Until penultimate week’s presidential election was won and lost, one regular face on the campaign stumps of President Goodluck Jonathan was Patrick Ifeanyi Uba, the brain behind the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) – a group which claimed to have secured 18 million signatures across the six geo-political zones endorsing Jonathan’s re-election bid. For those who may not know this 43-year-old businessman from Umuanuka in Otolo, Nnewi, he is the MD/CEO of Capital Oil and Gas – a company that deals in importation, storage, distribution, trading and retailing of oil products.

He first came into the consciousness of Nigerians during the subsidy payments scandal. His company was among those indicted by the Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede’s Presidential Panel constituted to look into the findings of the report of an earlier investigation panel set up by the Ministry of Finance on Fuel Subsidy payments to the tune of about N2 trillion. As he was battling with this indictment, Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria’s (AMCON) hammer fell on his company following an Abuja Federal High Court ruling over an alleged N48.014bn debt. His adversaries had thought an end had come, business-wise, for this Anambra businessman. Alas, they were wrong!

Uba sprang a surprise like any good student of Niccolo Machiavelli. Like this Florentine philosopher stated in The Prince: “Never attempt to win by force what can be won by deception,” rather than engage in endless legal battles, Uba opted for Machiavelli’s enduring words. It was a season of politics and gradually, he wormed his way into the hearts of the first family. With that came unhindered access to the Villa and the opportunity to project himself as a man who could move mountains for the President, as far as his re-election bid was concerned. Long before even seasoned politicians could come up with the idea of helping Jonathan pursue his re-election bid, Uba had come up with a scheme – the President must be persuaded to seek re-election. And in doing that, he claimed to have secured 18 million signatures for that purpose.

In carnival-like manner, Uba’s TAN moved round major capital cities drumming support for Jonathan and telling those in the corridors of power that 18 million TAN ambassadors were on the field working for the president’s re-election. His group even became a parallel campaign organisation for the President in some states, including Bayelsa where it transformed into a platform for those determined to stop the governor from seeking a second term.

Along the way, he recovered his lost possessions and Society Happenings even gathered that he got much more in terms of emerging as a key player in the kerosene subsidy regime.

Now that the presidential election has been won and lost, with Jonathan’s opponent, General Muhammadu Buhari, declared winner with over 15 million votes, as against Jonathan’s 12 million votes, many are asking: where are the 18million TAN Ambassadors whose signatures Ubah secured for the president’s second term bid? Atleast, those 18 million TAN ambassadors could have given the President three million votes above those of Buhari.

PoliticsGov. Obiano Congratulates Buhari, Commends Jonathan’s Maturity - VANGUARD by itetemi(op): 4:55pm On Apr 02, 2015
Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra state has congratulated the President Elect, retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, on his victory on in the presidential election.

Obiano in a special broadcast in Awka on Thursday also commended President Goodluck Jonathan for displaying the qualities of a good sportsman and the sacrificial depth of a great statesman. The governor assured Buhari of the support and goodwill of Anambra citizens on the onerous task of nation-building. Nigeria's new president-elect Muhammadu Buhari hailed polls that will lead to the first democratic change of power in Africa's most populous nation as "historic" hours after he secured a decisive victory.

“I will be paying him a visit very soon to formally present the expectations of Ndigbo in the new political dispensation,’’ Obiano said. He said that the outcome of the last presidential elections had shown that “the ties that bind Nigerians as a nation are stronger than the narrow interests that seek to force us apart. ‘’ “Jonathan’s humble acceptance of the results of the presidential elections is a watershed in our country’s search for peace, unity and brotherhood.

“With this singular act, Jonathan has earned the respect of many Nigerians irrespective of political ideologies,’’ Obiano said.He assured Ndigbo and all lovers of good leadership that with the recent change of power at the center, APGA had become the party to beat in the country. He enjoined Nigerians particularly the people of the South East to embrace APGA and vote for all her candidates in the coming Saturday Governorship and House of Assembly elections.Obiano acknowledging cheers from his supporters at a recent function in the state

The governor urged the electorates to turn out en-masse on April 11 to vote for the 30 APGA candidates seeking election into the State House of Assembly to sustain the dividends of good governance in the state. Obiano, however, condemned what he described as the brazen return of brigandage and lawlessness displayed in the last elections by PDP stalwarts in the state.

According to him, they stalwarts hijacked the electoral process at the collation stages and came up with spurious figures as the final results of the elections. “I must also condemn the shocking involvement of some security agents working under the payroll of these PDP elements that openly aided and abetted the cruel truncation of the electoral will of Anambra electorates.

“I want to assure you that the dubious victory of the PDP in the Senatorial and National Assembly Elections of March 28 shall not stand. “We have assembled the necessary documentary and material evidence that will expose the bare-faced lies of the PDP and retrieve the mandate that you graciously gave to all APGA candidates from the law courts. “We shall do everything humanly possible to ensure that justice is done to our people and we shall not relent until victory is achieved,’’ he said.

PoliticsBREAKING News:the Board Of Editors For THISDAY Newspapers Projects Buhari Winner by itetemi(op): 2:00pm On Mar 31, 2015
With the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announcing collated results for the presidential election from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, and having analysed the state and local government areas' results in the possession of THISDAY reporters from around the country, The Board of Editors of THISDAY calls this presidential elections in favour of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Major-General Muhammadu Buhari.

THISDAY Newspapers can comfortably project that Buhari has won the 2015 presidential election.

While both Buhari and President Goodluck Jonathan have satisfied the constitutionally required 1/3 in 24 states, General Buhari's current majority is unassailable by any results still to be declared. We congratulate President Goodluck Jonathan for giving Nigeria the legacy of free and fair elections and urge him to immediately concede. We congratulate General Buhari for a hard won victory after four attempts at the presidency, and urge him to not only be magnanimous in victory but give Jonathan's supporters - especially the minorities - comfort.

The Editors of THISDAY urge all Nigerians that the time for healing has begun.

As the Independent Electoral Commission collates the results of the March 28 Presidential poll across the country, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), is leading in six of the 11 Local Government Areas collated so far in Kogi State on Sunday.

Our correspondent, who was at the INEC headquarters in Lokoja, reports that the Collation officers of the 21 LGAs of the state began trickling in at about 11am on Sunday but the actual collation did not begin until 6pm, when only seven Collation Officers had arrived.

By 8pm, Buhari was leading President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party, polling 108,817 votes from six LGAs against Jonathan’s 84,555 in five LGAs.

Buhari won in Governor Idris Wada’s local government of Dekina with 18, 819 votes to Jonathan’s 13,885 votes.

The APC candidate also won in Amadu Ali’s local government of Idah with 10,445 votes to Jonathan’s 6,113.

He also won in Ogori-Magongo, Okehi, and Mopa-Moro local government areas while Jonathan won in Yagba West, Igala Mela, Bassa and Kabba-Bunu LGAs.

The highest vote for the APC candidate came from Adavi LGA, which was the party’s stronghold, with 22,659 votes to Jonathan’s 7,767.

The President however led Buhari with a wide gap in Ibaji LGA with 13,358 to 6,076 polled by the retired General.

Collation continues with 10 more LGAs still outstanding

Politics16 Political Parties Endorse Buhari-----punch by itetemi(op): 6:31pm On Mar 26, 2015
Sixteen political parties in Ekiti State have endorsed the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), for the Saturday’s presidential poll.

The parties also passed a vote of confidence in the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, to conduct a free, fair and credible poll.

At a press conference in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, the political parties, which spoke through the Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, Mr. Tunji Ogunlola, said only Buhari, among the candidates, could deliver the Nigeria’s economy from the shackle of corruption and insecurity.

He said the task of rebuilding the nation was onerous but could be achieved if Nigerians keyed into the ‘change’ message which Buhari had brought.

Lamenting the level of insecurity and corruption under President Goodluck Jonathan’s current government, Ogunlola, a former Chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, promised that the 16 parties would work for Buhari’s victory at the poll.

He said, “We have thrown our weight behind Gen. Buhari in the interest of all Nigerians to salvage , liberate and rebuild the country.

“We, therefore, look forward to ensuring the resounding victory of Gen. Buhari, who will break the yoke of insecurity in the country.

“We appeal to eligible voters to actively participate peacefully in these elections and protect the sanctity of the electoral process, devoid of rancor and acrimony since election is a passing phase.

“We call on candidates of all political parties to remember the peace accord signed during the stakeholders’ meeting held recently and discourage their followers from participating in thuggery and politics of bloodshed.

“We, however, express concerns over indiscriminate arrest of opposition leaders in the state by the PDP-led government,” saying such action could cause violence in the state if it continues unchecked.

ENUGU — With five days to the presidential election, fresh indications emerged, yesterday, that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, may have lost ground for a bloc vote in the South East geo-political zone.

This is even as the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, endorsed Jonathan which had received the bashing of groups and individuals across the Igbo nation.

Speaking on last Friday’s endorsement of All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate,General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) by Igbo leaders in the 19 northern states and Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, under the aegis of Igbo Delegates Assembly, IDA,urging him to rescue the country from being run aground by Jonathan.

The party’s spokesperson, South East, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, said in a statement: “Ndigbo should not make the mistake of putting all their eggs in one basket.

“With IDA’s endorsement, it means Ndigbo will be part of the victory squad which was what the late Rt. Hon. Chuba Okadigbo predicted in 2002, that Buhari would not only spearhead a coalition to stop one party’s system in our dear country, but would fix a broken Nigeria.

“The Yoruba are 60-40 per cent and the Hausas are 80-20 per cent, in support of Buhari and Jonathan respectively. Why should Ndigbo support Jonathan 100 per cent? Is it not a gross error?

“It will be recalled that the IDA endorsed President Jonathan in 2011, hoping to get fresh air, only to get hot air.”

PoliticsWe Didn’t Endorse Jonathan, Says Fulani Cattle Breeders by itetemi(op): 7:51pm On Mar 22, 2015
Fulani cattle breeders, under the aegis of The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, on Sunday in Kaduna, dissociated itself from a reported endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan.

They said at no point did the association ever endorse anyone for the presidential election.

The MACBAN’s National Youth Leader, Adamu Mohammed, on Sunday in Kaduna after an emergency meeting of the group, declared the endorsement by a certain group by the name Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore of the PDP presidential candidate as null and void.

Mohammed said, “After an emergency meeting of the Association in Kaduna at the weekend(Sunday), members of the association resolved to put it on record that an announcement by a certain group, who goes about with the name Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, endorsing politicians, that it is different from our organisation, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria.

“The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, led by one Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, is a cultural organisation, which exists in only one state of the federation and therefore cannot speak on our behalf on any national issues because it is not representing all Fulani in the country.

“Therefore, we want to dissociate the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria from the statement credited to the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore that it has endorsed certain political candidates for the forthcoming elections.”

According to the youth leader, the MACBAN couldn’t have been part of any endorsement since it is not a political association but”an organised group, whose aim and objectives are to protect the interest of Fulani all over the country and beyond.”

He added, “We want to put it on record that MACBAN is an association that has leadership, who are highly respected such as the His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, who is the Grand Patron; Emir of Kano, Emir of Zazzau, Lamido of Adamawa and Emir of Katsina as Board of Trustees members
