PoliticsBoko Haram Terrorists Ambush Nigerian Troops In Bama-ngurosoye (photo) by Islie(op): 10:37pm On Dec 11, 2015
Some soldiers conveying foodstuffs to troops were ambushed along Bama-Ngurosoye by suspected Boko Haram elements yesterday Thursday. A search and rescue team that was sent to Bokos general area has recovered corpses of a soldier and a civilian JTF, as well 6 burnt AK-47 rifles.

The team has also intensified search for a missing soldier. The Explosive Ordinance Device element on the team have discovered and detonated an Improvised Explosive Device buried along the road. They have also found out and destroyed Boko Haram terrorists hideout in the area.

It will be recalled that Ngurosoye has been cleared of terrorists months ago, but some elements of Boko Haram terrorists that were thought to be innocent civilians, sneaked into that and sprang an ambush on troops escorting supplies to our force at the front lines yesterday.

Despite the unfortunate incident, troops morale remain very high and they have continued with their patriotic duties of searching for and destroying the Boko Haram terrorists in their enclaves.
Thank you for your usual and kind cooperation.

Cyriacus Izuekwe

A 29-year-old jilted woman, Adaeze Eboh, has dragged her estranged lover, Kalu Samuel, before Isolo Magistrates’ court after he allegedly duped and jilted her for another woman.

Samuel who lives at 46, Akinbaye street, Isolo met Adaeze Eboh who resides at 17, Ashiri Abo street also in Isolo and promised to marry her last year.

According to police, sometime in July 2015, Samuel approached Eboh and requested money from her to set up his phone business.

Barely five months after he collected N147,00 from her, he told her that he was no longer intrested in the relationship.
An embittered Eboh asked him to return the money she gave him when the going was good and he refused.

In the process, Samuel reportedly assaulted her and chased her away.

Eboh went to Aswani Police Station and reported that Samuel obtained the money from her under false pretence, jilted and assaulted her.

He was arrested and at the station, Eboh insisted that since he had reneged on his promise to marry her, he should give her back her money.

Samuel refused to refund the money because, according to him, during the period the relationship lasted, he too spent his money on her.

He said it was not his decision not to marry her but rather his family’s wish and that he cannot marry her against their tradition in Ohafia in Abia State.

Samuel was charged with obtaining under false pretence that he would marry her and assault under the Criminal Code.
He pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Joy Ugbomoiko granted him bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail.

The matter has been adjourned till January 2016.

Mothers of two minors could not control their tears in Mushin area of Lagos State yesterday when a four -year-old girl pushed a needle into the right eye of her 5-year- old friend.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the two friends were playing in their compound along Agege Motor Road when Nimota Adebowale innocently pushed a needle into the right eye of her, friend, Fausatu Majekodunmi.
The victim was said to have wept profusely as blood gushed out from her eyes.

Nimota’s mother was said to have rushed Fausatu to a nearby hospital where doctors battled in vain to cure the child but at the end she could not see with the eye.
The Adebowales and the Majekodunmis were said to be very close family friends.

One of their neighbours, Risikatu Oluwashola disclosed that the children were playing but nobody saw any of them with the needle. She said it was when they heard Fausatu screaming that they rushed to know what was happening.

Oluwashola said as Fausatu was screaming, Nimota was also shedding tears. She said Nimota’s mother quickly rushed the victim to a nearby private hospital but they were referred to another hospital.

She said when Fausatu’s parents came back from work, they considered the friendship that existed among them and the action Nimota’s mother took by rushing their daughter to the hospital.

They decided that the two children have been friends and that Nimota committed the act innocen tly. But Fausatu’s mother cried for a very along time because of the pains her daughter was going through.

CrimeNURTW Member Killed While Leaving Mosque (pictured) by Islie(op): 7:46am On Dec 09, 2015
Homicides detectives attached to the Lagos State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, are presently trying to fish out the suspect who stabbed a man to death as he was leaving a mosque at Abule- Egba. The deceased, Taye Ogunlaja, was said to have gone for his afternoon prayer and was leaving the mosque when someone came from behind and stabbed him in the neck.

Ogunlaja was already planning to travel to France with his wives and kids when he was killed. He had only secured the visas for his kids and two wives. The deceased was a member of the National Union of Road Transport Worker (NURTW), Marina branch.
Ogunlaja was killed on December 3, at Abule-Egba area, where he had gone to attend a meeting. The meeting was aimed at settling the crisis in the union. Trouble started a few weeks ago after the union on the Lagos Island was polarised.

The bereaved wife recounted how her husband was killed. She said:
“Thursday last week, my husband received a phone call from one of the union members. He called him to remind him of their monthly meeting at the state Secretariat. My husband immediately dressed and left. About 1pm, I called him to know if he was at the venue of the meeting. “He said he was already there.

He said he didn’t understand the kind of pranks some of the members were playing. He said they were asking him to give account of money he did not know about. He said he would soon leave the meeting to go to the mosque for prayer.” Mrs. Ogunlaja said that about 6pm, she called her husband again. She was shocked to hear screaming that he had been stabbed on the neck from behind. “He told me that he was stabbed while returning from the mosque. I never knew he was in the hospital when he was speaking with me.”

The widow said that as soon as she dropped the call, she alerted his family members. They all went to the hospital at Abule-Egba. They were told at the hospital that Ogunlaja had been transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja. “I was later told my husband died before they got to LASUTH.

I’m begging the police to ensure my husband’s killers are fished out and brought to book.” When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Joe Offor, promised to get back to our correspondent. He, however, did not call at press time.

Christianity EtcChurch Members Scramble For Holy Condom Blessed By Pastor In Kenya (photo) by Islie(op): 7:02pm On Dec 07, 2015
A man of God in Kenya has ruffled a few feathers by blessing condoms for his church members.

A man of God in Kenya, Pastor Paul Sanyangore , has caused another stir in that country after he blessed condoms for his church members during a service, reports Nehanda Radio.

According to the reports, there was almost a stampede as church members , both married and singles, rushed to get the anointed condoms from the Pastor who is regarded as one of the most controversial in the East African country.

Justifying his actions, Pastor Sanyangore was said to have told reporters that a woman brought the condoms for him to anoint so she could use with her husband who had abandoned her for two years and only went back to her few days earlier.

“I prophesied to a certain woman that her husband would return two years after his mysterious disappearance. I am not sure but during the week, the husband called her telling her he would come back home.

She came to church and during prayer time, she took the condoms out and handed them to my assistant asking if they were okay to use when her husband returns.

I saw nothing wrong in her using them with her husband after two years of absence. Who knows what he was doing there so it is better to be safe.

When I prayed for the condoms, some women came out and wanted to have them.”

Surely the end of time is at hand.

Crime79 Fresh Graves Discovered At Ebonyi Shrine by Islie(op): 10:15am On Dec 07, 2015
More than 79 fresh shallow graves have been discovered at Ezillo community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The discovery followed the killing of a 29-year-old man from Ezzaegu, Chigozie Okeagu, by some warlords in the warring Ezillo community.

Though police have arrested four persons in connection with the killing, it was alleged that the warlords ambushed Okeagu and his younger brother when they were returning to their village and killed him while the brother escaped.

Okeagu, a trader was returning from a ceremony at Ezzamgbo in Ohaukwu Local Government Area and ran out of fuel. He stopped to buy fuel at Ezillo when the warlords swooped on them but his brother, Okechukwu Eke, escaped into the bush where he passed the night.Eke has been admitted at an undisclosed hospital where he is receiving treatment from trauma he suffered during the incident.

It was learnt that Okeagu was slaughtered in a shrine where his dismembered body was reportedly exhumed from a shallow grave where over 79 fresh graves were also found. The traditional ruler of the Ezzagu community, Igwe Innocent Nworie, during a peace talk over the incident, regretted that despite the peaceful disposition of his people, they were still being slaughtered by militants.

The monarch expressed fear that with the Yuletide fast approaching and with the only bridge that leads to the community already collapsed leaving the community with no other alternative than to follow Ezillo, their lives are in danger. He said: “It is obvious that the Ezillo militants are on the prowl especially as Christmas is fast approaching. ‘’They probably have seen that the only bridge that links our community from Agba has collapsed, leaving us with no other option than to follow Ezillo. “I am calling on the state

Crime4 Robbers Arrested By RRS In Lagos (pictured) by Islie(op): 7:38am On Dec 07, 2015
Olaleye Aluko

A 20-year-old robbery suspect, Lanre Makinde, who was arrested by the police in Lagos, said he became a robber to raise money for his graduation.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Makinde and three other accomplices ─ Sodiq Hassan, Sunday Oyeniran and Ahmed Kazeem ─ were arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad on Saturday while they were allegedly dispossessing their victims of mobile phones and wallets during gridlock.

Our correspondent gathered that the suspects and other fleeing gang members stole two mobile phones and two wallets from their victims before they were apprehended by the police.

In his statement to the police, Makinde said he was on drugs when the incident happened. He added that he needed money to pay for his graduation in an undisclosed institution, and to make ends meet.

He said, “I was not conscious of what I was doing. I knew the gang leaders as friends in the area, and agreed to go out with them. I was drunk on that evening. I actually needed money to pay for my graduation and to make ends meet.”

Makinde added that he was involved in “only one operation” with the gang.
Also, Oyeniran said his role was only to keep the items stolen during the operation. He said he recently left the prison on November 14, 2015.

He said, “I am an ex-convict. I was not the leader of the gang. Since I was released from the prison on November 14, I ensured that I severed my relationship with the gang. The gang leaders are Eegun and Yoppy. I know them as traffic robbers in Oshodi. I was only seen with the mobile phones stolen by the gang. I did not go to rob with them.”

Another suspect, Hassan, who claimed to be a school dropout, said he was working as a bus conductor before joining the gang.
He said, “I learnt generator repairing in Ibadan, Oyo State, and I travelled to Lagos to raise some money to set up my workshop. I was sleeping under the Oshodi Bridge. I was with the gang when they stole the phones. It was stolen by one man, Awuwa . He is one of those who fled from the police.”

One of the people dispossessed by the gang, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he was descending the pedestrian bridge when one of the robbers snatched his mobile phone.

The victim, a software analyst in the Ikeja area, added that the police had returned the recovered phone to him.

Another victim, identified only as Rasheedat, said she had alighted from her husband’s car to open the back door for a passenger, when the suspects took the phones and ipads placed on the front seat.
A police source added that the suspects would be charged to court on Monday (today).

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, could not be reached for comment, as his line indicated that it was switched off as of press time.

He made the revelation at the Isolo Magistrates’ court on Thursday where he was arraigned for criminal offence.
He pleaded guilty to the three-count criminal charge brought against him by the police.

Rivers State-born Godspower was arrested at a super market at Domino Plaza on Osolo Way after he broke the inner entrance door glass to steal in the super market.

HealthTeacher Makes Girl Sit On Hot Water Container In Lagos, Girl Dies (Graphic Pic) by Islie(op): 8:41am On Dec 04, 2015
Olaleye Aluko

A three-year-old girl, Haliya Abolore, has died in the Gbagada area of Lagos State after she was allegedly made to sit on a hot water container by her class teacher, identified only as Maryam.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Haliya, who attended a private school on Idoluwo Street, Dosunmu, Lagos Island, was allegedly made to sit on the container on Wednesday, October 21.

It was learnt that Haliya, who suffered burns in her buttocks and private parts, was thereafter rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital for treatment.
It was gathered that the matter was reported at the Adeniji Adele Police Division, while Maryam was arrested.

The school proprietress, Mrs. Bose Shomoade, was also said to have been invited for questioning by the police, and made to pay parts of the treatment expenses.

Our correspondent gathered that Haliya, after two weeks, was moved to the Gbagada General Hospital, for further treatment. The girl, however, died on Tuesday.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, Haliya’s father, Abolore, said he took the incident as a mistake on the part of the teacher, who knew the container had hot water, and made his daughter to sit on it.

He added that the school brought an undisclosed sum of money for the girl’s treatment before she eventually died.
He said, “She was first taken to the Lagos Island General Hospital. Later, she was taken to the Gbagada General Hospital. We have spent about N300,000 on her treatment. The proprietress gave us N5,000 on the day of the incident. One week later, she visited the girl. She gave some money to my wife’s mother.

“The school teacher has been arrested and detained after the matter was reported at the Adeniji Adele division. The teacher was careless. He knew the container was used to keep hot water and she still sat her on it. All my daughter’s private parts were burnt. She was asked to sit on a container containing hot water.

“My wife is distraught. She has been taken to our family house in Kwara State. Haliya is our jewel. We are so sad to lose her.”
The Coordinator, Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, Mrs. Lola Vivour Adeniyi, said they had written to the state Ministry of Education to investigate the school.

She said, “It is sad. The abuse of the three-year-old occurred when she suffered horrific burns. She was made to sit on a container of hot water in her school. We have just been informed that she died on Tuesday.

“Apparently, she stopped responding to treatment and the pain was too severe. We have also informed the Ministry of Education about the incident.”

A doctor in the hospital, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “The girl died due to complications from the burns.”

When PUNCH Metro contacted the school proprietress for comments, her line did not connect as of time of this report.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, confirmed the incident.

He said, “The teacher was arrested and the matter was transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation for further investigation. The operatives at the SDCI thereafter charged the suspect to court.”

TravelTipper Driver Disappears From Accident Scene In Abuja (photo) by Islie(op): 4:50pm On Dec 03, 2015
Residents of Dutse Bukuma, Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory are currently reeling in a state of disbelief following the alleged disappearance of a tipper driver from the scene of an accident.

DAILY POST gathered that a tipper loaded with sand and with registration number Abuja RBC 339XB was coming from Bwari axis, heading towards Dutsi Alhaji, when its engine suddenly fell off the hood, around tipper garage close to Dutse Bukuma.

The tipper consequently failed break and the driver lost control and rammed into a barricade before it finally somersaulted.

It was learnt that residents who rushed to the scene of the accident found a mechanic identified as Tunde Bello trapped inside the tipper but the driver was nowhere to be found as he was alleged to have disappeared at the instance of the accident.
The incident which happened last Friday at about 7.45pm caused a major gridlock around the Bwari expressway, leaving motorists stranded for hours.

Speaking with DAILY POST correspondent, Bello said prior to the accident, he had worked on the tipper and they were going for a test drive when the incident happened.
He further added that at the instance of the accident, the driver disappeared.

Bello said, “I had earlier worked on the engine of the tipper which was carrying sand in my shop. when I finished, I accompanied the driver, around Dutse Bokoma, the tipper suddenly failed break and ran into the side walk before somersaulting.

“It was later we realised that the engine of the tipper had pulled off from the hood but what really surprised me was the fact that somebody I was sitting next to, the moment the accident happened could not be seen.”
“People who rushed to help thought I was the driver but when I started asking after the driver everybody became surprised. They looked everywhere but he could not be found.”

Bello further added, “I do watch this thing in movies but today I witnessed it myself, this life is a mystery.”

However police officers from the Bwari Police Station were seen at the scene of the accident trying to clear and direct traffic in the area.

An officer simply identified as Ojonemi who spoke with DAILY POST said, “It is still a mystery to me. immediately the accident happened, we all rushed to the scene to see if I could rescue the occupant of the tipper but funny enough, the driver of the tipper was nowhere to be found. It is believed that he disappeared. That’s what most of them do.”

The suspect, Earnest Young, 30, who co incidentally is the son of a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, was arrested with his accomplice, Rasheed Tiamiyu, 20, on Eko Bridge around 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad yesterday, reportedly arrested a dismissed police officer and another person who serves as an accomplice, for vandalizing and stealing man - hole cover.

The suspect, Earnest Young , 30, who co incidentally is the son of a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, was arrested with his accomplice, Rasheed Tiamiyu, 20, on Eko Bridge around 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Young reportedly hails from Yala Local Government in Cross Rivers and was arrested for being in possession of man – hole covers , vandalized and stolen on the Eko Bridge.

Young revealed in his statement that, he and his accomplice trekked from Ijora Under Bridge to Eko Bridge to steal the man hole covers, adding that they were in search of food when they saw the man – hole cover, which they planned to sell to cart pushers.

"He insisted we steal the cover, even when I protested that we leave it and that was why the cover was found in his hand. The entire plan was all his idea".

Tiamiyu maintained that "despite the fact that cover was very heavy, Young insisted in stealing it with the plan to resell it to scrap metal buyers the following day".

"Both of us work as load carriers in Ijora. We sleep in Ijora park. We had no money to feed ourselves and he requested that go to a party in Isale Eko, and that on our way we would pick up the man – hole cover to sell to cart pushers" Tiamiyu added.

CrimeGirlfriend Flees As Boyfriend Dies In Lagos Hotel by Islie(op): 1:15pm On Dec 02, 2015
Samson Folarin

There has been anxiety at the Jonaith Hotel and Suites in the Ajah area of Lagos State after a 24-year-old guest, identified as Michael Afeso, was found dead in his room.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the deceased’s girlfriend, who had stayed with him on Friday evening, was sighted in the early hours of Saturday.

She was, however, said to have fled the hotel before the arrival of policemen from the Ajah division, who later took the corpse to a mortuary.

Our correspondent gathered that Michael, an indigene of Akoko Edo, Edo State, had checked into a room in the hotel on Friday and had enjoyed some bottles of beer with a friend, identified as Abass It was learnt that Abass left the deceased in the company with a lady, whom the latter had sent for.

The corpse of the victim was said to have been discovered by one of the hotel workers, who had gone to his room at checkout.

PUNCH Metro learnt from a relative of the deceased, Olufemi Oladejo, that the family was notified by one of Michael’s friends.
Oladejo said, “When we got there, the management of the hotel told us they found the girl in their CCTV tip-toeing out.

“When we challenged them on why they did not stop her since they both checked in together, they changed the story and said the video was of another room and that it had nothing to do with the case.

“The hotel management said one Abass, who was their customer, reserved the room for Michael. We were told that they both took some bottles of beer before Abass left.

They said Michael was alone in his room before they saw his corpse.”
The vi c t im’s father, Abraham, explained that he was expecting his son to send him some money for upkeep and a project, when he was told he had died.

He said, “My other children who had been aware of the incident could not break the news to me because I was sick. Instead, they informed my friend, who called me to his house and broke the sad news to me.

“The hotel management and the police have been dribbling us and telling us all kids of lies. Even our lawyer was compromised and he has stopped picking my calls. I insisted that the matter be transferred from Ajah
because I lost confidence in the police in that division.”

Our correspondent learnt that the matter was transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba.

However, the result of the autopsy indicated that the victim died of heart attack and hypertension.

Still, the family of the deceased insisted that the case had been tampered with and urged the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, to conduct investigation into the matter.

The hotel lawyer, Akran Akra, in a telephone interview with PUNCH Metro, denied that the hotel covered up anything.

He said, “There was no time that the hotel changed any story. We gave the police and the deceased’s family unlimited access to our IT rooms on several occasions. “The girl and the man did not go in together. She came in later as a visitor.

“The fact of the case is that Michael checked into the hotel on the night of Friday, October 23, 2015. The room
he checked into had earlier been reserved for him by one of his friends, who checked in earlier the same day.

“His friends, who were with him that night, confirmed that on arrival at the hotel, the deceased joined them at the pool bar where they all had drinks together before retiring to his hotel room to

meet his girlfriend, who he was expecting.
“At about 12.15pm the next day, one of the hotel’s housekeepers, who was carrying out a routine cleanup at checkout found the lifeless body of Michael on the bed.”

He said the hotel management immediately alerted the police.

“There was no complicity on the part of the hotel. The food that was served by the chef was not eaten by the deceased. The CCTV footage did not indicate a foul play,” he added.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Joe Offor, when contacted, promised to get back to our correspondent, but he had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report

CrimeWife Of Detainee Loses Pregnancy After Torture By Police (Pictured) by Islie(op):
Housewife loses pregnancy after DPO’s assault

A 37-year-old woman, Mrs Risikat Bamidele, has lost her pregnancy after a Divisional Police Officer in charge of Kemta Idi-Aba Police Headquarters in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, allegedly brutalised her. The DPO, identified as CSP Samuel, was said to have assaulted the woman on Saturday night for “daring to make a phone call” in his presence.

The incident occurred barely two weeks after the Inspector- General of Police, Solomon Arase, warned officers and men of the state police command against unprovoked assault on innocent civilians. Speaking with our correspondent on her hospital bed at the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, Mrs Bamidele said she lost her nine-week-old pregnancy owing to the torture received from the DPO.

The victim, who is a non teaching staff member of Catholic Comprehensive High School at Onikolobo, Abeokuta, disclosed that she was at the police station in respect of a matter involving her husband, Tunde Bamidele. Writhing in pain, Bamidele explained that she wanted to put a call across to her brother- in-law when the police chief descended on her with repeated slaps and jabs. According to her, the DPO later ordered her detention which was effected by a junior police officer.

She said: “When I got to the police station, my husband gave me his phone that I should call his brother. When I was calling, I just saw one man; I never knew he is the DPO. He said ‘you are very stupid, you are phoning after 8 (pm). You don’t know we don’t phone here after 8 (pm)?’ “I apologised that I wasn’t aware I shouldn’t call even when other officers were there and they didn’t stop me.

“He forcibly took my phone and called a police officer to arrest me. They harassed me and pushed me and my husband had to rush out shouting ‘she is pregnant, don’t push her.’ That was when the man started slapping and shouting at me.” Bamidele added that she suffered serious stomach pains all through the night following the assault.

She said the police officers on duty could not come to her aid but her husband gave her some money to buy sanitary pad to stop the blood flow from her private part. The victim added that on Monday she was rushed to the hospital where doctors confirmed that her nine weeks’ old pregnancy had been aborted. Also, the husband said he was detained at the police station for daring to request for some money owed him by a building contractor.

Bamidele claimed that the contractor, whose name he simply gave as Bolaji, owed him and other colleagues N894,000 for the past 19 months He said: “Bolaji and I were taken to the station where we were both detained initially. Before we were detained, the DPO said we should write statements but I said I wasn’t ready to write any statement.

“When it was 7pm, my wife called me because I am a diabetic and an ulcer patient and she had to come to the station. When she came, I gave her my phone to call my brother and what I heard from inside was ‘bastard, go inside’, and she was detained. My clothes were removed, and they poured water on me and gave an instruction that I should be smoked with tear gas.”

Bamidele also accused the DPO of collecting N20,000 before releasing him and his wife on bail. When contacted yesterday, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the matter had yet to be brought to the attention of the Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali.

Adejobi, however, said the affected couple should write a letter of complaint to the police commissioner. He promised that they would get justice. The PPRO said the command would not condone any act of brutality against innocent civilians.

CrimeMy Husband Raped My Cousin In Our Matrimonial Home, Wife Tells Court by Islie(op): 12:52pm On Dec 01, 2015
A 31-year-old -trader, Oluwaseyi Ajofoyibo, on Tuesday at the Igando Customary Court , Lagos state, accused her husband, Kamoru Ajofoyibo,33, of allegedly raping her cousin in their matrimonial home.

Oluwaseyi also told the court that her husband was in the habit of beating and blackmailing her at the slightest provocation.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oluwaseyi with her two children, ages seven and two, had since moved out of her matrimonial home to Badagry.

“My cousin came to my matrimonial home, asking me to help her appeal to her mother over a misunderstanding; I left the house for a night.

“When I returned, my cousin told my neighbours that my husband tried to rape her in our matrimonial home.

“When she was probed further, she confessed that he succeeded in raping her.

“As a result of his action, I told him I was going to visit my parents in Badagry, but I packed my belongings and left with my sons.

“I rebuffed several attempts by our families for me to return to my matrimonial home.

“He then came and forcefully took away one of our sons. I want my son back, that’s why I brought him to the court. We were not legally married. He refused to pay my dowry,” Oluwaseyi said.

Her husband, Kamoru, who resides at Osunba Street, Igando, a suburb of Lagos, did not deny raping his wife’s cousin nor forcefully taking the couple’s seven years’ old son.

“We were not having any misunderstanding. She said she wanted to visit her family in Badagry and I gave her N30,000.

“She said she would spend two weeks, but two weeks turned to months, and months turned into years.

“Our families called a meeting, she refused to talk, and she was not moved with the tears from her mother’s eyes.

“ I relocated my son to my brother’s place in Badagry because I needed to be seeing him regualrly.

“I know I have made some mistakes and I’m sorry,’’ the 33 year-old-trader said.

The President of the court, Mr A. L. Omilola, in his ruling, told the couple to come for the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) on Dec. 16.

Omilola adjourned the case till Jan. 16 for further hearing. (NAN)

CrimeMan Stabs Landlord To Death In Lagos (pictured) by Islie(op): 7:25am On Nov 30, 2015
Olaleye Aluko

Some hoodlums started a street fight on Olorogun Street, Odo Eran, in the Itire area of Lagos State on Tuesday, during which a 21-year-old stabbed a landlord, identified as Alawu Lateef, to death.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Lateef, who was a father of three, had intervened in the fight, and asked the hoodlums to leave the area, when one of them, identified as Lati Elepo , stabbed the landlord.

It was gathered that the father of three slumped, while residents arrested Elepo before he could escape with the other hoodlums. The matter was said to have been reported at the Itire Police Division.

Our correspondent learnt that the hoodlums, numbering six boys, had come from Osindero Street to meet one Balogun, who they claimed owed them about N30,000.

It was learnt that when the hoodlums did not meet Balogun at home, they started to make trouble on the street.
The landlord, Lateef, who worked as a panel beater, was said to have asked
Elepo to leave the area with his gang members. The hoodlum, however, stabbed him in the chest.

Friends and family members rushed the landlord to a private hospital in the area, from where he was referred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, where he was confirmed dead.
His corpse was afterwards brought to the Itire division.

When PUNCH Metro visited the area, one of his neighbours, who identified himself simply as Rashidi, said Lateef did not have any business with the miscreants, but only tried to pacify them when Elepo stabbed him on the chest.

Rashidi added that Elepo and two other suspects were arrested by the police.
He said, “It was at about 11am when these boys from Osindero stormed our street. They are teenagers. They are not cultists. They said Balogun owed them N30,000 which they must collect from him.

“Lateef did not want such commotion on the street. So, he came out to caution them to take things calmly. The one who stabbed him was drunk.

“While Lateef spoke with them, the suspect went to a shop of an artisan who sharpens knives and other metals, grabbed about three knives and stabbed Lateef on the chest. Resident arrested him and dragged him to the police station while other hoodlums ran away.”

The landlord’s wife was said to be too distraught to talk with PUNCH Metro as of the time of visit.

Another neighbour, who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “Lateef was a nice man. His wife gave birth to their third child just two months ago. If Balogun was around, Lateef would not have intervened in the rampage.”

Our correspondent gathered that policemen visited the street in the evening and raided other suspected hoodlums lurking in the area.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, said he would get back to our correspondent on the incident.
He, however, had yet to get back as of press time.
