Crime › Police Arrests Suspected Armed Robbers In Akwa Ibom (Pictured) by Islie(op): 8:04am On Oct 24, 2015 |
Men of the Akwa Ibom State Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered locally-made firearms in the process.
The suspects, Ita Bassey and Kufre Eyo, were apprehended by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad following a tip-off.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Murtala Mani, stated on Friday that some of the bandits were still at large, adding that the police were on the trail of the remaining suspects.
Mani, who was represented by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Cordelia Nwawe, an assistant superintendent of police, revealed that when the two suspected armed robbers were arrested, the police went to their residences and conducted a search.
He noted that it was at that point that the locally-made firearms were found and recovered.
“On October 22, 2015, the very able SARS team of Akwa Ibom State Police Command tracked down two suspected armed robbers. They are Ita Bassey and Kufre Eyo. The police recovered locally-made guns from them.
“Some are still at large; we will not mention their names, but there is no hiding place for criminals here in Akwa Ibom State. The residences of these suspected armed robbers were searched and the firearms were found,” Mani said.
The commissioner said no individual had the right to be in possession of firearms.
He, however, urged members of the public to make necessary report on any suspected movement around them, adding that such gesture would contribute to the safety of citizens.
Speaking with one of the suspects, Bassey, a native of Ndak Etoi, Uyo Local Government Area, told journalists that he was not an armed robber, but a cultist.
He corroborated the police report by saying that a search was conducted in his residence and that the police discovered locally-made firearms.
He said, “I am a cultist. The police brought me here with one of my friends and took me to my house to search and they discovered locally-made firearms.
“I am not the owner of the guns. It was my big man, who is a cultist, that gave me the guns and that is what I told the police. I have never robbed before. My friend made me join cultism but he did not tell me that it was going to be like this.” http://www.punchng.com/city-news-feature/police-arrest-armed-robbery-suspects-in-aibom/

Crime › Man Bites Prostitute's Breast Over Pay In Ibadan by Islie(op): 9:11am On Oct 23, 2015 |
An Iyaganku Senior Magistrates' Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, sentenced a 19-year-old man, Sunday Jimoh, to six months in prison for biting a woman on the breast.
Jimoh was arraigned on a one-count charge of unlawful assault of a woman. The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Munirat Giwa-Babalola, who did not give the convict an option of fine, said Jimoh was found guilty of the offence and should serve his sentence with hard labour.
The convict was asked by the court if he understood the charge as read from the First Information Report and he answered in the affirmative.
The convict then pleaded guilty to the charge. The prosecutor, Corporal Kola Olaiya, told the court that Jimoh assaulted one woman, Meseheno Asukwo, by biting her right breast and face.
He said that the convict, of no fixed address, went to a brothel on October 21 at about 8.00 p.m. in Ekotedo, Ibadan, to patronise Meseheno.
He added that "after having sex with Meseheno, trouble ensued because Jimoh refused to pay for the service rendered and, in the process, the convict bit the complainant on the right breast and on the face."
According to the prosecutor, the offence is against the provisions of Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State 2000. http://tribuneonlineng.com/node/20360lalasticlala |

Romance › Delta Chief Impregnates 15-yr-old Granddaughter by Islie(op): 7:51pm On Oct 22, 2015 |
By Perez Brisibe UDU—A 15-year-old primary school leaver, names withheld, has pointed finger at her step grandfather, a chief and president-general of a community in Delta State for her four-month-old pregnancy. She told Niger Delta Voice that the husband of her grandmother slept with her in his two-bedroom domicile, an accusation the man hotly denied.
Handiwork of enemies— Chief The chief said the entire episode was a set-up by his adversaries, alluding that following his disagreement with close relatives of the victim over his position and sales of land in the community, they swore to unseat him by any means. He said the 15-year-old girl was living with him from birth until the incident that led to her voluntary departure from his residence.
Pregnancy hatched in Egini ! The chief asserted: “This is an orchestrated plot to dent my image. As at the time they claimed she got pregnant, she had travelled to Egini to visit her mother; I suspect that was where she took in with the plot hatched there as well. “Even her grandmother has told the community that the girl does not know who is responsible for the pregnancy, but these group of individuals, are insisting that I am responsible.” “Having taken care of this girl from her tender age all through her primary school till date where I have even made arrangement for her to get enlisted for her secondary education at Okpaka Secondary School, this is a case of my good being used against me,” he stated.
It happened in his bedroom, not Egini- Victim Narrating her experience, the victim, who debunked his claim, said, “While I was at home alone with him, he invited me into his bedroom, he asked me if I have enough clothing, I said yes. He then told me that he does not see the clothes I claim to have on me. It was at this point that he started handling with me and insisted that I sleep with him after which he would give my grandmother money to get some new clothes.”
She denied having a boyfriend, saying her step- grandfather had sexual congress with her twice. Her words, “I am not aware of my condition after the act, my grandmother interrogated me some days later with questions like who have I been having sex with. After much pressure, I told her it was her husband. “On that day, my grandmother had gone for church service, while the rest of the kids in the house had all gone to school. I was at home alone with him and when my grandmother was leaving for service, she instructed me prepare lunch before the kids return from school.”
Ikimi asks police to investigate Meanwhile, a Warri- based human rights activist, Mr. Oghenejabor Ikimi, briefed by the family, had petitioned the police, calling for investigation into the matter.
Pregnancy/DNA tests He said the chief suggested a pregnancy and DNA tests to ascertain the truthfulness and paternity of the child, but later reneged on the pretext that he had no money. According to him, “The victim is presently homeless, deprived of affectionate care by the accused in addition to the psychological trauma, pains and hardship she is undergoing.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/10/delta-chief-impregnates-15-yr-old-granddaughter/ |

Crime › Man Defrauds In-law In N9m Deal by Islie(op): 8:49am On Oct 21, 2015 |
The police have arraigned a 38-year-old man,Olumide Ogunbolude, before an Ebute-Meta ChiefMagistrate’s Court, for allegedly defrauding his in-law, Taiwo Elegbede, of N9, 105,000.
Our correspondent learnt that the money was meant for the purchase of a Range Rover.
The incident happened in the Alagbado area of Lagos State. It was gathered that the defendant’s wife was a sister of the complainant.
It was learnt that she introduced her husband to Elegbede as a dealer, when the latter needed to buy a car in 2013.
The suspect was reportedly paid an initial sum of $39,500, before being given an additional N1.6m. However, more than a year after, the suspect neither produced the car, nor returned the money.
After waiting endlessly, the complainant was said to have reported to the police in April, 2015. The suspect reportedly pleaded for more time, and when he could not meet up, he allegedly issued the complaint a dud cheque.
He was then arrested and arraigned on Tuesday by detectives from the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, on three counts of fraud, stealing and issuance of a dud cheque.
The charges read in part, “That you, Olumide Ogunbolude, sometime in October 2013, on Ogo Oluwa Street, Alagbado, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, with intent to defraud, did obtain the sum of $39,500 and the sum of N1.6m only, total of N9,105,000 from one Taiwo Elegbede under the pretext that you are in a position to assist him to purchase a Range Rover 2011 model, a representation you knew to be false.
“That you, on May 11, 2015, with intent to defraud, did issue an Enterprise Bank cheque leaflet no 19511754 for the sum of N9, 105, 000 in favour of one Taiwo Elegbede, and when presented for payment at the bank, was dishonoured for insufficient funds to the credit of the drawer of the cheque in the bank in which the cheque was drawn.”
The police prosecutor, Matthew Ibe, said the offences were punishable under sections 312, 285 and 313 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. His defence counsel, F.S. Oladele, applied for his bail in liberal terms.
The Chief Magistrate, I.O. Adelaja, admitted him to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till November 18, 2015. http://www.punchng.com/metro-plus/man-defrauds-in-law-in-n9m-deal/ |

Crime › Fraudster Who Impersonated Lagos, Ondo Deputy Governors Arrested (Pictured) by Islie(op): 3:15pm On Oct 19, 2015 |
A fraudster who clone the Facebook accounts of Lagos and Ondo deputy governors to extort money arrested.Daniel Obasi, could have deployed his ingenuity into some legal means of making money but instead, he decided to go the crooked way by cloning Facebook and e-mail accounts of prominent Nigerians including the deputy governors of Lagos and Ondo States, and this venture has become his undoing as he was arrested by detectives attached to the Ondo State Police Command.
Obasi, who was paraded by the State Commissioner of Police, Mike Ogbodu, was described as a serial hacker, and confessed to cloning Facebook accounts on behalf of very important personalities in the country, including those of Dr Oluranti Idiat Adebule, the deputy governor of Lagos State and her Ondo State counterpart, Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo and using such accounts to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
“I am from Imo State, but based in Port Harcourt. Yes, I opened separate accounts of deputy governors. I used the accounts to chat with people on the internet.
I did not hack into their accounts; I only opened new accounts on behalf of them. I used the accounts to communicate with people.
It was frustration that led me into the crime. I was doing cosmetic business before. Someone stole money from my shop and since then, I have engaged in cybercrime.
I have not been long in this business of cybercrime. I have only cloned accounts of Ondo and Lagos states deputy governors.”
The police however, debunked his story, saying that Obasi didn’t only clone accounts but also used to hack into the accounts, using special software and thousands of naira had been paid into his bank accounts through the scam before he was arrested.
He was said to have promised his victims juicy contracts on behalf of the states and urged them to pay the monies into his accounts to facilitate the award of the contracts. http://pulse.ng/gist/evil-genius-fraudster-who-impersonated-lagos-ondo-deputy-governors-arrested-id4273143.html

Crime › 71-year-old Man Rapes Runaway Pupil In Ogun (Pictured) by Islie(op): 10:25am On Oct 19, 2015 |
A 71-year-old physically-challenged man, Richard Odiwe, has been arrested for allegedly raping a primary six pupil, Bimbo (pseudonym). PUNCH Metro learnt that Bimbo, who lives with her grandmother in Ago-Alagbede in the Agbado area of Ogun State, fled home last Tuesday around 5.30am after she was told that an uncle wanted to beat her for her unruly behaviour.
Odiwe was said to have harboured the 12-year- old girl in his residence at Atila, a neighbouring community, where he committed the alleged crime.
Our correspondent was told that the septuagenarian had been living with his younger brother, who is a tenant of Bimbo’s grandmother. He was, however, sent packing in 2013 after he was suspected of sexually abusing female children in the community.
Bimbo, who spoke in Yoruba, told our correspondent that Odiwe had been having sex with her since 2013. She said he would give her money and warn her not to reveal the act to anybody. She added that they had sex twice during the two days she spent with him.
She said, “He has been having sex with me for a long time. My friends and I would go to beg him for money. He would give us N50 or N200 at times; have sex with us and warn us not to tell anybody.
“My sister told me that my uncle wanted to beat me. Out of fear, I fled home and headed for Baba’s (Odiwe’s) house. I met his daughter in the living room, mopping the floor. I went into the inner room. While the daughter was still busy with domestic chores, he had sex with me.
“When I was asleep on Tuesday night, he touched me. I woke up and told him that I was not interested, but he forced me and had sex with me again. I went out on Wednesday, and was returning to his house in the evening when my sister saw me and took me home.”
Our correspondent learnt that Odiwe was arrested by the police from the Agbado Police Division on Thursday; shortly after the incident was reported to a rights group called, CEE-HOPE – Centre for Children’s Health Education, Orientation and Protection.
Odiwe, who confessed to having sex with the girl, said he was tempted and “foolishly bought into her advances”. He said he had planned to take her back home on Wednesday, adding that he only raped her once. He, however, denied having sex with Bimbo in the past, saying it was a lie cooked up to complicate his offence.
He said, “She (Bimbo) and other children in the area would come to me, begging for money. They helped me to wash my clothes because I am incapacitated.
“On Tuesday, I saw Bimbo in my house and she said her uncle wanted to beat her. I wanted to take her back home, but she refused. On Wednesday, I told my daughter that I would take her (Bimbo) home, but she did not come back.
“To be frank because I don’t want to tell lies, she started being funny and pestering me at night. I had sex with her once. The three of us slept on the same mattress, although my daughter was fast asleep then.”
The grandmother, identified simply as Mama Sure, said she suspected Bimbo’s privates parts had been tampered with because of her incessant bedwetting.
She said, “My neighbours told me that Richard (Odiwe) usually trick children, including Bimbo, with money and rape them. When I noticed that she was bedwetting, I suspected something must be wrong with her private parts, but she did not tell me then that the man was having sex with her.”
The head of Ago-Alagbede community, Chief Sunday Oyegun, said he was the one who sent Odiwe out of the neighbourhood when complaints about the immorality, to which he subjected minors, persisted.
He said, “In 2013, parents in the community reported to me that the man was luring their children with money and having sex with them. I told his younger brother to send him away or he would be given a notice to quit.
“I thought he had stopped such acts until this incident happened.”
The Director, CEE-HOPE, Mrs. Betty Abah, condemned the spate of rape in the country. She urged the government to strictly enforce anti-rape laws. She said, “It is appalling that someone in his seventies would find a minor attractive for a sexual relationship. That shows the depravity to which our society is sinking by the day.
“It is time our government at all levels enforced anti-rape laws. It is not enough to have them on paper. They must be enforced to serve as a deterrence to others, or else these sad occurrences will continue.”
The Ogun State Police spokesperson, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed Odiwe’s arrest. “The man has been arrested, but we are still awaiting medical results so that we can properly ascertain whether the girl was raped or not. “Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has ordered that the suspect should be transferred to the State Department for Criminal Investigation,” he said. http://www.punchng.com/metro-plus/71-year-old-man-rapes-runaway-pupil-in-ogun/

Crime › Policeman Defiles 3yr-old Girl In Ebonyi by Islie(op): 10:09pm On Oct 18, 2015 |
A police corporal, Samuel Okere serving at Ugbodo Division in Ebonyi local government area of Ebonyi State has been arrested by the state Juvenile Welfare Centre (JWC) for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl.
Okere was said to have committed the act in Ugbodo at the victim’s father’s house when she returned from school.
The victim’s parents had gone for their teaching jobs when the police officer allegedly committed the act.
When the parents returned from work, the little girl started complaining of pains in her private part as she could not walk properly.
When the father, Emmanuel Iyiekuna asked the girl what happened to her, she told him that the policeman inserted something inside her.
Iyiekuna subsequently went to Okere’s house and he(Okere) allegedly admitted committing the crime but said he only used finger on the girl and did not insert his manhood.
He appealed to Iyiekuna not to disclose the matter to anyone and reportedly offered N50, 000 to take care of the victim which was rejected.
Iyiekuna later took his child to a nearby clinic where after examining the girl, a nurse told him that the girl’s hymen has been broken.
The case of defilement was reported to the state family law centre, a special court in charge of treating such cases and other issues.
At the court, the suspect denied having carnal knowledge of the girl.
The Chairman of the court, Mrs. Elizabeth Nwali petitioned the state Commissioner of Police, CP Peace Ibekwe over the matter, calling for her intervention and investigation. http://thenationonlineng.net/policeman-defiles-3yr-old-girl/l |

Crime › Nigerian Nabbed In Australia With $10m Hard Drug (Pictured) by Islie(op): 7:31pm On Oct 18, 2015 |
•Police seize 10kg of the drug ice that were hidden in gold fish statues •The drugs imported from China have a street value of $10million •Nigerian man was arrested with the drugs while boarding a bus to Sydney •He arrived in July on a student visa and will face court on MondayA Nigerian man could be jailed for life for allegedly smuggling $10million worth of ice into Australia inside a gaudy fish statue.
Sydney border force officers found 10kg of the highly addictive drug hidden inside one of three gold-coloured fish statues destined for a residential address in Kaleen, north of Canberra.
Police were alerted and arrested the 32-year-old after he picked up the statues, removed the drugs, and tried to board a bus bound for Sydney on Saturday.
The drug stash, which had been imported from China, was found on the man when he was arrested, police say.
The man, who arrived in Australia in July on a student visa, faces a maximum penalty of life in jail if he's convicted of attempting to possess a commercial quantity of an illegal drug.
The joint operation between ACT Policing and the Australian Federal police began earlier this month, following the Nigerian’s movements to two addresses before the statues were opened.
A search warrant was conducted on a property in Kaleen where similar statues and packaging were found.
Deputy Chief Police Officer Andrea Quinn credits the find to the joint operation between the law enforcement agencies.
“We continue to work closely with our partners to prevent this destructive drug reaching our streets,” Commander Quinn said.
The 32-year-old is due to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday.
In September, two Nigerians were similarly arrested in Australia for importing more than 40kg of methamphetamine into the country.
The men were identified as 51-year-old Iwuchukwu Odemegwo and Chibuike Anyasor. The duo concealed the drug inside bar fridges and Jackie Chan-branded DVD players. http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/10/18/nigerian-nabbed-in-australia-with-10m-hard-drug/http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3277794/Police-seize-massive-haul-deadly-drug-ice-hidden-ornate-Chinese-fish-statues.htmlPicture of The gold fish statue where the drug was kept and the drugs lalasticlala

Politics › Amaechi’s Letter To Saraki Lacks Merit, Says PDP by Islie(op): 1:03pm On Oct 18, 2015 |
The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP says the letter written by Mr Rotimi Amaechi, the former Governor of the State, urging the Senate President, Bukola Saraki to disregard the Rivers State Government White Paper on the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry for the investigation of his administration on the sale of valued assets and other related matters, which indicted him, (Amaechi), lacks merit and logic. The State Chairman of the PDP, Bro Felix Obuah made the assertion while reacting to the letter by Mr Amaechi to the Senate President, Saraki. According to Bro Obuah in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jerry Needam, Amaechi’s letter to the Senate President is an attempt to ignore the White Paper report, undermine the crusade against corruption and expose President Buhari’s fight against corruption as partisan and targeted at only members of the opposition and perceived enemies. “The invitation and interrogation of the Senate Minority Leader, former governor of Akwa Ibom State, and one of the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Godswill Akpabio, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, while Mr Rotimi Amaechi, indicted for corruption is freely going about lobbying to become a minister, is a pointer that Buhari’s fight against corruption is targeted at the opposition and perceived enemies”, the statement revealed.
The PDP said the monumental fraud discovered by the Judicial Commission of Inquiry and huge revenue lost when Amaechi was governor of Rivers State cannot be ignored. Amaechi has no defense to allegations of fraud against him as contained in the Government White Paper. He was invited and he failed to appear before the Judicial Commission of Inquiry. Bro Obuah drew the attention of the Senate President, Saraki to the combined provisions of Sections 66, (1) (h) and 147 (5) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, which unambiguously disqualifies Mr Rotimi Amaechi from being a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. If in doubt, the PDP counseled Mr Amaechi to seek interpretation of the relevant sections of the constitution from his lawyers. The combined effect of sections 66 (1) (h) and 147 (5) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended and read together disqualifies Rotimi Amaechi from becoming a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Therefore, Amaechi’s letter to the Senate President should be disregarded. It lacks merit and contradicted the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended. The letter to the Senate President further makes mockery of Amaechi and amounts to desperation and glorification of corruption. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/10/amaechis-letter-to-saraki-lacks-merit-says-pdp/lalasticlala |

Politics › Chibok Girls: Buhari May Offer Cash To Boko Haram by Islie(op): 7:12am On Oct 17, 2015 |
Dayo Oketola
President Muhammadu Buhari, who pledged to defeat Boko Haram by the end of 2015, said he would not rule out offering cash or prisoners swap in exchange for the Chibok schoolgirls.
The President also said he would not resign even if he fails to fulfill his promise of ending the Boko Haram insurgency in December.
This was contained in a press release sent via email by Ryan Kohls on behalf of Al Jazeera English and ‘UpFront’. Upfront, which is hosted by Mehdi Hasan, had interviewed Buhari on the activities of the group.
When Al Jazeera asked him whether he would offer money or do prisoner exchange with Boko Haram, President Buhari said, “Yes, we said it and we meant it. If we are satisfied that the girls are alive, well it depends on the negotiations of Boko Haram.”
The president said, “By the end of the year, Boko Haram will virtually be out of their main stronghold and that will be the end of it. Attacks by Boko Haram on townships and on military installations will certainly stop.”
If Boko Haram isn’t defeated by December, however, Buhari said he would not resign.
“I will be determined to stay and fight it out,” the President said.
Buhari also reiterated that his administration would be willing to negotiate with the Boko Haram insurgents if the group can give assurance that the Chibok schoolgirls abducted over a year ago are well and alive. “They (Boko Haram) have to prove to us that they are alive, they are well, and then we can…negotiate with them,” Buhari told Hasan.
Asked whether he would offer financial payments or a prisoner release to Boko Haram in return for the girls, Buhari did not rule out either option.
“Well, it depends on the negotiations with the leadership of Boko Haram,” the President said.
It has been 18 months since more than 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped by Boko Haram at Chibok in Borno State.
Buhari had, last Month, during an interaction with members of the Nigerian community in France under the auspices of Nigerians in the Diaspora Organisation, reiterated his administration’s readiness to negotiate with the terror gang.
Buhari said his administration was worried by the continued stay of the girls in the hands of their captors and was working tirelessly to get them release.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, had in July confirmed the willingness of government to negotiate with the sect if the gang was ready to engage in talks with the government.
Also in the interview with Al Jazeera English, Buhari claimed not to have seen the Amnesty International report from June 2015, “Nigeria: Stars on their shoulders: Blood on their hands,” in which the human rights group documented abuses, torture and unlawful killings by the Nigerian armed forces and urged the government to prosecute a group of officers and senior commanders.
He said, “I haven’t received that report personally. If I get those documents… I assure you that I will take action as Commander in Chief.”
In the past, Buhari has been quoted as saying he supports “the total implementation of the Sharia in the country” but he told ‘UpFront’ that “Nigerian law does not allow for” so-called Sharia punishments, such as stoning and amputation, adding that “I cannot change it. I haven’t been voted by majority of Nigerians to change Nigerian constitution.”
Asked about his record as a military dictator in the mid-1980s and the alleged rights abuses which occurred under his watch, Buhari said, “If there is any injustice that can be proved against me when I was there, I will gladly apologise.”
The President refused, however, to concede that his now notorious war against indiscipline’ in the 1980s featured any such “injustice.” http://punchng.news/2015/10/17/chibok-girls-buhari-may-offer-cash-to-boko-haram/lalasticlala |
Crime › Woman Abducts Three-year-old, Tricks Brother With N500 by Islie(op): 7:03am On Oct 17, 2015 |
Afeez Hanafi
A three-year-old nursery one pupil, Rihannat Oloruntobi, has been reportedly abducted from Bankole Street, Orile-Iganmu area of Lagos by a yet-to-be-identified woman.
Rihannat, who lived with her mother on Tokosi Street in the neighbourhood, was said to have followed her eight-year-old brother, Sultan, and other kids to play around Bankole Street at about 7pm on Tuesday.
PUNCH Metro learnt that while the kids were engrossed in the play, a woman approached them, beckoned on Rihannat and whisked her away.
Sultan was said to have initially restrained the girl from going with the woman, but later succumbed after she reportedly gave him N500, telling him that she was their mother’s friend.
Our correspondent learnt on Thursday that the whereabouts of the pupil was unknown, while the incident had been reported at Orile, Alakara and Bode Thomas police stations.
Rihannat’s father, Idowu Oloruntobi, said the family had made efforts to find her to no avail, adding that the mother’s carelessness was partly responsible for the incident.
He said, “I was in the office when I received a call that my daughter was missing and we have taken all the necessary steps towards finding her. I learnt that she, her brother and other children were playing on Bankole Street when a woman called her, and told her brother, Sultan, that she was their mother’s friend.
“Sultan said the woman gave him N500 and went with Rihannat. The money was found in his pocket. He said he did not want her to go with the woman, but Rihannat also affirmed that she knew her. Rihannat is very sharp girl and that makes me to suspect that the woman might be an insider.
“Her mother is also to blame for her carelessness. She was in the market that time. Why would a mother allow a little child to be wandering freely at that time? It shows she values her business more than the children.”
However, the mother, Oluwabunmi, who sells provisions at the Balogun Market, told PUNCH Metro that she had on the fateful day left the children under the care of her sisters as usual.
She said she was still grappling with the fact that Rihannat was abducted by a friend, as she did not have one in the community.
She said, “I rushed home that evening from the market when I heard Rihannat was missing. Her brother said one woman identified herself as my friend and gave him N500, but I don’t have any friend in this area. I always leave them with my sisters whenever I am going to the market. It is as if somebody is trying to punish me. “We have gone to three different police stations, including the Alakara Police Division.
“I’m appealing to the public to assist us in finding her. She is three years old and she is in nursery one.”
A resident of Bankole Street, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the children had been instructed to return to their house that day.
“I saw them playing around here that evening. They were sent back home. I learnt they came back,” he said.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, promised to get back with our correspondent on the incident, but had yet to do so as of press time. http://punchng.news/2015/10/16/woman-abducts-three-year-old-tricks-brother-with-n500/https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=985148248190004&id=206270189411151&refid=17lalasticlala |

Politics › Tribunal Upholds El-Rufai’s Election by Islie(op): 9:56pm On Oct 15, 2015 |
The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Kaduna has upheld the election of the state Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, governorship candidate in the last election, Mr Polycarp Danladi, had petitioned the tribunal challenging the election that brought in El-Rufai as governor of the state.
Danladi sought the tribunal to nullify the election and order a fresh one, arguing that the election was characterized by over voting and not conducted in compliance with the electoral act.
The tribunal, under the chairmanship of Justice A. A. Adebara in its verdict on Thursday threw out Danladi’s petition.
It affirmed El Rufai as the winner of the election. http://dailypost.ng/2015/10/15/breaking-tribunal-upholds-el-rufais-election/ |
