulated. He explained that the white part of the egg gives no fat or cholesterol but that the yellow part increases cholesterol, on which its gradual accumulation in the body could be harmful.

He said, “When you fry egg, you increase the available fat, and even when it is boiled, the white part is the pure protein, while the yellow part increases cholesterol. So, if you eat the white part only, be sure that you have not taken any fat or cholesterol unlike eating the yellow part.

“It is not that all cholesterol are bad because cholesterol also has benefits to the body.”

PoliticsRivers CP Tackles Amaechi, Denies Patience Jonathan Link by isi4(op): 11:37am On Sep 21, 2014
THE Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Dan Bature, has faulted the allegation by Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, that he was deployed to the state on the orders of the President’s wife, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, to install a Peoples Democratic Party governor in 2015.

Bature, who spoke with journalists in Port Harcourt, said Amaechi’s statement was targeted at provoking him, adding that he had deliberately refused to respond to the governor’s suggestion that he was in Rivers for political reason.

The governor had stated that Bature was posted to Rivers with the aim of installing a governorship candidate of the PDP in Rivers State.

The new police commissioner said he was in Rivers on a normal mandate and due to the promotion of his predecessor and immediate past CP of the state, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin.

He described speculations in some quarters about his posting as misleading, erroneous, embarrassing and irrelevant, and should be ignored.

“I have deliberately decided not to respond to Governor Amaechi’s insinuation that I was posted to the Rivers State Police Command on the behest of Mrs. Jonathan to enthrone Governor Amaechi’s successor at the 2015 governorship election at all cost.

“I don’t think there is any reason for me to respond to comments made by Governor Amaechi as regards my posting. For the records, I came to Rivers State on a normal mandate; I came to Rivers State on a clear mandate.

“I came because there was a vacuum created by the promotion of my predecessor, Assistant Inspector General, Tunde Ogunsakin. Comments about my posting to Rivers State are highly embarrassing because police postings should not be matters that should be discussed on the pages of newspapers,” he said.

He added, “My posting is essentially a national duty. Comments about my posting to Rivers State are very embarrassing. Comments about my posting are misleading and irrelevant. Whatever you have read about my posting is designed to provoke me.

The moment I told him I got something mini doing, he started trying to tax me, he wants to go lag for interview,Nysc hasn't paid (bc I served b4 him) blablabla, forgetting I have a family to support too.

Just last week Fri, bc he happened to be in my location, he matched straight to my husbands' office, luckily that wasn't my husbands' branch. Then he started calling me - I didn't see it on time. Called back later, he said he needed trans money, but he has fixed it.
If I decide to blank such a person out now, I'm I wrong??
U not wrong, but only if truely u know dat person is just trying to take advantage... My opn. grin

There is this girl in my area we were both in a relationship. But as soon as she gained admission n turned Hall 1 babe(luv gutter tins) , she told me point black that she not interested in me anymore(funny enof I entered same sch b4 her). 5 years later after NYSC, she don finally come back to the same area looking for job and she heard I'm now working in Abj . So the last time we meant she was sad and felt like crying when she asked if I have a Girlfrnd and I said YES!..but ever since then she has been forming caring. I keep telling her I'm no longer interested in her but even the Devil knows that if she keeps disturbing me, I won't resist to put her further in her misery.

LAST BULLET!!!
The admission ladies misbehavior is not even worse when compared to the ones that get good job after Service. But in all, I thinks its PRIDE!!!
