....I may sound like a Qur'aniyoon but I am not, and once again I consider myself a Muslim without affliation to any Sect.

There weren't sects when Holy Prophet [SAW] was alive, its when he died that it began to form and spread. For instance after the demise of Holy Prophet [SAW], some Sahabas supported Sayidina Ali [ra] as rightful Khalifa while some prefered Sayidina Abubakar [ra] - this is where the problem started. Mu‘awiyah reign compounded the whole issue.

I don't wanna go deep into the story, cos I believe you have read a lot too and I don't wanna confused nominal muslims as Sayidina Ali reportedly said; "Speak to people only according to their level of knowledge. Would you like for Allah and His Messenger to be denied?” [Sahih Bukhari 127].

Moreso, check my last post yesterday, I did mention we have two categories of Hadiths, Sound [Sahih] and Weak [Da'if]. I am not against all Hadiths. For instance Hadith Qudsi [sacred hadith], I believe it 100%.
Alhamdulillah you made some clarification but I for want engage you more even with the Hadith Qudsi you mentioned grin grin but me go leave am here as it is all about clarifying stuff and great that you would not want to go into the story part. I knew how I search a library just to read that story.

Abu Bakr was about 50yrs old at the time of the Hijra but you claimed his eldest daughter was 40yrs just to move the age of Aisha up to 30 yrs.

Ustaz! Ustaz!! Ustaz!!!

We all know what we are doing.
I know the age thing might not add up, but based on the angle you are coming that a 50 years old can't have a 40 years old is where I want to say this;
There is a companion whose age difference with his son is reported as 11(Amr ibn Al-‘Aas
and his son Abdullah ibn Amr Al-Aas). So, 50, 40 thing is feasible.

So the paradise also has printing press, book factory and library. So how about babies and young children (1 to 7) , will they also give account from their books or those ones go directly to paradise. In the paradise will family members stay together in one mansion or each person has different mansion? Sorry for the questions but am just curious.
As for babies who died before the age of maturity; it is believed that they would be admitted into paradise without accountability cos they never sabi anything.

For paradise , family (not extended) stay together. Family definition here means husband+wife+kid (unmarried as married would be forming another family setting too).

As for the printing press/book, grin grin, no be as you write am cos that realm no be as you might think. It could be in any form. Which form it is going to take, my knowledge never reach to give answer for that.

I think one thing I noticed about Islam is that the Arabs tried as much as they could to infuse their culture into the religion.

They were successful to an extent that they passed some of the norms in their own traditional way to the religion such that u as a non Arab adopting the religion has to accept some of their traditional way of life that were alien to u prior to adopting the religion. Christianity didn’t have that much grip ; that’s why u see churches like African Church where known Oluwo’s ( traditional cultists ) have seat in the church .While there are traditionalists in Islam too, they are not too open about theirs .
While this might look so from the outside, Islam actually abolishes some of the culture which the Arabs had. Some prominent ones include burying their female child alive, not eating wife food during her menstruation, entering house from the back and so on.
There is Islam and there is culture, where there is conflict between the two, Islam supercede but where there is no conflict, they can coexist.
For instance, in our Nigeria settings, the groom give the bride family some items during marriage, items like oil, salt, yam etc. This is not required islamically but Muslim do that as it doesn't conflict with the Islamic requirements of bride price.

So you are saying billions of people will stand in a straight line and start giving account of their wealth and how much money they spent on this or that before entering into a makeshift paradise with mansions and toilet made of gold. Does religion not sound silly to you?
cool cool
E go pass billions of pple sef since it should include everybody from time of creation.

I didn't say it would be a straight line kinda thing. Everyone would be given his/her book containing everything. So, everyone goes thru his/her own. So, definitely some book would contain more than others.

On the silliness part, grin grin, for every creed, there are stuff seen as silly but we just have to recognize the difference of view and respect it.

All it takes for a Muslim man to divorce his wife is at talaq 3 times and poof, he's now single.
Why does a Muslim woman need to go jump through all these hoops? Where is the justice?

Who is this truly benefitting?
Well pronouncement of talaq 3 times is still counted as one. I already mentioned that, for the facts that people do things wrongly doesn't change how the right way is.

A man doesn't just pronounce talaq without a reason and it hold. Talaq pronounce when angry sef does not count; there are process/step to it as he would be questioned if he was in his senses, then there is the waiting period (Iddah period) during which the man can still retract his step if he realize that na mistake he did. That, some pple are doing it wrong does not mean it is the right way.

Asking why the women has to go through the loop, well, I will just say it is how Islam defined it. I didn't make the rule but it is there.

I already mentioned that, all this is as it is. E sweet us or e no sweet us is not the koko? As long as you say you be Muslim (which is total submission) then na wetin the Islam talk be this.

I have seen many videos on the internet of Muslim women complaining that their Imam refused them divorce after trying to leave their abusive husbands, you have to admit it's a bit unfair for the divorce process to be so easy and effortless as proclaiming divorce thrice for the husbands while the wives have to "convince" a judge or Imam that her reasons for divorce are valid before she can leave an unhappy marriage.
Which was part of why I say as long as all parties involved would do the needful without bias.
The proclaiming of divorce thrice is a misconception please, divorce thrice at a go is counted as one.

......tell him to back it with a Qur'an verse. Let me tell you difference between Qur'an and Hadiths.

Qur'an is Compilation of Allah’s [SWT] words, revealed directly to Prophet Muhammad [SAW], while Hadiths are what Prophet's Companions and Relatives said they heard from him [Note; Hadiths were compiled after his death].

Also know that, each sect has their own hadiths. For instance according to Imam Malik (ra) in his Balaghan (Muwatta Imam Malik, 1601)

Holy Prophet said: "I am leaving behind two things the Book of Allah and the Sunnah".

Sunni Muslims do hold the verse tight to their chests like bitcoins, cos it can also be found in Sahih Bukhari [Hadith]. LOL!

However, Imam Muslim (ra) in Sahih Muslim (Hadith: 2408) reported what the Holy Prophet said as: "I am leaving behind two things the book of Allah and the Ahlu Bayt."

Shi'a Muslims no dey carry this one play. LOL! What bound all of us together is Qur'an, whether you are Sunni, Shi'a, Wahbi, Sufi, Ahmadiyya and so on.

If anyone wants tell me about what Allah commands or Islam permits, show me Qur'an verse(s) to back it not Hadiths.

Greetings Sheikh, I get reservation about the bolded for now even though na learn I dey learn. Alhamdulillah, you mentioned Tafseer in one of your comments.

An-Nisa - Verse 59
O believers! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. Should you disagree on anything, then refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if you ˹truly˺ believe in Allah and the Last Day. This is the best and fairest resolution.

How does the Tafseer you have read balance the above ayah with regards to Hadith talk?

The way we do our ablution today was Hadith. Suratul Maidah mentioned ablution but how it described it, is not how we do it today except maybe I don't know. The verse didn't mention inhaling and exhaling of water but we do that and some other ones too.

Iamdamilola did ask you question. I was also interested in the answer. You gave your answer, which was okay. But the thing I tell people is this; all of us go everly claim Muslim but our aqeedah (belief) and action na him go define us not we saying I am Muslim.

P.S: you are very good with putting up evidence, keep it up, I wish I can do that.

On that pantami talk, the explanation given was that, the poor would enter earlier than the rich due to accountability. Everybody go account from how he/she get 1kobo to millions and how he/she spend am.
So, it is understandable when such is said, as I remember, we do make jest of some rich men that they would waste time giving accountability due to how large their wealth are.
The religion abhor poverty as we are told to pray and work against it even if na to dey gather firewood sell so that make person no beg. That the reality is different today doesn't change what is there.

One of our predecessor (AbdurRahman bn Awf - Radiyallahu anh) who was given glad tidings of entering paradise was told same thing due to the level of wealth he has.

Realistically, how often is the wife able to convince the MALE judge/imam to grant her a divorce if her husband doesn’t want to be a party to it?

I know some things sound good on paper. But if you really look around you and see the types of humans that exist and how they apply their biases, then you should be able to decipher that some rules are just made to satisfy all righteousness. In reality the people who made those rules know it’s rarely enforceable.

Especially when those who would be responsible for enforcing it are those who’d benefit from doing otherwise.
For instance, if a wife is a victim of DV, she can file for divorce. To convince the judge, she would show proof that she is a victim. If the husband apologized and she still want in, fine. If she insist on the divorce, the judge can dissolve the union. No be the man marry himself, na Imam sign the marriage, so the Imam, based on some rule can also dissolve the union.

The convincing is not like a lobbying thing, na to show proof/workings for your case.

The rule is enforceable if all parties involve from the husband to the wife to the judge would be fair; no bias.

That some pple who should enforce it are doing otherwise doesn't change what the rule is. If a wife feels, the husband is infringing on her rights and can't bear with it, and she want divorce, na to prove her case to the judge.

Or for instance, despite the facts that some men just pronounce divorce anyhow doesn't change the facts that there are rules/guide to follow in going about it which some don't follow.

Maybe you are not familiar with women asking for divorce in your community, I have seen it both where the husband obliged willingly and where the husband doesn't obliged willingly but would have to due to Imam/judge intervention.

Just to be clear, i’m anti polygamy!!!

To answer your question, the sura was given at the time when they engaged in constant wars which obviously resulted in widowers and orphans. Considering men was also the main/only breadwinner at the time, it made sense for this widowers to be paired by responsible men would could afford and follow the just conditions

However, times are different and selfish religious people are often comfortable taking doctrines out of context or ignorantly falling to evolve their ways in line with current realities
You might not like a part of the religion but don't castigate/blame those doing it.

And again, the religion of yesterday, is still of today and of tomorrow. Time no change, na we pple change. Off course, there is different between Ibadah and other stuff. Any stuff not Ibadah can have a different way to doing it as it is not done with the intent of getting rewarded.

Please, the entire chapter of the Quran was revealed for all time; past, present and future.

Exactly. A religion by men, of men, for men.
If indeed it is, the religion would not have given men much responsibilities/task. Because, in an ideal settings, irrespective of the woman status, her care/security/all is the responsibility of the man.
The 'men' religion honour women in various ways, for instance, the men who you claim has the religion have their paradise lying under the feet of a woman (the mother), the woman is entitled to inheritance baring the facts that she is to be provided for, the woman as a mother is entitled to more respect than the father (men). Again, even when divorced, she is to be provided for, for a certain period of time depending on the scenario and she can be welcomed back again depending on the type of divorce/case.

Before you start and say she should just divorce him, in Islam, the man has the ultimate say on divorce. How convenient huh?
Women can also file for divorce in Islam
though it is disliked. But she can file for divorce if the husband is not meeting his responsibilities and fulfilling her rights and she can't bear with him.
If the husband doesn't accept, then if the wife is able to convince the judge/Imam, the marriage can be dissolved. That the women are silent doesn't mean they don't know their right. Some might be naive while some are trying to keep up with the husband.

The is just to make her realize that she don go against the husband and the husband has the right to discipline her.

BlueRayDick:
Alright bro.

One question please: What is the motive of using a chewing stick to "beat" a woman? What purpose is that "beating" supposed to serve? I mean if the husband is allowed to "beat" his wives "lightly", it is to what end? Is it supposed to make the women change or what?
The purpose na to make her change. In our time now, the purpose might be defeated but that doesn't mean make we change the definition of the beating, na to use other option if you know chew stick stuff no go work. Some mallams even said you should use a piece of broom not the bunch oooo.

What is "light beating" ? undecided

Any form of beating involves pain no matter how little it is . In fact, the dictionary meaning of beating is "a punishment or assault in which the victim is hit repeatedly"

Beating is simply assault no matter how "light" it is
It is why I say the word 'beating' has it's own definition in Islam not the literal definition we are all familiar with, just as you cited. In some textual translation, they use the word 'hit', hit her lightly. The 'beating/hitting' in this case is just symbolic not with the intent of harm or hurt which is also why lighter stuff like chew stick are used as example. If we are being frank, we can't consider hitting one with chew stick as beating. The hitting could even be in form of a play not as if you will say, come and kneel down let me beat you. Nope.
But if we focus on the literal definition of beating only, then there is nothing in the Quran that suggests that a husband is allowed to beat his wife irrespective of the situation. She is to be honoured and treated kindly, even when there is lost of love between them.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by islamics(m): 12:10pm On Jun 28, 2024
Just to comment on the beating part that people are asking if Islam allowed.

The 'beating' allowed is a very light beating that should not harm her in any way using stuff light siwak (chew stick) and it must not be in the face. Just a simple hitting. The beating is not beating in the real sense of it cos it has it own definition in Islam. You can't use koboko and term it beating , that one na you dey at fault.

If that were to be the case, why then would the same man be judged by the same God who has already predefined his actions/reactions and fate?

That would paint a picture of a callous God who's not actually the loving and merciful one the religious books talk about.
The same man is judge by God because na him be the beginning and end and can decide to do and undo.
Even with predefined stuff, we learnt that we still have will.

If I write a snippet of code, I should know the output even before running it. I might still decide to run it again just for running sake. Maybe after the output, I can still use debugger to run through it again.

The above is just an analogy.

When you read this and fully assimilate it, you'll understand that God plays no role in the fortunes/fate of man.

That verse is a contradiction to the concept of a God kind and his existence.
People keep honoring what does not exist or what doesn't play any role in their affairs, just because they lack the courage to do away with it.
Or rather we are playing/acting life based on a predefined script by God.
