Mr. Al-Mustapha said he has forgiven everyone involved in his incarceration. The former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State, Sani Abacha, Hamza Al-Mustapha, has reacted to postulations by former president Olusegun Obasanjo in his famous letter to President Goodluck Jonathan that he (Al-Mustapha) was released from prison to help the president train assassins to eliminate opposition politicians. Speaking to the Hausa Service of the Voice of America, VOA, monitored in Abuja on Wednesday, Mr. Al-Mustapha challenged the ex-president to a public debate on the allegations he raised. Mr. Al-Mustapha said he was away in India receiving treatment for injuries he sustained while in detention during the administrations of Abdulsalami Abubakar and Mr. Obasanjo when he heard of the allegations via a letter published exclusively by PREMIUM TIMES. “I read Obasanjo’s letter and subsequent comments by Nigerians, I would have responded immediately, but I was away in India receiving treatment,” he said. He also said although his name was not mentioned in the letter, he was sure the former president was referring to him. “If he has anything to say on me, he should mention me directly or even challenge me and not make allusions,” Mr. Al-Mustapha said. The former presidential security chief challenged Mr. Obasanjo to publicly ask him anything; saying he would provide him with answers. Mr. Al-Mustapha swore that the allegation that he is being used by Mr. Jonathan to train assassins is false. He said he has always been in the vanguard of coming to the aide of people from the north to be recruited into the military and para-military agencies; and would therefore never involve himself in anything that would hurt the region. “Perhaps it is Obasanjo and his cronies that are planning what he was insinuating,” he added. I have forgiven all Mr. Al-Mustapha said he had decided to forgive all those who had a hand in his incarceration when he was being tried for the murder of Kudirat Abiola, wife of the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Kudirat Abiola. He was initially convicted for the murder by a Lagos High Court but was discharged and acquitted by the Court of Appeal. He, however, added that such people, including Mr. Obasanjo failed to accept that fact and still harbour fears about him and what he knows about them. “I urge everyone to pray for Obasanjo to accept my challenge for a public debate so that the truth will come out,” he said. Mr. Al-Mustapha said he is focused on helping Nigeria find its rhythm by uniting the people, especially the youth and the poor. “From 1974 to the present, a lot of things are buried with all sorts of lies. But all would be revealed one day,” Mr. Al-Mustapha said. http://premiumtimesng.com/news/152050-letter-jonathan-al-mustapha-challenges-obasanjo-public-debate.html |
A former special adviser to ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo on Political Affairs, Chief Akin Osuntokun, has vowed not to quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying leaving the PDP under whatever circumstance is like jumping from “frying pan to fire.” The former managing director of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) told newsmen in Okemesi-Ekiti in Ekiti West Local Government Area of Ekiti State, on Tuesday that even though all his notable friends, including Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai and some governors had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), this would not make him follow suit. Chief Osuntokun, who was in Okemesi for the first year memorial of the death of his mother, Mrs Hannah Folorunsho Osuntokun, who died last year December, posited that neither sentiment nor emotion would make him dump the party, contending that those absconding from the party for one reason or the other are “time wasters, joining roller coaster party.” According to him, “it is not reasonable for somebody to quit frying pan in preference for fire,” saying what the present administration deserved was fervent prayers from all Nigerians in order to sustain the tempo of its current performance so that the country can move forward. He, however, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to also thread softly and also begin process of reviewing what he described as his “God given assignment of rehabilitation and reconciliation of the country.” Osuntokun also disagreed with Chief Obasanjo and some other Nigerians on some recent events and utterances in public and cautioned Nigerian politicians against taking hard line postures on certain issues, especially those whose end result could negatively affect the future of the country. He particularly warned some leaders of the country that he chose not to mention their names, against their negative actions, saying they would be judged by the amount of confusion and crises they generate in the land, saying those calling for one unattainable solution or the other to the country’s problems must be cautious. He stressed that controversial and volatile issues should always be avoided so as not to jeopardise the nation’s fledgling democracy. Osuntokun maintained that ongoing conflicts and disagreements between the political parties or individuals were usually the hallmarks of democracy that must sustain. On the coming governorship election in Ekiti State next year, Osuntokun who said he currently had no ambition to contest for any elective position urged both the electorate and politicians not to allow the exercise to tear the state apart. http://www.tribune.com.ng/news2013/index.php/en/news/news-headlines/item/29395-leaving-pdp-for-apc-is-jumping-from-frying-pan-to-fire-obasanjo%E2%80%99s-former-aide.html |

The Nigerian Medical Association has flayed the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, for threatening doctors in the state with ‘no-work, no-pay policy,’ to deter them from joining the ongoing nationwide strike by doctors. Speaking at a meeting with the Association of Resident Doctors and Medical and Dental Consultants Association, on Thursday, Oshiomhole had described the strike as provocative, illegal, avoidable and unnecessary. In a reaction to that, the President of the NMA, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, told SUNDAY PUNCH that it was sad that Oshiomhole, who was the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, could resort to intimidating doctors in his state. Enabulele added that the governor was overrating himself and was biased against doctors. He said, “It is not in Oshiomhole’s place to decide the legality of our strike. For him to say he wants to implement a no-work, no-pay policy is unfortunate. I’m not aware if he came out to say anything about the ASUU strike that was just suspended. That is to show you the bias he has against doctors. “Coming from a governor, who was a labour leader, it is very unfortunate. He should come out and tell us why he led Nigerians on different actions during his eight-year tenure as the president of NLC. He has proven that he has a hidden agenda. We have chosen to ignore him. Let him revel in his delusion.” Enabulele said the welfare and working conditions of doctors in Edo State were among the worst in the country. He added that Edo had a lot of industrial disputes because of Oshiomhole’s penchant for intimidating workers. The NMA president said the Edo State chapter of the association was not independent of the national body, and was under an obligation to join the strike. “All through his time as NLC president, let him tell us if some state branches of NLC, or workers in some states were exempted from nationwide strikes. NMA is a legally constituted national body, with state branches. The state branches are not independent of the national leadership. When NMA goes on strike, all branches are involved. Our position is that what Oshiomhole is saying is totally unacceptable and he is basically overrating himself,” Enabulele said. http://www.punchng.com/news/oshiomhole-overrating-himself-nma/ |
Decamping from PDP to APC is the same as changing NEPA to PHCN. |

Pro-democracy activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Femi Falana, said that the APC leaders were recruiting the former leaders who have been excluded from what he termed the “come and chop” policy of the PDP. “In bourgeois politics, the ongoing development is called ‘realignment forces.’ In the process, those who have been excluded from the ‘come and chop’ policy of the PDP are now being asked to choose their place at the table in case the APC takes over power in 2015,” Mr. Falana said. Lamenting that the APC leaders did not have any plan to woo the youth who constitute more than 60 per cent of the country’s voting population, Mr. Falana said the mobilisation of the past leaders and other PDP chieftains had basically shown that the opposition leaders were only interested in power. He said, “The APC has no plan to woo the youth who constitute more than 60% of the voting population. It is the belief of the leaders of both APC and PDP that the 2015 general election is going to be fixed by the traditional manipulators of elections. This is the basis of the ongoing mobilisation of the PDP chieftains including those who cannot win elections in their own wards. “By wooing discredited military and civilian despots who have destroyed the country since 1966, the APC has shown that it is only interested in power for the sake of power. “I understand that one of the retired generals is going to become the chair of the Board of Trustees of the APC! This is a case of alienation from the people. How can APC leaders believe that Nigerians want Generals Obasanjo and Babangida to be rehabilitated after destroying the country? “The duo ruled for 20 years and ruined the country in the process. General Obasanjo has just confessed that he has been installing incompetent leadership since 1979. And he is not ashamed to make that provocative disclosure. Has he offered public apology for his maxima culpa before wooing him? “The situation is not different in a number of states and local council areas where the new PDP is busy taking over all the structures of the APC. Since the APC is positioning itself to retain the status quo it cannot become a truly progressive party.” Mr. Falana said the PDP had started fighting back ferociously and violently because the stakes were high, adding that huge funds and weapons of mass destruction were already being assembled for the general elections while money, religion, ethnicity and other primordial sentiments were being deployed to confuse the electorate. Another lawyer and activist, Bamidele Aturu said he was not surprised by the visit of the APC leaders to some of these prominent Nigerians, adding that he had always known that there was no difference between the PDP leaders and their APC counterpart. “APC is not different from the people they are visiting,” Mr Aturu said. “They belong to the same ideological camp. They (APC) are not progressives as they claimed. You are not a progressive because you gave yourself that label.” “They are going round to woo these people because of the succession crisis in the PDP. What then is the difference in ideology and vision? PDP believes in selling everything. They sold PHCN. I won’t be surprised if some of them (APC) leaders bought it.” Mr. Aturu challenged the APC leaders to tell Nigerians how that they are different from the PDP members they are wooing. http://premiumtimesng.com/news/151839-pro-democracy-activists-divided-apcs-invitation-babangida-obasanjo-atiku-others.html |

LAGOS — With echoes of the open letter to former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo from his daughter, Iyabo, reverberating nationwide, the daughter yesterday gave reasons she gave up on her father ever changing. Senator Iyabo Obasanjo spoke against the background of mixed reactions from Yoruba elders and politicians on the import of the letter which she said was the last communication with her father. The former president himself was furious when approached by Vanguard, yesterday, as he hurled invectives at the newspaper. The exchange between Vanguard and the former president ran thus: Vanguard: Sir, we tried reaching you all through yesterday, to no avail, over the letter written by your daughter, Iyabo, to you. Chief Obasanjo: You are a bloody idiot, you have published the paper and you are now looking for me, you are an idiot, don’t call me again.…. (hangs up). Senator Obasanjo nevertheless flayed the orchestrated attempt in the social media by a network of associates of her father to separate her from the letter. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/12/gave-dad-iyabo-obasanjo/ |

TO avert a possible breakdown of law and order, the police have invited all the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to sign undertaking of good conduct before it can unseal the House for resumption of plenary. This is coming on the heels of an Ahoada High Court order, restraining one of the six anti-Governor Chibuike Amaechi lawmakers, Evans Bipi, from parading himself as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly. Bipi and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have, meanwhile, rejected the court order. Amid fear of a possible bloody confrontation between pro and anti-Amaechi lawmakers, the State Police Command, which have barred the 31 members of the State House of Assembly from sitting since a Federal High Court penultimate Wednesday voided the takeover of the state lawmakers’ functions by the National Assembly, said the directive that state lawmakers sign an undertaking was to forestall any possible breakdown of law and order. In a letter addressed to the Clerk of the Assembly and endorsed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, John. O. Amadi, on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police, Mbu Joseph Mbu, the lawmakers were directed to report to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, in charge of Criminal Investigation Department to sign the undertaking. The letter emphasised that all the 31 lawmakers were expected to sign an undertaking before they would be allowed into the House of Assembly complex to resume sitting. An excerpt from the letter read: “You are by this letter also requested to invite all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to kindly report to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, in charge of Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where each member of the House will sign an undertaken, that they will conduct themselves in an orderly manner, when they resume sitting.” The police through the letter told the Clerk of the House that they had directed the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD), Dog Sniffing Unit and the C41 Unit to carry out inspection of the Assembly Complex in preparation for resumption of legislative duties. The State Police Command yesterday revealed that it was yet to receive a copy of the Federal High Court, Abuja, ruling that nullified the takeover of the functions of the House of Assembly by the National Assembly. “You may wish to recall the court judgment of Wednesday, December 11th, 2013, in which the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, headed by Hon. Justice Ahmed Mohammed ruled that the Rivers State House of Assembly should resume sitting. This command is yet to receive a copy of the said court judgment. However the CP directs the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (E.O.D) Unit, Dog Sniffing Unit and the C41 Unit, to carry out thorough security inspection and sweeping of the entire premises of the RSHA, in preparation for resumption of legislative duties,” said the Police. Yesterday, there was huge presence of more policemen at the Rivers State House of Assembly. Forensic experts from Israel alongside Nigeria Police officials were seen combing the entire Assembly for any explosive devices that may have been planted in the building. There were well over 35 police trunks; over five armoured personnel carriers deployed to strategic positions along Moscow Road, Station Road, Court Road and William Jumbo, to nip in the bud any unrest. In his reaction to the police invitation, the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Mr. Leyii Kwanee, said the lawmakers would approach their legal team over the invitation by the police to determine if they would sign the undertaking. “We are taking a look at the letter. We also intend this morning to liaise with our lawyer for proper briefing. Suddenly the police that we did a letter to sometime last week with a view to visiting the Police Commissioner in order to give him an update as it relates with what has been going on the House has written that we sign an undertaking,” Kwanee said. He also explained that the leadership of the House had served the Police, the Clerk of the House and Bipi as well as others, an order of an Ahoada High Court stopping him from parading himself as the Speaker of the House of Assembly. The lawmaker representing Ogu/Bolo Constituency, Evans Bipi, said an Ahoada High Court order restraining him from parading himself as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly is not binding on him. Bipi who described the court ruling as that of a kangaroo court said that he was yet to receive any court order restraining him from parading himself as Speaker. “Does Amaechi obey court orders? My intention is not to sit and impeach the governor. This is a democracy. I am going there (the State Assembly) to resume my duties as Speaker. No kangaroo court order can stop me from resuming my duties as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. I cannot obey any kangaroo court in Ahoada,” Bipi stressed. Justice C. N. Wali of the Ahoada High Court had on Tuesday restrained Bipi from parading himself as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The PDP in the state has expressed dissatisfaction with the order and has described it as a gimmick and premeditated judgment coming from Governor Amaechi’s judicial stooge, who has records of perverting justice in favour of the governor. According to the PDP spokesperson, Jerry Needam: “The party condemns Justice Wali’s propensity of giving orders in favour of Governor Amaechi without recourse to the rule of law and due process. The party also hints that it would drag Justice Wali before the National Judicial Council (NJC) Disciplinary Committee on reckless interim orders”. At the instance of Vice President Namadi Sambo, and Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Malam Nasir El-Rufai, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and an indigene of Kaduna State, was on Saturday prevented from speaking during a remembrance event in memory of late Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa. Mr. Yakowa died in a plane crash last year, following a funeral in Bayelsa State, along with General Andrew Owoye Azazi, a former National Security Adviser, and four other persons. A House of Representative member who saw Saturday’s event confirmed it to SaharaReporters how El Rufai was belatedly told by the two Masters of Ceremony he could not present his goodwill message along with others who came there to do so. He said there were many people, cutting across party affiliations, present, including Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, his brother Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, Mataimaki Tom Maiyashi, and El-Rufai. “El-Rufai waited, anticipating he will be call upon to speak on Yakowa with whom they worked together during General Abubakar Abdulsalam’s government. But the two MCs Alhaji Zayan and Mairo Adamu hatched the plan and never acknowledged El-Rufai, having been warned. The Zayan is a director in Kaduna State Radio and Adamu is also an aide to the Kaduna governor. This is what we discovered. El-Rufai pretended as if he did not decode the entire game.” The legislator explained that it is unfortunate how politics encroached upon the memorial lecture. “Agreed we have political differences, but it was Yakowa’s family that invited us and the function is not PDP affair but purely family event. So you can see desperation and emasculation of freedom of expression. They know El-Rufai will pay tribute to Yakowa and raise fundamental issues regarding present situation of Kaduna State and the country in general.” It would be recalled that El-Rufai and VP Sambo, both of whom hail from Zaria, have recently engaged in a media war over the Zaria Water Project when the former Minister alleged during Sambo’s tenure as governor, he mismanaged public funds in the name of the project. Sambo has denied that allegation. Source:http://mobile.saharareporters.com/news-page/el-rufai-stopped-speaking-yakowa%E2%80%99s-memorial-instance-bamanga-tukur-and-vice-president-samb |

Brothers and Sisters, listen Insulting Nigeria on Independence Day for not being like the USA is like insulting our own father on his birthday for not being as rich as Alhaji Aliko Dangote. We need to grow up! Be wise and act like an educated fellow, if we all continue to insult our own dear Nation, motherland Nigeria, it's obvious we are telling the outside world to downgrade us when we approach their embassy or expect warmth embrace when it comes to diplomatic affairs. United State of America is now officially 234 years as a Nation, we are just 53 years officially, let's get the calculation straight. We can't change the world if we fail to change our own mentality. A bright future awaits us, it's not about hating Nigeria, it's about making an impacts, fulfilling our various destiny and continue to believe in this our own Nation. God Bless Nigeria! God Bless Each and Everyone of Us! |
