Family › 'my Husband Cannot Satisfy Me Sexually'..... Wife by Islie(op): 10:32am On Nov 20, 2015 |
Should a woman whose husband cannot satisfy her sexually stay in the marriage?
"Dear
My name is Stella and I have been married for two years but I am not sure I can cope any longer in the marriage. The reason for this is that my husband, Kelvin, who is a pastor, is not up to the task sexually » and it is so frustrating that I am tempted to either leave him or seek for sexual satisfaction outside.
I know many holier-than-thou people will tell me that sex is not everything but I will tell you that as a sexually active woman, sex means a lot to me and I can't continue to bear any longer.
I met my husband when I joined their church and right from the first day, he made his intention of marrying me known but as a man of God, sex before marriage was out of it.
But I knew I was in for trouble on our first night as a married couple when Kelvin ejaculated even before he could penetrate me. Initially, I put it down to the stress of the day but the next night, it was the same thing and even when he manages to get inside me, he will lose his erection immediately.
After six months and the problem still persisted, I told him to see a doctor but he would have none of it, saying he will pray over the problem as there is nothing God cannot do. But two years of prayers have refused to solve the situation and he has vowed never to see a doctor or to even look for any treatment.
I am so frustrated and want to leave this marriage. Stella, http://pulse.ng/gist/morning-teaser-my-husband-cannot-satisfy-me-sexually-id4377602.html |
Family › Husband Seeks Dissolution Of 10 Years Marriage Over Alleged DNA Result by Islie(op): 4:23pm On Nov 19, 2015 |
A 48-year-old Artisan, Alabi Rasheed, on Thursday urged an Ikorodu Customary Court, Lagos, to dissolve his 10-year-old marriage to his wife, Sherifat, over the paternity of their second child.
Rasheed, who resides at Baiyeku Road in Igbogbo, told the court to dissolve his marriage following a DNA test that confirmed he was not the father of the second child.
“My wife is into infidelity act and I have caught her severally, one day, I took the two children whom she claimed was mine to do a DNA test without her consent.
“From the result, I discovered that the second child was not my own.
“Moreover, I am tired of her disgraceful act in the community; she is a debtor and could not even account for her business money.
“She was always arrested by the police over debts,’’ he added.
Sherifat,42, denied the he husband’s claims, and begged the court to reunite them.
“My husband didn’t tell me he was taking our children for a DNA test, he only told me they were going to a birthday party.
“I did not believe he did any DNA test, he just wanted to use that as an excuse for divorce.
“I want this court to help reunite us and settle our indifferences amicably,’’ she said.
The President of the court, Omolara Abiola, ordered them to go to hospital to repeat the paternity test on the children and bring the result for court consumption.
She adjourned the case till Dec.2,for further hearing. (NAN) www.leadership.ng/news/476070/husband-seeks-dissolution-of-10-years-marriage-over-alleged-dna-resultlalasticlala |
Travel › Ogun Crashes Kill 20 As Commuters Blame Bribe-taking Policemen (PIC) by Islie(op): 9:41am On Nov 19, 2015 |
Samson Folarin and Olaleye Aluko Tears flowed on Wednesday after no fewer than 20 persons lost their lives in a multiple accident at the Tollgate end of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Ogun State. Among the dead were a pregnant woman; a yam seller identified as Iya Nimota whose daughter would be having her wedding on Saturday; five bread sellers; two policemen and motorists.
A trailer reportedly rammed into four commercial buses, three private cars and a police patrol van. PUNCH Metro learnt that the policemen, from the Sango Police Division, had at about 11pm on Tuesday, stopped a bus conveying yams, and insisted on collecting N200 from the driver. The illegal checkpoint reportedly created a traffic snarl.
Our correspondents gathered that the trailer, from the Lafarge Cement Company, Ewekoro, conveying hundreds of cement bags, had a brake failure, and ran over the line of vehicles, pushing three of them into a canal at the junction.
While the 20 casualties had been taken to the Ota General Hospital morgue, the others were said to be in a critical condition at the state hospital. When PUNCH Metro got to the area around 8am, a crowd of aggrieved friends and relatives of the victims had thronged the accident scene.
A survivor of the accident, Lateefat Olukogun, said they had encountered 10 police checkpoints on the road and bribed the policemen at each checkpoint. She said when they got to the Oando area of Tollgate, they met another team of policemen, who flagged down their vehicle. She said, “All we were carrying in our truck were yams and sacks of garri. The police never allowed us to have breathing space as they kept stopping us on the road and collected N200 from us. “I was the one paying them and I had spent everything I had. I had N100 left on me. I begged the policemen to take the money from us and allow us continue with our journey, but they insisted that we pay the N200.
“The driver then gave his boy N500 and asked him to go and look for change to give the policemen. The guy crossed to the other side of the road to look for change. Few minutes later, he returned and gave them the N200. He had barely paid the money than we heard a loud bang.” Olukogun said she did not sustain severe injuries because she sat next to the driver “Iya Nimota was sitting at the back. The trailer crushed her. The driver of the bus, however, got seriously injured and he is in the hospital,” she said.
A relative of Iya Nimota, Rasheedat Adenekan, told PUNCH Metro that the deceased was preparing for her daughter’s wedding. While showing our correspondent the victim’s scarf, which was still hanging on the crushed white van, she said the deceased was almost home when the accident happened.
“I can’t believe she is dead,” she wailed. Another eyewitness, identified only as Sulaimon, said the trailer started crushing vehicles from the Dalemo bus stop, adding that no fewer than eight vehicles were affected. He said, “The road leading to the Tollgate area is a slope. This caused the trailer to move at a high speed when it lost control and hit v ehicles. Three cars fell into the canal instantly. We all mobilised to the scene to rescue the people.
“Four persons sitting at the back of a commercial bus were crushed instantly. Three people who were selling bread on the road were killed. The trailer broke their skulls. Three others lost their legs. Some people in the cars that plunged into the canal also died.
“There was commotion at that moment. Two of the policemen waiting to collect money from the driver were among the dead. We began to convey the injured persons into buses that would take them to a hospital around 2am.
“We appeal to the state government to put bumps on the slope to forestall a recurrence.” An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps, who was part of the rescue team, told our correspondent about 12 people died in the accident.
He said, “I was sleeping when we got the call that an accident had happened. We pulled out at least six people from the water, dead. But I am aware 12 people died in all.” PUNCH Metro learnt that policemen from the Sango, Ogun State; Ijaiye, Alakuko and Alagbado, Lagos State divisions, responded to the accident.
Meanwhile, there was a drama around 10am on Wednesday in the area after some soldiers descended on the policemen, including a Divisional Police Officer. A witness told PUNCH Metro that the accident had caused a traffic jam on the road and as the soldiers were passing in their truck, they became stuck.
“One of them came down and started controlling the traffic. A policeman suddenly came to challenge him. The solider, who had been told that the police caused the accident, slapped the policeman.
“As some other policemen surrounded him and started to beat him, the soldier’s colleagues arrived and descended on the policemen. They beat up the policemen and slapped their DPO. The police had to run away from the place,” he said. While confirming the incident, the Unit Commander, FRSC Asst. Corps Commander Leye Adegboyega, said five people were killed in the accident.
He identified some of the victims as Richard, Kazeem and Oloyede, adding that the corps recovered N54, 970, four phones, a bunch of keys and a purse with an expired driving licence, at the scene of the disaster. He said, “A fatal crash in which eight vehicles and nine persons (seven males, two females) were involved occurred on Abeokuta-Lagos road, at the frontage of Oando Filing Station, Toll Gate, Ota by 12.10am.
“The crash most likely occurred as a result of a Larfarge trailer fully loaded with elephant cements, which had failed brakes. It rammed into other vehicles and pushed two of the vehicles into the water.”
The Sector Commander, Ogun State FRSC, Mr. Adegoke Adetunji, said the rescue team had to leave the scene of the accident after commercial drivers and miscreants at the Tollgate went on the rampage, damaging all oncoming articulated vehicles.
He said, “The Area Commander, Sango was contacted and he mobilised seven police teams to maintain peace and order for the rescue operations to take place. The rescue operation was carried out under the watch of the FRSC and DPOs from nearby areas.
“The four injured men were conveyed to the General Hospital, Ota, through the police patrol vehicle out of which one later died. The remaining four dead bodies (two males, two females) were evacuated from the scene and deposited at the morgue of the same hospital by men of the FRSC, bringing the number of deaths to five.”
It was learnt that there was another accident on the road around 6.45am, involving eight vehicles. Those injured were said to have been rushed to the hospital where they were receiving treatment.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the accident did not involve his men in any way, adding that the Lagos State Police Command mobilised both men and materials to the incident. “We didn’t have anything to do with that accident. Please contact the Lagos State Police Command,” he said.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Joe Offor, said six persons died in the accident, adding that their corpses had been deposited in a public morgue in Ota, Ogun State. http://punchng.com/ogun-crashes-kking-policemen/Pic: Scene of the accident, Olukogun lalasticlala

Crime › Robbers Kill Father Of Two, Rape Three Ladies (photo) by Islie(op): 4:23pm On Nov 17, 2015 |
More than 20 armed robbers invaded several streets at Isale-Oja area of Agege, Lagos State on Sunday morning. In their wake, they left sorrow, tears and blood. The bandits shot dead a father of two and raped three girls. The daredevil robbers, who started their operation from Capitol Road, raided over 30 buildings in different areas and dispossessed victims of valuables. Residents of some of the streets said the robbers operated unchallenged for hours. They said they called police, but police did not show up until the robbers left.
A resident said that the father of two, Usman Muhammed, 30, would have been alive if but for his attempt to stab one of the robbers. One of the bandits shot him. The bullet which killed Muhammed hit a lady in the compound. The lady, identified as Rabi, is presently battling to stay alive at a private hospital. Another resident said: “The robbers, numbering over 20, stormed the streets in commercial buses and started operation from Capitol Road.
The robbers killed Muhammed after collecting N32,000 from him. They moved to Akerele and Papa Uku streets in the same community where they raped and robbed residents.” Muhammed’s widow, Hauwa, recalled her husband’s last moments. She said: “About 12:24am, we heard someone knocking on our door. We were surprised.
My husband asked who was there, but the person didn’t answer My husband went and opened the door. He saw the armed robbers. They were four at the door. One of them pointed his gun at my husband. We later heard that others were outside, waiting. They followed my husband into our apartment.” Hauwa explained that after the bandits gained entry into their apartment, they demanded Muhammed’s money and her own jewellery.
She said: “My husband and I handed over the money and the jewellery. Just as they were leaving, my husband dashed into the kitchen, brought a knife and attempted to stab one of the robbers. It was at that point they shot him in the stomach.” Muhammed’s shooting took place in the corridor of the building.
The bullet killed Muhammed and also hit Rabi who was inside her apartment. A resident said: “We rushed Muhammed to two private hospitals in the community, but he was rejected. He died on the way to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).”
The residents urged the government to do something about security of the area. Mr Kunle Idowu, a resident of Papa Uku Street, said: “The robbers robbed somewhere at Capitol Road before coming to our street. My house is close to the main road. The robbers were fully armed and came prepared. They called names of prominent people in the community. They said they came to collect what belonged to them. We couldn’t sleep. It was like a war zone. Every tenant lost one or two of their valuables.
“Three of our girls in the community were raped when the robbers could not get anything from their parents. Government should come to our rescue. We can’t walk freely at night.” A resident of Akerele Street said he was angry with the police.
According to him, when they got wind that the robbers were around, they quickly called the phone number of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Isoko Police Station, but the police did not come until the robbers left. When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Joe Offor, said he was not aware of the incident. http://newtelegraphonline.com/robbers-kill-father-of-two-rape-three-ladies/PIC of late Mohamed that was killed

modath: Ok, this is how it works;
1.MDAs prepare their budget for the next year,
2.Heads of MDAs go to the Senate to defend their budget.
3. Senators overseeing that particular establishment "request" for a little "something" to be added to that in order not to "slash" it.. Eg, min of pepper & salt puts in a reguest for 500mn, senators ask for 100m as the "fee" for smooth passage, which will automatically increase the 500 to 600..
4.They quickly source for the money from one of their numerous accounts & they pay up even before passage, otherwise it is OYO
With the TSA, there is no longer going to be money for heads of MDAs to steal let alone kickback to them.. All the inflows & outflows are no longer shrouded in mystery...
MDAs are presently looking for ways to spend what is left of their budgets, so it doesn't revert to TSA cos by 31st Dec, every unspent kobo will be pulled out..
Lawmakers didn't kill & maim to get to their post for that ish mehn..
Hope it's clearer, if it isn't, let me know. How I wish most nl will read this and be inform on what TSA means and its benefits.... We need to block places where free money are spent on bribing and corruption |

The owner, according to the police, sustained injuries after Okorie shot him in the leg for refusing to release his motorcycle. People around the scene of the attack mobilised to rescue the owner of the motorcycle who was struggling with the suspect. It was during the struggle between Okorie and the owner of the motorcycle which drew the attention of passers-by to the scene. The people were able to hold the suspect until the arrival of the police.
The police recovered a gun and ammunition from Okorie while the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Okorie told journalists that he was a soldier serving in Imo State before his dismissal in 2013. He said: “I am a dismissed soldier. I was dismissed in Imo State in 2013 because I travelled without permission. “After I was dismissed, I joined a three-man gang of robbers. One Chibuike bought this gun for us to operate with.
Since we have been operating, we have never killed anybody except the motorcyclist who I shot unintentionally. We usually operate on Badagry Road and anywhere we see what we like. “We have operated in more than five places so far and I have received over N90,000 from the operations. We snatch mostly motorcycles and handbags by pretending to board the motorcycle.
We will ask the owner to come down forcibly and we go away with the motorcycle and the owner’s possessions. “I don’t know if my gang members are aware of my arrest and I don’t know their whereabouts. I am married and have kids but I don’t know if they would bail me out or I’d be charged to court. If I’m released, I won’t go into robbery again.” http://newtelegraphonline.com/i-was-dismissed-from-army-robbery-suspect/

Crime › Two Arrested With Stolen Bus Inside Redeemed Camp (pictures) by Islie(op): 9:25pm On Nov 16, 2015 |

Two men, Tony Akpan, 27 and Michael Okpara of no fixed address have been arrested by the police at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG’s Camp situated on the Lagos- Ibadan expressway, Ogun state, western Nigeria with a stolen Hyundai bus inside the camp while the suspects were allegedly looking for a buyer for it. Police alleged the driver of the bus now at large stole the bus belonging to his employer, Christine Itegbe, a resident of Abioro Street, Ikate, Elegushi, Lekki, Lagos when he was sent on an errand.
The driver, it was learnt, conspired with the arrested suspects and drove the bus with registration No MUS 304 BS to the Redeemed Church camp to look for a buyer but before they could find a buyer for the bus, confusion set in among them. The driver of the bus, it was learnt, suddenly abandoned his vehicle and his two accomplices in strange circumstances and fled the Camp and he has not been seen since the incident took place on 14 November, 2015.
Police alleged that nemesis however caught up with the two arrested suspects when a vigilant driver of a senior pastor of the church sighted the suspects behaving strangely beside the bus inside the camp and challenged them. When the suspects could not explain to him how they came about the bus and their mission inside the camp, he reported them to the police inside the Camp and the suspects were arrested. During interrogation, the two suspects allegedly told the police that the driver of the bus now at large drove the bus to the Camp to look for a buyer but suddenly abandoned them in a strange circumstances.
The police at Illasan division, Lekki, Lagos where the complainant had reported the matter later retrieved the case file from the police at the Redeemed Camp division for jurisdictional reasons. After investigation by Sgt Orukotan Lonikola and his team, the suspects were arraigned before an Igbosere magistrates’ court in Lagos on a three count charge of felony to wit, stealing a bus and properties valued N295,000 inside the bus. The police prosecutor, Inspector Clifford Ogu said the offences are punishable under sections 409,285(7) (10) of the criminal law of Lagos State,2011.
The accused persons pleaded guilty when the charges were read to them, and they also pleaded guilty to the facts of the matter. Magistrate B.A Sonuga sentenced the two accused to 18 months imprisonment each without an option of fine. http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/11/16/two-arrested-with-stolen-bus-inside-redeemed-camp/lalasticlala Pic of Tony Akpan and Michael Okpara the thieves and the bus stolen

Crime › Aunt Tortures Toddler To Coma For Defecating (pictured) by Islie(op): 12:42pm On Nov 16, 2015 |
Samson Folarin
The police in Lagos have arrested a housewife, Grace Monday, for allegedly torturing her three-year-old niece, Miracle Peter, to a coma.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Monday allegedly flogged the victim for several hours at their home in the Ireodun, Agege area of Lagos State and subsequently slammed her head against a wall causing the toddler to faint.
The offence of the toddler was that she always messed up the room with excreta.
Our correspondent learnt that Monday had been married for seven years without a child and had travelled to Kaduna sometime in July, 2015, to get the victim from her elder brother.
It was learnt that the toddler was always messing up the house with excrement and after verbal correction did not work, the suspect resorted to beating her.
On the day the toddler was beaten to a coma, she was rushed to a private hospital and was later referred to a general hospital in the state for intensive care.
Monday’s neighbour, Adijat Fatai, said she had warned her on several occasions to stop flogging the victim.
She said, “Miracle (Peter) always defecated all over the house. I called Grace and advised her to be patient with the little girl because it could be that God was using the girl to test her patience.
“Sometime in October, I saw her cleaning the child up after she had defecated; she was beating her as well. I warned her three different times to stop flogging her because it was getting excessive. She didn’t listen to me and I immediately suspected she was under a spell.
“I told her husband to caution her but he told me Miracle’s father instructed them to beat her till she stopped purging. I left them and went inside my room. It was the following morning she came to call me that the girl had fainted.”
PUNCH Metro gathered that the landlord, Fatai Alimi, reported the matter at the Isokoko Police Division.
He alleged that Monday had inflicted several injuries on the body of the victim, adding that she slammed Peter’s head against the wall.
“We rushed her to a private hospital and I had to borrow money for her to be admitted and treated because the hospital management said we must deposit some money. She spent three days at the hospital. When they could no longer handle it, they referred her to a general hospital,” he added.
Alimi, who said Peter was placed on oxygen, added that she was incapacitated by the torture.
But a friend of the suspect, Alice Abuye, claimed that Monday did not slam her niece’s head against the wall.
Abuye, who claimed to be a confidante of the suspect, said she (Monday) had called her to express her frustration with Peter’s incessant defecation.
“Grace (Monday) loves little children. Unfortunately, she had been married for seven years without any issue. She said I should release my child to her so she could train her till she got her own but I refused. I told her to go to her village and get her relative’s child.
“On the night preceding the incident, she called me that the girl had started defecating again. After beating her, Miracle (Peter) told her if she confessed the reason for her misbehaviour, some spiritual forces would punish her. Grace and her husband prayed till 3am after hearing that.
“Around 8am, she woke up and saw that Miracle was still sleeping. She woke her up to give her a bath. She was about leaving the house when she saw the girl had hit her head against the wall. Grace did not touch her.”
Abuye told PUNCH Metro that the victim had been discharged from the hospital and released to the family.
But the Divisional Police Officer, Isokoko Police Division, Badmos Dolapo, said she was in tears after seeing the victim.
“In all my years in the police force, I have never cried. But seeing the damage that had been done to this child, I could not hold back tears; I wept like a baby. She had been brutalised. We will not leave any stone unturned in this case,” she said.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender had taken custody of the victim.
The Public Relations Officer of the OPD, Adeoba Adeniji-Adele, who spoke for the Director of the agency, Mrs. Omotola Rotimi, said the victim could no longer walk.
He said the agency was awaiting the doctor’s report on the case.
“We want members of the public to be prompt in reporting cases of abuse like this. It is mandatory under the law to report child abuse and failure to do that now attracts imprisonment of about two years. We all must join hands to end this menace in our society,” he added.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, when contacted for comment, promised to call back, but he had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report. http://punchng.com/aunt-tortures-toddler-to-coma-for-defecating/

Family › Court Dissolves 18-year-old Marriage Over Incest by Islie(op): 7:45am On Nov 16, 2015 |
Nosa Akenzua, Asaba AN Asaba Grade ‘A’ Customary Court in Delta State last Friday dissolved an 18-year-old marriage over a sexual intercourse by a mother with her son.
The 45-year-old Mrs. Nkulumenna Owefa admitted before the court that she seduced her son in a hotel in Abagana, Anambra State, after she offered him the sum of N50,000.
It was gathered during the proceedings of the court that the woman who sells trades at the popular Ogbeonogonogo market, Asaba deceptively asked his son (name withheld) to accompany her to Abagana near Onitsha, Anambra State where she booked into an hotel against her initial plan of meeting with one of her business partners at her residence in Asaba.
The son, who testified in court on what transpired between him and the mother before Senior Magistrate, Sylvester Oboh, said he was called upon by his mother to accompany her somewhere where she had bought some materials for sale.
He said, “On our way to Abagana, somewhere around Toll Gate in Asaba, we were held in hold-up; I was with mum in her car and the glasses were wound up as the AC was on. So our conversation was not being heard by hawkers going about with their wares or other motorists.
“My mum told me that she was going to take over me as my father has taken over my sister and I thanked her, not knowing what she was up to. In Abagana, after a lengthy discussion with her friend, we retired into the hotel room, where my mum gave me a bottle of coke already opened and I felt weak when she now undressed me before putting my dick into her private part.”
The husband, Mr. Owefa, who was in court with her daughter, Adlyn to seek the dissolution of their marriage told the court, “All I need is the dissolution of this marriage.
“My wife has committed the worst abomination and the only forgiveness I have for her is the dissolution of the marriage. My son remains my son because I know he was not seduced with ordinary hand.”
The Senior Magistrate (Oboh), having listened to both parties, granted the dissolution of the marriage, saying the man would take of the two children. http://punchng.com/court-dissolves-18-year-old-marriage-over-incest/lalasticlala |

Governor Fayose said in a press statement issued on Sunday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka that “the Federal Government should rather remove the veil on the face of REMITA so that Nigerians can know the real owners, through whom the All Progressives Congress (APC) is siphoning Nigeria money to fund Kogi and Bayelsa States governorship election.” Fayose said: “From all intent and purposes, this TSA policy is aimed at recouping money spent on the last general elections by the APC, as well as raise money for future elections, especially the Kogi and Bayelsa States gubernatorial poll. “It is also meant to enrich some individuals for doing virtually nothing and that can be seen from the discovery of N25 billion that already accrued to just a single company in one month! “How can the Federal Government justify a transaction in which a single company gets one percent, amounting to N25 billion in one month? “In this economic situation that Nigeria is, shouldn’t the one percent commission have been negotiated downward to like 0.1 percent which would have reduced the N25 billion to N2.5 billion? “Even manufacturing companies, with thousands of employees don’t make N25 billion profit in one month. “Therefore, what Nigerians are expecting from the Federal Government is explanation on the alleged N25 billion naira scam already associated with the operation of the TSA, instead of calling State Governors to a meeting that is aimed at imposing the TSA policy on the States.” Maintaining that he will not attend the Federal Government’s meeting with State governors on the TSA, Governor Fayose said the Federal Government cannot force its policies on States that are federating units in the Nigeria federation. “Ekiti State is entitled to its own policies and it is not under any obligation to accept Federal Government policies, especially the TSA that is already robed in the garment of fraud. “I therefore wish to state categorically that Ekiti State is not interested in the TSA policy and since the State is not interested, I, as the custodian of the popular mandate of the entire people of the State will not attend any meeting called by the Federal Government on the TSA,” he said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/i-wont-attend-fgs-meeting-with-govs-on-tsa-fayose/lalasticlala |

Health › Boy Suffers Ruptured Intestines After Father’s Brutality (pictured) by Islie(op): 7:34am On Nov 14, 2015 |
Kunle Falayi While children’s birthdays are supposed to be filled with fun, happiness and love from their parents, for 13-year-old Somtochukwu Ajebughobi, November 2, 2015, his birthday, was the day his father nearly killed him.
That day, Somtochukwu was rushed to the Reginal Mundi Catholic Hospital, Mushin Lagos, where doctors gave a frightening diagnosis. He had sustained an injury that ruptured his intestine.
This internal injury along with old scars and fresh injuries on the boy’s body reportedly raised the suspicion of the doctor, who attended to the boy.
Saturday PUNCH learnt when the boy was asked how he sustained the injury, he said he got the injury from school, an answer, which would turn out to be what his parents had coached him to say. The doctor, who said he instantly suspected it was a case of child abuse, referred the child for further tests apart from the initial scan, which had shown the internal injuries.
But the parents allegedly came back to the hospital without carrying out the second test. When the angry doctor insisted they had to present a police report if they refused to say the truth about what happened to the boy, they opened up.
Somtochukwu’s mother, Priscilla, then told the doctor that the boy was kicked in the stomach when her husband, Sunny, was beating him brutally. The boy was later referred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, for further treatment.
A referral letter signed by one Dr. Okojie, indicated the boy suffered “generalised body pains with abdominal swelling and hyperaemia” following the beating. The letter stated further that an assessment of domestic abuse was made, and that an abdominal ultrasound revealed “free peritoneal fluid ascites, ruptured viscus.”
In agony, Somtochukwu explained on his hospital bed that his father descended on him simply because, he decided to visit his aunt, whom his father had warned him and his older siblings never to visit.
He said, “My mummy’s sister said she would buy a new pair of slippers for me and I went there to collect it on my birthday. My daddy never wants us to see her even though she has been taking care of us since we were small.
“When my daddy saw me with the slippers and knew she bought the slippers for me, he started beating me. He locked me up in a room and beat me. He kicked me in the stomach many times before he left me there.”
Priscilla told our correspondent that she was away in church when the beating took place, so she was not in a position to stop it. When asked about the different scars on the body of her son, she attested to the fact that her husband had in the past beaten the boy brutally.
Priscilla has five children, of whom Somtochukwu is the youngest.
“I am not trying to cover up for my husband. I would accept even if he has to be locked up for some days and made to sign an undertaking not to beat the children anymore,” she said.
When Sunny was contacted, he sounded remorseful as he explained he did not expect the result of the beating would be that severe.
He said, “I did not expect he would be injured that much. What happened was a big mistake on my part. I blame myself for whatever has happened. He is very troublesome but I know nobody wants to hear that now.
“He wanted to jump out of the window and with annoyance, I drew him back. I think my leg must have kicked him in the process. We rushed him immediately to the hospital.” The boy’s case was so severe that officials of the hospital had to inform activists from the Esther Child Rights Foundation about the plight of the child.
Director of the foundation, Mrs. Esther Ogwu, said the boy could have died simply because his mother was covering up for his father despite past brutal beatings.
The case has yet to be reported to the police but Ogwu said her foundation was taking up the case with the National Human Rights Commission.
“Parents should not pretend they do not know they cannot just treat their children like animals. The protection of children against abuse and domestic torture is important.
“In this case, we want to ensure that this child is protected. The commission would determine the next line of action but the welfare of the child is very important at this point,” Ogwu said. http://punchng.com/boy-suffers-ruptured-intestines-after-fathers-brutality/lalasticlala

Politics › Exposed! Power Play Behind Buhari’s Super Ministers’ Appointments: Punch by Islie(op): 7:11am On Nov 14, 2015 |
Niyi Odebode and John Alechenu Facts have emerged on the power play behind allocation of portfolios to ministers before their inauguration by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday.
Saturday PUNCH reliably gathered on Friday that before the allocation of portfolios, the President was faced with the two options of continuous reliance on politicians and building his own political base across the country.
A close associate of the President, who confided in one of our correspondents, said that Buhari opted for the latter and decided to saddle his allies in the All Progressives Congress with “more tasking ministries.” It was learnt that the President in a bid to build his own political network and strengthen his base, decided to give more responsibilities to his allies.
Apart from favouring his long time allies, Saturday PUNCH learnt that the President had more or less adopted former governors Babatunde Fashola and Dr. Kayode Fayemi as his godsons. It will be recalled that Buhari, who was not regarded as an experienced politician, relied on the support of chieftains, including Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; to emerge as the APC presidential candidate at the December 10 presidential primary of the party in Lagos.
At the primary, Buhari got 3,430 votes; ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 954 votes; former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, 974 votes; Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, 674 and the Publisher of Leadership newspaper, Sam Nda-Isaiah, 10 votes. It was learnt that as part of the power play, there was subtle lobby by some party leaders before the allocation of the portfolios.
It was gathered that some leaders of the party had expected that experienced politicians, who played key roles in Buhari’s emergence as the APC presidential primary, would get more tasking ministries than those given to them. Senator Chris Ngige, a strong supporter of the President at the convention, was assigned the portfolio of Labour and Employment.
Also Ogbonnaya Onu, a former Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party is heading the Ministry of Science and Technology, while an ex-Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazzau, who headed the convention’s security committee is the Minister of Interior. The Presidency source said that although it was too early to talk about the President’s ambition in 2019, it was normal for Buhari to use his power in strengthening his network across the country.
This, the source explained, partly informed allocation of sensitive portfolios to those who were with Buhari in the ANPP and went with him to form the Congress for Progressive Change.
Fashola is the Minister of Power, Works and Housing while Fayemi is in charge of Solid Minerals. The APC chieftain noted that the duo were more or less becoming Buhari’s godsons in spite of campaign against their appointments, especially Fashola’s, in the South-West, their zone.
Explaining the influence of Buhari’s allies from his days in the ANPP and the CPC, a Presidency source cited the Minister of Communication, Mr. Adebayo Shittu. Shittu was the CPC governorship candidate in Oyo State in 2011. It was gathered that when CPC merged with other parties to form the APC, Shittu joined the new party because of his belief in Buhari. Some members of the CPC, who joined the APC, were said to have left the new party over alleged marginalisation.
The Presidency source said that Shittu refused to leave the APC because of Buhari. It will be recalled that the Oyo State APC kicked against the nomination of Shittu on the grounds that he was not a team worker, an allegation the minister denied.
It was learnt that not many chieftains of the party had expected that Shittu would be made a substantive minister. It was also gathered that some chieftains of the party had expected Anthony Onwuka, a professor of education and associate of the Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, would be made a substantive minister, but the President opted for Adamu Adamu.
Besides being an associate of the President, Adamu was said to have worked closely with Buhari in the defunct Petroleum Trust Fund. The Presidency source, who confided in Saturday PUNCH, said, “You will see that the President is gradually building his own political network. It is a matter of giving great responsiblities to your long time allies.”
A chieftain of the party in the South-West, who further threw light on the allocation of the portfolios, said the President had clearly shown that he was appreciative of the support he got in the zone in the 2015 elections. He noted that Buhari was building his own political base in the zone. Such influence will be independent of party chieftains in the zone.
He said, “The appointments of Fashola and Fayemi fall into this category. They are also part of the efforts of the President to show appreciation to the South-West. “He also believes that if any of these appointees performs creditably, Buhari will not need anybody to campaign for him or any candidate he supports in 2019.”
It was learnt that the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun’s closeness to Buhari was instrumental to the emergence of Mrs. Kemi Adeosun as finance minister. In 2007, Amosun was in the ANPP just as Buhari. It was gathered that at a point in 2011, he wanted to defect to the CPC. The APC chieftain, who expressed concern about the crisis in the party, said that three power blocks had emerged in the party. He said besides the emerging Buhari block, Tinubu and Saraki/Atiku camps had existed in the party.
Atiku was reported to have supported Senator Bukola Saraki to emerge as the Senate President against Senator Ahmad Lawan, the preferred candidate of other APC chieftains, including Tinubu. But contrary to the claim that he was not comfortable with Buhari’s ministerial list, Tinubu on Thursday said the cabinet would perform.
People entitled to their opinions–Presidential aide
When contacted, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, said people were entitled to their opinions. He said, “Everyone is entitled to his opinion and I cannot stop people from holding theirs.”
Party chieftains laud Buhari
Commenting on the appointments, an APC leader in Ogun State, Mr. Tunde Oladunjoye said that they showed Buhari’s commitment to putting “right pegs in the right holes.” He lauded Ngige’s appointment as the Minister of Labour and Employment.
“Senator Chris Ngige is the right man to provide much needed employment for hundreds of thousands of jobless Nigerians in all parts of the country, especially in the eastern part where there have been protests by youths in the recent weeks,” he said. Commenting on the issue, a chieftain of the APC, Rotimi Fashakin, disagreed with postulations that the President’s choice of ministers was influenced by anything other than a desire to deliver on his campaign promises.
He argued that the President’s list of appointees was simply a confirmation of his patriotic credentials because he has over the years, shown himself as one President who considers the entire nation as his constituency. Fashakin said, “The South West supported the President largely because of his persona as a patriot. You can now say Nigeria has a patriot as the President. “The responsibility given to Fashola and all the other ministers was not influenced by any consideration of strengthening his power base. The entire nation has become his constituency.”
Attempts to get a reaction from the National Chairman and Secretary of the APC, Chief John Oyegun and Mai Bala Buni respectively were unsuccessful. Repeated calls to their mobile telephones indicated that they were switched off. A response to separate text messages to them was still being awaited as of the time of filing this report 9:45pm. http://punchng.com/exposed-power-play-behind-buharis-super-ministers-appointments/lalasticlala |

Crime › I Use Explosives To Catch Fish – Suspected Robber (picture) by Islie(op): 8:03am On Nov 13, 2015 |
Samuel Awoyinfa, Abeokuta
A suspected bank robber, Aitlabor Gelebele, who was arrested with explosives by the Ogun State Police Command, has said he is not a bank robber but a fisherman.
He told journalists while being paraded that he used the explosives to kill large number of fish in the river and then sold them.
According to the police authorities, Gelebele and three others – Moses Demene, Friday Saborom and Mohammadu Kaidiri – were arrested while planning to rob a bank in the Ijebu Ode area of the state.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Celestine Okoye, said the suspected robbers were arrested last month with four explosive devices and connection wires.
He explained that bank robbers usually use explosive devices to blast bank security doors.
But Gelebele denied any knowledge of the robbery operation, explaining that the explosives were used for fishing in Delta State before Demene called him that he was ready to pay N150, 000 for the devices.
According to him, he agreed to sell the explosives because he needed money to take care of his pregnant wife.
He said, “I normally use the explosives for fishing by putting the explosives in the water and then connect them to wires.
“When the explosives go off, they shock the fish to death and I catch them.”
In his reaction, Demene who identified himself as the leader of the gang, said he was aware of a robbery plan on a bank in Ijebu Ode and had to call Gelebele who was in the possession of the explosives.
He said they were on their way to meet the leader of the gang after alighting from a bus from Delta State when a commercial motorcycle rider suspected them and invited the police.
The police boss, Okoye, said all the suspects were coming from Delta State to meet another leader of the gang simply identified as Wisdom who was planning a robbery operation.
The police boss explained that the case was still under investigation and the suspects would be charged to court at the appropriate time.
He said, “Information was received by policemen on patrol at Ayepe town that a gang had been seen with bags and on getting the information, they were intercepted by the team.
“When they were searched, four explosive devices with three connection wires were recovered from them. The suspects confessed that they were coming from Delta State to meet their gang leader named Wisdom in Ogun State, now at large, to rob.”
The police also paraded a member of a trans-border robbery syndicate, Atevonou Sesco, who was arrested after successfully snatching a Toyota Sequoia with number plate, EPE 956 DP, in Ilase, Idiroko area of the state.
Okoye explained that efforts to get the owner of the vehicle had yielded no result which gave the impression that the owner might have been killed in the operation. http://punchng.com/i-use-explosives-to-catch-fish-suspected-robber/

Crime › Man Held For Robbery Day After Leaving Prison (photo) by Islie(op): 12:32pm On Nov 12, 2015 |
Olufemi Atoyebi, Ibadan
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 39-year-old Segun Adeleke for allegedly robbing a motorcyclist in Oyo town.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Adeleke had served two separate jail terms and his latest arrest came a day after he completed a five-year jail term.
According to police authorities, he was released from prison on November 4, 2015 and allegedly committed robbery the following day.
While parading the suspect and others, the state Commissioner of Police, Leye Oyebade, said Adeleke was arrested during an unsuccessful robbery.
He said, “The victim, Azeez Saheed, was robbed by the suspect while returning from his farm at Abu Village via Akinmorin, Oyo. The suspect barricaded the road with logs of wood waiting for the suspect. He tried to overpower his victim by stabbing him with a broken bottle but despite his injury, the victim raised the alarm which eventually led to his arrest.”
The suspect, who said he regretted his action, confirmed that he had served two jail terms of seven years for robbery.
He explained that he was jailed for the first time in 2000.
He said after his release, he had no relatives to assist him financially and he had no other option but to return to his old ways.
“I spent five years in prison and I was just released. However, I was hungry after leaving prison recently. I had no relation to feed me in Oyo so I took to robbery again”, he said.
When asked why he had no relatives, the suspect said, “I was born in Ibadan but someone took me and my siblings to Oyo town when I was seven. We grew up with her because she refused to take us back to our real parents,” he said.
The suspect said he was in his early 20s when he was first sentenced for robbery.
“I stole shirts and money and it earned me two years in jail. In 2000, I robbed a motorcyclist and got arrested. I was put behind bars for the offence in Oyo. I feel sad,” he said. http://punchng.com/man-held-for-robbery-day-after-leaving-prison/

Politics › Fears Grip Directors Over Perm Secs Sacking by Islie(op): 7:53am On Nov 12, 2015 |
Niyi Odebode and Friday Olokor
There are indications that the Federal Government has begun the restructuring of departments and directorates in the federal civil service.
It was learnt on Wednesday that following the compulsory retirements of 17 permanent sectaries on Tuesday, fears had gripped directors in the federal civil service.
Many of them, findings showed, feared that the re-organisation of departments and agencies might lead to their ouster from the civil service.
The PUNCH reliably gathered that the ongoing restructuring of departments was in line with the merging of some ministries by President Muhammadu Buhari.
On Tuesday, Buhari reduced the number of federal ministries from 29 to 25. He scrapped the ministries of police, aviation, and special duties. Ministries of lands, housing, urban development and works have been merged to become the Ministry of Works and Housing.
The ministries of information, culture, national orientation and tourism have been merged to become the Ministry of Information and Culture.
It was gathered that the restructuring would affect Grade Levels 15 to 17 officers, who were mostly assistant directors, deputy directors and directors.
A director, who confided in one of our correspondents, was handling the re-organisation of the departments and directorates.
He said in ministries that were merged, some directors might become redundant, and a few of them might be retired.
He, however, said that such compulsory retirement might affect those who have few years to spend in the civil service.
He also said that likely to be affected were those who had cases of graft.
A senior officer in the office of the Head of Service, who pleaded anonymity because he had not been authorised to speak on the issue, explained the reasons for the restructuring.
He said, “What I can tell you for sure is that this is a restructuring exercise by the present administration aimed at revitalising and re-engineering the civil service for effective service delivery. So, if the Federal Government feels that merging of a particular ministry with another is going to bring smooth governance, so be it. You cannot challenge the government for a particular action that is going to bring service delivery for Nigeria. So, the merger certainly is going to bring service delivery better for the development of the nation.”
On the departments that would be merged, he said, “For now, no clear statement has been made on it. But from what we have seen, some ministries have been merged. The government is taking these steps to make governance easier and straightforward.”
But in his reaction, the Secretary-General of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, Mr. Alade Lawal, said the union would resist the compulsory retirement of directors.
He advised the government against the retirement of civil servants because of the reduction in the number of ministries.
Lawal said, “The other area where we want to advise the government to thread with caution is the rumour making the rounds that some directors will be removed from service. On this one, we will resist the move and also challenge it with all trade union actions at our disposal. The post of a director is a career position and not political.
“The retirement position is governed by the Public Service Rules which stipulates 60 years of age or 35 years of service, whichever comes first. Any attempt to remove them prematurely before the terminal end of their career is unlawful and we will not accept it. This is not saying that anyone that is found wanting cannot be disciplined. In doing that, however, due process must be followed.”
He, however, said that the government had the right to remove permanent secretaries because they were political appointees. http://punchng.com/fears-grip-directors-over-perm-secs-sacking/lalasticlala |
