PoliticsBoko Haram Abducts Teenage Girls In Borno, Kill Seven by Islie(op): 7:52pm On Nov 29, 2015
Abuja , By Abdulkareem Haruna

At least seven persons were left dead in Bam village of Borno state when armed Boko Haram terrorists attacked in the early hours of Sunday and abducted unspecified, but large number of teenage girls, witnesses said.

Bam village, located in Biu local government area of Borno state is about 170km south of Maiduguri, the state capital.
Residents of the attacked village said the gunmen crept upon them at about 3.30am, while they were still fast asleep. Houses were set ablaze while many, including women and children were injured.

Mallam Ali, resident of Bam, said he and many other lucky villagers managed to flee into the neighboring Miringa town from where he spoke to journalists on phone.

“The Boko Haram terrorists came at about 3.30 in the morning. They gun shots are chanting of ‘Allahu akbar woke us up. They asked those that could not escape to gather in the center of the villager, and then they separated many of the teenage girls from married women. They set almost the whole town ablaze before leaving with the girls.

“We want the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buaratai, to do something fast because we have been telling the soldiers that the Boko Haram are in some of the villages not far away but the soldiers only went to Mangari village which is some few kilometers away from Buratai befoere they turned back,” Ali said.

The terrorists, had in a separate attack on Friday attacked Gajiganna village in Magumeri local government area of Borno where they reportedly killed three persons including a soldier.

Jibrin Aliyu, an operative of the Civilian-JTF had informed journalists in Maiduguri that “the attacked took place in Gajkigana at about 8pm: they killed a man, a woman and a soldier before leaving with looted food stuffs after setting most of the town on fire.
Jibrin said the attack on Gajigana was some revenge mission.

“I believe it was a revenge mission, because it was just recently that we arrested over 17 Boko Haram insurgents and handed them over to the military. We even told them that we should go after the others because we had vital information that the terrorists have been camping in Kemon and other nearby villages.

When contacted for comments, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Victor Isuku, said he had not gotten any signal from the District Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Biu local government even though he promised to get back to our reporter as soon as he confirmed the development.

Christianity Etc19-yr-old Pastor Impregnates Female Church Founder (PIC) by Islie(op): 7:18am On Nov 28, 2015
A 19-year-old pastor has impregnated his church founder and snatched her from her husband.

A 19-year-old pastor in Zimbabwe, Frank Emmanuel, has caused a stir after he allegedly impregnated the founder of his church, Bernadette Nyanga, 26, and snatching her from her husband, reports Masasi News.

The woman who is the owner of Hope and Life Ministries based in Dangamvura, has been married for two years to Leslie Mparutsa, but has been having sexual relationships with her young pastor and is currently carrying his baby.

But the 19-year-old pastor has maintained that he did not get another man's wife pregnant because the woman and her husband have been separated and according to him, she was free to date him.

“I am not dating someone’s wife. The two (Bernadette and Leslie) broke up and I don’t know why he is continuously pestering her.

If you want to get the truth, call Bernadette on her NetOne line. Leslie is out to tarnish my image as a man of God as well as that of Bernadette who recently founded her own ministry.

She is a woman of God and some people are misleading Leslie to tarnish our image. I cannot say anything on the alleged affair, why can’t you phone Bernadette?” Emmanuel told reporters

But the bitter husband is not having any of that, accusing Emmanuel of being the cause of the break down of his marriage.

“I have lost my wife of two years to a young pastor in Dangamvura, Frank and the two are spending most of their time together. At one time, I confronted Frank to leave my wife alone, but he told me that Bernadette had lied to her that she had divorced me.

The two continued with their affair. I arrived home last Tuesday night from church and discovered that my wife was not at home. I waited for her return in vain and decided to look for her at Frank’s house in Area 3.

It was around midnight and I was told that he had left and was now staying in Founders area of Nyamauru also in Dangamvura,” he said.

Leslie said followed the two to their new love nest and allegedly caught up with the lovebirds who were walking in the company of Frank’s three body guards.

“The body guards confronted me and told me to leave the two alone. They warned me never to confront their prophet again. I left them and decided to make a police report at Dangamvura Police Station since I had been threatened by them as well as Bernadette’s text messages.

I was advised by the police that it was a civil matter. I was actually forced by her late mother to marry Bernadette. My late mother-in-law bankrolled my wedding in December 2013 after I had told her that I did not have the resources for such an occasion.

She said I would repay her later, but unfortunately, she passed on before I paid her money back. My two year marriage with Bernadette failed to produce any children and I later discovered that my wife was taking birth control tablets. What is paining me most is her claims that she is now carrying Frank’s baby, yet our marriage is still to be annulled,” the agrieved Mparutsa said.

The things that happened in God's vineyard!

It was a sad experience for Segun Adeyemi after he discovered that his belongings were carted away by a micro finance bank over a N4,000 debt owed by his wife in Lagos State, western Nigeria.

The incident happened at their residence at 3, Adeyeye street, Megida area of Ayobo Ipaja on the outskirts of Lagos.

P.M.NEWS learnt that among the items the bank carted away include their matrimonial bed, plasma television, refrigerator, generator, cooking utensils, cash and other valuables kept in the house.

According to Segun, his wife Remilekun Adeyemi, who is a petty trader, went to the management of Bisi Cash Micro Finance Bank whose office is located at Onifade Road Junction in Ayetoro, Ogun State and borrowed N40,000 to start a business.

He said before she was given the loan, the management first deducted their own interest from the loan and gave her the balance.

P.M.NEWS also gathered that Remilekun also entered into an agreement to be remitting some amount of the money every week untill she finished paying back the entire loan.

P.M.NEWS also learnt that once a loan beneficiary defaults, all such person’s property will be consficated, which is the fate Remilekun has suffered along with her husband.

According to her, she had been dutifully paying the money until it remained N4,300 balance last week.

She said she was unable to pay last week after their son fell sick and was rushed to a hospital.
While she was on her way to the hospital, the management of the bank invaded their home and carted away all their household items.

When Segun went to the management to know why they did so, they told him that his wife breached the agreement.

They told him that he was also liable because he knew about the loan and stood as surety for his wife.
When he offered to pay the money in order to take back his belongings, they refused and claimed that the property now belonged to them.

When our reporter went to their office on Thursday, the staff confirmed the incident and said it was part of the agreement the woman entered with them.

Efforts to contact the manager identified as Shade failed as she refused to speak on what transpired.
She said they seized the property because of the debt she owed the bank.

P..M NEWS investigation revealed that it was not only Segun and his wife that have found themselves in such predicament. Many other women whose belongings were seized were seen in the bank premises bemoaning their plight.

PoliticsSix Months After, Obasanjo Lauds Jonathan For Successful Handover To Buhari by Islie(op): 7:37am On Nov 26, 2015
By Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor & Ikenna Asomba

Almost six months after the change of government, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has for the first time congratulated former President Goodluck Jonathan for successfully handing over to President Muhammadu Buhari and commended him for continuing to have faith in Nigeria.

Obasanjo’s commendation was contained in his reply to President Jonathan’s earlier notification of his plans to establish a foundation following the end of his term in office as president.

Jonathan had in a letter dated September 22, 2015, formally notified Obasanjo of his intention to set up a foundation to promote good works.

In the letter which Jonathan started with “Dear Baba,” Jonathan had said:
“I will be devoting the rest of my life and energy to making the world a better place. I am currently finalizing efforts to set up The Goodluck Jonathan Foundation. More details on the work of the foundation will be available at the launch, which I believe should take place by the 3rd quarter of 2016.”

However, Obasanjo, in a response published by the online newspaper,
Premium Times, wrote:
“Dear President Goodluck Jonathan,
I write to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of September 22, 2015. I take this opportunity to congratulate you on your successful handover to the current President of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari.

“I am happy to note that you had a good rest and time with your family during the break. I hope you also had time to reflect and see what lessons you have learned and what you can bequeath to others. All of us who have had experience in our service to the nation and to humanity must not put it under the bushel.

“I have to commend you and your Foundation, Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, for the faith you continue to have in Nigeria. Maybe, seeking how to be better and more serviceable to the nation and humanity is also a form of penitence and soul-searching to give conscience a relief and to show remorse.

“I wish you well as you continue to forge ahead with your activities in the coming months and years. If there is any area you feel I can be of help, you should not hesitate to call on me.”

CrimeBurglar Arrested While Entertaining Self In Victim’s House by Islie(op): 8:44am On Nov 25, 2015
Samson Folarin
A 28-year-old burglary suspect, Olamilekan Olaoluwa, has been arrested by policemen from the Iponri division after breaking into a house in the Ebute-Meta area of Lagos State.

The Kwara State indigene was said to have broken into a two-bedroomed flat on Brickfield Road on Sunday around 2pm, while the occupant was away.

Olaoluwa, a secondary school dropout, removed a Plasma TV from the wall where it was hung and packed the clothes, wristwatches and a handset of his victim.
Not done, he proceeded to the kitchen and opened the fridge where he picked a can of malt to refresh himself.

He was still entertaining himself when the owner of the apartment came in and found the suspect with the loot.

She was said to have raised the alarm, drawing the attention of residents who beat up the suspect before handing him over to the police.

Olaoluwa, who claimed to have spent six years to train as a plumber, said he did not have a job or a place of abode.
He said he broke into his victim’s house because the gate was left open.

He said, “I am a secondary school dropout. I do not have a permanent place of abode, but I sometimes sleep in the Oko Baba Sawmill in Ebute-Meta.

“I don’t always steal from people. On Sunday, November 22, around 2pm, I was passing by when I saw that the gate was slightly opened and that made it easy for me to enter.

“I broke the padlock and entered the sitting room where I removed the Plasma TV. I then entered the bedroom and took the woman’s husband underwears and wristwatches.

“I also took the handset and the TV’s remote control. I opened the fridge and took a can of malt and drank it. I was going downstairs when I saw the woman. She asked who I was and what I was doing in her house.

“I asked her not to shout, but she shouted and people came inside the house.”
It was learnt that the suspect hid himself in a corner of a room in the house, but was found after an intense search.
Some hoodlums allegedly beat him up before he was handed over to the police.

The police said the suspect was arrested with the Plasma TV valued at N150,000; two wristwatches valued at N50,000; underwear estimated at N10,000; a mobile phone valued at N5,000, adding that everything summed up to N215,000.

The Investigating Police Officer, Chukwuocha Augustine, arraigned the suspect on Tuesday before an Ebute-Meta Magistrates’ Court on four counts of burglary, malicious damage, breach of the public peace and stealing.

The Police Prosecutor, Corporal Kokoye Olusegun, said the offences were punishable under sections 305, 337, 285, 166 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
The defendant pleaded guilty to all the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs. O.O.A. Fowowe-Erusiafe, ruled that Olaoluwa be remanded in prison custody.

She adjourned the case till November 30 for facts and sentence.

CrimeArea Boys Kill Father Of Two Over 'egunje' In Lagos (photo) by Islie(op): 4:25pm On Nov 24, 2015
Panic has continued to grip residents of Ekoro community in Lagos over the death of a resident of the area, who was stabbed to death by a group of Area boys, who were demanding for “egunje” from a landlord in the area.
The residents are not only clamouring for justice but also scared by the likely return of the hoodlums to the community as a result of their insistence on justice.

The 31-year-old deceased, identified as Samuel Omotayo, was on the fateful day returning home, when he ran into the hoodlums, who were protesting the refusal of a landlord in the area to give them money, after selling one of his buildings.

It was gathered that the hoodlums, numbering over ten, had accused the deceased father of two for daring them by walking into their midst while other residents were scared of them and running away from their side.

A younger brother to the deceased, Olorunfemi, while speaking with the Crime Reports, appealed to the state police commissioner, Mr Fatai Owoseni, and the state government to ensure that the killers of his brother are brought to book.

Olorunfemi, who claimed he was with his brother a few hours before he was killed, narrated that: “I was with him around 9am when he told me he was going to Olorunda Street at Vulcanizer bus stop to buy something; I was shocked only to receive a phone call a few minutes later that he had been killed.”

The deceased’ s younger brother said further that “Samuel’s death should not be swept under the carpet like other murder cases; his wife is pregnant with their third child. Who is going to take care of them now?”
The deceased’s step mother, Mrs Omotayo, while speaking also stated that eye witnesses at the scene of the incident all stated that Samuel had no issue with the hoodlums.

The woman, who claimed she was at home when the incident happened, said that “before I got to the scene, Samuel had been rushed to the hospital, and the assailants had also fled the area. Some residents and I rushed to the General Hospital at Ile-Epo, where he later died as a result of excessive blood loss.

“I want the Lagos State Police Command to fish out Samuel’s killers; we want justice. Samuel must not die in vain. He was an easy going person in the community, and I don’t know why they chose to kill him?

A resident of the area who simply identified himself as Fusnho, narrated that “the boys, about ten of them, were shouting and asking that a landlord who sold his house should settle them; they were just harassing residents of the community with their behaviour.

“Samuel was unfortunate to be coming at this particular time, he did not know what was happening, but they felt he did not accord them due respect because he didn’t run; all of them then pounced on him.

“After they pushed him inside a gutter by the side of the road, they stabbed him on different parts of the body, including the neck, before they left the scene.
“Nobody could stop them; even when they were beating him, everybody kept a distance.

Crime Reports gathered that it was when the hoodlums had escaped from the scene that some residents rushed to where Samuel was lying, “he had lost so much blood before sympathisers rushed him to the hospital.”

Funsho, while speaking on the activities of the hoodlums in the area, said “they are called Omo onile, but in actual fact, they are area boys.

“These criminals are making life miserable for the people of the area.

“Till now, people are stiil afraid to open their shops. Many are scared that these criminals might come back to continue from where they stopped; the police and the Lagos State government should save us, ” Funsho said.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Joe Offor, confirmed the death of the deceased, while saying one of the suspected killers had been arrested.

CrimeSARS Arrests Two For Stealing N19.5m Goods (pictured) by Islie(op): 7:50am On Nov 24, 2015
Men of the Special A n t i – Ro b b e r y Squad (SARS) attached to Zone 2, Lagos have arrested two suspects who specialised in the diversion of stolen goods from Apapa Sea Port.

The suspects, identified as Benson Odefila and Amechi Enemmuou, were arrested after buying a musical equipment loaded in a 40-feet container, valued at N19.5 million for just N600,000.

It was gathered that the truck driver was contracted by the owner of the container to transport the goods to his warehouse after it was cleared at the port, but he diverted and sold the goods for N600,000 to the suspects.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Bala Hassan, who paraded the suspects before journalists, said the police got a distress call that some hoodlums had diverted a container with goods worth N19.5 million to an unknown destination within Lagos State.

“I directed the officer in charge of SARS, Peter Gana, to trail and apprehend the suspects. Through surveillance and information gathering, one of the suspects, Benson Odefila, was arrested at Ajangbadi area of the state.

During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and mentioned one Amas and two other members of his gang while another suspect identified as Amechi Enemmuou the receiver of the goods was arrested,” Hassan said.

The AIG said Enemmuou led operatives to recover all the goods. Enemmuou admitted committing the crime but blamed greed for his involvement. He said: “The price at which the goods were sold to me was difficult to resist. I am a trader and I deal on motorcycle parts at Oyingbo Market.

It was Odefila that brought the business to me. I didn’t know him before then. “It was one of my customers that introduced the suspects to me. He told me that the goods were stolen from the sea port and that they were ready to sell it at a giveaway price.

I asked how much and he said just N2 million. After seeing the goods in the container, I told him all I could afford was N600,000 and they agreed.

I gave the money to Odefila and I took possession of the goods, but a few days later, he brought policemen to my house and I was arrested. I regret finding myself in this mess.” Hassan said the suspects would soon be charged to court after completion of investigation.

A clash, which reportedly ensued on Sunday between two fraternities, the ‘Eye’ and ‘Aiye’ in Ajosegbemi, in Somolu Local Government Area of Lagos State leaving three people dead, has affected the peace in the community as most residents are allegedly in intense fear leading to their staying indoors from 9 pm, The Punch reports.

It was learnt that the deceased persons were battered to death on Awoseyin, Odunlade and Agunbiade streets inward Onipanu bus stop when members of Aiye fraternity had gone on a rampage to avenge the death of a member’s brother, one Azeez Akinwumi, a tennis player, who was killed by some Eye cult members.

A resident, who identified himself simply as Dipo, said he saw two lifeless bodies in a pool of blood on his way home from Onipanu.

“I was at Onipanu with a friend when I observed there was confusion on Agunbiade Street. I took an alternative route to Anifowoshe Street where I live. On my way home, I noticed that everywhere was deserted. There was a corpse on Awoseyin Street and I saw another one just before Odunlade Street. I learnt that it was a clash between Eye and Aiye cult members.

“According to what we heard, it was the death of Azeez who was a brother of an Aiye member that caused the confusion. We have been living in fear and we can’t stay outside beyond 9 pm again,” Dipo added.

One Afolabi Peju, a resident of Agunbiade Street, said, “I was attending to a customer around 1.30 pm on that day when I saw some youths chasing a guy. I rushed into my shop and locked myself in. They eventually caught the guy and slit his throat. It was policemen that later came to pick his corpse. I learnt the guy was not a resident.”

Peju also noted that it took a combined team of policemen from Alade, Pedro and Onipanu divisions to stop the violence.
Reports further revealed that some traders in the community lost their goods while running for safety.

Speaking on the incident, the Chairman, Ajosegbemi Community Development Association, Mr. Tunji Awokoya, said some of the miscreants worked for politicians and that people were afraid to identify them for fear of being hunted.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, confirmed the attack. While affirming that several others were injured, he disclosed that the fight was between Eye and Aiye groups.

“Deaths were recorded but we cannot ascertain the number for now.
“People that were injured have been taken to hospitals and some arrests have been made.

“However, investigation is in progress,” Offor noted.

After all he told me about all that had been transpiring between my wife and himself, he expected me to divorce my wife but I did not do so. He would have thought that so many things were hidden and that if I should continue to live with my wife, she would tell me all and he would not be safe any more.”

Crime‘how Soldiers Brutalised Two Brothers In Lagos (pictured) by Islie(op): 7:09am On Nov 22, 2015
SOME men of the Nigerian Army may well need more reorientation on the reality that the country is in a democracy and that brutalisation of civilians is out of fashion.

This was the submission of Lasisi Sherifdeen and Ayorinde Adewale, two men who were allegedly brutalised on Friday evening by three soldiers close to Total Filling Station, Mushin, Lagos. According to the duo, they were taken to the barracks at the Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Oshodi and forced to pay for repairs of a vehicle they said they were not guilty of damaging.

Sherifdeen said, “We were in a little traffic along Mushin Road, close to the Total Filling Station and Road Safety office; suddenly their bus was trying to manoeuvre through, creating a third lane in the process on the two-lane road, and brushing our car, a Sienna, as they made to get into our front. But rather than apologise, they came down in a commando-like fashion and started accusing us of brushing and damaging their bus.

“Surprised, my brother, Ayorinde Adewale, who drove the car, said ‘But you are the ones who brushed our car, this is a democracy, you should be apologising to us.’ This apparently infuriated them and they immediately dealt him blows. They also dealt me blows and tried to force my door on the passenger’s side open. Seeing that the door was locked, they moved over, opened the driver’s door and continued beating, dragging my brother out and stomping on him.”

Seeing that it was getting out of hand, we started pleading with them to let us go, but rather than soften down, they intensified the beating. I approached the one who looked the most senior and an officer, his name tag read: M. Bukar. He wore a rank with an eagle and a star, I think he’s a colonel; but he ignored me and they continued the beating, tearing my clothes in the process; you can see that I’m virtually in rags. Look at my brother’s face, it is full of bruises.

They also bundled my brother into the bus and ordered me to drive along to the barracks. As I made to drive the car, the door of my car, which they had forced open, brushed their bus. This further infuriated them and they intensified the beating. This time, they bundled me into the bus as well, while one of them drove my car. They totally ignored the crowd that had now gathered and was pleading with them to let us go.”

He added, “Inside their barrack at Oshodi, they ordered us to start rolling on the bare floor, while one of them went to get their panel-beater and painter. Thereafter, we were charged N13,000 for the replacement of one of their bus lights and for the damage on the panel. We told them we didn’t have enough cash but they told us to use our ATM cards or be locked up in the barrack until we could pay. So we went to an ATM at a First Bank branch in the barrack, where we withdrew the money and paid. It was only after that that we were allowed to go.”

Sherifdeen, who resides in Shasha, Akowonjo said the soldiers conduct was most unbefitting of proper training and sense of responsibility. He wondered why they should be treated like that in their country and hope that the Nigerian Army authorities would look into the matter.

When The Nation contacted the Army spokesperson attached to the barrack, Lt. Commander Patricia Onyekwere Friday evening, she claimed she was not aware of the incident but promised to get back to our correspondent after due consultation. She was yet to get back as at press time, Saturday evening, and was no longer picking or returning calls to phone.

CrimeMan Hangs Self After Raping Brother’s Wife by Islie(op): 10:57am On Nov 21, 2015
A 21-year-old man has allegedly hanged himself after he was accused of raping his brother’s wife.

The incident was said to have happened at Olorire area of Obantoko in Abeokuta, Ogun State in the evening of October 27, 2015.

Impeccable sources said the deceased, Austin John, had offered his brother’s wife, Cecelia Emanuel, a ride on his motorbike only to veer off into a bush and raped her.

A family source said: “The woman (Cecelia) was leaving home for a vigil in her church when John offered to take her there on his motorcycle.

“Instead, he veered into a bush on the excuse that his motorcycle had developed a fault and forcibly raped the woman.

“The woman raised the alarm which attracted bystanders and the late John was apprehended.

“He was subsequently handed over to the local vigilance group and later released to one of his brothers named Mathew and family members, who promised to make him available the next day for appropriate disciplinary action.”

It was gathered that John’s kinsmen secured his release from the custody of the vigilance group in order to send him back to their hometown where traditional rites were to be carried out to atone for the abomination he committed.

It was learnt that John used a generator cable to hang himself in the early hours of the fateful day.

His mangled body was said to have been discovered by herdsmen.

The incident, however, took a dramatic turn when some members of the vigilance group were allegedly arrested by the police and detained for days at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta.

CrimePolice Nabs Vigilante Members Over Attempted Ritual (pictured) by Islie(op): 1:48pm On Nov 20, 2015
Anambra state police command has apprehended two members of vigilance group, who allegedly attempted to murder four persons for alleged ritual purposes at Otuocha in Anambra East local government area.

The victims were cut with machete by the nine member gang who kidnapped them in their farm at Igbariam in Anambra East council area.

Reacting to the development, Anambra state police commissioner, Hosea Karma, who confirmed the incident, maintained that anybody pretending to be vigilante operative without the approval of the traditional ruler and the president general of that community under the supervision of the divisional police officer would be seen as illegal and treated like a criminal.

Karma, therefore charged the residents of Anambra state to report cases of attacks to the nearest police station for quick response, adding that the incident took place on November 3 , 2015.

Furthermore, he warned against the use of human blood for sacrifice, while assuring that anyone found committing such a crime would be made to face the full weight of the law.

The Nation gathered Friday that the aim of the nine man gang was to use the four victims for ritual purposes at Nengo Akpaukwu Ifite Nteje shrine before the police stormed the place.

According to one of the victims Mr. Paul Obiefuna from Igbariam, “I was working in my farm with my two sons and two other labourers, when the armed gang rounded us up.

“They bounded us and took us to the shrine where they humiliated us and ready to kill us before the police swooped on them because one of my sons escaped from them to a hidden place where he contacted the police.

“Those people came with various kinds of weapons including guns, machete and sticks, but we thank God for using one of my sons to save the others,” Obiefuna said.
Before they were rescued by the police, the victims had been inflicted with various degrees of injuries, while the hoodlums stripped them of all their belongings including cash, phones, clothes and others.

Another victim, Chinedu Obiefuna, alleged that they were forced to swear never to reveal what happened to them or die by the suspects.

The traditional ruler of Igbariam, Igwe Nkeliuwa Nkeli, said he got the information from one of the victims who escaped, while calling the relevant authorities to unravel the mystery behind the attack with a view to bringing the culprits to book.
